Took a drive from Irvine, CA to check out this store. I was amazed to see how much & specific unique items they had here. It was exciting to see other hobbyists than just tcg collectors. But I'd have to admit I've never seen such poor service in my life. When it comes to being around other hobbyists. I waiting in line to be helped while the girl behind the register finished helping her current customer. She seemed very polite & helpful. But that became very obvious that it was because she was flirtatious with the clients. When I proceeded to then ask a question if they had TCG Cards (Pokemon or One Piece). She did answer that they had sold out, but then proceeded to just act like I didn't exist. Not sure, why I would need to have to be flirty just to buy an item they have behind the register. I genuinely just wanted to look at the One Piece Deck set that was behind the worker with the Comb Over. Who also proceeded to act like I didn't exist. Not my fault they're physically attractive to be my type to flirt my way into a sale. Definitely wack employees today. Anyways, definitely check out the BULGOGI KBBQ! The server barely spoke English & their service was WAY MORE EXCEPTIONAL! Great Food! read more

This place is so hit and miss with their customer service. Im so tired of model shop guys who think they are above speaking to you in any other way than how much you owe after ringing you. I had a bad experience yesterday when I asked some questions and engaged in friendly banter, but I believe they have some racism and ageism issues. They constantly advertise that they buy collections but I waited for a quote for 3 months before I called and got the rudest "we'll call you when we're ready" I've ever gotten. We love supporting small local businesses, so we frequent this store. Pros: -Gaming area next to store front for people who want to play things like Warhammer and need a spot -Has some good deals sometimes. Great place to pick up small items and save by not paying shipping or consignment items like opened partially build armies someone changed their minds on. -Bring your kid on Father's Day for a discount, dads. I always stop by Brookhurst Hobbies whenever I'm in the area. Sometimes they got stuff I can't find down in San Diego. It's one of those spots where you walk in just to look and end up leaving with a random stuff you didn't know you needed. The workers here are super chill and always down to chat about whatever hobby you're into. It's cool when the staff actually know the stuff and aren't just trying to sell you random things. They've got a solid paint selection, plus a bunch of model kits, tabletop games, and other hobby stuff. Definitely worth checking out if you're nearby or passing through. This place is truly a gem. I'm a hobbiest of all sorts, through and through. Gundams, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer, and TCGs of all kinds. I must say that this store hits a bunch of check marks for me. The staff: A1. The staff are extremely helpful, and knowledgeable about their wares. I came in to ask about Pokemon product for my nephew and the nice staff member behind the counter helped me out tremendously. I've been out of the Pokemon TCG game since I was a kid but not going to lie, this friendly and informative experience really got me back into it. The products: I was stationed in Japan for a couple years and I must say this place has a rather impressive range of stock for Gundams which is awesome. I also loved building Naval ships (can you tell which branch I was in?) and I am heavily impressed with this selection as well. Do you like to build planes, or even military dioramas? Cars? Play Warhammer? They've got it for you. Not only that; an extensive library of supplies such as paints, brushes, etc. As well as prepainted figurines. They also have DnD books as well as other RPG based books as well. Their TCG stock is alright; they do offer fair prices. Recently, there was a particular release and they didn't price gouge like other local shops did so I truly do appreciate that. Although I hope their distributor helps them out in this regard for future releases. The aisles are filled with product and there's a steady flow of patrons ranging all ages. There's also a space next door for people who want to build together, or run a campaign of their favorite RPG. My buddy and I have stayed til late in the evening having laughs and enjoying ourselves. Interaction with patrons is great as you can go on their social media platforms and they have notes and updates on stock which is awesome. Service here is either a hit or a miss. Sometimes you get a helpful and friendly staff, other times you don't. Unfortunately the latter happened more than the former. Prices on most Bandai kits are 10% higher than the competitors. Not a lot of sales going on, if there is, very little saving. I shopped here many times in hope their services improved but unfortunately nothing change. The only merits to shop at this place are they have a lot of varieties and it's closer to my house than other shops. However; I went home feeling bad about my purchases too many times for me to give them another chance or recommend them to others. They don't even give cash refund to you, only store credit. I needed the game Warewolf for a last minute group gathering. Didn't have time to order online so Google led me here. I was greeted by Sam the minute I walked in. And when I asked for help he answered all my questions and gave me great suggestions. I did a quick walkthrough after I got my game and this place is super cool. This hobby store is quite big in size. When I went in, it was a bit in disarray and it seemed like they just got a full container of gunpla imported into the store. They had gunplas everywhere. They do have a good selection of things. On one side of the store has collections of military figures, books etc. The other side has automobile models, plane models, Marvel action figures, War Hammer figurines, etc. They had one section dedicated for Bandai gunplas along with other Japanese and Chinese brands of model figures too. I got what I was looking for where and I was pretty pleased. I would return again to complete my collections of HGUC and Borderline Warriors. It's a 4.4 out 5 here for sure. read more

I stopped by here for during my gunpla shop in anaheim run. Store itself is massive but parking was pretty difficult even when located inside a plaza. Their selection of gunpla is extremely limited, although that may be because of the current gunpla shortage. Even then, there was wasn't that much variety among their inventory. The main reason I am giving this place 4 stars is their massive inventory of paints, decals, tools, and extra/external parts. They carry all kinds of paints including citadel, testors, tamiya, modo, etc. all kinds of modeling tools were also available. read more

