I recently stopped by Gary's Restaurant for lunch and had a pretty decent experience. I ordered the prime rib sandwich from the lunch menu. The food was okay -- not the best I've ever had, but definitely not the worst either. The sandwich had good flavor and the portion size was fair. The service was solid and the atmosphere felt like a classic local diner, which I always appreciate. It seems like one of those places that probably shines more with their breakfast options, so I'll definitely be coming back to try the breakfast menu next time. Overall, a decent local spot worth trying if you're in the area. read more

great food superior service.Frendly and superior servers. Good choice on an extended menu. The only negative is that they close after lunch.

Disappointed in the service and food quality at reopen chamber. People working are smoking and it doesn't smell like cigarettes near the entry way. Not impressed for it being closed so long won't be returning. read more

Pretty good food and prices. I got the eggs and meat, it tasted pretty good, the service was also fast. read more

Delicious food, good service nice ambiance. I was happy with fresh potatoes fried nicely. I had scramble eggs and they were done nicely. Although a small portion. The bacon was great! Fried flat crispy and tasty! The raisin toast was good as well. All in all a nice breakfast experience! read more

Gary's Restaurant - Scrambled eggs, fresh 'hash browns', bacon and raisin toast. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Whitehall, Michigan

We ate here based on other Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. My husband said his omelet was excellent as were its sides. My waffle with fruit was average. Personally, I would pay extra for real maple syrup if that were an option. The coffee was okay, not bitter but a bit weak. Service was excellent. Very friendly and also helpful, both our waitress (Kayla) and the host. The other diners were also friendly and it was just a nice place to be. Prices were very fair. read more

Very good breakfast and service! The corned beef hash was great!! We'll stop back when we in the area.

Gary's Restaurant is your mediocre breakfast spot as it is all just your basic breakfast items. There is nothing that really "wows" you. I would like to compliment the biscuits and gravy. That is my favorite item on the menu. Their waffles are also very tasty. One thing I wish Gary's would add and/or change would be to add shredded hash browns to the menu. The only potato option for breakfast is like these lumps of mushy potatoes. It's a huge bummer and a big reason why I don't go there often! The service is always good for the most part. The restaurant is always clean and offers a nice atmosphere. read more

Little breakfast place in Whitehall on the main street that goes thru town. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's pretty great. I guess you'd call it diner food. The servers are very efficient and kind. The pancakes are wonderful. They cook an English Muffin better than I've ever tasted ... the perfect amount of crispness and crevices full of butter. In the outdoor seating area there are beautiful flowers everywhere. I'm a fan! read more

Meat & Cheese Omelette, Belgian Waffle with strawberry topping, All American, and a Stuffed Hash Browns. Let's just say all of these options are great. I do recommend to order the Belgian Waffles with the Strawberry topping; it completed the dish. My little one gave the Meat & cheese omelette a 5 star rating. The Stuffed Hash Browns and All American was delicious as well. The staff is trying their best to keep diners safe and are cleaning between customers. The only downside is that the restrooms were not clean. read more

Gary's Restaurant is one of those places you visit while traveling and you wish you had one near your home. If this place IS near your home and you haven't checked it out yet I highly recommend giving it a try. I was there on a Sunday morning, so a good crowd, but we were seated promptly. The staff is pleasant and attentive, and quick to refill your coffee mug. The food was very good, eggs made to order, and the servings were plentiful. I had leftovers, which I love. I'm in the area 3-4 times a year and I'll definitely visit Gary's again! read more

Good food, service is good, friendly customers. Stuff hash browns, burgers, and kids love the panckes. Parking is good, easy to get to. Haven't had anything bad. You can make new friends. I had business in Whitehall and stopped in for lunch after reading favorable reviews. Yep, reviews are SPOT ON ... I sat on the patio the first time I ate there and the 2nd and 3rd times my dog joined me for lunch. Attentive staff and I'm grateful to the young server who came out to apologize for the long wait on my meal ... she was so sincerely concerned that I would be upset I had to calm her down but I hear where she's coming from. Great food, affordable pricing, clean attractive venue, concerned staff, family and dog friendly (especially appreciate that people were courteous enough to ask before petting my dog ((not all dogs are friendly)), great experience and I was happy to tip 50% each time I was there. Everything I've had there is excellent and I enjoyed my experiences with them. You owe it to yourself to eat at Gary's Restaurant, you can thank me later! read more

Food was eatable. I was there for 1 hour, but it only took 10 mins to eat. No one seemed to be in a hurry. If you are a German looking white person with lots of time on your hands, this is your spot. If you like to do other things with you day, then maybe make a different choice. read more

Great for breakfast. Portions are big, served hot and coffee cup is endless. Plan to wait, it's a favorite place for everyone!

