I recently stopped by Gary's Restaurant for lunch and had a pretty decent experience. I ordered the prime rib sandwich from the lunch menu. The food was okay -- not the best I've ever had, but definitely not the worst either. The sandwich had good flavor and the portion size was fair. The service was solid and the atmosphere felt like a classic local diner, which I always appreciate. It seems like one of those places that probably shines more with their breakfast options, so I'll definitely be coming back to try the breakfast menu next time. We ate here based on other Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. My husband said his omelet was excellent as were its sides. My waffle with fruit was average. Personally, I would pay extra for real maple syrup if that were an option. The coffee was okay, not bitter but a bit weak. Service was excellent. Very friendly and also helpful, both our waitress (Kayla) and the host. The other diners were also friendly and it was just a nice place to be. Prices were very fair. read more

Gary's Restaurant is your mediocre breakfast spot as it is all just your basic breakfast items. There is nothing that really "wows" you. I would like to compliment the biscuits and gravy. That is my favorite item on the menu. Their waffles are also very tasty. One thing I wish Gary's would add and/or change would be to add shredded hash browns to the menu. The only potato option for breakfast is like these lumps of mushy potatoes. It's a huge bummer and a big reason why I don't go there often! The service is always good for the most part. Little breakfast place in Whitehall on the main street that goes thru town. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's pretty great. I guess you'd call it diner food. The servers are very efficient and kind. The pancakes are wonderful. They cook an English Muffin better than I've ever tasted ... the perfect amount of crispness and crevices full of butter. In the outdoor seating area there are beautiful flowers everywhere. I'm a fan! read more

I do recommend to order the Belgian Waffles with the Strawberry topping; it completed the dish. My little one gave the Meat & cheese omelette a 5 star rating. The Stuffed Hash Browns and All American was delicious as well. The staff is trying their best to keep diners safe and are cleaning between customers. Gary's Restaurant is one of those places you visit while traveling and you wish you had one near your home. If this place IS near your home and you haven't checked it out yet I highly recommend giving it a try. I was there on a Sunday morning, so a good crowd, but we were seated promptly. The staff is pleasant and attentive, and quick to refill your coffee mug. The food was very good, eggs made to order, and the servings were plentiful. I had leftovers, which I love. I had business in Whitehall and stopped in for lunch after reading favorable reviews. Yep, reviews are SPOT ON ... I sat on the patio the first time I ate there and the 2nd and 3rd times my dog joined me for lunch. Attentive staff and I'm grateful to the young server who came out to apologize for the long wait on my meal ... she was so sincerely concerned that I would be upset I had to calm her down but I hear where she's coming from. Great food, affordable pricing, clean attractive venue, concerned staff, family and dog friendly (especially appreciate that people were courteous enough to ask before petting my dog ((not all dogs are friendly)), great experience and I was happy to tip 50% each time I was there. Stopped in for breakfast this Friday morning and only waited a few minutes to be seated. Outdoor seating was available but we sat inside. It was very clean inside and had a good selection on the menu at reasonable prices. I had the Dragon (meat lovers) omlette and my wife had a country breakfast with biscuits and gravy. Plenty of food in those meals to share. First time I've had pepperoni in an omlette but it was good. Ask for the toasted homemade bread. We will be back. read more

Came here the night before dropping a kid at summer camp. Looked like a good, locally owned family place. And it is! Can you have a beer, a breakfast platter, and pie for dessert? Indeed! No judgement, no ridicule, no scorn. The other reviews that griped about service were unfounded for us. Young, yes. But they attended to is quickly, got the order right, and suggested other items that we actually ordered and loved. Well done. If I could do three and a half stars, I would. The diverse menu, from pizza to munchies, to all day breakfast coupled with beer and wine attracted a solid crowd of locals and holidaymakers. Skip the strip of national chain brands and give Gary's a try. If the in vogue smalltown divey feel (and I mean that in a great way) does not appeal to you, skip this place and enjoy your Taco Bell or Pizza Hut. If, on the other hand, you want to keep American small businesses alive and vibrant, give this place a chance. We may hit it twice while we're in town. read more

On our first visit here while visiting the area, we were suggested this nice place for breakfast. Four of us order different egg plates, and all were delicious. Service was very efficient even though they were slammed on a Sunday morning. Coffee service was continual. Overall a very pleasant experience. We will definitely be coming back. read more

We came with a group of 12 and they were more than accommodating. We got to sit outside in the shade and all together. Our waitress Josie was incredibly attentive to all of our needs and made sure that all of our food and drinks got out at similar times. The service was very good, fast, and friendly. The menu has a variety of items on it for different tastes. They cooked our fried eggs to taste, the bacon had a very good flavor and cooked perfectly. The hash browns are homemade not frozen and you have a choice of what you want on them like onions, cheese, and other things as well. They were very good with the onions in them! The waffle with real strawberry sauce did not need any syrup and will definitely be gotten again. The sausage patty had an odd seasoning but was ok. The biscuit and gravy had an odd taste possibly from the sausage. Coffee is brought around every few minutes by different people to refill. A really good experience. Highly recommended! read more

Slow slow service lately. The younger waitstaff seems more concerned about gossiping rather than taking our order! It took 1.5 hours from entering to finally getting served out food.. Ridiculous, especially when you have a diabetic on hand that needs food. We weren't singled out as other tables were being slow too.. When asked why it took so long, the waitstaff laughed and said they were so busy.. I counted 6 empty tables. When the food finally came, the bacon was cold, the toast and sausage patties were burt and the hash browns where white and mushy. It's really gone down hill there in the past few years! We opted for Gary's over eating at the Double JJ where we were staying. I'm glad we did! The food was delicious, especially the spicy cheese balls and the homemade macaroni and cheese. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The food we had here was better than the $80 per person meal that we had the night before. We would definitely return to Gary's! read more
