Quick visit with my wife on New Year's Eve, looking for a particular statue/figurine to complete a Wolverine display that I am working on. Easy location with plenty of parking, and nice looking storefront. Friendly greeting as we walked in by (Jason) who was all around great during our shopping experience. He was informative & helpful in assisting me & my wife find stuff. My wife walked out with some early birthday presents for our son. The store was neatly organized and very clean. Nice selection of comics, graphic novels, anime, funko-pops etc. Not a huge selection of back issues (no $1 Bins) that I saw. Overall, a nice Comic Shop worth checking out. read more

If you want comics this place is maybe great but if you are a Magic the Gathering card collector or seller this is not a good place to go at all. They have cards but they do not use any online card prices. I was looking to buy dual lands but first asked about an Entomb they had priced at 50% over the Near Mint TCG price, at the time there were over 20 listing available at half the price. I asked if they would come down to market price and was told they never come down on price Needless to say I walked out and hit buy from TCG on my phone. I try to buy local first but wont be doing it from shop. read more

When you're in the shop everyone is VERY friendly, and I appreciate that. They have a huge collection of comics and manga to choose from as well as statues and various card games. Everything is fairly priced and if you're looking for it they probably have it. My issue is the few times they DIDN'T have what I was looking for, I've asked them to order it. I also picked up something small or maybe didn't really want because I want to support my local comic store. And here's the thing. I could easily place my own order on Amazon probably get it cheaper and faster, but again I really WANTED to support my local comic book store. They told me they had ordered it and would call me when it came in. Two weeks went by and I called to check in. Was told no sorry hasn't come in yet. A month goes by and I call again this time they sound irritated and I get told they will call me when it comes in. At that point I decide screw it. I'll order it on Amazon and have it delivered tomorrow. And I'll go ahead and preorder the next few books in the series. It's now been 5 months. They never called. So it just kind of feels like, don't offer to order something if you're not going to follow through. I'm sure I'll be back eventually. I like the selection and general vibe there, but I don't think I'll be asking about anything that's not on the shelves going forward. It just feels like you're an inconvenience at that point. read more

To put this store in comics terms, BLAM! I haven't been this impressed with a comic store in ages, and was able to simply window-shop with glee for about 45 minutes. This is a real collector's paradise. Comics of course are present, but they have about 20 or so shelves full of collections/graphic novels/TPBs (which is my preferred way to buy physical comics). They have plenty of cards of all types - the standard Pokemon/Digimon/Magic stuff, but also some pretty hard to find things (I snagged a couple packs of Garbage Pail Kids cards for my kids). They have a ton of sculptures and toys - particularly if you're into Funko (they had everything from Ringo Star to Jack Skellington). And they've even got a back room dedicated to anime/manga, with DVDs, toys, books (including some gorgeous leather-bound editions) and even some hentai. The staff was also very nice, swapping stories with me for about half an hour and telling me about some of the neighboring businesses. I went with three stars because this store is A+ in some respects and F in an important one. THE GOOD: Amazing selection and a huge stock of trade paperbacks. They carry everything you'd want by Marvel and DC and also a great range of indie publishers -- Boom, Image, Dark Horse, etc. and several shelves of manga. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they are happy to order anything they don't have on hand. Since I like patronizing local businesses rather than Amazon, I am happy to pay a little more to have them get me what I want. THE BAD: This store has no digital presence at all. Its website hasn't been updated in years, nor have its social media accounts. You can't order or manage your pull list online, or even see what's new in the shop. Anyone just looking at the website would assume the place is out of business. Hiring a freelance web designer/social media manager would be a great investment. Overall, the physical store is a hero, the website is a zero. read more

Painted Visions is ok, but they seem to specialize in modern comics and statues which just isn't my thing. I'm more of a Golden Age/Silver Age kind of guy so needless to say, this shop doesn't have a whole to offer as far as my collecting bones are concerned. However, the guys behind the counter were very nice and they do have a nice assortment of Magic The Gathering Cards (Get those dual lands, boys and girls) So for the right type of collector, this place could be a major score. read more

