SCAM BEWARE - don't fall for the same trick that I did. $250 for an estimate??? Santiago came by and told me my project would cost anywhere from $40,000 to $60,000. I told him those numbers seemed high but if we ended up on the lower end of that range, maybe we could work something out. He told me it would cost $250 for the bid. Like an idiot, I paid it to him, thinking that he was going to try to make a competitive offer. He walked around the property for about half an hour and then told us it would cost something like $75,000. He obviously wasn't even trying to win the contract and just wanted to keep his easy $250. Everything he was trying to charge for was ridiculously overpriced. "Garden Experts" is trying to charge $26,000 just for drainage. I've had 4 other quotes from top designer landscapers and the highest was $6,000. He is trying to charge me over 4x on drainage. I have a thin layer of mulch and gravel (in most places less than an inch) that needs to be removed. "Garden Experts" is trying to charge $14,000 for this!!! Other bids came in around $2-4k for the same job. There is zero expertise required for mulch removal. It is a pure manual labor job. Bottom line is that Santiago did not give a good faith effort to submit a competitive bid and instead asked for a moonshot amount in order to make a quick buck. I wouldn't have trusted him with the $250 except for the fact that he had such good yelp reviews. He might be ok at fixing a sprinkler and doing tiny jobs here and there, but don't trust him with a full landscaping project. Hopefully this review can serve as a warning for other people interacting with this scam artist. I saw from some of the other negative reviews that he likes to send angry messages to people who leave bad reviews. I bought a house and it came with what I thought was a working sprinkler system. A month into using it, problems with the system arose and eventually my backyard was flooded. I have had it off since then. Finally with some money saved up for the outdoor renovations, I found Garden Experts. Santiago was great! From the scheduling to the work done, I have no complaints. He was able to explain everything thoroughly to my satisfaction on what needed to be done and the dangers of waiting on others(because honestly I'm really tight on budget these days). I did the maximum of what I could afford and honestly it's nice having a working system now. On the plus side, this box seems very intuitive and easy to understand in comparison to my old one. It's a bigger plus that it comes with a 1 year warranty on the things he changed, so I at least I know those will be fine. I will say the only negative of this seems to be the cost creep that comes with working with older systems. I had to pass on quite a few things that I would like to do, but I need to target the big ticket items first. It is very likely I will reach out again for my future needs in the sprinkler system. read more

He is a little pricey when compared to others, but he came out on a Saturday, followed up on a Monday holiday, and fully fixed my problem. I reached out to this company through Yelp for an estimate for a full irrigation system. Without even asking any discovery or offering to come out for a consultation, they told me their minimum is $4K. When I asked how I know if my yard would meet the minimum, they told me my yard is probably too small and they have a minimum of 7 zones. Other than my zip code, they knew NOTHING about my yard or needs. Other estimates suggested 9 zones for my yard. So, this company lost an opportunity to earn my business based on poor assumption. Seems like I dodged a major bullet. Update: after leaving my review, the owner chose to message me again to confront me about leaving a review. Completely unprofessional in all aspects. Had another sprinkler repair needed, and Santiago again came to the rescue. One of my zones was really low on water pressure; there were no obvious wet spots that would indicate a busted pipe. The idea of digging up my back yard, and I'm now officially too old to do that myself anymore. Santiago, the business owner, was quick to respond, and he was able to come out to fix the issue within two days, all the while being communicative via text on when he would arrive. Santiago checked out all the different zones and provided me with the list of issues, with costs for every line item. Then he explained what each was and said he could start work immediately on whatever we were comfortable to pursue--no pressure. I liked how candid and transparent he was before starting work. We chose to fix all the issues, and they did the work quickly, including removing a board on my deck to cap a sprinkler head. We're very pleased with the work that Santiago and his team did, and we're more than happy to recommend him to anyone who needs irrigation services. My irrigation system kept turning on at odd times and the controller for one zone kept turning on and off quickly. Santiago returned my text within an hour of my posting on Yelp and arrived mid afternoon. He taught me that the controller had a function which enabled it to repeat the watering cycle. All I needed was one cycle, so he deleted the repetitions. He tested the main controller and the zone controller, then found a faulty module in the main controller. Also, the zone controller was faulty. At my request, he replaced the zone controller quickly and explained the options for the main controller. He could replace the faulty module for $100, but the other two modules could fail also. Or he could replace the whole main controller for $350. I chose to replace the whole main controller. After doing so, he checked the whole system, found and corrected a few other issues and finished the job. He was courteous and straightforward in his explanations, so I would call him if I needed help with my sprinkler system ever again. read more

I spent hours trying to find a way to fix it and ended up messaging Santiago through Yelp for help at 9pm at night. He showed up on time early the next day and was able to turn off the back-flow valve and restore water to my home. Santiago at Garden Experts has been taking care of my lawn since 2005. The guys are fast and efficient, and take care not to damage any of the landscaped plants (but do trim them at appropriate times) or let the dog out. Upon request, they'll do additional jobs, such as sprinkler head replacement, composting, mulching beds, or planting new plants, including purchasing the plants at the nursery. He'll come as often as you like, but also will come "as needed." That generally means weekly during the late spring and summer (unless we're in a drought) and again when the leaves fall, but bi-weekly and at other times and even just monthly in the winter. read more