Stopped in for breakfast this Friday morning and only waited a few minutes to be seated. Outdoor seating was available but we sat inside. It was very clean inside and had a good selection on the menu at reasonable prices. I had the Dragon (meat lovers) omlette and my wife had a country breakfast with biscuits and gravy. Plenty of food in those meals to share. First time I've had pepperoni in an omlette but it was good. Ask for the toasted homemade bread. We will be back. read more

Came here the night before dropping a kid at summer camp. Looked like a good, locally owned family place. And it is! Can you have a beer, a breakfast platter, and pie for dessert? Indeed! No judgement, no ridicule, no scorn. The other reviews that griped about service were unfounded for us. Young, yes. But they attended to is quickly, got the order right, and suggested other items that we actually ordered and loved. Well done. If I could do three and a half stars, I would. The diverse menu, from pizza to munchies, to all day breakfast coupled with beer and wine attracted a solid crowd of locals and holidaymakers. Skip the strip of national chain brands and give Gary's a try. If the in vogue smalltown divey feel (and I mean that in a great way) does not appeal to you, skip this place and enjoy your Taco Bell or Pizza Hut. If, on the other hand, you want to keep American small businesses alive and vibrant, give this place a chance. We may hit it twice while we're in town. read more

Friendly restaurant patronized by lots of local folk. We breakfasted here most of our 6-day stay in Whitehall because service and food were consistently good. We'll return whenever we're in the area because it's conveniently nesr US 31 and we know we'll enjoy out visit. read more

They have a great breakfast menu and a nice selection of omelettes, the staff is always friendly and courteous.

Excellent service and constant free coffee refills. Good breakfast choices. Excellent fresh baked bread choices. We loved the rye pumpernickel. Food arrived quick and hot. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. We we're in Whitehall for 6 days and half of those were spent at Gary's. read more

Not so good. The don't use real butter and half and half for coffee. It makes me wonder what is in the rest of our food. We haven't been there in a long while. read more

On our first visit here while visiting the area, we were suggested this nice place for breakfast. Four of us order different egg plates, and all were delicious. Service was very efficient even though they were slammed on a Sunday morning. Coffee service was continual. Overall a very pleasant experience. We will definitely be coming back. read more

We came with a group of 12 and they were more than accommodating. We got to sit outside in the shade and all together. Our waitress Josie was incredibly attentive to all of our needs and made sure that all of our food and drinks got out at similar times. I wish we were from here so that we could eat here more often! read more

Love this restaurant. I think you all should know that there hours are now shortened from 7am-1:30pm

The service was very good, fast, and friendly. The menu has a variety of items on it for different tastes. They cooked our fried eggs to taste, the bacon had a very good flavor and cooked perfectly. The hash browns are homemade not frozen and you have a choice of what you want on them like onions, cheese, and other things as well. They were very good with the onions in them! The waffle with real strawberry sauce did not need any syrup and will definitely be gotten again. The sausage patty had an odd seasoning but was ok. The biscuit and gravy had an odd taste possibly from the sausage. Coffee is brought around every few minutes by different people to refill. A really good experience. Highly recommended! read more

Gary's----solid breakfast delivery. Fast and friendly service on a busy late summer morning. Nice preparation on the hash browns. Recommended and will return without hesitation. read more

Slow slow service lately. The younger waitstaff seems more concerned about gossiping rather than taking our order! It took 1.5 hours from entering to finally getting served out food.. Ridiculous, especially when you have a diabetic on hand that needs food. We weren't singled out as other tables were being slow too.. When asked why it took so long, the waitstaff laughed and said they were so busy.. I counted 6 empty tables. When the food finally came, the bacon was cold, the toast and sausage patties were burt and the hash browns where white and mushy. It's really gone down hill there in the past few years! Time to go back to the other local spots. read more

Had the opportunity to stop and have breakfast at this restaurant this week. I thought they did a nice job on the omelettes. Service was a little slow - but with COVID-19- Everything is slower now. The food came out slow but the wait staff was great and the food was good. Thanks for the meal. read more

We opted for Gary's over eating at the Double JJ where we were staying. I'm glad we did! The food was delicious, especially the spicy cheese balls and the homemade macaroni and cheese. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The food we had here was better than the $80 per person meal that we had the night before. We would definitely return to Gary's! read more
