Highly recommend hiring Gar Hing for your next move! My husband and I hired them (after 2 friends recommended them) to move us from a 1br apartment to a 2br/home office, and also to pack us up. Our entire apartment was packed in 3 hours, we were out in 2 hours and into the new place 2 hours later (and they reassembled our couch, bed and dining table)! They move so efficiently and are so careful and meticulous -- have seen no issues thus far as we unpack (and have already unpacked delicate glassware, a ton of wine and serving dishes). They were on time and so pleasant to work with, and we would 100% hire them again. I enthusiastically recommend Gar Hing Moving, as they did an impeccable job with our recent apartment move, not to mention that they were reasonably priced, calm, and punctual. I've had several relocations within NYC and this by far went the smoothest. I had learned of Gar Hing from a former boss at work, who'd hired them to move him and his family. I evaluated over a dozen moving companies and selected Gar Hing because of the perceived value that I was getting relative to the price I was paying. We sent Gar Hing Moving (garhingmoving@gmail.com) a detailed list estimating the key furniture and number of boxes we had, and also requested their assistance in packing our kitchen. Luna responded with an estimate and we also did a walk-through of the apartment via FaceTime so she could see easily what belongings we had. We were pretty exact about the amount of items we had and the amount of time the move would take, which was about 2.25 hours in the same neighborhood. The final price was exactly as quoted. We had a few other questions in the days preceding our move, and Luna was always patient and quick to respond to my emails, and also sent my apartment building the COI well in advance. Overall, I was very pleased with the service. The crew of three arrived exactly on time; they spoke both English and Chinese; and while I was happy (or anxious) to lend a hand, they jokingly said that I should let them handle everything because they are more careful than I am. And they were right! It appears all our belongings are accounted for and we haven't noticed any imperfections or damages. The experience was seamless and I was delighted to provide a 20% tip. Recommended by a friend, these guys are about as fast as movers could be. They managed to empty two apartments in less than 90 minutes and finished moving everything into the new apartment within 2 hours. They were about 4 men working, each disassembling furniture and stacking various boxes with every load. Despite the heavy furniture and random walkups, they moved swiftly and efficiently. There was even a large moving truck (constantly manned by at least one to move in case of traffic violations) that could pack and haul away more than a few homes worth of stuff. They could have been a little more delicate with the furniture, but it seemed that rushing the move was their agenda. English was almost non-existent with all of them, but try Cantonese or Mandarin for better luck. Ironically, they told me the majority of their clientele aren't Chinese speakers. Price wise, they're cheaper than the average moving company but will probably seem expensive for those of you who have used Chinese movers before. Two apartments in roughly 2 hours cost $500 with tip. Phone manners were good and the woman behind the phone is very good about keeping track of details. She was just really bad at remembering how many pieces of furniture we had, causing a little headache with the movers and we were charged a little extra as a result. They may get a call from me again, but not without a little hesitation. read more

Gar Hing was great. I had a complicated move: pack up a Brooklyn apartment, including stuff down steep basement stairs. Empty a Brooklyn storage unit. Drive both to New Jersey, 90 minutes away, and then unload half in another apartment and half of in a local storage unit. Luna of the main office gave me a price that was very fair and I had seen them move a friend of mine in Brooklyn and heard they did a great job for her. Luna was very responsive by both email and text, even when my move date suddenly changed, making a two-day job into a do-it-now one-day job. She provided proof of insurance to my new landlord. She sent two crew and two trucks and they got the whole job done in one very loooooong day. Didn't take a break, didn't complain and wrapped everything really carefully, including some fragile antiques. Nothing broken. Tian, the crew chief, was terrific and patient, even when problems cropped up -- delays finding a freight elevator at my new address and having to change storage units when the first had a leak. He also put together not only the bed I'd moved but the one I'd had in storage. I hope I tipped them generously enough. I highly recommend Gar Hing. read more

