Horrible customer service and potentially a horrible policy. I bought several brand new SEALED games from GameStop.com and needed to return them. They were 3 brand new Switch 2 games, completely factory sealed and within the return window. An employee named BRYAN, a senior associate there that clearly didn't want to be there evidenced by his bed hair, told me that they could not accept the return because GameStop.com orders have a special return system and needed to be returned to specific stores around the country. That doesn't make sense for a completely unmarked, completely factory sealed game. Even worse, I had talked to GameStop.com customer service before going to the brick and mortar store who told me the returns were all cleared to be done at this particular store. Now I got to call them back, wait another hour to talk somebody and be told the same thing? This is crazy and HORRENDOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. If this employee Bryan is incorrect, then he would've wasted one hour of my time to drive to the store, one hour of talking to customer service, and he was simply lazy to do the return himself (there was a line forming behind me). Now I have to repeat this process again and maybe not be able to return this at all? I am canceling everything GameStop from my account and never giving a cent to his store (potentially company) ever again. Everyone should BEWARE heading to this store. Funcoland was the only good game store in this mall and that was like 20 years ago. read more

Called 3:30pm to ask if they had an item in stock. Told only one left. I asked if they could put it on hold for 3 hours. Denied. Clerk suggested I call before going there to confirm it hasn't been sold. Sucks but I understand. 6:30pm rolls around and I call asking if it's still available. Told yes but since they close soon they can hold it for me until tomorrow. ??? I get there shortly after to buy it. Clerk can't find it. Apparently the first clerk I spoke with earlier put it somewhere without telling anyone else before leaving for the day. So it's in the store but they don't know where. Clerk again offers to find and hold it a day for me. I decline since I can't get there the next day. 1. If they had just held it for 3 hours I would not have wasted the better part of an hour. 2. Why didn't the first clerk put it back where it was supposed to be, knowing I planned be there in a few hours and knowing they were leaving before then? 3. Offering to hold it after the initial refusal was well intentioned but just added insult to injury at that point. read more

Recently I came in here to just simply buy a nintendo switch lite and the experience was overall okay except towards the end we were told about the pro week promotion. We kindly refused the offer despite the benefits that were explained to us, however one of the workers there were seriously pushing it more than they needed to. In the end, it felt like we were pressured into getting the deal because they escalated their tone and obviously did not want to take no for an answer. So I've been going to this store now and then when visiting the Southland Mall and I can see it improves. I finally broke down and got my XBOX One system and the cashier was very good at helping me choose the used system I needed. There was actually a promo that was running where you buy 2 and get one free so it worked out for me in the end with used games. I got exactly what I wanted and walked out a happy gamer. I did sign up for the Power Up Rewards Pro membership (I was Elite previously but they discontinued it) so the discount of 10% comes in handy. I sure miss the 20% Elite Pro members had but can't win them all. They did give me 15,000 points as promised after using a newly opened Gamestop Credit Card so that helped offset the price of the used system some....... It gets pretty busy here and they have lots of employees at this store to handle it, something that some stores may only have one or 2 people for a whole store. read more

The first impression was the worst impression. This store is rather large and the selection is good. There is a lot of traffic here and I was surprised that there were only 2 employees working in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. The checkout line was a verrrrrry long wait. Associates were friendly, but not very fast and there was no real urgency to get the line moving quickly. My son seen a pre-owned game that he wanted, and we went to pay for it. The price tag says $12.99, the associate rang me up at $13.49. ***(SEE ATTACHED PHOTO)*** Once I realized the incorrect charge, there was no way I was going to go back in the store and wait another "eternity" just for a little over a dollar. My point being is to pay close attention to the transaction, imagine how many other items are marked a lower price and this store over charges you. Chris the manager is a very knowledgeable young man and extremely helpful when it comes down to talking game play and details on any of the games. New popular games are no less than $55.00, some of preowned games can be in the $25 - $40.00 range. I don't bother bringing in my trades anymore they give way too little for them. You get a better deal going on Ebay reselling it then you would at gamestop. read more

The other customer making his purchase at the same time as me was very loud and obnoxious, demanding some money over some item he probably sat on and broke and being a general ass. He seemed to want to assert his dominance by yelling like a whale but before it escalated and I kicked his ass, the cashier helping me make my put was able to help his coworker. Frustrating experience last week at GameStop in Hayward.. I went to the Southland Mall GameStop and asked about the NYCC Funko Pops. The assistant manager (Thomas) said that he hasn't received their shipment yet and they should arrive in the next 30mins to an hour. Having being there at 10:30pm and didnt want to drive around, we decided to stay and wait for the shipment to arrive (UPS and Fedex were both outside unloading). Their shipment arrived 15 minutes later and spotted multiple Funko boxes. We went in and asked for thir shipment. The assistant manager continued to give me the run around and kept saying that its going to take him a while to get through the boxes. But as an employee of a retail establishment, isnt your first priority is to serve your customers and tend to their needs? Isnt it your first priority is your customers time? He kept on giving us the run arround and he opened one of the boxes and they were funko plush figures. After looking at him for a while I did recognize him having to work or be at a Comic Book Store.. I felt like he was keeping the figures all to himself.. Horrible!! Horrible!! Folks like these makes me want to get out of the Funko Pop Game.. Terrible! Stay away from Gamestop in Hayward. read more

