I needed my Xbox 360 repaired as it would no longer read any dvd's and, after searching around I discovered that Fix & Play had excellent reviews. So, even though I live in Tempe, I had it dropped off by my brother as he left town headed west to Cali. A few days later they called and said it was ready to be picked up which was a wonderful surprise! Several days later on Sunday I called to confirm that they were open and my Xbox was ready to which associate Tony replied that it was ready and to pick it up by 6pm. I take the 45 minutes drive out to Avondale from Tempe and guess what, it's still broken! The dvd tray will not open and initially I was instructed that I'd have to come back!! "Who called you and when did they call?" Tony, the gentlemen working the counter asked me. "I'm not sure, but they called me on Wednesday telling me that it was fixed," I responded. "Well, did he say it was ready?" Incredulously, Tony asked. "Yes," I replied,"That's why I'm here!" This conversation really happened!!! After speaking firmly that I wasn't driving out twice, Tony contacted the repairmen/owner and they instructed me that his car was broken and he'd try to repair it by closing! Really?!?! I'm not sure why all the great reviews but my initial look is that this store is barely surviving, run by employees who have no idea about customer service, etc. Needless to say, I won't ever return to this joint again... and I'd advice anyone to ensure that when contacted to inform you that you repair is ready... ask them to really check that it is in fact, ready! read more

We had an issue with our kids' Xbox One not being able to connect the headset. We tried online forums AND MICROSOFT support. Microsoft support assured me over and over they wanted to help me resolve the issue only to get frustrated and hang up on me. Maybe it was her first day on telephone support. We took the console to Game Smash and paid $50 for them to fix it. It took a couple tries but they fixed it and we don't have to listen to kids talking through the TV. Thank you. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to give 0 stars if I could. Every time I go in there they make it seem like I'm bothering them, very rude. Everything has a hidden fee, they seem to be under the impression that they're Game Stop. Game Stop gives u 7 days to decide if u like a game if not u can take it back and get another one. These people give u 2 days to return an item if u missed the 2 days your screwed. Can't wait to see this lame store go out of business read more

they changed the name to gamesmash and they cleaned up all my dvds to like new i always walk out happy like a happy person who got his dvds fixed to like new read more

I had been a consistent customer for game smash for about the last year. Their prices had always been on the high side, but you sometimes trade that for convenience. Also, you tend to wait a long time in the line to check out because they typically only have one attendant. My recent experience was not the greatest. I picked out six games to purchase, but after waiting 20 minutes in line, and an additional 20 minutes for the attendant to look up the games. He discovers they do not have three of the games that I picked out from the shelves. While I'm waiting, they had random boxes of stuff on their counters. One marked 25 cents each, so I picked out several Gameboy cases and dust sleaves to add to my purchase. When I get rung up, the attendant indicates the total will be $77. So, I was startled because I had 23 items from the 25-cent box, one game that was $2.99, another that was $9.99, and another labeled $19.99. The total should have been around $33 plus tax. Through discussion I was getting charged $1 for the 25 cent items, and $35 for the $19.99 item. They corrected the 25 cent items but said that they forgot to change the sticker on the $19.99 item. So, they did not want to honor their labeled price, but charged more at the counter. This price was already inflated as the item traditionally goes for $15 on Ebay & via price charting. I was not going to pay $20 more for the item, so I indicated that I will just purchase the two remaining games. If they are not wanting to honor their labeled prices on their items and marks up at register - I'm afraid this will be my last visit there. read more

These guys are great! They have every retro game you could possibly want and can fix anything!

