Tried to return an item that was not used, but the plastic was opened. Guy at the counter said couldn't go it. Then asked for the mgr. He said doesn't look like he will be able to do it either. I said I've been coming there for over 25 years and first time I asked to return an item (all of $25 retail). Mgr. finally said he would talk to owner but wasn't available until tomorrow. Went back next day and the guy at the counter said they would do it "this time" but not again. They all acted like they did me a BIG favor. NOTE: Go to Mission on Hwy. 12. This ACE location sells Benjamin Moore paint now. Gary has sold paint over 30 years and knows everything you need to know to do a great painting job! This is a wonderful hardware store in general and we shop there frequently. They have a friendly, experienced staff and carry almost everything we need. Bennett Valley Ace employees are by far the most helpful group of people you will find anywhere. From the moment you step in you will be greeted by one (of many) friendly team members. They will for sure offer to help and offer advice for any project no matter how big or small. If they do not have what you are looking for (which is doubtful), they are more than happy to direct you to a place that will. With their help, I have been able to complete a few home improvement projects that I thought were out of my league. And each time I come back, they always remember what I've been working on and ask how things are coming along. We residents of Bennett Valley are beyond fortunate to have this store in our neighborhood. read more

I've never had a good experience at this store, but the last time I'd been was in 2016 so I figured, what the heck? It's 2022, maybe it's different. I really didn't want to have to go somewhere else because this place is right around the corner from where I live. So the first bad experience I had was trying to buy a plunger. I was led to the aisle where they were at and then the man proceeded to stand there while I shopped and "explained" to me how a plunger works - the kicker is his explanation was completely wrong, but I'm a woman, what would I know, right? And really, does someone need to be explained how to use a plunger in order to buy one? I was actually in a rush, but I had to sit there and listen to this man's totally incorrect explanation with all of his colorful metaphors and everything. This most recent time, I went in there looking for a garbage disposal key. The staff was helpful enough, but they noticed that I was avoiding a certain aisle because a man had his large German Shepherd in there. I wasn't deathly afraid of his dog, but I'm 5'0 and the dog was as tall as me, so I didn't feel like being right next to it in a tightly cramped aisle. Well when I go to check out, the man with the dog is checking out too, so I stand back to give them (and myself) space. The woman behind the counter feels the need to comment to the guy, "Apparently she's really afraid of dogs." 1.) I wasn't really afraid of his dog, I just wasn't interested in being right next to it. 2.) It's incredibly disrespectful to talk about your customers like that. The guy with the dog didn't even seem to notice me or care, but the cashier felt like he should know about my supposed fear for some reason. Overall, I've always found the staff here weird, rude, and they like to pry a little too much. I will say that the younger staff is actually better. They don't tend to bother you unless you ask for help. So what's up, Ace? Why can't you just mind your own business? Because I'd much rather drive the extra 15-20 minutes to Home Depot than put up with this kind of bizarre behavior and I won't be shopping here again. read more

Excellent service from staff who will lead me directly to whatever I need. Of course you pay a little extra over huge box stores, but the service is terrific. it also saves me some gas since it's another 10 miles rd trip to Home Depot and So much easier to shop at BV Ace hardware! read more

Arrived at their wide open doors at 8:23 am, while guys were wheeling out merchandise. Was turned away as they "don't open until 8:30." Wouldn't have hurt them to let me try to find my items until they were ready to let me pay. Wouldn't have minded so much except for the controlling attitude and obvious pleasure the guy had in turning me away... won't be back as there are plenty of other options.. read more

Extremely frustrating to shop at this site. It has three different spaces to shop...one for paint (good idea), and the other two are a mixed bag of supplies. I can pick up supplies anywhere. But going into Ace on Yulupa is a highlight for me. Nice, nice, people. So helpful. They make shopping fun.

When Ace expanded a few months ago, I thought great a bigger store with larger sections. However, it is less efficient and confusing. There are actually three separate stores, three separate checkouts. The other day I started out in the old store, found 1 item needed, when I asked where was the caulk, I was told it's next door in the paint store. So I checked out my item and when next door and found what I needed and checked out again. I realized each item didn't reach the threshold for using my Ace rewards coupon, but together I could have. When asked I was told sorry. I was told at the paint store that next time tell them you need to buy something next door and you can carry the stuff out and check out in one spot. I said when I asked the cashier at the first store about needing caulking, he didn't give me the option to go next door to cash out. Plus a week ago, I when to the main store to get a part for my Ace yard sprayer, and was told they don't sell sprayers. As I left I wandered into the garden and grill store number 3 and found a whole section of sprayers. One would think I would have been told to go to the Ace garden store. read more