My son has a PlayStation 4 and it had a problem with the HDMI port. We called the Southland Game Stop and in an effort to teach my son about how to trade in and do business; I had him converse on the phone with the representative Tim, who was very nice. He was on speaker so we heard the conversation. I had instructed my son to tell him the truth about the HDMI port and Tim quoted that the PS4 would have a value of $125. He also instructed him to come in that day to ensure we got that transaction fee. I got home from work and went before the store closed at 8:00 p.m. It was fairly busy, so we waited patiently as the first clerk became available, and we told him about the PS4 and the HDMI port. He said he had to defer to his manager, Chris. So again we waited. Chris called us over and began to hook up the PS4 to see if it was working. He then took on another customer and basically left us waiting again. That transaction took several minutes and now we were at 30 minutes at the store. Finally Chris turned around and told us $40 because it had the defective port. He said the price quoted over the phone was because we didn't inform anyone of the HDMI port problem! I said, no we were very specific about the port problem over the phone and felt that this was bait and switch with my child being the victim. Anyway, he said he could go $80 with the brand new controller and we walked. I feel, that the wait, the accusation that we didn't initially tell anyone about the port, the less than half quoted offer for the PS4, and the poor lesson in customer service deserves a 1 rating. read more

RAPE!!!! Took 45 minutes to buy my 32 g wii u in febuary for over 350.. probably coulda walked out with it, as the only person working was in the back helping the one other person in the store. (That person didn't wind up buying anything) tried to sell it back today with some extras. 2 video games, (I payed 30) one remote (40 at target) plus the console with all original parts. The gentlemen behind the counter had me wait 20 minutes while he checked it. It's cool I'm gonna get paid.. NOT!! They offered me 35 bucks for Everything. Told me that the Console would be resold for over 200 bucks. WTF?? UM NO. Wound up selling the remote and games for 13 bucks (which makes the console worth $22) to get gas for work. Wish I hadnt... took me 45 minutes to find a buyer on Craigslist (type wanted games in for sale search box) just sold the console for 200 cash.. had to drive 30 minutes but I didn't get pinned to the counter and forced to look Super Mario in the eye while Game Stop had their way with me read more

This store just sucks. The manager always looks unhappy or tired/dirty. None of them have a good attitude and are hella dry. I can only imagine working a full shift with this guy as my coworker. I was just dropping by to kill some time waiting for my car to be serviced. I wasn't really looking to buy anything in particular but of course I do see some older xbox 360 games I missed that I just HAD to get.. Anyway I ask a fellow(Alonzo I believe) at the counter a qustion about a game and he told me I may want to wait as an "Ultimate" edition of the same game is coming out in a couple of months featuring everything I'd ever want. I said great thanks for the info, I'll hold off then. He then said hey we may have a used copy of those games in my hand so he takes me back and finds TWO used titles to save me a few bucks .Also he mentioned the rewards card and how I'd save a few bucks on used games, earn points, free gaming mag subscription, etc. So I got that too! I appreciated the extra effort. Finally I had already preordered the XBOX ONE and got the preorder for COD Ghosts, but he sadi if I get the regular 360 version I can transfer the achievements to the Xbox One later, plus if I trade in the 360 version I get $50 towards the Xbox One edition.(so basically $15 more) I said I didn't know that! That's great, I'll get the 360 version first and then later trade it in for the Xbox One version after. DING DING SOLD. LOL I may have fell hook line and sinker but I didn't feel bad as he took his time to let me know. I don't shop at the local stores as much now, but I may reconsider that! The customer service is good here, the people that work there are nice and friendly, and they are knowledgeable if your someone who is unsure about a particular gaming title. They have gone out of their way to check their inevtory and other stores inventory when I was looking for a particular title that they didn't have in stock. I could go without the "would you like to preorder this soon to be out game?" question when at the register. But I can't blame the employees on that I'm sure they have to that as part of their job. The store can get bit messy and have a long line at the register which is an understatement especially on weekends. And the place can get overrun by snotty diaper crying kids playing games and their parents for leaving them there as if its a quick and free baby sitting service :/ I only minus one star not on the previously mentioned paragraph but namely the corporate megalith of Gamestop itself. I think their buy back pricing on previously used games is pretty much a rip off, I think if your wanting to sell some old video games/systems that are collecting dust it's better to try your luck on selling it on craigslist or ebay and get more money for it. read more

