After 30 years of dragging out hoses and sprinklers, we finally decided to have a sprinkler system installed. Talked to three companies and I knew Bluebird was the right one after visiting with Gary. We decided to wait a few months after the quote to the slower season and got a discounted price. I would give them 10 stars if I could! I've been using different irrigation services for 20 years in Austin and Bluebird is by far the best! Reasonably priced and so friendly and punctual. I reached out to several companies via yelp for an irrigation system issue I was having. Bluebird was one of the companies that replied. They were not the cheapest quote I got, but their reviews seemed promising and they were responsive on yelp so I went with them. They let me know their earliest availability which worked out perfectly with my work schedule so I went ahead and scheduled them with an arrival window of 12-2pm. The day before my appointment I got a call while I was at work asking if they could come now instead. I said I wasn't available since I was at work so they said they'd just see me tomorrow at the scheduled time. The morning of my appointment at 8am I get a text from them while I'm at work saying they'll be at my place in 45 minutes. Huh?? My appointment wasn't until noon at the earliest and I was still at work. I called the number that the text instructed me to call if I had any questions. Whoever picked up didn't identify themselves, but I asked why they were on their way if my appointment wasn't until noon. The person said "oh when is your appointment?" I said noon. He said "let me check something and I'll get back to you". Over an hour later I had not heard back from anyone, so I called their listed number on their website. The girl on the phone had no idea why no one had called me back and why they said they were coming at 8am. At this point I was just too annoyed with their scheduling and poor communication. I'll be looking elsewhere for irrigation servicess. read more

Gary is the owner of this family business and the man knows his stuff. The company is crazy busy, so we had to wait a few weeks for the install, but it was worth it. Also, when the newly installed system needed tweaking past 10pm, he showed up immediately and fixed it. When we needed help figuring out how much to water a newly planted area, he came by and checked the soil, added an extension free of charge and educated us. Bluebird Irrigation is honest, careful with your money, extremely knowledgeable and Gary is a fine, kind gentleman, too. During the interview process, I was to learn that he's set up many thousands of grass grow-in schedules over the 25 years of his career. Over 250 of them have been with a Rachio (or other leading brands) web enabled irrigation controller. As a licensed irrigator, Gary is bound by the law to conserve water where possible, and we find that water usage since the installation has been a huge success. read more

I was very nervous about my pool builder destroying my current irrigation system, and they made very clear they wouldn't fix it afterwards. Imagine my stress level... I wanted to find someone that would come to my property and evaluate the situation BEFORE dig day, in case there were something that we could salvage before they'd rip it apart. Most of the contractors I contacted told me they would come after the pool was done, which was not what I needed. Gary understood the situation and made an action plan, which included PROACTIVE measures that would save a lot of time and money after the pool install. He suggested we added a PVC sleeve under the concrete pool deck (before concrete was poured) to reconnect the irrigation system, since my backyard is not that big and the pool would take the majority of it. That idea was on point and worked out really well. He made all the necessary trips to my property when I asked him, because he understood we were on a schedule with different contractors and some steps had to be done in a timely manner in order to move forward. Gary's responsiveness is something that made me feel at peace and taken care of. When the pool was finished, Gary reconnected my old irrigation system and brought my yard to life. Added the necessary new sprinkler heads, adjusted old ones, added new zones, etc. He created a drip zone around the pool deck, and because landscape wasn't done yet, he made in a way I could easily make adjustments once we knew the final design. He had no problem coming back to adjust a few things here and there after the landscape was done. I consider myself a bit of a DIYer, but having an HONEST licensed contractor taking care of these big and stressful projects is everything to me, and I can't thank him enough for his professionalism and attention to detail. Gary was professional and explained what he was doing as he was repairing my irrigation system. He taught me a few things that I didn't know about how easily manifolds can become clogged with dirt which consequently cost me hundreds of extra water bucks w city utilities. He wrote my bill in such a way I was able to protest my $450 water bill. Sadly, Gary didn't allow enough time to finish the requested work. He had to leave in a hurry when he realized ge needed to pick up a family member. I still have a wonky emitter and a zone on the fritz. Nonetheless, I'm confident in this companies work and am giving them a pass for having...one of those days. read more

