Asked an employee about an item and sorry if it was an inconvenience at your job. I do admit, I interrupted them with a question when they were flirting with a coworker. My bad. Should have waited. 2. Only one person on the register. 3. Luckily they opened a second register when they saw the line. And at check out I was told I can't return an item without an account. Solid choice of tools that may last a few years or maybe just a few jobs, but the price reflects that obviously. This particular store is like most, but a tad on the small side of things. Finding specific items can be a chore sometimes, but eventually you may find help (Your better off wandering though). I know many items here are overpriced, so you need to factor that in and their return policy can be odd on some items, but again if you have shopped here before you know this. I generally go to Harbor Freight for tools that will last me a few jobs as it's cheaper than renting equipment. I'll continue to support this store, especially since its the only one in the north bay. read more

They have a lot of items but not many of each. Also very narrow selection of Lathe tools/ accessories. Trying to find someone with actual knowledge you'd be better off asking a fellow customer. Granted very few of the employees could tell you more details about a particular item. However they are very much like walmart Have multiple registers but yet only have one or two open with a line halfway down the center aisle towards the back of the store. I haven't had any issues here that I haven't had at every HF. Service has been good. That said, all HF I've been to are quite busy. If you can snag a staff member they're willing and pleasant to help in my experience ("Darlin" was very helpful recently). The check out line is below adequate. There's not enough cashiers even at full capacity. Always a long line. If you go in expecting good prices and staffing that's stretched thin your expectations will be met. This is the only Harbor Freight store that I have visited, but I have been to this store and it's old/smaller location several times over the last 15 years. I like what the company is about, just about any tool you would need for everyday jobs at an affordable price. You can also find their huge selection of coupons online and they can scan them on your phone screen to get an even better price. The few times I have been here lately have been great. The staff has greeted me and made sure I was finding everything correctly. It is nice to see the employees have a good friendly banter between them that is entertaining at on the front-end of the store. My work supplies all our shop tools needed for our work so I have been checking out tool review videos for my home collection. The products Harbor Freight has been coming out with are definitely better quality compared to the reputation they used to be known for... One example from my personal experience: I work in a locomotive maintenance shop and for the last 3 years we have been using a single socket over and over for one specific high-torque bolt and it has never let us down, I was surprised to find out it is a Pittsburgh Pro (Harbor Freight's brand). Their Pittsburgh tool brand comes with a lifetime warranty the same as any other big hardware store. I just picked up a lime green tool box/cart from HF and absolutely love it. It's just for my garage/home tools but I have noticed many professional auto/lube techs used them and even the drawer slide bearings seem higher quality than the more pricey ones in the bigger stores for $100s more. I WISH Petaluma would get a Harbor Freight but for now I'll continue to shop this one and I will check out the San Rafael store soon. read more

Make sure to bend over! They will sell you a defective tool and charge you a restocking fee for the pleasure! Spoke to the manager and she could care less about the customer satisfaction! This is a review for Harbor freight but it's really a review about their online ordering and back up telephone help. My last order got screwed up and when I reached out to get it straightened it worked. I didn't actually receive the items yet. I sent an email and they got back to me with two emails, gave me the phone number to call and I was told it would be all straightened out and no extra charge for shipping or crap like that. They do have one problem because if you order five items it may come in five different shipments. They only charge you once for the shipping but obviously it's very inefficient for them because they have to pay for Each of the shipments to UPS. But I get what I ordered even though it comes in dribbles. But, as I found out if there's a problem they will work to make it right. That's important. read more