This place has some of the best customer service I've encountered. I have embarrassing broken several of my model toys. As a result, I have come here to find ways to fix my toy. Everyone here has a wealth of knowledge, and was able to provide alternative means to repairing my things. They also have extensive knowledge about what works and alternative ways to trouble shoot repairing my toys. I know they have a game room next door. But I wish they have (or clearly inform us) on going dungeons and dragon and other game nights where gameplay is hosted. So anyone looking to play can find a game. read more

Poor customer service. When I went into the store to buy my first miniature set the two attendees were eating their meals at the register and didn't offer to help. When it came to check out, with burger still in hand, they grabbed my card with their hands rung me out and continued to have a sidebar conversation with their other coworker. I'm confused about what happened to this place! Before the pandemic, they used to have any of almost all paints in stock. I understand shortages during and shortly after the pandemic, but now it's over, as is the shortages, yet they still never have a lot of the basics in stock. I like the Vallejo Model Air paints, and there's never any basic colors and metal colors like aluminum, steel, chrome. I also like the Humbrol enamels (basic colors) like black/white/grays and are always out of stock. Same with Alclad Lacquers. Need enamel thinners....won't be in stock. Need acrylic thinners.....won't be in stock. I like supporting small biz, but I'm forced to have to go to Amazon. I'm even Ok with the slightly higher in store prices if it means saving jobs, but when there's never anything in stock, you leave some no choice! Please fix this so I can once again enjoy shopping for my favorite paints in store instead of online. My last 4 visits have all been met with disappointment. read more

Brookhurst Hobbies had been an integral part of my gaming life from the time I started working in Cypress and Seal Beach until the time that I left that job. Every so often, I would stop at the store on the way home (or make a lunchtime trip) to buy card sleeves, X-Wing ships, or the odd game or expansion. Despite the store being a "hobby" store with various kinds of merchandise, the three aisles that Brookhurst Hobbies commits to tabletop games and RPGs boast one of the finest selections of games in Southern California (if not anywhere). Furthermore, one time, they hosted a father-and-child X-Wing tournament (at my request!) that went really well. They even stayed open late to give prizes and allow us to shop. Based on nostalgia value alone, I rate Brookhurst Hobbies highly. Aside from nostalgia, as I said before, Brookhurst Hobbies has a superlative selection of games and card sleeves. In fact, if I really need card sleeves, I either go here or Dice House Games in Fullerton. Another plus to this store is they have full-time staff that are experts in models, painting, games, and remote-control items. I have special shout-outs to Brian and Tim... They have been really helpful in the past and it's nice to see them whenever I find myself in Garden Grove. In all, I cannot recommend Brookhurst Hobbies enough for the service and selection. He was looking to buy Tamiya paints for his Gundam model. We waited near the display case for about 10 min before someone passed by to acknowledge us. I have mixed feelings about this shop. I have been coming here for years and know pretty much where everything is and who to ask for help. If I was a casual shopper coming in for the first time, the dust covered shelves, boxes strewn everywhere, and poor customer service would be an immediate turn off; rarely is anyone greeted or asked if they need help. Some of the newer employees are very friendly but some of the older ones will not lift a finger to help or make an attempt to interact with customers. To the owner: Clean the place up and dust a bit, also have a serious discussion/training with you employees on basic customer service. read more

Mr. B, retired, has waaaaaaay too much time on his hands. Fortunately for me, he has decided to relive his boyhood obsession for building models (tanks, ships and airplanes), thus staying out of my hair for long periods of time. Need I say, "Happy wife, happy life?" But, he has also discovered the advantages of using his wife's Yelp account to bookmark his own must-see places (why he still refuses to have his own account is something I cannot understand, but that is another story). So, while driving through Garden Grove on a bookmarked foodie adventure, this hobby shop bookmark innocently popped up. Sneeeee-keey! Easily overlooked for its tired 1960's strip mall location, BH hardly has any in-your-face kind of draw, except for another hobbyist. But once inside, this modestly sized store would certainly elicit a drool response from kid and kid at heart. Rows of shelves, stocked floor to ceiling with gaming equipment and plastic models. Glass counters filled with tools, paints, parts and stuff I have no clue what the heck it's for. Racks filled with magazines and reference books. Even the few military mini dioramas complete with authentic dust and rust (pseudo doll houses, but for old guys) are fascinating. And you will also find a lot more kids-at-heart, old dudes who seem to have the same obsession as Mr. B. I wonder if their wives need to go to weekly meetings like AA to deal with this? This...is...my...porn!!! I first came here about 12 years ago and bought the Tamiya 1/350th scale model of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). I had been an experienced aircraft model builder up until this point and I was ready to venture out into building other kits. I felt that this would be a very good test. I bought countless reference books on different aircraft that I was going to put on it (F-14, F/A-18, A-6, S-3, SH-60, and SH-3). I had a photoetched metal kit for this model. I had thousands of hours put into it... ...and one of my little miserable furball cats goes and destroys it by using it as a catapult for jumping into the garage rafters. 12 years of work undone in a few seconds. When we move to our new house, I will buy another Enterprise kit, but until then, I will be buying and building submarine kits. My purchases include a 1:350th scale Russian Typhoon class submarine and a 1:144th scale Seawolf class submarine (It's a big kit!!!). I bought that one as a used kit. Previously owned, but the kit is complete. I also want to build the IJN Carrier Akagi kit from Tamiya. the detail on this kit is incredible!!! I like that this store has a lot of ship and tank models on display for reference. There aren't too many aircraft on display since the bigger kits take up a lot of space. My next venture will be WW2 tanks- specifically the German Tiger Tanks. I think the diorama kits that I saw on display were from King and Country. I can't remember, but the detail on these kits were unbelievable!!! This store also has tons of reference books, board games, RPGs and they also hold RPG tournaments on the weekends.