They are the best! I went in today needing new batteries for both of my car keys. I wanted to do it myself and save the $100+ that the dealer charges, but couldn't get the screws out to open them. They were apparently glued in, and took two guys at BV Hardware at least 15 minutes to get the smart keys open. While I was waiting I browsed around the store, and saw lots of cool holiday lights and decor, as well as housewares and of course tons of home repair supplies. I saw that they also replace all types of car keys, and it is definitely cheaper than going to the dealer. Because I had brought my own replacement batteries, they didn't even charge me, even though I was more than willing to pay for the service. What a pleasant surprise! I will definitely be back, and cannot recommend this place highly enough! read more

Tiny hardware store in comparison to others in Santa Rosa, but probably it's got what you need for a small home repair. Nice, helpful folks. Prices are average. The Ace Hardware chain has consistent prices for all it's stores. Why drive to Lowe's or Home depot when you need a small item? You'll waste time and gasoline. I moved to Bennett Valley 2 years ago, and have gone to this store several times for a variety of needs. Every time I have visited, the staff is friendly and helpful, and I've always found what I needed. I want to give a particular shout-out to Vivian, who has been helping me with my latest project! I have been renovating a living room that had terrible cigarette smoke damage. She pointed me in the right directions to get all of the smell out, and it worked perfectly--thanks Vivian!! It is impossible to go into the store without being accosted by one or more staff. One time I barely got in the door and a staff member gave me the customary "can I help you?" I told them electrical and the guy at the register announced my pending arrival over the intercom. Electrical was exactly 20 feet from where that guy was announcing. I was immediately accosted by another staff member demanding what it was I was looking for. Generally, if a customer doesn't want assistance it's either that he is pondering his options or he doesn't believe the hardware personnel are more knowledgeable. Either way, Ace Hardware Personnel should respect a customer that wants to look around for either of these reasons. To make matters worse, Ace personnel will vigorously try and find something to substitute for what you are actually looking for and try and bullsh** you into thinking it will actually work. So, you get confronted, tracked, bamboozled, then made to feel guilty or suspicious on leaving the store without a purchase. read more

So I had a great trip to Asia. I returned to Santa Rosa to my little hut. It was 1am. I noticed that my bathroom floor was flooded. I saw that the shut-off valve had a hole in it and was spewing water everywhere. I woke up my landlord Pedro. I said "Pedro, we have a problem!" Pedro said "Ok, I'll call a guy". So I drove down to the Ace hardware in Bennett Valley. I told Steve about the issue. He helped me so that I could find the perfect fit. Steve's customer service could not have been better. So my cousin buys an extension cord bit turns out she needs 3 prong instead of two. So she takes it back but they find every excuse in book not to take it back and were rude in the process.. so she buys another one since its convenient at the time tome. Our uncle come in there all the time for stuff but since the store is so rude and the return policy is filled with excuses... Me and my uncle will not be returning. So now you have lost 5 peoples business.. me my uncle and my cousin. Way to go Ace! read more

Great local hardware store owned and run by really nice, competent folks. The only reason they get 4 instead of 5 stars is that their prices are a bit higher than the big box store and their inventory is small, so they frequently don't have the bits we need for a project. In their defense, they are a small store. This is still my primary go-to place when I need hardware. read more

Must have been the day I was here because I thought the place kinda sucked--especially compared to the Novato Ace Hardware, which is always OVERSTAFFED with friendly, knowledgeable people. This one was full of teenagers screwing around. Took me a few minutes to find someone who could help me get a few screws. He found the right box for me, got out a screw and just stared blankly until I said thanks. Brought the screws up to the counter, another teen asked how much they were...huh? I went back to the screws, saw the little bags that were hidden where I enter quantity and price--why didn't the first guy help with that? Got to the counter as another teen finished helping a customer and walked way without checking to see if anyone else needed checking out--like me. I had to call hef back. Blah! I'm all for hiring teens to keep them busy...but I felt a little odd not seeing ANY grownups in a hardware store! read more

Nice lil hardware store for where it's located they carry quite a bit. I walked in one day asking for respirator masks due to all the smoke in the air and was quickly met with every person in the store looking at me like I ran over their dog. The staff was very busy with many employees so the quick short answer of no followed with a condescending laugh by the guy making keys was excusable due to the circumstances. When I asked them if they knew anyone who might have some or when they would be receiving more there was no additional response as if I was being ignored. Guess I should have waited patiently for my turn to be told no instead of just blurting out to expedite the wait time like I did. Oops. read more

this is the most helpful place in town. You can bring in a piece of any project and they can tell you how to fix it or what to do next. Half the time they even help me to fix the item right there!