I'm really torn over this moving company. Over 10 of my coworkers have used them in the past, and they came highly recommended. I used them for my move last summer, and while they were very efficient and careful with my things, they upped the price $200 over the initial quote once we got to the final location. Not cool. Not to mention they were running an hour behind. So this year, when I was in the position to move, yet again...I emailed them assuming the price would be identical with what I paid the last time (including the $200 upcharge) considering I have the same lot of stuff. Nope. The quote came in a little shy of $700, when I paid $500 the last time! Naturally I contested this to which I was told by the home office to produce a receipt. What?!! Needless to say, I went with an alternate moving company, who showed early, came in at $450 (lower than what I'd paid with Gar Hing before) and were done in the same amount of time. Save your money, go elsewhere (A Moveable Feat). I'll definitely be spreading the word at my work!! read more

We just used Gar Hing and are very satisfied. Long story short: Large 1BR = $550 = 2.5 hours = you pack, they just carry boxes and furniture Long story long: They actually called to see if they could come early and I said yes, anxious to get the move over with! Three men showed up and were very friendly but also got down to business. It felt like I barely turned around and most of my stuff was already in the truck! They were Chinese/Vietnamese but did speak English, in case any of you are afraid of communication problems. One in particular, however, was more fluent than the others so he's probably the point man. I dropped a star because they did seem a little rough with my stuff, even though everything got to my new place in one piece, so maybe I shouldn't complain. Another hiccup was that they got a parking ticket and asked me to pay for it, but the surprised look on my face made them agree to split it 50-50. I wasn't sure what the protocol is in that situation, and after looking it up online, apparently it is standard that the customer pays the ticket, which also surprised me. I was about to give them a huge tip but I was a little soured by that at the time and knocked the tip down. If it is customary though, I do regret not tipping them more because they were really nice and very efficient. Bottom line: They're super nice, super fast, insured and I would recommend them. read more

A friend just sent me a note asking me who we used for a mover in Feb and I found myself actually recommending a mover for the first time ever. We actually moved the 2nd to last weekend in Feb, the day after our last big snow storm, and were worried they would not be able to move us, but they were there and did a great job. I was recommended to Gar Hing by a friend who has used them several times, and I'm so glad she told us about them. The rates were really reasonable and the team is really easy to work with. Luna and Shirley helped me to book the move. They were helpful both over the phone and through email, and easily provided the COI as required by the buildings. We had a pretty large move (about 60 boxes and furniture) with a lot of old furniture we wanted them to dump also. We had the elevator reserved from 9-12 at our old place and 1-4 in our new place, but they were so quick and efficient that they were finished by 12:30! And that's with them waiting to use the elevator at the new place because they were so early. The movers brought blankets, tape, etc and none of that costed extra. There might be a slight language barrier - one of the guys spoke really little English but the other two were fine. I would definitely use Gar Hing again in the future. read more

These movers are top-notch! Came recommended by my husband who used them twice previously and an acquaintance of ours who used them recently for their family in the city. Summary: They are POLITE, CAREFUL, CONSIDERATE, EFFICIENT, and INEXPENSIVE. The knowledgeable receptionist for Gar Hing quickly assessed what I needed to move on the phone and immediately gave me a reasonable quote. She was so helpful with the questions of how the logistics would work on moving day (as we had two locations to move) and protecting the items. She also quickly provided our co-op with the necessary insurance papers. On moving day, the 3 movers impressed even my parents who are experienced in moving. We had to move large items from my parents' home in NJ and then from our apartment in NYC. They arrived EARLY into NYC even after completing the first pickup in NJ and were extremely careful with everything we had. The movers not only were insured, but supplied the requested masonite floor protection required of the apt co-op. Despite the pouring rain, the 3 movers patiently made sure our items did not get wet. They asked where to put each box they brought in so the items would be in the appropriate rooms. They were so careful to stay on the contractor's paper we had placed on the floors to protect them as they were newly refinished. The movers even encouraged to check all items and the walls/floors for any damage - there was no damage to any of these. We will continue to use them! They come highly recommended. read more