I bought a minecraft lampshade last 2/28/22, 1 open display and 1 on the box. I grab the 1 in the box, when I got home, my son got excited to open it and ripped the top portion of the box and surprisingly, it is a different lampshade. Checked on website and there's 2 different one(honeycomb and glowstone). Called store and spoke to a lady and saying that the lampshade is not the one that is being displayed got confused because the one on the box it shows bee too and I want the one with hanging bee(honeycomb), but the problem is the top box of the lampshade is ripped but can be tape, so the lady said yes I can exchange it with no problem. 3/8/22 went to the store and encountered Arnold the store leader who is mean, rude and saying "how can I sell this if the box is ripped?", I explained to him that the lampshade is new and it's only bought last week, got confused with the display and the one on the box, also told him that I spoke to a lady and told her that the top of the box is ripped and just want to exchange it with the display one and she said no problem. Arnold continue to argue with the condition of the box, that he cannot sell it, he will just return to manufacturer, that next time he will not accept it, he can offer only today as a final sale, repeatedly 5x final sale, as if he is talking to a kid. Literally the lampshade is new, only 8days old with receipt, the only problem is the top of the box is ripped but was able to tape it and closes. He did the exchange repeatedly saying this is a final sale, no return no exchange and I told him, if you want check my record I never returned any from GameStop and inform him that I even called regarding the situation of the box before returning it. I was so pissed off the way he treated me in the store as if I brake the lampshade and return it. Here come the honeycomb lampshade that he exchange, no box, no light bulb included. I asked for the lightbulb and he insisted it doesn't come with lightbulb, I showed him the one on website specification that it comes with the bulb and he insisted and said no it doesn't come with bulb, so nothing I can do but to exchange incomplete item with the same price, no box and no bulb. What a lazy, rude, mean Arnold. I should have just return the lampshade and got my money rather than buying an incomplete lampshade with same price but I did not do that just in consideration of the box that is ripped on the top, knowing that they can sell the lampshade without box. Yes, I am so angry with Arnold that I have to call corporate and report his attitude. He could have just said simply that he cannot accept it because of damage box, I could have return it to other store and have a good costumer service. So I am giving a 1 star for this GameStop store because of ARNOLD, not because of the merchandise but it's because of ARNOLD's attitude. ARNOLD, the store leader is MEAN, RUDE and LAZY with very bad customer service. If only there's only no star, I will not give any star at all as a rating. read more

Since Gamestop moved from their old location to a larger store inside the mall, the place has really taken a turn for the worst. The lines are ridiculously long, it seems like all of the former employees have moved on something else as service here is all about sales and numbers. No wonder the line is so long, you ask everyone if they want to subscribe to your magazine and rewards card. Gamestop has come a long way from being about the customer to pushing sales. I dont blame the employees too much though, I can only assume its from a manager who will probably hand down some reprimands if they dont have good numbers. And what happened to all the promos? Before, you use to get a nice plush toy, a bonus dvd or collectors item if you preorder a game. Now they push for preorders, and what do you get? Nothing. You're expecting customers to put down $60 on a game that hasnt even come out yet and dont even offer a promo. This isnt just against this store but all Gamestops in general. I use to preorder all my games here, and I got rewarded with a free figure or something at least. Now I just buy it elsewhere since there's no difference, and I dont want to bother with the line. I still get used games here from time to time, thats the only pro I can say about this chain. read more

People in the store are bunch liars especially the assistant store leader Chris and the store lead Arnold. My son and I were trying to buy some collectible items, I first spoke with Chris on the phone he said they have the hot wheels gamestop exclusives in the back but they don't know how to go about selling them yet and he needs to get a confirmation from his manager who is I think Arnold. Cases of hot wheels came with instructions from the corporate on how they would do it And I don't get it why they don't want to sell them especially the event was already over All other game stop store are sold out of the cars and they are the only ones who have no clue on how to run the event. As a customer we are just trying to buy some of those cars but these guys don't want to sell them for whatever reason they would rather not make sales which is really bad for GameStop business I wouldn't be surprise one day game stop close or go bankrupt because of these kind of employees. Manager lied to me when me and my son stopped by Sunday he said they don't have the hot wheels and then I told him I spoke with Chris and he confirmed they have the hot wheels in the back then that's when he admitted yes we have them but I cannot sell them to you what kind of store is this doesn't want to sell product that they have in stock when their corporate said they should be put on the sales floor 11/02 and it was already 11/03 when me and my son stopped by. I told him about the instructions that's when he allowed us to buy some of the hot wheels but then he limited us to buy items which is fine. I had other stores check stores around the area will have more of those and this store came up with 99+ hot wheels but the manager claims he only has 36. I spoke with the corporate office and they confirmed the store received three cases of the hot wheels. Something is really fishy with this storeEither they're dumb or they're reserving this item support them selves. Also both assistant lead & store lead have very poor customer service cant even look me in the eye when I was talking to them. I honestly don't know how they became leads.... So it was last year 3 days before New Years and the place was packed of people returning Christmas presents and kids were runing around and they were throwing games around.