Really good comic book shop. Has a large selection of trades along with the usual supply of recent singles. Also carries Magic the Gathering. Figures and other collectables are located around the shop. HUGE selection of new Manga, if you've been to the dealer's room in Otakon they are there every year. The staff members here have always been top notch and knowledgeable about comics and the various associated subjects. They almost always greet you upon entrance and strike up a conversation. Only complaint is the store does not have many old comic long boxes due to lack of space. read more

First of all. Their price gauging of specifically SHfiguarts action figuarts are just that. They will say "oh we have to pay (insert dollar amount) so we have to charge between 30% to 40% {Major Buu $109.00 plus tax? On a $70 figure ? Just left there the majority are almost $25 or $35 approx marked up. Then when your done listening to their reply which you know is untrue and just greed talking. Then they will refuse they were wrong and said they once had a figure that doesn't even exist. So to my fellow shfiguarts or other Japanese products collectors, go elsewhere. You can get almost 2 figure for the price of one or theirs. GameStop will order them for you at retail, amazon preorder at retail.please don't overpay your hard earned cash on a store who could of at least been straight up and say "hey we make more cash this way" read more

I was racially discriminated by one of the employees on Father's Day. I attended Awesome Con 17 in DC, and as a black man who purchased a ticket for three days and took a picture with Stan Lee, I was accused of trying to steal a hand-me-down comic by a white, balding, grey, sad and alone man. I was surprised an exhibitor at the convention approached and said, "you can look at my shit so long as you don't steal it." A violent thief would have knock him out and resume sipping his bottled water, but I have something to lose if I was an asshole like this gentleman, who probably owns the store. I walked out of the space feeling angry, but I was disappointed someone racism prevented a young man from enjoying a Marvel Comic, the foundation of diversity. I have money, could have purchased the used old comic, but I'm not supporting hatred. read more

The absolute worst customer service and owner experience I've ever had, hands down! Since the pandemic, I've gotten back into comics and this was one of the spots I choose to invest in, but from the start, I always felt like a bottom rung customer, as books I would ask for I would always be told oh that's going to one of our special guys. Overall Larry and Funko are good guys, but they don't have the strongest customer service skills and often come off as cold and blunt. I recently closed my pull list and would not recommend any business to this store after a series of experiences, mind you I was doing about $150 a week in comics with this store and buying expensive books off their wall. Examples of my horrible experience: - I picked up a book off their discount rack, mind you everything on the rack was $25-$40 but this item had lost its tag. Well, Larry told me this book has gone up in price so he was going to let the owner reprice it and would get back to me. I don't feel businesses should be repricing books because your customer brought it up for purchase, absolutely go through and update your prices as often as you want, but clearance racks and repricing at the register is a big no-no in my opinion. Took them 2-3 weeks and was the worst experience. - I was excited to get in on a BRZRKR #1 signed by Keanu R., I signed up for a payment plan and was told it would be roughly 1400-1500 for the (9.6 or 9.8) I understood there were no guarantees with grading, but still I wasn't told how he would select the people who got 9.8s. Either way, 2-3 months pass and I'm about 900.00 into my payment plans and I ask for updates, to which I was told, yeah we got grades back, you are getting a 9.6, but it's going to cost you more money because you didn't sign up via Facebook. I said you never told me about anything about being on Facebook as I'm not a member and don't use the app. He then proceed to tell me it would be 400 dollars more and they would secure the book for me, to which I told him just forget it and I grabbed a 900.00 Slab off the well. Incident #2! - As I mentioned, I was doing about $150 a week in books with the store, mind you unlike other local shops (Tosche Station or Gateway/Flashback) they only offer a small discount for your pull items, nothing of the walls will be discounted. Those other shops offer rewards programs, 10, 20, 30% off, so when you spend your money and you can earn big savings, meanwhile you get nothing at Painted Vision, yet their books are marked up for retail so it's a no-win situation. But the real issue I had was it takes months to modify your pull list, books I didn't even order that the shop workers would put on my pull list as a suggestion I couldn't even stop buying because they said I took one of the copies last month when they slipped it in, I needed to take the next once since they preordered it for me. So for several months, I would argue to have books removed from my pull list, but they had no clear record as to what was on my pull list when I asked. Extremely frustrating. - Recently, I've just been going in to grab a book I want, with no pull list discount, but the final straw came on 6 March 2022, when a book that had been sitting on their racks for 5 months (Back Issues), High Republic #10, I went in and grab 4 or 5 copies along with 1 or 2 other books. The regular cashier Funky had no issues selling me the books and was just finished with totaling up when the owners, (mind you I've never met this gentleman) walks up and didn't even introduce himself and proceeded to halt my purchase. This guy had literally just walked in the store and said hold up we have a new policy we don't sell more than one book to a customer off the rack. I said, but I've shopped here numerous times and that just isn't true, he proceeded to say, well new Wednesday books are the policy, to which I said this book had been here for 6 weeks or longer. Well, his employee "Funky" just turned his head away as he could see this owner was about to be a real piece of work to me. He opened his phone and looked up the books on eBay and said to me in a nasty tone... you can have one book, I said nope, I won't have any of your books. Hunting comics in back issues is a pleasure, I will not be bullied by any shop only who wants me to do the work for them and then they want to reprice a book in my hands that was in old books for 5-6 months. No sir! For the casual reader, don't spend your money here, they are overpriced and have poor customer service. For the hardcore collectors, investors, and spec hunters, avoid at all cost, if I spend thousands of dollars with you, I deserve to be treated like a VIP customer, not berated for grabbing old books and having you come up with on the fly policies. To Noran... You rock bro! I've never had a bad experience with that guy and he get the job done, sucks you are a part of what I see is an extremely bad business. read more