Sadly, the only HF store in Sonoma county is manned by staff that incompetent, lazy, and/or simply unwilling to help. Each time I went to the store, I was unable to get the simplest of questions answered. Sheila, the old cashier who has been there for many years, deliberately gave me the wrong information, sending me in the OPPOSITE side of the store on different occasions. The half dozen young men on staff are happy to stand and chat among themselves, ignoring customers. You go into a DISCOUNT HARDWARE store and want the people working there to not be making minimum wage and to know as much as you do being an electrician, plumber, welder, etc. these people need to go to a store knowing what they need/want or research it ahead of time, they are not there to tell you how to do your job, they run a small retail location. Also, I buy the warranty's EVERYTIME which they offer on like everything, so if you complain about something breaking but didn't get the replacement plan. you're the complete idiot. I had a great experience at Harbor Freight. I went in to. Uy a ladder and was helped by Mellissa aka Mellissa Joe Mello! . She was extremely helpful. I had inquired about a security device and she took the time to show me how it works and where I would need to install this specific device. She was friendly, courteous and very accommodating. She provided excellent service On another note, the 17ft ladder that I bought on sale was less expensive at another Place in Rohnert Park. Harbor Freight does not price match. Went for the black friday sale with a coupon. One of the coupons was a 25% off any single item which she would not let me use on a flash light drill combo because it was already on sale. I just let them know I just drove from Petaluma to return my stuff and the guy said he doesn't care and that the manager doesn't care and to come back another day. Savion gave me the professional courtesy that should exist in every customer service interaction with a consumer. I was so impressed by the experience I had with him during my transaction, I knew I had to leave a review. Right away he greeted me sincerely and listened to my concerns & long winded story. He patiently heard me out, then immediately conveyed to me he understood the issue and had empathy for the inconvenience I incurred and would resolve it right then and there. He corrected an incorrect charge from a previous transaction while helping me make a new purchase. He also went the extra mile (by showing he sincerely cares and was listening to my long story) by making recommendations of items I didn't think about but were necessary for my tasks ahead of me (that I mentioned). All in all, I left with all the things I needed, saving me a trip, but also resolving my incorrect transaction from before all while showing sincere concern & customer service skills. I'm glad he was there that day and time I came in. I like Harbor Freight for the great price quality products but now I have a new appreciation for the place. Above and beyond, that dude is quality. How can you not love Harbor Freight? Harbor freight is a great place to buy the "expendables" - like a cutting disk for a grinder - or grinding disks. If you need a tool for a "once in a lifetime" job - Harbor Freight can be cheaper than renting the tool... and the damn thing might even go the distance of your job before it falls apart! Yeah, they have cheap crap - but sometimes that's all you need to get the job done! I bought a pair of ramps to change my oil - some chain to pull stuff with and an electronic fly killer that didn't work... and some crappy clamps that didn't work. Yeah... got burned but it's difficult to expect much from a $3 clamp. Just have both eyes open when you buy from Harbor Freight because most of the stuff is crap. Bonus - 1) Rancho Mendonza is next door so you can get a burrito for lunch. Rancho Mendonza has a nice little deli! 2) Recycle store is next door so if you want used doors and such - they have it. People who buy cheap tools would love the recycle store 3) Bottle barn is down the street so you can buy some drinks to enjoy with your new power saw. :-) 4) Bunches of 2nd hand stores on Piner - which should appeal to Harbor Freight customers who like cheap stuff. read more

Need a tool for the occasional repair job? This is the place. I probably wouldn't shop here if I were depending on the tools for my profession, but I feel confident that the tools I buy here will work for a reasonable amount of time considering their low cost. And hey, hand tools come with a lifetime warranty. It's getting harder and harder to find tools that aren't made in China anymore, which only increases Harbor Freight's value. For example: I was looking at a Chinese-made Craftsman combination wrench the other day and the hole was punched off-center on the closed side of the wrench, making one wall extremely thin and prone to breaking. I haven't seen that poor quality control on any of the Harbor Freight tools. In that case, why not buy HF wrenches, with better quality and lifetime warranty, for half the price? Be selective, use your head, and shop around. read more

I've been purchasing tools at Harbor Freight for a couple of years now. And appreciative of their low prices. But as the adage says, "You get what you pay for..." and is unfortunately, my case. Last year I bought a drill gun with a battery and charger. I used the charger exactly 3 times and it no longer works. I called to see how the "customer first" based company could help me. Since I did not buy an extended warranty, basically, NOTHING. They were very "sorry," that my charger stopped working (of course in the middle of a project) but they could not help me, BUT they'd be happy to send out a new charger (which they had NONE in stock) for $6.99. So this is how this customer sees the situation. Instead of sending out a new charger, they have lost a customer who would be potentially spending hundreds more dollars, but will NEVER shop at HF again. read more