I searched far and wide for a moving company to assist in a 1 bedroom move to a location less than 5 miles away. After speaking with over 6 companies and getting extremely high quotes or being asked to pay upfront, I decided to try Gar Hing upon the recommendation of a friend. I am SO GLAD I hired Gar Hing. They showed up 30 minutes early, moved out my stuff within 45 minutes and had it delivered to my new place within 1 hour. The entire process started at 2:30pm and ended by 4pm. They were extremely professional, wrapped all of my furniture and moved it carefully to avoid scratching walls or breaking things. They also took apart my huge queen bed frame and reassembled it at the new place. All of my belongings, including fragile glass items arrived in perfect condition. I highly recommend Gar Hing moving. I've used them in 4 different moves over the last few years, from uptown to downtown, Manhattan to Queens and back, and they are the nicest, most efficient, and least expensive option I've found compared with other moving companies, quoting prices at nearly half of the non-Chinese movers. BEST MOVERS EVER - HANDS DOWN! These guys arrive on time and work hard. They work fast too. Three men show up at your door, don't talk at all, wrap up all your furniture neatly with blankets and tape to make sure nothing gets scratched or broken and drive it to your destination QUICKLY. There is no dilly-dallying here. What was even more impressive? I was crying when I found out my couch would not fit in my new apartment. They removed the windows and tossed my couch through the opening, while the others caught it. It was not an easy task and while anyone else would have just said sorry - they saw how upset I was and tried anyways. I was amazed. I tipped them well. They moved my apartment very quickly -- but took the care necessary to ensure that all of things arrived in perfect condition -- this mot recent move they moved my studio apartment out in only 30 minutes! Gar Hing was highly recommended by several friends, and I have to say, we were very satisfied with their service. We'd definitely use them again, and recommend them for any local move in and around NYC! We moved from NYC to NJ, and we needed a basic, no-frills mover. We decided (somewhat reluctantly) to do all the packing ourselves, so it didn't make sense to go with one of the expensive moving companies who specialize in packing up your apartment for you. They just couldn't compete with Gar Hing's prices. On moving day, Gar Hing sent 3 guys to complete the move. They arrived on time and worked efficiently, and man, were they fast. It took them about an hour and a half to pack up our one-bedroom apartment, and then they drove to NJ (we went separately on the train), and they unpacked very speedily. (We actually had to call our new building and move up the time slot because Gar Hing was so fast!). The reason I knocked off one star was because I felt they could have been maybe a little more careful with our furniture - we found some minor scratches and dents on the woodwork, and our kitchen trashcan was dented (but they popped it back into place). Nothing major though, and frankly, that's probably a fair trade-off given how fast and efficiently they worked. I was also pleased that they stuck to the agreed price without trying to change it or upcharge (always my fear with moving companies), but I was VERY careful to be as detailed as possible when listing how much stuff we had (I even had my mother call and detail it in Mandarin). The coordinator (I think her name is Shirley?) is quite responsive over phone and email, but I don't think their online quote request form works, at least it didn't for me. So in the end, it was a 3 hour move from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom, from NYC to NJ, for about $700 (including tolls, not including tip). All in all, a very satisfactory experience. They got everything out of my apt super fast (1/2 hour or so!) which was an easy "out" being on the ground floor, but moving into my new duplex apartment was challenging with getting furniture up the steps. They expertly unassembled and reassembled several pieces of furniture in order to make this happen and I was very grateful they were able to do this instead of just leaving it downstairs and saying "sorry, cant get it upstairs" (or not being able to reassemble it properly). Because of this they charged a little more than what was quoted but I thought it was fair given the challenging circumstances and how well they handled it. Incredible, honestly. So reasonable, so SO fast and efficient, extremely nice, never try to collect more money than they've quoted (I've moved with them 4 times). I'll never move with anybody else, I recommend them to all of my friends, I've recommended them to strangers that I've overheard were moving because I feel so strongly about how great they are that I can't keep my mouth shut. They're one of the few services left that will charge you a fair price to get it done, unlike a company like Flat Rate that quotes 2.5 to 3 times more than what Gar Hing will quote and then they'll try to charge you more, whereas Gar Hing won't. Also, they don't charge by the hour, like a lot of other moving companies so you don't have to worry about them taking their time to rack up fees.