They have a large selection of books (Trades and Manga) and current issues. They also have a lot of Magic The Gathering cards and supplies. Its an ok store though. If they are going to have as much Gaming supplies as they do I would expect tables setup for casual gaming or events. If you are really a comic fan though you need to go across Smoketown Rd to Flashback and check out their selection. read more

First time I've ever written a review, but this experience was so comically bad I felt the need to share. I left work on my lunch break to get the new issue of SAGA. When issue 55 came out I did the same thing. Grabbed 2 copies, one to read and one to save. Guy in the shop the first time seemed like a good dude, basic niceties, paid the man and on my way. Thought I would run it back for issue 56. Not what happened. I grabbed two and waited behind one of the other 2 customers in the shop to pay for my copies of 56. The guy behind the desk (not the same dude as before) informed me store policy said I could only buy 1. I thought this was absurd not only because I already did it on the release date of 55, but also because they had tons and I only wanted 2. Regardless, I don't argue as he pulls one copy to his side of the counter, figure I'll get one now and one tomorrow. Again, not what happened. He then tells me another store policy is that cash only for purchases under $5. I walked back to my car empty handed and angry. No lunch and no comics. Guess I'm now looking for a new place to buy comics, and telling anyone I know to do the same. read more

Top of the line comic book store with an engaged and knowledgable staff. Great location a few blocks off 95 for those coming far distances. highly recommend using their subscription service for monthly titles. Though there is plenty in stock back issues and trades are not this stores strong suit. Manga and Magic the Gathering appears to be their core revenue stream due to the large card collection and loyal customer who come to buy and trade for cards. PV also has upped its statue game tremendously. The pricing is comparable to Ebay and other stores. Employees seem to go out of their way to assist parents with children when choosing their first comic or point out books that may appeal to that demographic. My only ting on the store are the price of variants that to range from $5 to $40 . The reason for the pricing is vague. Usually they cite whats online. The pricing policy should be laid out or explained to customers upfront. The "take our word for it" approach may cause the store to turn customers off. The owner also lacks an online presence for some odd reason.Thats his choice but seems very out of step for 2015. read more

