Gardel has become an absolute favorite of ours over the last few months - especially with the addition of the cheese fondue for the winter/cold months! We have taken several of our friends and last night held my husband's birthday dinner there - everyone raved about the food. Gardel is such a great hidden gem. The service every time I have visited has been some of the best ever. The wine is well curated with a rotating menu & unique. The beer menu is also quite unique with a few crisp refreshing beer options. The food changes but I've found it to always be delicious & worth asking your server what they recommend that day. The interior is pretty small but never seems over busy or packed. Great place for a glass of wine, small plate, date or intimate outing. read more

We had a great experience at Gardel with my family. We had the empanadas to start, great choice. Flaky and toasty on the outside with scrumptiously savory filling. Everything was shared family style, the carne was just right at medium rare and the chimichurri pulled it all together. The meatball was a hit and we ordered another. The squid pasta was well prepared and flavorful however, the pasta type was just ok. To round it out we had chicken kabab with chimichurri twice because it was that good. We had a free order of empanadas from A yelp event and decided to make it a dinner. We celebrated our anniversary with this amazing tasting. Parking is on the street but is plentiful. It's a smaller place so make a reservation. Our server was Mateo and he was wonderful. Very kind. Knowledgeable. And fantastic taking care of us. Fantastic experience from start to finish. Our server Tony was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He knew exactly when to check on us and when to give us space. We shared a large variety of dishes and every one of them was tasty! We really loved the Gardel sauce served with the steak. It was bright acidic and salty perfection. The mushrooms and brie dish was delightful! The marshmallow and peanut dessert with grapes was so creative and delicious. Everything tasted like a home run. The prices are reasonable and even after sharing many savory dishes, ordering ALL the desserts, and splitting a bottle of wine, the total cost felt like a bargain considering we had just traveled to Argentina by way of Spain and Italy. The food was so good that I forgot to take any photos of it. Lol. I work server was so helpful and nice and we tried a couple of things on the menu. I didn't get any drinks this time, but they looked great and we'll have to do it next time. We came in on a Saturday night later so it wasn't too crowded so even though I made a reservation. We could've definitely just come in and grabbed a table. The Choco flan was delicious and the croquettes were to die for. Can't wait to come back in. What a cute spot. read more

Came here for opening night and we will definitely be back! We only came for drinks and dessert but were given a pan con tomate for the table. The pan con tomate were amazing, the olives were definitely on the salty side. Tony was an amazing server and was very attentive! The room to the left was very cozy and warm, which is where we sat. I think that the room to the right was slightly too bright, which is where the bar was situated. The cookie trio was very good and paired well with the wine we ordered. Ugh I hate to be writing such a negative review for a restaurant I was so initially excited to visit. I had been waiting months to try Gardel after seeing positive reviews online. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. It also was my worst ever dining experience in Providence. I don't ever write negative reviews, but this dining experience was so bad that I had to in hopes that Gardel can take feedback and improve the experience. To start, there were fruit flies in my wife's tinto de verano. 2 of them to be exact. We tried the Gardel special fries. I let out an audible sigh of sadness at these. They were the soggiest fries I have ever eaten in my life, and I am a fry connoisseur. I lifted a fry out of the bowl, and there was probably about 1/4 cup of water in the bottom of the bowl. I'm not sure where that came from, but the fries were so awful we didn't finish them. Finally, the 170g steak. Woof. I don't consider myself a picky eater, but I could have gone to Shaw's and bought / grilled a steak better than the one I was presented. Slightly gray, way over salted. Just plain terrible. And at $26 for 170 grams, I expect a quality cut and cook. The Gardel sauce that came with it basically tasted like someone poured soy sauce and caper together and called it good. For a place that claims to have high quality Argentinian-style meats, I was totally let down. It seemed like whoever was doing the cooking was doing so with little feeling, little attention to detail and no care. The ingredients weren't quality, and the chef clearly wasn't feeling any passion. Gardel - I'm rooting for you, and I hope you can turn it around. That being said, I wasted $90 tonight on time and money I'll never get back. I felt disrespected by a meal and chef that truly seemed not to care at all. read more

Empanadas were fabulous. And the wine--Merlot and Malbec--was truly delicious. The Spanish Tortilla was first-rate. Tomas, the owner, was very gracious. I came here with a few friends over the weekend and was sadly disappointed by the food. The service was great, and the ambiance was intimate, but the main entree left much to be desired. While the cheese plate was fine and the vegetables were more tasty, the fish was unfortunately one of the blandest dishes I've ever eaten and the mushrooms on top were basically raw. Argentine excellence! I'm always ecstatic to hear about Latin additions to Providence's cuisine scene, and this place is no exception. We visited on a busy Friday night and were lucky to get a table for two. My partner, who is Argentinian, was transported to his mom's cooking through Gardel's delicious Empanadas and Milanese. We topped our food off with a decadent Alfajor. If you know, you know- and if you don't, I suggest you try! The interior is intimate and romantic but still casual and eclectic. The food was impeccable and servers were all attentive and friendly. This place is already a new favorite. Came here for dinner and loved the whole experience. We started with the jamón ibérico, which was hands down the best I've had in the US -- just as good as what I've tried in Spain. I would honestly come back just for that and a glass of wine. The croquetas (béchamel and prosciutto) were also incredible, exactly like the ones I've had in Spanish tapas bars. We loved them so much we ordered another round. The skirt steak was perfectly prepared, and the Gardel sauce was a surprise favorite. It's a salty, briny, olive-forward sauce unlike anything I've had before, and it really elevated the steak. Overall, this place is a gem. Great New Ethnic Restaurant My wife and I went to Gardel for the first time last night. It was early on a Wednesday night; we were warmly greeted and quickly seated. Service was outstanding, as was the food. I had the steak which was excellently cooked and excellently flavored. My vegetarian wife had a croqueta and a tortilla di papa, which she also rated as excellent. We shared the cookies desert; terrific! Service was friendly and very competent. Finally, the menu featured some very unusual and interesting cocktails, as well as a great selection of wines, primarily from Argentina. Great addition to the neighborhood. Very authentic Angentine charm, place has a lively feel and romantic lighting. The staff was very attentive and engaging. Tony was great and I would return. Had a great Malbec and the charcuterie was great with cheese aged and salami and served with crostini. the Empanadas had a smoky shredded beef goodness and decent serving size. We too were blown away by the food. We walked in with another couple at 7pm on a Wednesday night and had the owner as a server. We mentioned a few "glitches" to him like...you need to change your sign from Noodles to Gardel and your phone system doesn't work right now...he is aware and will address each issue soon.
