I have not been to this place in a long time. This used to be one of my cousin's favorite spots to eat. For 1st timers, I will let you know this place is CASH only. There are no ATM's nearby especially since Walgreens closed down. I used to go to this place after school, long before it has become the popolar place it is now for Silog plates. The menu has changed a bit, it's a lot simpler but do offer the classics of:tocino, longanisa, and H.K. fried pork chop. We went here yesterday, and for 7 plates 2 of which were combos it was about $65. Which is a steal nowadays. We had: 1. Tocino/longanisa combo: Both items are delicious. If you eat a lot of rice, I would recommend getting a plate of each. Only because for $2.50 more you can get garlic rice and egg 2. Tapa: My niece said she loved this and the meat was so tender 3. H.K. Style porkchop: I was a little disappointed with this. The pork chop was so thin, it was like jerky. Maybe it was a off day? People always talk so highly about this. 4. Smoked boneless bangus (tinapang): My dad liked this one and said it was pretty good Overall, food was delicious and will be back soon. Parking is a little tough. This place is a hidden gem that I kind of feel guilty writing a review for because while this place is such a good value, I also don't want it to get too hyped to lead to longer lines! This place is such a good value spot, with all meals being under $10 and huuuge portions! I was super full after finishing it, and there's definitely room for leftovers. This place is pick up only and parking can be a bit of a pain. It's also cash only. It looks a little dirty and tight inside, but can't complain since the food is so cheap. There's a few minutes of wait time after your order is placed, but not complaints with how fast they move. I've also seen them handle phone orders. I usually get the jumbo fried quarter leg chicken silog, which comes with garlic rice, egg, and pineapple chunks. The chicken is a bit bland but it does come with sauce. I also added a few slices of spam for a few more bucks. Next time I'd love to try the HK style pork chop and baby bangus. A solid place for a cheap meal! read more

Good cheap eats. Garlic rice, egg, and a protein for as low as $6.50. For another protein, it costs from $4 to $6.50. Tried their Tocino with Longanisa and Tapa with HK style pork chop. Both combo came with generous portion of garlic fried rice topped with more toasted garlic, one over medium egg and pineapple chunks. Beef Tapa- best one I've had. Tapa meat is usually dry and very salty. This version was tender, with just the right amount of sweet and salty. Enjoyed this a lot. There were two pieces of good sized Longanisas (pork sausage). Longanisa is Filipino version of Chinese lap cheong but not dry. Longanisas are usually made with pork, sweet with hint of garlic flavor. And these ones are definitely juicy yummy but not too much fatty chunks in it. The Tocino was also good. Sweet red meat similar to bbq chashu pork but a lot more oily and sweeter. Mix of soft pieces and more chewy ones. The HK style pork chops had a crispy batter coating. They give two pieces per order. The coating was so crispy but not hard. It made a very loud crunchy sound biting in to it. It's like eating chips but better especially when you get to the actual pork chop. The chop was also tender. Also yummy. I could eat them as a snack by itself. The staff were nice. The girl at the counter patiently waited while we took time looking at the menu. The older man who was cooking was very pleasant and came up to say hi. Food came out quickly. It's to go only and cash only. Street parking. My go to place whenever they are open during Sunday mornings! For sure a go to for cheap breakfast. I love the HK style porkchop. I order without the garlic on the rice in which they put a lot of. Can always order over the phone or in person wait time 15mins or less depends on the day. Definitely hole in a wall in the area. Still a solid three. I guess for the price point. Huge serving of rice. 1/3rd of the size of the pork chop you'd usually get at superstar. This plate I got today tasted like nothing, no seasoning whatsoever. Which I'm used to, subtle flavors but this in particular literally had no taste at all. My pork chop tasted like a breaded piece of cardboard. The garlic rice tasted like plain rice with fried garlic on top. The pineapple even tasted old and had no flavor. The fish I got barely had that fish flavor and wasn't even salty like how it supposed to be. I was better off eating a cup of ice than this meal. Gateway Kitchen is a place I didn't know I needed until now! This restaurant is strictly cash only and takeout and they serve silog. They do it well and are definetely generous with the portions. I ordered the HK pork chop with loganisa on the side and it was piled high on top of a mound of garlic rice. The over easy egg and the pineapple chunks were a nice and neccessary touch for the entree because it can get a bit dry. I'd recommend adding some kind sauce to the rice to help balance it out, luckily they did have a table near the window with a few options. The space inside is small and cramp, but the staff are all focused and worked effeciently to tackle the long line of orders. If you come to Gateway Kitchen, do yourself a favor and stick with the loganisa and the tocino - this is what I ordered. The loganisa has a nice snap, is juicy, and overall a star. The tocino has a lot of flavor as well and is a little chewy due to the cure. Almost every other protein ordered by my friends was overfried and tasted of fry oil. Not great, but it's also hard to complain because of the price. As far as the rest of the plate goes, each plate also comes with ample garlic rice and a fried egg. The egg was perfect! It was just runny in the middle but it had that nice craggily fried edge. The rice has seen some better days. It had a generous smattering of fried garlic on top, but the rice was generally very dry. The rice with the garlic toppings was good but I felt needed something more to it because I'm used to the three ladies jasmine rice like I felt their rice was bit dry even when I added the egg...all I needed was some sauce for the pork chops. They deserve 6 stars alone for the portion size to price ratio. Getting a meal of this size for $6 is unheard of here in the Bay Area. I haven't seen a meal like this, be this cheap in like 6+ years. The flavors were really good for the tapa and the meat portions may not be large but there's so much fresh fried garlic rice that it makes up for it. You could easily buy 2 of these meals and make the rice from both last for a few days. Staff super polite and food came out in less than 6 minutes. It's a small crew working inside I assume it's a family owned business which makes me even more inclined to continue to stop by when I'm in the city. I was excited to try Gateway Kitchen based upon reviews I had read and posts on Jnstagram. The prices are good but you get what you pay for in terms of the amount of food. I ordered the HK style pork chops that came with garlic rice and I ordered a side of fried shrimp. My wife ordered the deep fried Bangus fish. The pork chops are very thin so the deep frying caused the meat to be very dry and the seasoning was super light. The Bangus was the same, it was very thin so the fish was dried up from frying. The shrimp were crunchy but also not a whole lot of flavor. The prices aren't bad, people are very nice and if you need a deep fried food fix Gateway has several choices. read more