This is my weekly stop, I go in and check the movie selection like most, because its cheap. However I found that that staff here has extensive knowledge about what they are selling, so often im able to get the best movie picks for my buck. I doesnt seem to bother them that I go in with my kids either!! Movies, games, controllers, game consoles they got it all!! read more

I'd give negative stars if I could. They'll list things on offer up make a deal with you and then change the deal when you actually show up. We made an agreement for a trade on an arcade machine and then when we got there (even though condition of the bottom was made clear) they changed the deal and wouldn't 'trade' but give us credit. And with their WAY over inflated prices. No thank you. And when we told him "well that's a negative review" they threatened to sue us. CHARLATANS!! read more

I will start by saying the customer service, lack of communication and professionalism is Infuriating. Dropped Xbox off and was told it would take 2 hours to fix the hdmi once started. 4 days later, several calls, mixed stories and us stopping in day 3 to be promised it would be fixed the next day....We get a call that it can't be repaired. We went out of our way to give our business to a local game shop to support a small business. I myself am a small business owner and know the value of each person who walks through my door. Not mad that they couldn't fix it....We were upset because they took 4 days to decide it wasn't worth their time to fix it after getting the run around, I lost it when the tech stated "We couldn't afford it" and talked to me with such disrespect. They also tried to give it back to us not put back together. I could go on and on....Main thing to take from this...DON'T GIVE THIS GAME SHOP YOUR BUSINESS. read more

I am very disappointed not only with the customer service but with the retro games I purchased. My son who just turned 4 loves playing video games. So my wife and I thought it would be a good idea to let him play the classic games on the Nintendo 64. So we called around different shops and fount Game Smash. We live in the East Valley so we decided to call to see if they had the classics Mario games on the N64 before we made that long drive. The gentleman at gamesmash said that they had a lot of Mario games on the 64. So we drove an hour one way to purchase these games. We were excited to find they had a good selection of classic games. Before I made the purchase I asked the clerk what his return policy was he said I have a 90 day warranty. We spend almost $400 on these games. Got home cleaned the games with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip as instructed and fount out half the games didn't work. So I called the store the next day the gentleman said that only a manger can do exchanges so I would have to call back when the manager was in. So I qcalled the following day and the manager was working so I drove another 1 hr one way to exchange these games. I brought the games and the receipt just to be told that all sales are final. I was extremely disappointed because not only did I spend a lot of money but I bought games that didn't work. In addition, please learn from my mistake if you decide to purchase used or retro games from this place first have them test the games in front of you because they will not exchange nor reimburse you. read more

A good buddy of mine in the Smash Community recommended me this place for SM4SH tournaments every Saturday from 1pm-4pm. I believe it was the 21st of May when I went for the first time with 2 other friends and it was pretty fun. At least 10 other people went. I was excited and couldn't wait for next week. I go the next week and 1 of my friends show up and it's only us there (keep in mind we showed up around 30 min before the tournament started.) No one was showing up. The guy at the front desk said its most likely since everyone is graduating. I personally thought that was a dumb comment since graduations were during the week, why would that stop anybody from showing up? Me and my friend accepted it anyway and hoped the next week would be better. Nope. No one showed up except for me and my friends (3 of us) We just decided to pay $6 each to play SM4SH for 2 hours and play friendlies and leave. I showed up the next week and still wasn't enough people. Now this past weekend I didn't even bother going and had my friend tell me whether there were enough people or not and nope. No one showed. How are you going to announce tournaments online without any confirmation whether people are going to be showing up or not? I kind of ticked me off that I was showing up every Saturday only to see that the tournament was cancelled. As a Video Game store, it's so-so. Customer service is pretty bad. Not that they curse you out for breathing or anything, it just seems like they could care less and think almost everyone that walks into that store doesn't know jack about a video game. On one of the Saturday's I went to check if the tournament wasn't cancelled, I walked in and the first thing the guy at the front desk does is look right into my eyes for 2 seconds and just looks away. I say "Hey, good afternoon." He doesn't say a word. As a person with good manners and employed with a job that involves customer service, I repeat "Hey, how's it going?" He turns and says in the most depressing voice "....hey..." I just said in my head "Whatever." I look around to see what they got as I wait for more people to show up for the tournament (which none of them did.) I see that most of their products are knock-off brands and pretty overpriced. For example I saw a Original PS3 power cord for $15 from a knock off brand when GameStop sells Sony branded ones for $5. Also I saw a WiiU Game Cube Controller Adapter for $30 from another knock off brand when GameStop sells their original Nintendo adapters for $20. I don't know, if your a serious Retro collector, I guess it's a alright store since they do have ALOT of retro gaming accessories and consoles but if your more of a modern day gamer like myself, don't bother with this store. read more

