Rich at Garrett Ace Hardware in Windsor is absolutely amazing. I called the store because I needed a specific part for my garbage disposal and was in a serious rush. Rich answered the phone, immediately knew exactly what product I needed, and even offered to set it aside at the front desk so I could run in and grab it quickly. I have been going to Garrett Ace Hardware since 2018. Great local place to go to for a variety of things. Good selection of plants, flowers, paint, cleaning products, lighting fixtures, seasonal items, etc. The prices are reasonable and the staff there are friendly and nice. Love coming here to get plants and garden supplies! All the employees here are super helpful and friendly. I want to give a special shout out to Michael because he has been super helpful to me and my dad! We don't really know much about plants and how to care for them and he is always very patient in explaining us how to care for plants and will go above and beyond to help us out! He is so knowledgeable and can answer all the questions we have. We used to shop at big store for plants but we found out most employees at those stores really don't know much about plants besides knowing where they are in the store. However, I am not very pleased with the cashier girl today. (05/12/24). She gave us so much attitude and tried to rush everything when we had more questions about the payment ... I get that there were people waiting behind us and she was the only cashier at the time. But that should not be the reason to be rude to customers. Dropped 6 screens to be Re-screened on a Friday. They said it would probably take a week to get them back. They called THE NEXT DAY saying the screens were ready to be picked up. Been going into the place sometimes twice a day for 20 years. Seen countless employees come and go. They have a new "No back pack" rule and since getting my E-bike, I've rolled in a couple times wearing my back pack since I know all the regular employees so I didn't consider it was an issue since I'm a regular....but wait.....I forgot about my brown skin...... (My blonde white wife rolls in there with her big satchel without issue) ...Anyways, the arbitrary nature of certain rules effect some more than others in todays world, in spite of how well employees know you. The first time I was stopped, the interim manager insisted following me around the store even though she admitted seeing me there almost every day. Last night, I stopped in quickly to grab a gallon of muriatic acid.... A nice elderly man was looking into their inventory when the zoftig, white manager demanded I leave the store....(who's personally seen me in there countless times) Refusing to leave until they checked inventory to save me an extra trip,...(they were closing in about 15 minutes and I might have been the only customer there...Didn't see the problem)....The manager quickly called the sheriff to have my brown ass thrown out of the store....which they expeditiously did.... I'm writing this because I'm so tired of being racially profiled in spite of being a prominent business owner in Windsor and have earned the respect of those who know me...and don't focus on my skin color. I did remind the manager that every single photo on their "wall of shame" (photos of customers stealing) have white faces and in spite of his own skewed morals and folkways....is inversely profiling the pigment of the skin I was given. I just discovered Garrett Hardware a couple weeks ago and have already made a return trip. The have a great outdoor plant nursery whereI was delighted to find Violets in 6pack containers ready for planting @ only 3.99! Perfect for my shady garden! I also spied some awesome quality bushes and trees I hope to come back for. They also happen to be a fully stocked hardware store and have a large pet product department. Other sweet features include 3 kitty mascots Sherman, Leo & Lucy and a menagerie of small birds for sale and a chicken coop with some house chickens & roosters. I was absolutely thrilled with the quality of work, pricing and quick turn around for re-screening all my screens. Nick took my initial call at Ace in Windsor and coordinated with Tom and before I knew was it everything was completed perfectly in less than two days. In the past I've purchased my fire pit, fountain, plants and many other item from Ace. Sure beats going to Home Depot which I avoid like the plague. John at Garrett Ace Hardware was able to do the impossible! I've been carrying around an old paint sample from a different brand of paint that wasn't in the computer system. Five minutes later, he was able to match it and gave me additional stickers with the info on it should I need more. I was very impressed with his customer service! read more

The staff here in this store are second to none. Recently bought a Weber BBQ grill & after bringing it home found it had some shipping damage. The people there are very friendly and super helpful. A much better shopping experience then the big box stores. They have everything you need. I have never gone there without finding what I needed. The only reason I am not giving five stars is the girl at the cash register. She is new and very rude. She was short with her answers and just had a disgusted look on her face and acted put out because she could not work the register right. In the pandemic shelter in place, you need to cook. So we decided to buy a Weber gas grill. The husband unit called around to see who had the best deal and more importantly who would put the thing together so he didn't have to. Not only did Garrett Ace Hardware have the best price but they assembled and delivered it to the driveway. How long did it take? How about one day? We've done business with Garrett before and we appreciate how courteous and extremely helpful they always are. Even on the phone! Garrett Ace Hardware is simply a great old fashioned hardware store. Need specialized screws, bolts, just about anything you can think of. Besides having EVERYTHING (are you listening Home Depot, Lowes) the customer service can't be beat. Someone is with you until you find exactly what you are looking for. Some people say the prices are lower at Home Depot, maybe on some items they are but on others Garrett Ace is as low or lower. Remember they have the Nationwide Ace company behind them for good pricing. Plus what good are low prices if they don't have what you want or you settle for "something similar". More and more I'm going local, small retailer etc etc and getting the right product at a good price. Support your local retailer!! read more

