Stopped in looking for some heat relief during the Asian on Main festival and left a fan! The store hosts a variety of board games for both children and adults, kawaii gifts, cards (the Pokemon card section absolutely captivated my daughters), and more! An entire half of the restaurant was sectioned off for gaming and I saw a bunch of people sitting down and having fun. Their proximity to GMU makes this a great place to build local community. Snacks are available (thanks for the $1 water!!!) and they have clean bathrooms. Everyone was super friendly and now I have a whole list of new games I want to purchase. read more

This is not the most convenient store to me, but I'll keep coming as they are one of the few gaming shops that hasn't become a scalper. Many others in the area will buy card games from the manufacturer then sell at inflated prices to squeeze all value out of a set. Pair o Dice doesn't do this and it's quite admirable. For example, earlier today, I went to two closer stores and was told a box of Avatar MTG cards was over $210 ($174 on Amazon) then I went to Pair o' Dice and bought it at $180. I'll gladly support a local gaming shop that supports their customers and doesn't see us as sponges to squeeze. Good job, Pair o Dice. I will be back. read more

Cool meetup spot, but all the products I looked at were at around 5-10 dollars more than what you'd find at most stores (and/or market price for single cards), and I was only looking at the cheaper items. Additionally, the lady behind the counter was extremely unfriendly and a bit rude. read more

I used to frequent this place quite a bit until they started pricing their sealed card game product at scalper prices. I was able to forgive the poorly kept bathroom, the often poor service, and the uncomfortable chairs until the value became abysmal. I wish I could recommend this place, but you have far better options in northern VA. read more

Thank goodness covid appears to be waning. Will have to see if game night has returned. I'd like to thank the owner, as my son and I have played Cataan, and other board games on these nights. When I walked in, I'll admit "fish out of water." Yet the staff and folks who frequent this, made me feel right at home. Instantly I was learning how to use dice I never had, and new games to discover. Some of them are quite fun, with a lot of strategy involved. Also I think it's good, to have a place for mostly younger people to do something good. This store is awesome. They have some retro toys too, and yes have bought a couple. Also they have recent comics and older ones. A lot of smiles on my bald head with grey hair. Many of the ones I grew up with, are going on strong, and of course have mind blowing graphics. Love this shop. First started: coming because my kid was into MTG and DnD. Now I'm there 2 t9 3 times a week to play Lorcana. We have a great low key community that welcomes new players that never played a TCG. They are about to have a 2nd 2k tournament for people that are more competitive players. They also have a great selection of games, comics, dice , boxes and sleeves for your cards. Plus singles. Game room is usually busy with all types of groups.. board games, card cards (Lorcana , MTG , pokemon) and DnD groups. Staff is awesome, very sweet and helpful. Greets you by name if you come in often. They have always answered my questions and helped me figure anything out I need help with. read more

Planning a recent event in the DC area, I had the most trouble finding a location to play board games. Thankfully through extensive searching I found Fairfax Comics & Gaming. Located in the center of historic Fairfax, the store is in a pretty brick building and easy to locate. Parking is free and easy to access with a ramp to the left of the entrance. It is in a small retail area with a few other stores and easy walking from food, convenience stores, and other stores. Thank you so much for having our group come and spend the day playing games! The gaming room is free to use during any times a planned event (like Magic) is going on. The room is very large with upwards of 20 tables and plenty of space to walk around. The lighting is bright, perfect for seeing games. It smelled nice and was very clean. A restroom is also available for customers, and was also very clean and kept nice throughout our day day. The store plans many events, take a look at their website for the calendar. The game room also has a shelf of demo games, which are all excellent choices. The main part of the store contains the comics and gaming inventory for sale. Sodas and some snacks are also available for purchase. Single Magic cards take up the most real estate in the case, with new comics and collectibles near the door. Be sure to peruse their clearance sections. The selection of comics and gaming made it easy for our group to buy some comics, toys, and snacks during our day. Thank you all again for making our day the best it could have been! read more

This store simply does not have good customer service. The employees "listen" to the community but don't offer solutions to resolve their issues. What's worse is that the employees usually have a snarky and "better than thou" attitude and would rather play magic in the back than help out a customer at the register. read more

I placed an order towards the beginning of last year and only one of them has yet to show up. I never received a phone call that the order came in. I had to show up to see if it was there. The date is 1/26/19 and I just found out the last full issue was printed in 2001. Not impossible to acquire, but it makes it more in interest. My problem is I was never contacted about not being able to getting it. Because of this, the store loses on star. Talk to another staff member and he placed another order, but told me the distributor might be able to acquire it, but the chance is small. What are the chances of actually being called if the item comes in or not is my question. We will see.. read more

