We originally chose Garbo's for convenience. We just landed in Austin and it is the closest restaurant to our hotel. Great food, friendly servers and clean environment. Seafood is very fresh, fries and chips are executed well (crispy but not oily and properly salted). soft serve was pretty good with lots of toppings options. Kiddo loved the outside area which has a small playground. We are here on a short 3 day trip and will definitely visit again before we leave! read more

The service is amazing. The only way I can see myself going back is for a great oyster deal. I'm from the south and we season our seafood a lot different, which I found out I like way better. The portion was spot on but lacking flavor. The oysters were great. The inside of this place actually feels like you are having a meal near the ocean or on a ship. Made it to Garbo's tonight, and had an A+ experience. We did a lot of their delivery during 'rona, but nothing beats getting it straight out of the kitchen. We had not been to their new location yet, and wow, their remodel is exactly what I want my coast house to look like...when I get a coast house. (soon!). Everything from the light choices, to the weathered wood, to the color scheme, to the adorable plates/bowls was so nicely done. Wednesday is $2 oyster night, and we tried each they had. One I didn't care for (total preferce thing on my part, not a buttery oyster fan), but the other two were great. I loved that they labeled them; when we get a variety of oysters at other places, we always forget which one is which like three seconds after they tell us. We each got a lobster roll, hubby Main style and I got the Connecticut. They were just as amazing as always, and packed with a ton of lobster. We got a cup of clam chowder. It had great flavor and consistency, but not a lot of clams. We did enjoy dipping our fries in it. My exciting find? Their Del's frozen lemonade is SO damn good and it's hard to describe how fresh/fruity it is... it was just "bright" (the word that comes to mind). Nothing artificial about it. I tried it "as is" at first and then added vodka. I will definitely get it again. Heck, I'd even stop by just to get one to go. Our waitress was remarkable...attentive and so personable. I've been looking for a good fish and chips place in Austin for a while and finally found it! The portions are incredibly large and great value for money. The batter on the fish is crispy and flakey, yet the fish inside is tender and just falls apart in your mouth. Also, at $10 for a small (actually rather large!) bowl of Lobster Bisque, if that's your thing it's DELICIOUS! I'd highly recommend giving Garbo's a try! read more

Unfortunately they don't have the brunch they used to have. We used to love the brunch here. Their online menu still shows the brunch menu, waitress confirmed they have brunch but when I went to order the lobster Benedict I had been looking forward to all week I was told they no longer serve brunch and offered lobster avocado toast instead. I came with 3 other people at 1pm on a weekday. The place was empty at the time. Big venue, lots of seating. Has the feeling of being seaside. I don't notice anything dirty or unkept that stood out. Their lunch special burgers would be the only thing I would likely come back for. Outside of that, I feel their pricing is that of something you would see in downtown Austin. I had 3 mini lobster rolls and it was approx $45 with tax. The burgers that were ordered came out and was 50/50 if they were done at the requested temperature. The sodas are being served in cans which is very strange for any restaurant to be doing nowadays. There were a few times we tried to get the servers attention and there was none around. At one point another pair of guests came in that stood there for sometime till someone came out and assisted. 3 stars are for pricing, service, and quality of food is all, just ok. read more

Both rolls were chocked full... FULL of lobster! My Maine Roll's light lemony mayo was scrumptious. And the roll - sweet, nicely toasted. Yum. Friend had clam chowder which I tasted. Thick THICK with clams - you could eat it with a fork! Fries were perfect - crunchy but fluffy inside, evenly salted. And then there's the Key Lime pie. Tart, sweet, lemony... friend thought it was the best key lime pie she's ever had! Great seating on the deck. Garbo's doesn't allow inside seating. Very COVID compliant. Friendly, happy servers. Go! SO disappointed! The restaurant was FREEZIING, the service was awful, but most of all the food was terrible. There was SO much breading on the fish and chips, and nothing was seasoned at all. And not even salt and pepper on the table. My husband's fried shrimp were incredibly overdone so they were dry tasteless, and again not seasoned at all. I do not understand where these great reviews come from. There's no way we will go back. This is our Go To for fresh New England oysters in north Austin. They do not serve gulf oysters or anything southern which is why I go. If you want juicy fried oysters, go to the Boat or Hook & Reel. This place transports you to the east coast and they usually have at least 3 fresh options daily. They are famous for the lobster roll (2 styles) and it's good but I usually get the fried fish and chips or fried shrimp. Their signature cocktail is the Grog and it tastes like a proper Hurricane served with the fancy shaved ice pellets. They also have oyster shooters with vodka floater and caviar topper! Yum! You can bring your dog to their patio which has misters. And they have a playscape for kids and Softserve ice cream (Conners). It's super casual. The reason for my 3 star rating is for multitude of reasons one the spacing on the inside it seems like you're sitting right under people outside spacing is not very spacious but the 1 thing that really got under my skin was when we went there this was doing covid they charge you for A service charge that they didn't explained to you you found out after you paid your bill. read more

This little gem is located in North Austin on Mopac near Parmer. It used to be the old Opal Divines. If you love seafood and oysters from different locations, this is the place to go! They just opened a new location on South Lamar. They have daily specials and my faves are Wednesday for $1 off oysters and Thursday for Garbos burger. The freshest ingredients all the time. This is my second time coming to Garbos, and my child's first. My kid is usually really picky, but they really loved it. We came in, asked to be sat outside, and were seated promptly. We were greeted within two minutes of being sat by one man, but soon two other servers (I'm assuming one was being trained) came and took over. They were sweet. My kid ordered from the kids menu the mozzarella sticks and a kids burger, no cheese. And I asked our server(s) if they preferred the lobster mac or the lobster grilled cheese. She recommended the grilled cheese, and it was incredible. She definitely made the right call. I had the Caesar last time, so I ordered that as a side again, too. Everything came out fairly quickly. The croutons in the salad were crunchy with a delightful texture, the salad wasn't over dressed, and the grilled cheese was to die for. My child said everything on their end was "really good", too. Over the course of our time there, I had two drinks. Started with sangria, which was nice, light, with a little bit of baking/winter spice behind it. And the second was the grog. My best friend was on the hunt for a lobster roll. Her favorite place was booked so we tried this place out. I have had the lobster roll before since the food truck has visited our office so I thought she should try it. With a cool day like it was outside, I ordered the lobster grilled cheese that comes with a tomato soup. The others ordered the Taste of Maine and two Maine lobster rolls. I loved my dish. The lobster grilled cheese was so good. It was full of flavor. We enjoyed everything we ended up with. My friend didn't enjoy her fish and chips so she ordered the Maine Lobster roll instead and enjoyed it very much. Service was good and our server was helpful. We came with a cake and my friend let them know that the cake was a surprise. We had it brought out after our meal. The server informed us that there was a $15 fee to have them cut the cake. We never had a restaurant ask that since we always cut our own cake. Good to know. Thank you Garbo's for the delicious lobster grilled cheese. read more
