Courtyard with limestone pavers, 4-6" steel, 3/8" limestone rock, Colorado River Rock for drainage, and some very gnarly roots.
Lee B.

Over the past two years, we've dealt with dozens of contractors: some good, some horrible. Suffice it to say, we know a great contractor when we see one--ADLD is high on that list. We were fortunate to closely work with Kyle, one of the owners. He is exactly what you hope for: someone who listens closely to the client, creatively solves problems, takes ownership of issues when they do arise, and bends over backwards to make things right. We had many reservations about our yard's unique drainage requirements (traditional landscape companies didn't seem to be capable of addressing when an entire yard slopes), and so ADLD became the logical choice given their drainage expertise, and they executed a design we gave them. Our only advice would be to ensure if landscape design, not just drainage, is involved, request an english-speaking crew member as sometimes the finer details can be lost in translation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ADLD's services.

They helped us when our home was flooded by a botched "drainage" job from another company

They went above and beyond the call of duty to help us fix a fraudulent drainage job from an incompetent contractor who took our money & ran. Dale was awesome & the employees were professional! ADLD saved our home from flooding and everything still works.

October 30th. Water moving away from the house
Lance L.

It's October 31st, after +8 inches of heavy rain and our house is dry. I have to say we are extremely happy with the work Austin Drainage did for us. In the past, We had several very close calls and decided we had better get a professional to help. Austin drainage is really the only company in the Austin area that does water remediation as their primary business and they are good at it. We used all their suggestions and are very pleased (swale, drains, gutters). Everything they installed worked exactly as planned. If we had not had this work down, I'm certain we would have had water in our house. When we first called them it was after the Memorial Day flooding and they had a huge backlog of work. We had to wait ~6 weeks for an appointment. Dale kept us informed, started earlier than promised, left a very clean worksite and came in under budget. During the work, one of our sprinkler controls was accidentally cut, he fixed that promptly also. If you are concerned about water drainage damaging your property, I highly recommend these guys.

Swale cut to allow water to drain away from patio. Water previously pooled on patio due to lawn sloping toward patio.

I hired Austin Drainage & Landscape to resolve two drainage issues on my property -- pooling on side of house, and on my back patio. For the side, they installed an underground drain (custom built concrete drain box on side of house, into a 4" PVC pipe, terminating through a hole bored in the curb), and cut a swale in the backyard to divert water from the patio. The good: The actual crew who did the work did a great job. They were polite and very neat (all dirt removed during trenching/digging was placed on plastic sheets on the lawn, and it was a good thing, because we had a major rain storm in the middle of the project, and this prevented a muddy mess on the lawn). They paid attention to detail. The final result looked great. Several neighbors commented how good the yard looked, like it hadn't been touched, despite the tremendous amount of digging that had occurred. The not so good. I almost pulled the plug on these guys due to various missteps on the pre-sales / pre-work side of things: * Initial project manager assigned to my job was, in my opinion, incompetent. His initial plan completely failed to address my #1 drainage problem. Not impressed. * The initial project manager ordered a survey (which normally cost hundreds of dollars, which is credited back to the cost of the project) without my consent. I did not order the survey because at that point in the process I was still weighing bids from different drainage contractors. * Lead time was several weeks to a couple of months, I understand that. However, the actual start date was far off the expected start date that was communicated to me. I understand delays happen, but I would have appreciated some proactive communication from them to me about it. I found out about the delays only through calling the office myself, as I was coordinating the start of an irrigation system install with a separate contractor following completion of ADLD's work. Despite these issues, I wanted to give ADLD a chance, because my experience getting estimates from other drainage contractors wasn't much better, and ADLD has a better reputation. So I called ADLD, patiently explained my issues, and to their credit, they assigned a new project manager who came up with a new plan I was happy with, acknowledged their mistake on ordering the survey, and waived the cost of the survey. So, in summary, I would probably hire these guys again because the quality of their work is top-notch, and because they were genuinely concerned about the issues I raised, and made a good faith effort to resolve them. However, if you hire them, plan to stay on top of things to make sure you're getting exactly what you want. And be prepared to wait if you hire them during the busy season.