I asked her if they had a card, ONE CARD, on hand, and she got angry and snapped at me that I had to go on their website, find their TCG Player store, hunt the card down through the site, add it to my cart, wait for the order to go through, and then have her pick it rather than her simply turning around and looking in the box behind her. I am in the store to GIVE YOU MONEY. Your job is not hard. I have done it in four different stores for three different companies. If you're in a foul mood, FAKE IT. This is retail. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they have a great selection of comics, games, cards, figurines, and more in a well-lit and easy-to-navigate shop. It's the kind of place where you feel like a regular even though you're not, which is such a nice change from my experiences in a lot of other shops. They also seem really keen on building a local community and hosting a wide variety of activities. There are only so many good comic shops in the Northern VA area. I was spoiled by my former shop, 4 Color Fantasies, when I lived in Winchester: I would say the staff here is friendly, but the behind the scenes service has definitely gone downhill for comic subscribers. I only get about 75-80% of my order right. I can't remember the last time that I DIDNT have to buy an issue on my own because my subscription people forgot to put it aside, order it, or maybe they put it in the wrong box. It's frustrating because I want to support a local business, but when the best in the area is only subpar, I'm thinking about going all online again. They also no longer provide bags and boards anymore. Something that is usually standard at most comic shop. read more

This business has very friendly staff, a cool and clean environment, snacks, good lighting, room to move around, and a fairly good selection of board games. They have areas to play games, and even bring in your own to play. You can buy war hammer miniatures, CCG (MTG), and Euro Games. They have plenty of parking in the back, and public parking next door. The one problem I have is with predatory pricing on board games. I believe in supporting friendly local game stores (FLGS) without fretting over paying MSRP when online retailers undercut by 20 - 40%. I feel it is a bit rude if I look up prices online while I am at a store that is more personal with its customers. I have no problem paying a little extra if a game is out of print, or hard to find. My problem is that multiple times I've come home to find that I've been overcharged up to 68% over the MSRP on a game that I could get anywhere. I specially choose to go to and support friendly local gaming stores. For example, the retail price for Legendary is $59.99. When I went to go buy the game, it was marked as $68, but rang up as $78. They met halfway with the difference, and it wasn't until I got home that I found the MSRP was far less than their original sticker price. This is not the first game that I purchased from them where it was overpriced. These are not rare games that are out of print and therefore should have no excuse to overcharge. Another game was dice masters starter set rang up as $25. My buddy and I were told that the game was in high demand, out of print until dice machines could make more custom dice, and each player needed their own starter set to play. We went to two other local game stores in the area where they both had the game in stock selling for the retail price of $15. And we also found out that one starter set was good enough for two players. The staff was friendly when we returned the game and admitted that it was marked up so that only people who were serious about playing would buy the game instead of reselling them on eBay. As I am an event organizer for a couple meetup groups with board games, I am often warning people to stay away, or look up prices on the internet before they buy games here. I hear stories from some members with the same experiences. There should be no reason that they treat their customers like this. The management would not work with me with being overcharged on Legendary, or even taking it back since it was an opened game when it was purchased. I have not returned to this establishment, or their other business in a local mall as I feel mistreated and insulted with petty excuses for overcharging its patrons. I constantly make every effort I can to recommend people to avoid visiting this store. read more

I've been here a couple of times and I'm getting a good feel for the place. Each time the place screams, "Welcome, it's okay to whip out your deck!" And whip 'em out I did, several times. No one will judge you or question you so long as you're just as accepting and open to everyone's gaming preferences. There are lots of tables to play games on or even watch a show there with a club. The owners are very nice and anyone will fit right in. You can jump from table to table and join in. There are also several communal games you can use if you didn't bring yours. They sell everything. Comics, CCG, board games, miniatures, singles, snacks, drinks, etc. This is definitely the place to hit up if you're looking to indulge in your hobbies. The owners are very knowledgeable and they will help with whatever questions you have. No matter how obscure you may think it is, they'll find the right answer/item. The prices are reasonable, the space is large, and loads of fun when the decks comes out. Just make sure to clean up if you make a mess before you leave. read more

I've had nothing but a fantastic experience at this place. We swung by to pick up some packs for a home Magic draft, and were met with a really large, clean, easy to maneuver store. There's an enormous amount of free parking nearby, which isn't something you expect to find in downtown Fairfax City, and the staff was super friendly. And, they have a 3-for-$10 everyday deal on booster packs, which was a great deal. We also did a drafting event for Friday Night Magic, and we had a great time. The staff was super nice, and was able to very successfully run a couple of events at the same time (there was also a constructed tournament happening that evening). I can't recommend this place highly enough, and I look forward to going back for more draft/sealed events in the future! read more