I've been to this store only on a couple occasions but every single time I go, I have an amazing time. If it weren't for loitering laws, I'd spend most of my time there! The atmosphere is relaxing, the prices are fair, the selection is nice, there's always something cool to look at! The employees are always helpful and very nice as well. A lot more nice than the employees at Fallout Games. They're willing to answer any questions you have and there's no fuss! I'm definitely going to keep my business here. read more

Would not buy from here ever again. $54 dollars for a controller that never even worked. Both triggers wouldn't work on games. Came in tried to repair it twice. Still would not work. Unreasonable price for a used controller read more

Worst customer service ever. I would give them zero stars if I could. I came in looking to get my Xbox series one elite controller fixed. It had some bad stick drift on the left thumb stick so me and the guy at the counter concluded that the thumb stick module needed to be replaced and it was going to be $50. For that price I could've bought a new regular controller but this is the elite one so I figured I'd just pay it. He said it would take up to four days to be completed and fixed then I could pick it up. One weeks goes by, nothing, two weeks go by, nothing, THREE weeks go by without a single full or update from them. At this point I've called them multiple times frustrated that they have had my only controller for this long and haven't said anything about it and every time I called they always said "I'm sorry but we'll give you a call when it's ready." So finally after three and a half weeks I just go in to the store to pick it up regardless if it's done or not. They give the controller back to me without the battery tray cover. The guy spends ten minutes looking around the shop for it and can't find it, so they lost it. He says "I'll give you a call if I find it." Then he says "so our technician changed the module but it's still not working." Completely fucking useless. After wasting three and a half weeks of my time this is what I was told. Not once did they apologize for the massive inconvenience at all. So then I get home and proceed to test the controller and now the thumb stick is unmovable, completely broken now. The controller is completely unusable now which mind you, retails for $150. So to say the least I'm furious at this point. This is a joke of a company made up of a completely useless and incompetent staff who loses parts to your controllers and returns them in worse condition than they arrived. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Brought in a Ps4 for repair of HDMI and less than a month later the input stopped working again. It worked at first but suddenly stopped working. They want to charge me $80 again when it's their work that didn't hold up. I do not recommend this place. Go somewhere else. read more

Here is a review that I posted on Fix & Play's Facebook page on 4/19/2014, a few days after my purchases at their store: "Let me start off by saying that I had high hopes for this store (107th and Indian School) and planned to do a lot of business here. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to be the case. I bought a Nintendo 64 console and a few games the other day when there was a sale (console for $29.99) and I asked about the warranty because I was planning on giving it a fresh paint job. The clerk told me that it would void the warranty, and he applied warranty stickers to the console, controller, and games (completely understandable). That same day, I ended up returning one of said games because it was defective and didn't work on the console. I told him that I was in a rush to get to a movie with my girl, so I needed to hurry and be on my way. He proceeded to help a customer in line BEHIND me, then dug out a console from the back to test the game which, surprisingly, didn't work. He then told me he would apply credit for the game to my account. Let's just say that I didn't make it to my movie. Fast forward to a few days later (yesterday). I was pleased to find a more friendly employee helping me. I came in and bought 3 games for my 64, which ended up being about $50 (They didn't have any fancy warranty stickers put on them. Weird, huh?). I took the games home and was pleased to find out that they worked; however, I had a bit of buyer's remorse over one of them and returned to the store today to exchange it for another game, minus a "restocking" fee. The employee (friendly guy) told me that my store account was flagged because I was suspected of copying the games and returning them to the store, based on my previous discussion about warranty the week prior. He told me that soon, they would no longer be accepting returns from me. He also told me that I had no credit on my account. What a load! My advice would be to avoid this place. Their store looks junky and unprofessional, the space behind the counter is cluttered and messy, the employees have no sense of customer courtesy, and their prices are crap. You're better off going to RipoffStop or buying from Craigslist." A few days ago, I then received rude replies from them on one of their posts (see here: http://tinypic.com/r/np0z1s/8) After this, I filed a complaint against them with the BBB, asking for a simple APOLOGY for their crumby customer service. I received a reply from them (shown here: http://tinypic.com/r/2h505rb/8) basically saying that in order for me to receive even a simple apology, I would need to provide the receipts from my purchases from almost 4 months ago. Please, steer clear from this train wreck of a store. read more

