Homeowners just be discerning when it comes to working with these folks for your window shades and coverings. Less than 3 years ago our home was furnished with 10 Hunter Douglass shades from these folks. We're pretty delicate and gentle on our home and take a great deal of pride in keeping everything in tip top shape. One of the shades opened up on itself (it failed) probably due to poor glue or not enough glue where the shade is held together. Reached out to these folks to see what they can do. It's under warranty but for two weeks I got dragged around by someone telling me they're going to see if Hunter Douglass would do us a solid and fix the blind just to find out that neither they or Hunter Douglass are willing to stand behind what I know was multiple thousands of dollars of work in our home. They have every excuse under the sun and the bottom line is: these guys will pass the buck and they won't stand behind their work. Think long and hard before you sink big money like that into a project with these guys. Eventually we will need to replace our window dressings and I def wont be calling them. Came in looking for an endgrain sealer and sticker material for slab drying. Each staff member sent me in a circle to every staff member from the front, to the back to the yard. No one could even get out of their chair to help me. The yard alleged they cant provide stickers or sticker materials which is strange for me considering its a lumber store. Disappointing for a lumber focused store to have an unwillingness to provide / assist with obtaining materials. My guess is unless youre a contractor just go to home depot. read more

Even though I am in the Gualala Area and not in Healdsburg, Mr. Silva found what I was looking for the in the HL inventory, and arranged for it to be delivered to Gualala Building Supply, a related business where I could pick it up. The vibe here is great. At least in the lumber yard. We came here because we bought a Christmas tree and being new to "live" trees, we forgot we had to have the trunk trimmed. We weren't sure if we should ask but we did and three different people were so kind and nice and serviced us. Also they didn't charge us for the trim! You will want to shoot yourself if you ever have to do business with these people. It seems their lofty goals of customer service is to return an email or text within a week is satisfactory. After paying 300 dollars to get their technician out to assess our window needs, it took easily 8 weeks to finally get the proper information , on sizing and pricing. 8 weeks. And now we have been waiting 6 days for clarification on certain details, and possibly changes. Impossible to deal with and after so much monkeying around waiting , i have to say not to be trusted. Flee and find another vendor for anything. Probably the worst customer service i have dealt with in 4 years of being a contractor. Useless. The support and care this company gives to professional carpenters and contractors is just over the top. On Monday June 3, 2013 Eric and his staff put on a seven hour seminar featuring Garty Katz, master carpenter who demonstrated new techiques for installing windows, doors and crown moulding. Everything was free! Including breakfast and lunch for approximately 300 attendees. The door prizes were jaw dropping. Tools worth thousands of dollars were given away by the dozens. I've been buying stuff at HLC for several years. I found the place by accident. I was just wandering around aimlessly while some tire work was being done at Ceja tire store. That's when I discovered HLC. "Hey! This is where the contractors come to get quality stuff!!", I thought. As others mention, Healdsburg Lumber Company has quality lumber. Today I went to buy the single side surfaced 1" redwood boards to make interior trim for my house. You won't find lumber like that at any big box store. They also have "real" pressure treated wood for landscape projects. (I have a project next month that will require 4x6 pressure treated wood. Fat chance to get that stuff at Home Depot.) The people at the counter do not just fill out orders. I explain my projects and they give me useful suggestions and show me alternative (better) ways of getting the job done. The intent is to minimize costs and provide an effective solution; and no, they don't mind that I am an amature. Last year, I bought siding and "z" flashing to replace some older siding on my house that was rotting from the bottom up. I didn't know what the flashing was called - though I'd seen it on other repair jobs. I just described what I wanted, showed them a piece of my old siding that I cut off the house. They provided me all the materials to get the job done. They also helped me select the proper galvanized nails to attach the siding with my nail gun. They also have high end tools: Bosch and Mikita. I lost the wrench for my Mikita grinder. They were sold out of the Makita wrench, but they had a universal tool they sold me. I was glad they didn't have any of the Mikita tools because that meant all the professionals were losing their wrenches too... now I feel more like a pro. read more

This place is great-a small town feel hardware store that carries everything a larger chain would carry but actually has helpful salespeople working there. I had several kind people offer to help me in several areas including stain recommendations, insect spider issues and copies of keys. The place is very well laid out for organized shopping and has easy parking. Customer service is so amazing that one gentleman even carried my bags to my car. What a great experience! Ordered limber in October and ordering process was good except the person made a small mistake on the spot and it took forever to get it corrected for refund. I would have given them 5 star if it is not for the schedule delivery. They did not tell you when they will deliver. You just sit and wait the whole day. It sucked. read more

Last year I built a new home and bought all my lumber and windows from HLC. At the time I was happy with the quality of the materials and service, but there were a few hitches. They messed up the window order, but it was eventually resolved. These things happen on a project and I was happy overall. This year I wanted to order screens for all the windows and had some trouble with getting a response. I ended up posting a negative review of the company and was subsequently contacted by the owner of HLC. He was very concerned about customer satisfaction and got me through to a great employee who worked out all the details with great accuracy and professionalism. (Thank you Marge) What I've learned through this experience is to take any dissatisfaction up the chain of command before posting a negative review. I thought I was dealing with upper management, but I was wrong. If I need to purchase construction materials in the future I will have no hesitation buying from HLC. read more