This review encapsulates Comics and Gaming's various stores -- Fairfax, Fair Oaks and Gainesville stores. My wife and I recently discovered Comics and Gaming, and... well, wow. Only way to put it. Friendly staff, spacious stores with ridiculous amounts of variety and geekish gems that covers every gamut from tabletop, miniatures, comics, CCGs, RPGs and collectibles. Each store is unique in their offering. Fairfax's specialty is gaming, minis and CCGs, Fair Oaks comics and gaming and Gainesville nails just about everything. The staff have been incredibly friendly, willing to discuss favorites or just talk shop, make recommendations and suggestions. Their outward friendliness really sets them apart from similar stores in the area. I firmly believe in supporting local shops and stores, and these are the kind of stores that not just set the standard, but raise the bar for others to compete. I always make it a point to stop in whenever I pass one, and they've always had something new and interesting. OK. So me and my 8 yr old mad genius son walk in... and this guy behind the counter initialized conversation immediately. I felt like I was at a doctors office: "Do you like games or comics... have you considered origin comics?" And he hands us this freakin' masterpiece: Superman if he landed not in Kansas but deeply embeded his kryptonic pod in Stalin's Soviet Union. The weird thing is I am a Russian American and am always looking for an angle to share my heritage with my sons! "Is this guy part telepath, or what?" I am thinking. Then he gets in my son's head: "What kind of games do you like... or rather, WHY do you like them?" And the boy answers "characters/stories"... so he leads us to a section of stand alone card games and introduces us to the award-winning game Gloom. And he even gives me the website to demonstrate game play! All that is fine and good... but the truth is... this young amazingly intuitive employee was RIGHT ON THE MONEY. The comics and games we bought have added dimensions of fun to my family time off that I never thought possible. An absolutely amazing experience of empathic/telepathic/intuitive and artistic customer serive bar none. These guys are the real deal and they do what they do to enhance your fun factor by a trillion. If you have not been, or have never attempted this type of recreation... well I suggest you pay a visit. 5 stars hands down. You guys are the bomb! read more

It was my third time going to this place for a Thursday standard magic the gathering tourney... And someone in this community stole my box of standard cards (estimated at $60 lost) that were placed on the table. This was extremely disappointing to me because I tend to trust a new shop/ community that I go to. I would not recommend this place at all. Please watch out for your belongings and keep an eye on members who might look shady. Even though the amount stolen wasn't too great, the loss of security at this establishment was too much to bare. They do tons of game leagues, societies, book clubs etc and the staff is very accommodating. They really go out of their way to help in any way they can. read more

I've been to a lot of Comics and Gaming shops in my time (even worked in a few and this one is truly great. The stigmas of other gaming shops do not exist here. Excellent staff when you're entering the store. They're also friendly and knowledgeable able what they're selling. If you have any questions about a particular comic they'll help you out anyway they can. If there a comic you're looking fo me and it's not on the shelf they can definitely order that particular comic/issue and all you have to do is just leave them you're phone number for them so they can contact you. They do have really good games for kids and adults/parents too. read more

It's quite unfortunate that I'm writing this review as I have had quite a few experiences similar to those described in other 5 star reviews here. However, I believe it's necessary to bring to the attention of the Yelp community some problems with the store that I have experienced. The first time I had an issue with the store was an incident wherein I was given a "hard sell" to purchase a game that I was interested in, only to find out after the fact that the game had been marked up nearly 100% from it's MSRP ($24.95 for an item with the MSRP of $14.95). When I returned the game, the staff was friendly and understanding, but the explanation given for the drastically marked up price was essentially "someone else will rip you off more". They basically admitted to practicing price-fixing strategies with ebay "scalpers". The second time that I had an issue, it was also related to price. A friend and I were looking at the Legendary deck building game and trying to decide whether we were ready to buy. The game was marked $37.99. When the employee rang up the game, he said that the game was $73.99. My friend and I were calm and cool about the mixup, and understanding that with that big of a difference between the price-as-marked and the price in their computer... we did not insist on receiving the item at the stated price. We attempted to negotiate a fair compromise on the price which would still give us a discount, but not hurt the store. At this point in the story, I feel a detour is in order. When I or my friends shop at our FLGS, we are *very* aware that the items we purchase are available at a lower price from online sellers such as Amazon. We tend to be "computer people" who are entirely comfortable and well versed in shopping for and finding deals online. It is extremely rare that I visit my FLGS without purchasing at least a small item. What I'm getting at is that I go to my FLGS with the intention of paying them to be there and to give me a positive environment and good service. Back to the story ... after returning home and discussing what had happened with the price of the Legendary game with some other people in our group of friends and family that also frequent Comics and Gaming, we found out that the MSRP for Legendary is $59.99, and that it was easily available for about $52. Comics and Gaming had given us the game at a "discount" of something like $64. The end result of these experiences is that I and my circle of friends feel that we can no longer trust Comics and Gaming, regardless of the seemingly friendly and helpful environment there. They simply don't have the best interests of their customers at heart in the way that they choose to do business. read more
