Love love love! Found Game On, on yelp while trying to find something fun for couples. My boyfriend and I came here and had a fun time trying to figure out each room. There's six rooms currently available but many more to be added in the future. Each game is uniquely it's own. You get a locker to put your items in, as well as a card that you scan to get into the locker and each room. We're not very social people and we aren't big drinkers, so this place was perfect for us! We got to enjoy quality time together but were able to enjoy being out of the house without having to be with people. We will be back soon! read more

I had long been looking forward to my first visit to Game On and it did not disappoint! My son got a gift card for his 11th birthday, so I brought him and 3 of his school friends, all rising 6th graders. They were absolutely gaga for the place! Although the number of games currently open is small, there is a lot of replay-ability because our party of 5, after playing all the games for 1+ hours, split into a group of 2 and a group of 3, and they offer different challenges for those sizes, so you can have more fun in the same rooms: very clever! Some minor technical glitches occurred during play, but the team was ready to spring into action and help out and they always gave assistance when needed with a friendly, hands-on attitude. Much appreciated! It's clear that the team behind the experience is wholly dedicated to making sure everyone has a great experience. One of the boys in my group fell down one instant after I had reminded the kids NOT to run, and he sort of carried on and made a fuss - this kid has a flair for the dramatic - and the on-site team did a great job checking and making sure everyone was OK and then also giving him space and time to regulate. It's all part of a day's work. Our whole experience from the on-boarding, to the check-ins, to sharing some shop talk (I also design games), felt very personal and friendly, so combine that with amazing, sophisticated, original, hand-made challenging games and puzzles and you've got a real gem of a destination right in our backyard. There was even 1 game that we could not solve, but as we left we got a sneaky hint that there may have been a way to do it that we didn't discover, so we're going to go back and play some more. New rooms are coming soon, and once they open we will be so glad to return to play on at Game On! read more

It gives me a lot of heartache to give a negative review for a business I want to LOVE, but this place just isn't ready for prime-time yet. Even with a group who loves puzzles and places like this (escape rooms, and more of a parallel experience, Boda Borg in Boston/Sweden), the edges were just too rough. Some of the issues: - Only 5 rooms are open (a little light for a two hour visit) - 2 rooms (ropes, metal balls) had bugs via broken sensors (which the owners kindly acknowledged was going on when we tried to get to the bottom of the issues we noticed). Broken sensors are a HUGE issue when you're doing puzzles with ambiguous rules/winning conditions, since you then can't actually "solve" what's causing you to pass/fail the room. - 1 room (scents/senses) had a terrible odor and there was a large swath of wet carpet covered in clorox(?) - maybe due to prior vomiting or a water leak from recent storms? Unclear but nauseating. The positives are: - The other two rooms (both tree themed) felt reasonably well-built and were clever - It seems like the owners want to make it great - The systems for accessing the rooms + audio instructions all worked well If they can polish the rooms and add more, it can be great (like Boda Borg). It's just not there yet, and I'd bet it will take some time. read more