Fine print of the contract mentioning the option to charge you $125/hr for jackhammering on top of your estimate.
Geoff L.

My existing gutter set up did not really make sense and was starting to create some valleys in my yard, so I wanted a better drainage system installed. I chose this company because I couldn't really find any others that seemed to focus specifically on drainage on Yelp. They came out and gave an estimate pretty quickly. But then it was difficult to get responses via email or phone when I wanted to make changes to the project or discuss the scope. It turned into long-term phone tag for a couple months. Then Harvey happened and I decided to just accept the original estimate and scope rather than waiting any longer than I already had. They notified me they we starting the project at 5pm the night before which did not make me happy because I had to notify my neighbor about some work involving his property. They came and started the work the next morning. The "project manager" Dale who was not there called me shortly after they began. He notified me that they were concerned about having to jackhammer bedrock, and if they had to do that, it would cost $125/hr on top of the estimate. I was furious because I live in Northwest Hills which obviously has a ton of bedrock to deal with for projects like this (and some was even visible above ground in the area where the work was being done). We talked about there likely being bedrock to deal with when he came out for the estimate and he never mentioned the possibility of any extra charge. I ran outside to see how much work had already been done and they had already dug a trench around my whole yard before mentioning this. They already had a 15% deposit from me, which I now understood was to give me no choice about accepting the upcharge. I had to either agree and allow them to continue - or lose at least 15% and end up with my yard torn up. When I asked repeatedly why this extra fee wasn't mentioned, I was referred to the fine print of the contract I signed (which you can see in the photo attached). Indeed it is mentioned in the fine print on the otherwise blank second page. Very well played, you may have a future with a fine organization like Time Warner. After complaining extensively to the project manager and office manager, I had gotten nowhere. I had to let them finish the project. They said they would try to limit the hours of jackhammering expense. I was told the project manager would check in with me throughout the day, but I never heard from him again. When I went to check on the project towards the end of the day and make sure some poison ivy removal included in the quote had been done, they were gone. I had never heard another word from anyone, I just received a request for the payment balance at the end of the day by phone. I checked out the work and they had not put up gutters or a downspout in one area where they were supposed to, the poison ivy had not been removed, a condensation line had not been connected to the drainage system, and the ground had not been adequately filled in where the previous issues were. All of these things were included in the estimate. I would think if there were a project manager, I would not be billed the balance until the work was done, but no one seemed to know it wasn't done, so they just billed me. I work from home, so I would also expect the chance to review the work when it was done rather than having to schedule a special appointment to do this afterwards. A few days later they came out and reviewed the work that hadn't been completed and finished the project - and of course were harassing me for payment again (without reviewing the work with me) before the end of the day. There charged me every penny for the 3 hours of additional jack-hammering charges, + $375. It was a really bad experience all around.

3 weeks wait time to schedule an inspection is completely absurd. If your service is in demand and you have no competition, then staff up.

They handled the full transformation: Texas native plants, fresh sod, irrigation, lighting, a new patio with poured concrete pavers, a pergola, and decking built around our above-ground pool. The result feels intentional, cohesive, and well suited to both the climate and how we use the space. We worked with their designers to develop the plan, and that process was smooth and collaborative. They listened, had good instincts, and were happy to iterate with us until the design felt right. From first contact to breaking ground took about three months, which felt reasonable given the scope. Once construction started, everything moved fast--the entire project was completed around two to three weeks. Most importantly, we're extremely happy with the outcome. The yard is beautiful and dramatically more usable than before. Jason and Nikk were a pleasure to work with throughout: friendly, proactive, communicative, with good taste and a strong sense for design. I'd happily recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their outdoor space.

While all the companies, including Southern Landscaping and Design, were nice and responsive, I feel the need to share our experience regarding their pricing. The quotes we received from the first three companies ranged between $9,000 and $11,000, which seemed reasonable for the scope of work. However, Southern Landscaping and Design came back with a quote of just over $28,000--nearly three times the amount of the other bids. I'm sure they do great work, but this level of pricing feels excessive and difficult to justify. I wanted to share this as a heads-up for anyone considering them. It's always worth getting multiple quotes to ensure you're paying a fair price.

