After going to the tow yard, My son and I decided to check this place out. Needed a few cards from his Surging Sparks collection. We found a few cards that we weren't planning to get and thank goodness they have it for a decent cost. At first I couldn't find the place since it's tucked in a corner and you'll miss it if not paying attention. We found the place and parked in the back. It's next to other small businesses. Saw this store by a lucky accident. Did not know it was here I. A two story shopping center on Katella. Great for Magic the gathering players. This place is awesome. They have a large selection of MTG cards that a lot of LGS around my area don't have. I like how they have an order online/pickup option which is what I prefer. The staff is friendly and helpful and orders are done and filled pretty quick. The store is clean and organized. I did my first pre release event with them and had a blast. I have other LGS closer to me but I prefer driving out the extra several miles and supporting this company instead. I've never had any order issues with them. Signed up for a gundam deck release event and the store jacked up the price of the starter deck from the msrp of $16 to $70 dollars and still charged $10 to get into the event. This is such a predatory practice and price gouging the community. I came here for a pre-release event and for the event we were supposed to have prizing. The pre-release kits from the TCG company included 2 booster boxes. These guys kept the two boxes and didn't hand out any prizing for the event. They ended up selling the boosters from the event for 200% markup. Avoid TCG places like this, they are a cancer to the community. read more

I registered for the Gundam ST05 deck release event, only to find out the store had marked up the starter deck from the MSRP of $16 to an insane $70 on top of still having to pay the $10 event entry fee. So that's $80 to play in the event! This kind of pricing is blatantly price gouging, scalper mentality and insulting to the community of local TCG players. OTHER STORES are hosting similar events for a much more REASONABLE $20-$30, which includes BOTH ENTRY AND THE DECK! First time customer and new Lorcana player. Was excited to hear that they game Every Monday & Wednesday nights at 7pm. They also host other TCG events. Place was kind of hidden in the back of a suite unit. Apparently you just go in if it's open. Staff and service was friendly and accommodating. Wished they'd give entry packs for tournaments. But at least we get a promo card. Other than that, they have a wide selection of TCGs to collect & play with. read more

I have been going to Spellhold games for 4 years since collector legion bought it. I did events 5 days a week bought all my cards there did all my prereleases there even though they are a little bit more expensive than some other places I could go. I always promoted and talked highly of the store. I was recently banned for supposedly harassing ppl when I just have adhd and anxiety which I manage through meds I just enjoy talking to and meeting new ppl and maintaining friendships amongst the community of which I am well liked and was told so I have a vocal tick which I have since got under control through going to doctors and finally finding the right meds to control it. So it hasn't been a problem for 3 years the doctors had me on psych meds when I needed treatment for Tourettes syndrome and finally switched to a doctor that understood my condition. I have been singled out by the management and have been picked on for years when I explained my condition to them immediately. If talking to ppl about magic decks, tournaments and cards is considered harassing ppl well you could have fooled me I called the owner to try to resolve this issue and get unbanned. He was in the store one day and I was making small talk with him while he finished up some business on the computer. Finally one of the other employees said to him this guy has been waiting 10 minutes for you to fill his order which he finally filled and when I spoke with him on the phone about the situation he said the first I met you that I harassed him since when is small talk harassing someone. I was seriously mistreated and was called a liar when I have always been straightforward with the staff. What ever happened to the customer is always right? I spend lots of money there just like everyone else, but because of my social awkwardness and my medical condition I have been considered "bad for the community" I have going to Spellhold since they were on Chapman and were independently owned. Even after the ban I still continue to promote the store even though I shouldn't but it is such a great community I still Send them business. Rob, Todd and Adam the owner are more concerned with the profitability of the store than have compassion for their disabled customer base. It just makes me sad that someone disabled would be treated differently than anyone else. Nuff said. I will no longer promote this store and recommend you don't go. Who knows you could be the next one singled out for making small talk (harassing) people. read more

My preferred store to be honest. They offer good prices on selling cards, and selling is usually slightly less than market. There is one issue...place can smell. It's not the stores fault, it's the clientele. Lol we all know some tcg players can have issues. But God damn yo. Staff is great! Inventory good. Nice place. Just wear a mask lol. read more

Came with some friends to just play our own board games. There's a dozen or more long tables (you know the one) and standard chairs. Parking in the back and off street. Staff was nice. There was a MTG thing going on so everyone sorta in their own world. It's a bare bones shop focused on MTG and supplies but nice to know spaces like this exist. This is my go-to location for Magic. Great store, friendly yet competitive atmosphere. Weekly events are 4 rounds with 120% store credit payout, and the weekend events are so well run that they just about hit capacity! I really enjoy the fact that hey stream the events too. I am still new to Magic, but I played my first two draft events ever here. The staff and players were kind in teaching me some of the ropes to paper draft. Prices are fair from what I saw at other stores. I have since done drafts at other stores and there really isn't much a difference, besides Spellhold sometimes having a difficult to read schedule. I would prefer they use weekly/monthly calendar as I have seen some other card stores do. read more

This place is AWESOME, the people there were really cool about telling me about the meta of standard format, and even gave me a little analysis on the deck i wanted to build since i was just so new to magic i had very little understanding. The employees are great, the location and layout are incredible, and the other customers there didn't feel like customers at all , more like friends I never met. Pretty happy after coming here though I wish I had come before going to SoCalMagic.. See Socalmagic if you want a piece of my mind concerning them...