Great store, helpful people and a lot more than just nuts and bolts. Ball canning jars, cast iron skillets, cute metal watering cans, garden stuff, housewares, etc. Hardware stores are fun. I forgot how fun they can be when they're not stocked floor to ceiling in a huge warehouse-like setting... I like to check out every aisle, as I would in an antique mall, and discover all the things I never knew I needed. It's closer to me now, and is also on my way home from work, so I'm not as likely to go to the big box store across town anymore. read more

I wrote a review in 2011 and I want to write another outstanding review for Garrett's Ace Hardware, in Windsor. I do my best to shop local when ever I can. Jim, in the Garden department, is awesome. He gives excellent customer service, knows his products and will go out of his way to help customers. This week I bought in our garden hose that was damages. And instead of trying to see me another one he offered to repair it. And that is why I continue to go back again and again. You should too. The Windsor store is a ***** 5 star store. The customer service is so outstanding at Ace Hardware, I felt if I didn't potential customers would not truly understand what a great team they have there. I am always so impressed and pleased when I go here! I am greeted immediately and always asked what can we do for you. Someone is called to assist, and if they can't, they get someone else who is more familiar with what I need! If I'm just looking at something in a aisle I am always asked if I have any questions, which I always do :-) Garretts offers small town feel service, with so many knowledgeable, willing, and appreciative people working there! Good God. My 88 year-old mother-in-law could have been badly injured or even killed today at Garrett's. A large trellis was blown down by the wind barely missing her. Had it hit her head it would have caused great injury. Yet, when my sister-in-law informed the people in the store they gave it little notice. Amazingly, the two guys who picked up the downed trellis put it back as it was with NO anchoring. Obviously, the store would be negligent and liable for injuries or loss of life if it happens again and hits a customer. Clearly, new management is needed at that store. read more

I have lived in Windsor for 20 years and have been going here for a long while. This morning I stopped by to pick up a couple traps for moles. I walked in hoping to get some help, and first employee I saw looked me straight in the eye and didn't smile or say anything, just kept walking past me. This store was recently remodeled, so I was in the general area. I saw a lady, who may be the manager. I asked her where I could find mole traps. She said "you are in the NICE area", and said next row over is the "KILL ANIMALS" section. Thought the comment was inappropriate, but she did help me find what I was looking for. read more

We recently had trouble with our conversation pit gas lighter and Bobbi solved our problems in a very quick and timely fashion. Two men came and replaced the entire mechanism within 24 hours. We are very pleased with the service. read more

I asked the person at the desk at ACE for a Craftsman garage door opener as my contractor had sent me to get one. She didn't know what that was, so she called an older man who brought me some other type of garage door opener. I asked if it was ok? My contractor had said Craftsman. He was patronizing and said I didn't know what I was talking about so I should buy it. When I brought it to the contractor he said because it was not compatable he would have to re-wire the garage where the switch was and there would be sheetrock repair and paint and it would be $350 extra. I paid the contractor to go to Sears (I didn't know but that is where I should have gone). And got one. The people at the Windsor store tend to be rude. I have had several keys cut there that didn't work, so I would not go there for that. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN DON'T GO THERE! THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE A CHILD! When I went to return the garage door opener I was treated like a theif (I'm a realtor and have been for 18 years). I brought a broken hose for a washing machine and asked for another one. Again a man was called out, but the hose didn't look anything like the one I brougth in. He was rude and said that it was because I don't know about it (I manage 23 rentals and have soldr 300 homes and know what a washing machine hose looks like. Again he insisted that he was right and walked away (very rude!) I installed the hose, but it was bent so bad in three places and not a flexable hose. I tried to staighten it with a plumbers wrench, rubber mallet and just by hand and it worked a little. I ran the washing machine and it would not drain. I again tried to straigten the hose. No luck and a washer full of wet blankets. I called the manager and explained that I had asked for another type. Was assured that this was right by his staff. He told me to uninstall it and bring it back. I live about 2 miles from the store. It's December 23rd and I have work, family etc. I asked if he could have someone bring me one. He had an attitude that I was being unreasonable. I suggested that he bring one on Friday after the holidays and I would just not have a washer. He refused. Healdsburg is a good ACE, it has a good staff who smile, not sneer, and will tell you if they don't have a product. DONT GO TO WINDSOR ACE!!! read more