Game On is such a great place for family time, party time, and team building! We celebrated my son's 12th bday and he and the rest of the family loved it. We did groups of 4 and were all having a blast figuring out the challenges for each room. We love that it is NOT like escape rooms and you are not stuck in a room until you figure it... Here you get to keep going and you can level up and try the next levels for each room! I had my 50th birthday party here and couldn't have asked for a better party venue! The patio and inside rooms were perfect for food and chatting. We brought our own food, but they were kind enough to provide plates and utensils, etc. Everything from touring the place beforehand through booking and the party itself was as relaxed and easy as could be. What I will remember most is the laughter I heard the whole evening. I had friends from various eras of my life, and the rooms bonded people in their small groups and gave them something to talk about in the common areas. Everyone from 15-60 years old had a fantastic time, even friends who I was not sure would be into the concept. The rooms were all very different from one another and so well designed. 2 families drove from an hour and a half away, and the teens talked the whole way home about the puzzles and how it was totally worth the drive. They'll be back even from that distance! We can't wait to go back to solve the puzzles we didn't have time for. Each room has 3 levels, so we have plenty more to do! I visited Game On a few weeks ago with some friends and it was such a unique and interesting gaming experience. Staff was very friendly, beer was good, and the place had an overall welcoming, fun vibe to it. The games that were available were challenging enough to get our collaborative minds going, and fun enough we enjoyed going back into the rooms to get the winning condition. I've not played any games like these, to discover the rules as you play is a fun and interesting method to engage your mind. The only reason this is not 5 stars is Game on has some room to grow. If the unfinished rooms are the quality of the finished ones (and I am sure they will be), this place will be absolutely amazing. I plan to continue to keep and eye on it and visit again as more puzzles are introduced. I really hope they get the marble game's kinks worked out because we had a blast working on that one. Here is the sign you need! Not only did we have an amazing time but we were impressed with the number of game rooms available. You can tell there is passion and time that go into each room! And there is much more to come! Each room has a unique game/ puzzle there were 6 available when we went. We also enjoyed a pitcher of beer and freshly popped popcorn! We weren't sure what to expect but we are extremely happy to have taken the chance. We were a group of 4 and the games are altered based on the number of players. Each room has a completely different game and is challenging in unique ways. The pictures do not do this experience justice! My kids used to come to this building when it was Studio Grow. Now they're older and need different activities and so this new business is perfect for them. Our family loved playing all the games, especially the rope one and the whack a mole. Maybe the one we couldn't do too many times was the scent one as it could get nauseating if you do it too much. This place was a lot of fun! The website suggests it is for older kids, but I think lots of families with kids would enjoy this. We took our 11-year old daughter and we all had a great time. We walked in with no reservation, for something spontaneous and different for a Saturday evening. Employees were friendly and welcoming. If you like escape rooms but prefer a more casual concept then this place is for you! Unlike any other game style place we've been to and we enjoyed this format! How it works: - Currently there are 5 different smaller rooms, each with a different theme and "puzzle" to solve - each room takes a maximum of 5 minutes for you to complete. If you don't do it on the first try, you can re-enter as many times as you like -each room is very different in terms of style and difficulty so it's great for beginners or escape room experts alike! -depending on the number of people you play with, the objective of each room changes. So we can't wait to come back with different friends and try them all again! Best with 2-4 people but large groups can split up and compete and great for all ages - you pay a flat fee of about $40 and get 2 hours of unlimited play (way cheaper and longer than most escape rooms!) Other Amenities: -they offer local beer, soda, kombucha and coffee -they have a private party room for rent for your next birthday or work party! -you can get your event catered -there's a sitting area and small patio (no dogs allowed) -plenty of street parking if their private lot is full -and it's right near the Gilman district full of wineries, beer and food to make a day of it! 10/10 this place is AWESOME! It's a really clever and unique experience - it's hard to describe without giving anything away, but I'd recommend this to literally everyone in the Berkeley area. There's something there to enjoy for all ages - we went as a group of 4 adults and honestly not sure who was having more fun - us or the group of kids playing in the rooms alongside us. The puzzle rooms are interactive and whimsical - unlike an "escape room", this is a much more silly / fun experience, with a mix of physical & strategic challenges that make you think just the right amount! They are designed so that you need to try them multiple times, so when you fail it just adds to the fun! The guys who run the place were super friendly and are still adding new rooms and levels. The puzzles also change depending on how many players are on your team, so you can return with a different group size and have a different experience. Went on a double date here and had a blast! There was a great variety of games -- some super physical, some more mental, but all of them required working together. The facilities were very clean and you can tell that the owners have taken great care to put together really high-quality experiences. Staff onsite were also really friendly and engaging. As other reviewers have stated, there are 5 rooms open right now -- that was plenty for our group of 4 adults for our 2-hour session. (Once you complete the initial game, many of the rooms offer a Level 2 challenge as well!) I also learned that they've designed different games for each room depending on the size of the group. I'm excited to come back again in just a pair to see what I missed the first time, and to see what crazy stuff they build out in the "under construction" rooms in the meantime. read more

Super fun evening with the family! Went with our 2 sons, 14 and 17, and had a ball. Sometimes tough to find something we all can have the same level of fun at, but this was it. The diversity of rooms, some physical challenges, some mental challenges, was great. The ability to go back to a room as many times as you want, or for increasing levels of difficulty was also super fun. The facilities were clean, inviting, welcoming. Strategize, execute, fail/succeed and move to the next level/game! We need more Game On's! Incredibly unique and can't wait to go back with more people as a large group or event. Game On is interactive, sensory-rich, puzzle solving and constant communication. Often times, it feels like if you want a night out with a partner, or friends, the options can feel limited. Game On provides a completely different experience that may seem like an escape room, but you get to learn from your mistakes, figure out a plan, and complete the game to get to a new level. Each person can have a different role in the different mystery rooms too so even after you complete a room, you can switch roles with your group so it's still new and fresh (and can replay the different level tiers). As of now, five very unique games with many more in the works. I went with my partner's teenage son and we had an absolute blast, and it's definitely for adults, or a mix of teenagers and up (I would say if you are with middle school age kids and up - keep the ratio to 1:1 adult to kid). I really hope this place gets the love, attention, and support because it brings a new option for a date, hanging with friends, doing a family activity, and is fun and cerebral. My son had his 17th birthday party here and the kids loved the rooms. We played a few of the rooms and found them challenging and engaging. I really respect the team that put this place together. The cat6 cable trays down the hallway gives techies a feeling for the data transfer and control going on here. This place is a labor of love for them. I understand there is an electrical, programming and mechanical specialist and they work together to bring this experience to us! The kids were all hyped up and many said they wanted to come back to win all of the rooms. Really impressive small business in Albany. If you had an aspiring engineer- this would be an excellent hands on place to volunteer and learn. read more