The tech who serviced, replaced and restored my sprinkler heads did an outstanding job! Great to work with, and a credit to his company. But, office management/owner is a different story. When the tech was informing me of the steps/equipment/cost of each individual item, he failed to inform me of the cost of the "service call," as did his office. it was not until an hour into the repairs that I asked him, "BTW, how much is your service call?" He floored me with "$150/hour!" Shocked, I was taken back since that was the first I ever heard of it! I had lined up 4 companies to come give me a quote, and "$90" seemed to be the consensus/average of most companies! I immediately called his office to speak to the owner about their failure to advise me of this fee before hand, which I would have rejected and not invited to bid. Service was great, value was non expectant and $50 discount was a pittance. I would not recommend BBI for not giving full disclosure of possible bill ahead of time! Thus a very poor rating is all BBI deserves! read more

Our fancy-schmancy irrigation system went on the fritz during this, the hottest summer in ATX since 2011, and hard as we tried to figure out why, we just couldn't. Thank heavens we found Bluebird Irrigation on Yelp! Derrick and Mark showed up as scheduled and assured us they would do their best to solve the mystery. I was all for replacing the dang thing AGAIN, but these wonderful guys dug around (in the 110+ heat, too) and fixed the issue. Today was our second visit from Gary and Bluebird Irrigation, this time to replace the rest of the soon-to-be bad valves and fix a sprinkler head that had blown out. Gary arrived right on time, as with the first time, and got right to work. He had to do the work all on his own due to circumstances beyond his control, and even by 9 am it was well into the 80s, but Gary did the work calmly, quickly, and professionally. He finished within the time frame on the estimate and didn't run into any surprises, so the final invoice was exactly the same as the estimate. Given the quality of the work done these past two trips, I don't anticipate irrigation problems popping up anytime soon. If they do, however, I know I'll be reaching back out to Gary and Bluebird. read more

Bluebird came to our home after a massive water bill indicated a leak in our irrigation system.  Gary and his crew were able to diagnose a problem extremely fast, and did it while being professional, respectful, and explaining the problem in a way a lay person (me!) could understand. The technician sent pictures to me while he was on the job and provided specific documentation to help me with the water company. My sprinkler system had several issues. One was an exposed broken PVC pipe, 3 broken heads, 2 broken buried pipes. I replaced 1 broken head and dug out another only to find it wasn't the head that was broken. Bluebird found the buried pipe and fixed it. They also noticed, while testing each zone, that there was a leak that wasn't obvious. There was a muddy spot without a sprinkler head nearby. He found a hole in the yard that had a sprinkler head that wasn't sprinkling and didn't pop up. There was a broken pipe running to that head. He fixed the broken stuff, realigned the heads so they sprayed grass instead of pavement, tested all the zones. He showed up on time and was fast and friendly. read more

Gary is great. He is extremely professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy, thorough, and helpful when it comes to irrigation systems. This is my first home and my first irrigation system. To say I knew nothing about these systems is an understatement. He really takes the time to explain what he's doing and to answer whatever questions I have. In fact I now know how to operate the system (low bar I know) and after learning from him have repaired several leaks on my own in between services! To keep this balanced, I'll say he probably skews toward the pricier side, but imo you get what you pay for. He came back when he said d he would and completed the work on time and to our complete satisfaction. I was referred to Gary by another firm who was too busy to repair our sprinklers after a backyard renovation cut through some lines. He also installed and set up a Rachio WiFi controller. He was very responsive, adjusting his schedule to meet our timelines and coming out one evening to provide a "worst case" quote. He came in under the estimate by reusing existing pipes. He was always responsive to emails and texts, explaining what he was doing and why. I'd highly recommend him. read more

