There aren't any places anymore where you can get full meals for under $5, unless you come here! I've got takeout here a few times now, cash only. My favorite is the hong kong style pork chop, the fried fish here looks delicious as well. I don't recommend the chicken leg since it isn't breaded or as tasty. It was a Saturday morning after all. Upon arrive at the location to pickup my phone the lady/cashier, was taking a phone order and yelling at the customer. So for customer service I give this place a 0. No excuses, if you don't like your job, quit. Don't make this an unpleasant experience for others. Food: I ordered the lonsilog and tapsilog. It came with garlic rice, eggs, and pineapple. I have to say, I did not understand the pineapple or why it was placed on top of the fried egg. The eggs were not consistent and cooked differently. One was over hard and one was over medium. The garlic rice was basically rice with garlic on top. And the tapa, which is usually my favorite breakfast food, was way too sweet and did not bring back the memories of my childhood. The only thing they had going for them was the longanisa. Very big portions for the price. Went here on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite busy. We waited 10 mins before ordering and got their porkchop over rice and added longsilog. Cash only and they don't take venmo. We waited for around 20 minutes before finally getting our order. It is small in there and little space to wait so I would recommend waiting outside or in your car. The portions make the food worth it but I do think they pack way too much rice and the meat to rice ratio is uneven. I think the longsilog was also an extra $6 which was a little pricey for 2 pieces, but they were decently sized and had a good flavor. The porkchop was tasty as well but a little dry. Decided to try this place after seeing a food influencer online eat it. Came here on a Saturday, and ordered 2 HK style pork chop plate, 1 order of longonisa plate. Place is a hole in the wall. One girl taking orders up front, 2-3 guys cooking in the back. You can see them cooking. There were about 8-10 people waiting for there food. I was told my order would be ready in 25 minutes. Not bad wait time. Took the food back to San Mateo which was about a 20 minute drive. Pork chop was still crunchy, but I think it would have been a lot better if I ate it immediately after getting the food. It was still pretty good though, 2 pork chops, plenty of rice, fried garlic, and a egg to top it off. Total came out to about $20 bucks which was a steal! This is my little weekend secret. They finally know me by now (I think...) so I guess it's only fair to share it with the internet. Nestled in between a string of mom & pop shops is Gateway Kitchen, a Filipino Chinese restaurant with five tables, "open" kitchen, cash-only service, and the (first and) best hungover HK pork chop I've ever had. Heck, I'm never hungover and I want this all the time. The boyfriend turned me onto this place almost two years ago and I've never looked back. His family has been coming here for at least 5-10 years now and nothing has changed. A plate of longanisa or beef or boneless fish will still cost you $5-7 dollars with two heaping scoops of garlic rice, a fried egg, and some pineapple chunks. My go-to is the deep fried, heavily battered Hong Kong pork chop. When they give you so much pork chop that the lid doesn't even close... that's when you know it's gonna be a good meal. Someone from IG recommend this place and I was excited to try it. I knew it was a no frills, cash only spot with artery clogging junk food next to a big pile of rice but this just wasn't it. Junk food CAN be good, see Fil-Am, Jolibee, In 'N Out (just to name a few in the area) but this was closer to junk than food. The chicken was super dry and flavorless and the rice had way too much fried garlic on top. If I wanted garlic flavored rice, I would just cook it with garlic. Over frying it doesn't work and adding more of it makes it worse. I will say the longanisa was cooked perfectly as was the egg but the pineapple that came with the dish was obviously canned and not good. Fried chicken with rice, 1 egg and pineapple was only $6.25 though so I guess you get what you pay for (longanisa was $4 extra). I will always give places another try as I heard the HK style pork chop is good, but I won't rush back to this place. read more

We came here on an early Monday morning. Absolutely no wait at all and street parking was easy to find. However, it might be a different story if you were to come on a weekend. We ordered the HK Pork Chopsilog, baconsilog, and sides of tocino/spam ALL for under $20!! What a steal! The food was delicious! Portions are super generous! If anything, my boyfriend and I could've shared one plate with some extra sides. The silog comes with the protein that you choose, garlic rice, egg and a side of cubed pineapples. Everything was really, really good! The pineapples were a great addition for some extra crunch and sweetness to the plate. I enjoyed every, single bite!