Painted Visions has a great selection of comic books, both new issues and old. They carry trade paperbacks, manga, and are mostly comprised of (my favorite) American/western (the locale, not genre) comics. They also carry cards, which I don't really play but appreciate the availability. Painted Visions also have the fun collectors items like acrylic models, pint glasses/mugs/shot glasses with comic logos, posters, t-shirts, etc. The staff is very knowledgeable and can make recommendations to people who don't really know what they want to read. It's not a huge shop, but it's plenty big and they pack it full of the stuff that you're going there to find. read more

Love the store, but every time we come in, the man I presume to be the owner, does something completely unprofessional- which is why we don't come more than a few times a year anymore. This time was berating an employee in front of a customer over inaccurate pricing on a figurine (after admitting her knew it wasn't this employee's fault), and then handing the purchase back to the visibly uncomfortable woman who had been trying to purchase the item and said something along the lines of "here's your super discounted gift" (the item was still $75 bucks) it was ridiculous, and not the first time I've seen this same man act slightly unhinged in front of customers. In a business that depends on people actively supporting you rather than clicking a button online, he needs to take some business management courses. People should not know when you're upset with your staff or business partners or distributors. read more

I went there to buy some manga and there was a HUGE room a manga list from A-Z the also had figures, plushes and wall scrolls. Almost every manga was put in clear little seal bags. I bought two mangas and there in PERFECT shape. They also had other anime cards at the front desk, the employees really talk with costumers too and are really interactive. I've been coming here since I was 12, and I'm 24 now. I love this place. They have every thing you need pop culture, comic, and manga wise. The card selection is amazing if you love the card games they have, with a vast amount to choose from. and the staff is the best part of the whole experience, they know so much about comics, they can always point you in the right direction of something to read. read more

I go there all the time. The staff is friendly and willing to help and there is a lot of things I would probably not expect to find like an extensive manga library in the back room, DBZ figures, Pokemon packs, top loaders and sleeves, and such. I love the spider man comics the most but they seem to have a bit of everything. There is usually a nice discount bin with really old comics for $1 that I really like as well. My only suggestion would be to have a more diverse collection of individual cards for sale. Seems like they only have MTG but I bet a lot of people would go crazy for some Pokemon cards, especially the old out of print ones. However, I would encourage them to do this only if they are knowledgable on prices and the cards themselves since sometimes cards can differ in value with very tiny differences. read more

Started going here when Nova Comics in Springfield closed down. Not a bad substitution. Service is pretty good. The guys like to make recommendations, and they're usually pretty good. Very polite. The store is probably 70% TPBs, and 30% Cards, Merch and Comics. Comics are mostly 6 months old or less. Not a lot of back issue selection. read more

I have to say, even though the subscription service is clearly explained and I understand why they feel the need. I dislike having to subsidise bad customers with my ten dollars for you to bother to set aside my subscription. The 10% discount wasn't worth that. You should reward good customers, not penalize them for bad customers. They have a great manga selection with covers that aren't bent and mangled from in store readers. The staff has always been courteous and helpful every time I've gone in. As opposed to some of their near by competitors, what I really liked about this comic shop was the larger audience it caters to. Instead of just hardcore bins and bins of comics only, there's also a wall of figurines, art books, and some children's books themed DC/marvel. As an introvert I really appreciate that they ask if there's anything I need when I first walk in, but if I say I'm good, they let me look around without nagging or constant questions. read more

I've been visiting Painted Visions on and off for years. Chris Lloyd and his team, Tommy, Funky, and Adam have been nothing but the best every time I've visited. The atmosphere is welcoming, and their personnel know be my name and are genuinely happy to see their customers walk in, even on days when you don't end up buying anything. The team is consistently knowledgeable about everything in the store, including comics and CCGs. They give excellent discounts, including for having a box. They have a very wide selection of comics, CCGs, and anime. Adam has been a great tutor as I've started becoming a serious Magic player and gave me spare sleeves to start off. read more