He's always quick to respond, enthusiastic about the projects, and takes a real pride in his work and making sure things are done in a way that will last. We did a complete backyard overhaul and transformed it from a bare mud pit to a backyard oasis that we now love spending time in now: new sod on half the hard, paver patio and crushed granite on the other half, limestone retaining wall and mulch bed on the back wall, drainage, and irrigation through out. We had an old and non functioning irrigation system that we inherited from the previous owners and rather than just ripping it up and charging us for a new one, Aaron spent hours servicing and getting it to work, and then customized it to work with the new yard layout. We also had some freak of nature downpour of rain pretty soon after the big project was complete, which washed away some of the granite and caused the patio to settle with some dips. Aaron came back and fixed it all and added in additional drainage to keep it from happening again. Aaron is my guy forever now - extremely fair on pricing, honest, full of integrity, thorough, and just an all around nice guy. You won't be disappointed if you choose to work with him.

After the job completed, Aaron has always been incredibly willing to share advice for landscaping situations that we've encountered since the original installation. His knowledge is very deep and always leads to the expected outcome. I recommend Austin Yard Barber without hesitation.

I did a lot of research on artificial turf companies servicing the Brushy Creek area and after some shopping around, came across Umesh and KG Lawn Care. After receiving some ridiculous quotes from some of the "bigger" artificial turf companies, offering a lower grade of turf for a substantially higher price, I went forward with the project with Umesh and KG Lawn Care. Umesh took on my project of installing approximately 1000 sqft of artificial turf, metal edging, and black star gravel around some cypress trees. Roughly a month before starting, I expressed to Umesh my desire to have the project completed in time for our family's annual crawfish boil, which he assured me he would fulfill. I can't say enough positive things about Umesh, Lucas, and their crew. As we neared the date of my family's party, Umesh assured me that he would push to make the deadline, even with unpredictable central Texas weather. Umesh not only kept to his promise in finishing the project in time for our party, but also knocked it out of the park! The artificial turf looks incredible and instantly became my daughter's favorite place to play. Umesh and his crew put a level of detail into the project in ensuring every aspect was perfect for my family. As pleased as I am with the project itself, the most noteworthy aspect I want to highlight in this review is how Umesh does business. In a world where so many are looking to cut corners, charge more, and provide less, I found that Umesh is a man of immense integrity who keeps to his word. Umesh delivered on his promise to ensure my yard was immaculate for my family's party, but most notably, his promise on pricing. A day before our turf was set to be installed, Umesh was notified by the turf company that the turf we picked out was no longer available (with zero warning). Umesh was forced to upgrade the turf at a difference of nearly $800. I offered to split the difference with Umesh but was told: "Nah man, it's all good. I like to keep my word and pricing. It's not your fault." This really struck me that Umesh was willing to eat $800 in order to keep his word with me on pricing. KG Lawn Care exceeded my expectations and truly helped me complete my dream back yard - The quality of work and character of Umesh will have me recommending him and his company to all my family and friends!

They quickly replied through Yelp once I sent them a message and the estimator was here in a couple of days for an estimate and to provide guidance. He was very helpful in making the decisions we choose. We pretty much revamped our entire landscape. New Sod, removal of old sod and installation of zero scape/natural flat stones/gravel. Replanted all the beds, reworked sprinkler system and a massive trim out of existing shrubs and the sort. Not inexpensive, however they were still less expensive then another service, who suggested such things as a French drain, which really didn't make sense and came in a couple grand higher. The crew were numerous and were on time, courteous and knocked out the project in only a few days. One slight slip was the sod was not available on the last day, so we skipped a day and had the job completed the day after. It still was in the time frame they informed us on to begin with and let us know the day before the sod was to be installed. The result of their hard work will be truly noticed when the new plantings take hold. We have been fortunate with having several days of rain and cool weather. A couple of weeks in the sod has taken hold and none of the plantings have died and are all perking up from the transplanting experience. We are very happy with the results and the ease of working with PRT from start to finish.