They have an amazing selection of movies for a very reasonable price, it is the place to go if you are looking for an older movie or even a variety of recent ones. Some of the people that work there are not too familiar with video games and because of that they could not answer basic questions I had. The store has all kinds of retro games and newer games that my children love to browse and choose from. Overall it is a great store and I always find something when I go in. read more

First of all it took forever to find. Sometimes I can excuse this. I walked in and didn't even receive a "welcome" or "hello". Found a game I was willing to buy, but was used and was for the GameCube and the price was 50. Instead of help I was just given stares and a feeling like I didn't belong. Thank for that. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone who just wanted to find a game to play read more

I've been to A LOT of video game stores in Los Angeles and in Arizona, this place was really awful and over priced, the clerk that was working said a "brand new" never opened Super Nintendo box was $1000, which was super over priced seeing as that box was in horrible condition and looked as if it was open, every corner of the box was worn out. When you hear brand new you want to see something in tip top crisp condition especially for the price I expect close to perfect. Then my boyfriend looked for the ps one game blasto we found a really crappy case which said it was $14 or so, and then the clerk couldn't even find the game, we were very disappointed. I went looking for Nintendo 64 games and lots were like $48 and up, when I went to a place in Los Angeles called World 8 for the same games were less than $15. But yeah lots of things may be in boxes still here but then again look like they've been mistreated. Plus lots of the games I was looking for were not available. Not coming back here again. First visit of 3/16/2012 brought in video game system because it would not read disks, charged $170 to repair. 6/22/12 brought game system back in because the system would not turn on properly. They stated it was a different issue this time and charged another $70. I allowed them to proceed with repairs. A week later they called and informed me that it was ready. I picked up the system the next day and set the system up and it would not read or eject the disk inside. I then returned the system back and they wanted another $20 to take out the disk. I informed them that first they need to figure out why it is not ejecting and after an hour and half later they called me back and said it was fixed. They had placed a piece of tape on one of the components in the system and there was no charge after having multiple conversations with the store manager. He then became upset with me because I did not appreciate them placing a piece of tape in my system he then made a threat that he would rip it out and hand it back to me. I picked it up shortly after, I plugged the system back in, it ejects the disk however it still does not read the disks. It was stated they test all machines before leaving the store, however if this were done, then I would have a working video game system. read more

The guys at fix and play at first were kinda unfriendly. Seemed like they were just havin a bad day. So I thought Id give them a break and see how they were the next time. I go in another time and they're still dicks. I realized they are the kinda of store that if your not a usual or know what your talking about you kinda just get shitty service (or so it seems). I took in some items to trade in and the guy was short with me. He pawed through my stuff and kinda tossed it around. I wasnt mad at how much he could could give me for my items (which was really low) but just how he treated my stuff. Also there were a group of people in the store already and they were browsing, they seemed like they were usuals but I cant sat for sure. Anyway, given the way he treated me, it upset me to see he was kind and friendly to these kids that were directly behind me but rude and short with me. Personally I would never come back. read more