Brought my children here for a gathering for their birthday and i was PLEASANTLY PLEASE!!! Let start off with customer service, Tim (i believe he is the director) SUPER POLITE, EXTREMELY HELPFUL, VERY ACCOMMODATING!!! I reached out to him stating that I wanted to come to GameOn for my babies 12th birthday however parents would be covering the cost for their children. Before all of my party could purchase tickets they were sold out!!! Tim did state that tickets sell out on weekends. He also informed me that there wasn't an issue with accommodating my party we just needed a head count. I requested roughly 12 student tickets and 3 adult tickets. His communication via email was fantastic, responded back within an hour! On the day of the event (3.9.23) I arrived 20-25mins early to begin my process of purchasing tickets and confirming who would be in what group. I was greeted by James, shortly after Tim came out from the back. We ended up having a very large group around 17-19 children and 4 adults. Though it was more children than I anticipated, he confirmed that it wasn't an issue and ensured me everything was okay. We listened to the directions for about 5-7mins then we were informed that there are some games that are under construction and if we see a sheet in the room do not cross the sheet because it isn't apart of the room. We set off into the rooms. 1st room was whack a mole, IT IS DIFFICULT! We didn't pass that one. 2nd one that was like trees, and you have to reach through the branches and turn the lights off doing the activities. We passed it after a few tries!!! There were roughly 6 rooms working and about 7 coming soon! This is a great place for team building or staff appreciation!!! We went as a family of four today (8 and 10 year olds) and we had so much fun! Just so different than our usual routine and really challenged us to think and work together. Some of the challenges we had to try 10-15 times to get it so it took some family resilience and pep talks. Felt satisfying to figure it out because of it! Owners are super friendly and enthusiastic about the whole experience which makes it extra fun. When we were leaving it was starting to get busy so it is harder to try the puzzle rooms you want consecutively. They have plenty of space and are looking to add/build out more puzzle rooms in the coming months so that's cool! My wife and I visited this on the recommendation of a coworker. We had a great time! It was a really unique experience. I think if you like escape games this will probably appeal to you, but the shorter more iterative experience of solving a small game one at a time made it much more enjoyable for us than escape games. This is clearly a new venue and really a new concept so go in with the mindset that you are trying out something before it becomes mainstream and you'll probably have a great time. Also chat with the staff, they are very friendly and eager to help. As well as show what they are working on. My team and I had a blast at GameOn! Our 2.5 hour session FLEW by b/c we were having so much fun. We could have easily gone longer with all the different team configuration possibilities. There are a few rooms that are a bit more physical, but you can easily opt-out of the room and enjoy their beautiful lounge with a beverage. So much fun! My family and I visited over the holidays and everyone had a great time. The staff person was super helpful and helped us out when we needed a hint, but let us work on our own when we felt we were on the right track for the solution. It was a good family outing as we all had to work together to solve the puzzles. We had a mix of ages in our group (18-77) and everyone felt involved and that their input was necessary. I would definitely go again as each room has multiple puzzles so there is still a lot I haven't done even after spending a very worthwhile two hours there. And they have beer! read more

Had a great experience with the family here today. The rooms were all unique and all the games were challenging in such different ways. My kids are almost 10 and 14 and they both had fun. James and Tim were so nice and helpful and made sure we were enjoying our time there. I only wish there were more rooms because when there are a lot of reservations there are only 5 rooms to go around. Although there are time limits to each challenge and the turn around for the rooms are quite quick, sometimes you just want to get right back in there to try and beat the game. So sometimes a little bit of patience is needed. Overall, would love to go there again once more rooms are open. read more

I wasn't sure if I would like this place since I have never liked escape rooms. But this is for sure more fun and a much faster paced game! You don't spent eternity in one room. Rooms has different themes, levels of difficult. Some focus on physicality others are more cerebral. Definitely recommend for families, dates, parties! Fantastic new game space in Berkeley! Our extended family (teen kids, not teen parents) visited during their soft opening and had a terrific time. The group enjoys puzzles and physical challenges so it was a perfect fit, and the fact that the games are collaborative, rather than competitive, made it an excellent family bonding activity.
