As a very longtime fan of Games Workshop and the Warhammer games dating back to when I lived in England during college, I really wanted to write a glowing review of the Tustin GW store and to encourage new gamers to rely on it to pursue their love of the hobby. In fact, I've been going to this GW shop since the days when it was located in Orange at a mall that doesn't even exist anymore. Unfortunately, there are several much better ways to get your Warhammer fix. The primary problems with this location (as with so many of the GW retail shops), include the following, 1. Models and modeling supplies are always sold at full price and are never offered at a discount or on sale. 2. The sales 'staff' usually is limited to one guy (almost always Caucasian and middle aged) who is overtrained and so annoyingly in your face that you often regret stopping by. 3. The shop is tiny. 4. The hours are erratic and largely subject to the whims of the single employee. If he is sick or waiting for the Best Buy Geek Squad, then he will be late or not show up at all. 5. The cost of entering the hobby is prohibitive for anyone without significant disposable income and makes it virtually impossible for kids to play. Sad? Yep. Disappointing? Absolutely. Frustrating? Got into Warhammer a year or two ago and started swinging by this shop more regularly for supplies/mini of the month. The Manager (Drew) is super chill and friendly. No awkward hovering, no pressure to be upsold/make a purchase, just an overall laidback friendly vibe every time. The clientele that frequent this shop are also cool, when in earshot, they like offer insight/tips to newcomers to the hobby if they're hip to your questions. Best part? Came in on a whim and really enjoyed myself. Its a small store, but has a really nice selection. There's all sorts of Warhammer stuff to choose from. Everyone was very nice and quick to give recommendations even about other businesses that had a different selection of items, or ones they liked to shop at. I used to play D&D years ago and still occasionally. So, it was nice to speak nerd to someone else. He was really cool with my daughter and even gave us each a little character. Absolutely fantastic. I'm a returning player, and haven't picked up the game in roughly 4 years. The staff, 'Drew' ran me through loads of tutorials, and offered very helpful information that not only makes me rethink army designs, but also gets me exciting for picking up this hobby again. The location is in a small shopping center, and the store is well organized while also having some cool decorations. Parking is not a problem either. The store and staff is the perfect place to also recommend friends who may have not been too familiar with Warhammer as well. I played a round with a friend at home, and soon enough, he visited the store and 'Drew' got him really excited to play the game with me! A bit difficult to find because they are located in a mega mini mall. Watch the hours of operation. They run interesting open times. And a convenient el pollo loco nearby. I've never had such a positive and helpful customer service experience. Drew (the store manager) is the coolest store manager ever! Long ago, i initially was skeptical on playing board game since video game seem more fun buy after a few interaction with Drew, I became really interested. To say that I was late in the game of miniatures and Warhammer is an understatement. When I walked in for the first time in July of 2022, I did not know what to expect. I only came in to see if there were any models for me to build so I can take up some idle time during the summer. The store manager, Patrick is a very welcoming host. He answered all my questions, and drowned me with all the lore he can share. Definitely a great place to be when you just want to hang out with the boys. It's sort of like a bar... you spend about as much, but not on alcohol. You get to play with sharp tools, but you don't hurt anyone, and you get to talk smack with the other home skillets, while you're rolling the dice. read more

Super duper nice manager. Extremely helpful, you ask him 1 question and he gives you 9 answers. He will sacrifice his lunch hour just to answer all your questions. You can tell the man enjoys his job. Always cool (great place for hot summer) and nice with Lords of the Ring background music, Drew must be a big Lords of the Ring fan. That said..... Unfortunately the room is EXTREMELY SMALL. Like ultra small, like 6 feet width as shown in provide picture. Meaning if there is a big fat guy stand there playing, you won't be able to walk pass him. This place could use some extra space for another table or so, or at least some breathing spaces... Also the weekend hours suck, yup as you can see they close very early on weekend and open later on normal day, meaning close early on game night and open longer on days with no customer. (each store has diff hours though, the other GW store open till 8 pm) But here, why close early on weekend, that's game night for these typical games, I mean common, even hobby stores close late those days. read more

This is the go to GW in SoCal. There are no gamers in the area that don't know the "Almighty Drew." I started off in the rp circuit via dragonlance and rifts, but got turned onto wh40k when 8th edition came out and my friends started playing. I came out here to play a couple of games to learn, and Drew and his crew took the time to teach me and give suggestions on how to play better. I'm back. There's been a changing of the guard at this store, Juan who previously ran this games workshop left, but never fear the new store manager is a great guy. I haven't been into the store like I used to frequent due to personal issues. But, recently, a few times I've had to step into the store to purchase glue, and return a fumbled order from Memphis. To me, every GW store is about the person behind the counter. And all I can say is the new manager is great! I'd like to get to know him and have a demo game of 40k soon, as soon as I have enough models painted. The store hasn't changed too much in aesthetic value, everything is still where it is except a few tables. I'm thankful to have a GW store near me. Best Games Workshop I come here often to build my armies, lighting in the store location is perfect for me. Lots of people there to help you out and both Drew and Daryl are really amazing at the hobby and always willing to help and give tips or ideas. I have to stress that I live only minutes from this shop, which makes it ideal for deciding off the bat to start a quick game; and even better for direct ordering an item, which makes it superb for picking up items I've ordered. Since it's only a few minutes away, I was pleasantly surprised to run into others I knew from the LA Bunker, making the local GW here in Tustin a better experience.Ever since Drew, the current operator of the Larwin store, got there, he's treated my brother and I (as well as customers, regulars, and strangers) with respect and a general cool demeanor. I find many Games Workshops make the mistake of treating customers only like customers, but not here! Drew knows that we're veterans of the game(s), and doesn't try to up-sell anything we aren't looking for, or interested in. When we're looking to hang out there/play, he's happy to have us chill, chat, and play. If we're just popping in for a quick paint pot or something, there's no stress on worrying about what to buy. He's good at offering advice and suggestions that suit your needs, rather than what previous managers would have done. Example: previously I'd hear "You want a Predator tank? Well, why not buy a Land Raider and two squads of Terminators?" - but now with Drew in charge, you'd expect something like this "Oh, you want a pack of Raptors? If you think it'll fit your army right, that's cool. Thought much about Warp Talons?" In short, the new management considers you as a player and person, rather than as just a customer. WOW THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE ANYWHERE! We brought our boys to the Games Workshop to look around and they fell in love with the games and the shop. The manager Drew made them feel like they were so welcome. He went above and beyond with customer service, letting them paint a free game piece, teaching them about the games and how to play. My boys can't wait to go "hang out" there because they feel like it's a home away from home.