Update 7/28/22: First I want to say that the Bluebird Irrigation folk have a true interest in making sure their clients are happy and satisfied. My initial review was submitted in a frustration mood. In the past I have had experiences where businesses are not interested in going any further than what they were paid for. That IS NOT the case with Bluebird Irrigation. After my initial review submittal, the Bluebird folk reached out to make things right. This has taught me a lesson that with communication one can go a long way. That there are still business owners whom still care about their clients. Gary the owner came on site today and made things right. He also gave me a crash course on how irrigation devices (valves, etc) work. Just like the other reviewers have pointed out Bluebird Irrigation strives for excellence and give every client the care they need. I also want to add that I made a incorrect statement by saying "that zone wiring got mixed", this was mostly out of ignorance on how irrigation works. The folks at Bluebird Irrigation knew that this was not the issue (they are after all the pros) and Gary showed me how little pebbles and debris can make a irrigation system act 'possessed'. Bluebird Irrigation is an honest business ran by honest people. Outdated review below this line ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really wanted to give these folks a glaring review after seeing so many 5 star reviews from other Bluebird customers. The whole reason why I waited an entire month to have my irrigation system fixed. My thinking was they have flawless reviews their service must be 'white glove'. After waiting a month for my appointment, the Bluebird folks arrived at my property right at the turn of the late afternoon. They got to work on my issue and I left them to their own devices. After a while I came back to offer them some bottled water because it was a hot day that day. Short time after that one of the Bluebird folks knocks on my door and tells me everything is all set. I thank them for their help and they head out. This is where I made my first mistake. I did not test the irrigation system before they left. Next day I was going to run my system in the evening like I always do. I turn on the system and I notice water immediately coming out of the repair area. I was overcome by frustration since I thought the repair had been QC'd by the Bluebird folks. I communicated this immediately to them via text message. I did get a response that they would visit my property the next day by end of day. Bluebird folk come out again to site and somewhat apologize for the inconvenience and making it sound like since my irrigation was 'weirdly configured' that's why the repair didn't go as smooth in the initial visit. Again, I leave Bluebird folk do their job without being one of those nosy homeowners. I do not get to see what the repair looked like since the Bluebird gentleman had already placed all of the remaining dirt and sod back in place. He apologized for not calling me over before doing so. I wanted to trust their work so I did not make a big deal about it. This time around Bluebird gentleman does ask to test the system while he was on site. I started the system and there were not apparent leaks anymore. I felt relief at the moment. Bluebird folk leave my property at that time. Fast forward week and half since initial visit (1st visit was on 12th) and follow up repair and now I have a bigger problem. It seems that while trying to fix the broken pipe somehow my zone cabling got mixed. Now when I start my irrigation system 2nd zone is always triggered with the rest of the zones and some of the sprinkler heads aren't even activating. That is not even counting that the area where the fix was performed was left a mess, with missing dirt and chemical stains (things that I was willing to overlook if repairs worked right). Since I just found out today (7/28/22) that my zones aren't working properly post repair. I am unsure if the Bluebird folks are willing to come back a 3rd time and fix? read more

We had a leak in our sprinkler system fixed prior to covid. Well, turns out it wasn't actually fixed. We called Bluebird and Gary came out to fix the leak, install a new WiFi automatic timer and check the rest of the system. He fixed everything, adjusted the sprinkler heads to work around new landscaping and also found and fixed a faulty solenoid. All in the time it took the last company to 'fix' the original leak. I requested a service to repair the sprinklers. They arrived on time and be here about 1 hour. They didn't fix anything and send me an estimation about $848 to fix the whole system. And then charge me $125. I am not sure is it normal to charge for estimation for irrigation company. Here is the point. If this visit with a cost is plan to fix the one sprinkler, since they didn't fix anything I believe they deserve a 1 star. OR, if the visit is plan to give me an estimate about the whole system, I don't think I should get charged for $125. I has been on Yelp for several years, all the company I've been work with give free estimation. To further clarify, if they are able to fix at least one sprinkler I will be happy to pay the money(though still believe it is expensive) say they are a fair business. But 0 they fix and only give me an estimation. read more

Another guy was recommended and after weeks of waiting, came out, grumped about and said I needed the city and a plumber, both of whom I called. Both did actually find problems unrelated to the irrigation system. He then asked me to check if it had worked - still not working! Now I'm waiting for his estimate. He was kind enough to charge me for a useless diagnosis. Enter Gary and Bluebird - in less than a week. he made the system better than it has been in the 14 years I've lived in this house.
