I had a really fun date night here! We booked the reservation online and were expected 15 minutes before hand to sign a waiver. Parking was easy for the time slot we chose, it's all street parking. After a safety demonstration and explanation we got an hour and a half of play. They have 6-7 axe throwing lanes. They have extra add one like throwing knives and different targets for extra charge. AxeVentures Berkeley staff truly goes above and beyond! From the calls I made before booking to our visit for a bachelorette party, everything was seamless and fun. They let us bring pictures to tape to the boards and even provided free balloons they pop loudly, but it just adds to the excitement! They took tons of photos of our group and let us choose the playlist, plus there are great add-ons like throwing knives for an extra fee. Street parking is available. Friends invited me to AxeVentures for my 20th birthday and we played for 75 minutes. SO fun and exhilarating -- those 75 minutes passed by in a flash. They have a decent assortment of different axes with various weights and shapes to accommodate all players, and the coaches walk you through the entire process + safety before you begin play. Stumbled upon this activity through Groupon. Location is nice as it's near some good restaurants so you can grab some grub before heading over. It was easy for me to find parking on the street as well. The staff is nice and efficient. They do a quick tutorial which is very much needed since I've never thrown an axe. There's some binders that have game ideas so that you and your group can have some sort of competition. There's snacks (like oreos, candy, etc) for sale, but it seems you can bring in your own food too (probably not alcohol though.. that would be a dangerous mix). My boyfriend randomly booked a 1 hour and 15 minute session for us and his 4 friends yesterday since it was raining and it's a cool indoor activity. It was a good deal, $200 for all 6 of us. So much fun! For about $30, you can have a full hour of just throwing axes on a wall. My and my friends came on a weekend just to try it out and we didn't think we would like as much as we did. You get a tutorial before you attempt throwing it on your own first then you get to play on your own time after. We came in, signed a quick waiver, and were giving a run down on safety procedures and proper technique. We got escorted to back. There's were 4 or 5 axe options. You could also do add one of other throwing objects but we stick to the basics. They also had a book nearby with a few options of games you could play and ways of scoring. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone! Glad I ran into this place There were 5 targets in the back which was great because we ended up going in a group. We were able to take turns. The quick tips were good and informative. We started to get a little more competitive, and we realized that some of the axes were sticking better to the boards that weren't completely butchered. The one on the far left was falling apart and the one on the right was completely new. We had an amazing time throwing axes. It was a great work out. Reminiscing on this experience with friends celebrating a birthday a month ago. I coordinated this event for a friends birthday. This is a perfect activity for any friend meet up. Something new or familiar that folks get a chance to experience and have fun while doing it. We had a party of 9 people that showed up and the rest of our party met us straight at the dinner spot afterwards. Axe Adventures didn't require us to make a reservation. Usually if parties above 6 reservation with credit card required if week or day in advance, but when I called they were able to block off an empty window for our large party event. There was a brief intro to how to safely throw around others around you. There was also a game book that encouraged us to separate into teams and take advantage of the 3 throwing lanes to have a competition amongst friends which made things interesting. We created team names Owl and Giraffe LOL due to some friends attire choices so that was phunny! When you have a birthday in the party, the company gives our balloons to the celebrant. I learned how to throw an Axe!!!! Axe throwing had been on my bucket list for some time. So I booked a 1 hour + 15 minute session at AxeVentures for my birthday. I descended down on this place with 5 girlfriends. For only $200, we had a lot of fun. Throwing an axe is a little harder than it looks. But the employees here are very helpful. I was able to get the hang of it and land some good throws. They of course make you sign a waiver, and have various rules to keep everyone safe. Ella/Elle was really informative with the instructions and the demonstration of throwing an axe. The staffs were really chill and down to earth and totally friendly to us and the other customers there. We went on a Friday night and that was their Glow In The Dark night. It was really cool! Overall, my husband and I had fun! For a first time axe thrower, it wasn't too hard to get the hang of it and you'll definitely have fun! They have street parking only and the location is on one of the busier streets of Berkeley. So, you have to park in the residential area and walk a couple blocks or so. It's not too bad though. Came here after a year to host a social club event. Apparently, they have glow-in-the-dark axe throwing on Monday and Wednesday evenings, which was new to me. As soon as I found out, I immediately called. The venue didn't pick up right away, but Peter did give me a call back within half an hour, answered all of my questions, and even offered a group discount code. I had an even better time this time around. I think it helped that it wasn't as crowded and the glow-in-the-dark theme was definitely a plus! Staff were also very helpful showing us the proper axe-throwing technique and giving feedback. Great team building experience and workout. They are always offering discounts, so definitely search online or call and ask. The staff are responsive and willing to help. I recommend booking a few days in advance. Definitely try at least once! I have been wanting to try axe throwing and luckily had a group of friends that organized an event. I will say this place is a blink and you'll miss it, at least from the street level. I didn't even know that Berkeley had an axe throwing place. There was a short intro/safety session but after a few minutes they let the axes go flying! There are 5 total areas and multiple axe (and even throwing knives) to try out. It is definitely harder than the movies make it seem! We were there for an hour and a half. I will say if I was there alone I might not have stayed the entire time, but when you bring a group of friends, it does get a little more competitive. There are binders with multiple games that you can play as well as plain paper to keep score (because you gotta know how much you win by!) Recommend coming by with your friends and let your inner barbarian loose! read more

Always a fun time throwing axes and hatchets and sharp objects at plywood. We came here last night for the third time and had a blast. If you're looking to release any pent up COVID frustration and anger, AxeVentures is a great place to blow off some steam. We made a reservation two days in advance online for a Friday night, it came out to be about $35 per person. There is a Groupon but I believe the offer is only good for Tuesdays. Each session is about 90 minutes, which is more than enough time for a group of four to get plenty of practice throwing sharp objects. They ask you to arrive 10 minutes early and require you to wear close toed shoes - safety first. Once you check in, everyone in your party is asked to sign a waiver on your phone. If the entire session is booked, it might take a while to get everyone checked in. There are some bar games to keep you occupied while you wait near the front. They take everyone to the back for the throwing demo to go through basic safety instructions and some tips on how to throw the axe so it sticks in the target. The demo isn't long and takes about 5 minutes. The demo is easy to follow and the instructors are available to help once you get settled on your throwing lane. Each group is assigned a lane and each lane is fenced off and the floor is cushioned with tan bark like material. There is a table behind each lane for you to store your stuff and to sit down while you're not actively throwing. I haven't done this yet, but I've seen other parties bring their own dessert if you're hosting a birthday or celebration. There is paper and a clipboard at each table if you want to play a game and keep score. Each table also has game suggestions if you want to have a friendly competition. It can take a couple tries to get the hang of throwing. If you're not getting it right away, flag down one of the instructors and they will help you adjust your throw, the distance you stand from the throwing line, how you hold the axe etc. until you can get the axe to stick to the target. I haven't been with a group yet where not a single person in our group is unable to get their axe to stick at least once. Once you get the hang of it, you'll have a blast! If you really get the hang of it you can try throwing with two hands overhand, throwing two axes at a time - you won't run out of options. There are multiple kinds of axes and hatchets to throw. Some are lighter, some are heavier. You pick whatever works best for you. At the end of our session they let us throw sharp shovels, which was pretty fun but I admit, I never got the hang of it. Throwing any and all sharp objects is always fun even if it doesn't work out quite right. A really fun and unique activity right on Telegraph in Berkeley. Highly recommend for your next date night, group get together or even team bonding outing with your co workers. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We've always thought it could be fun to try axe throwing, but never knew where to go. When perusing Groupon, I found out about this place in Berkeley. I picked up a Groupon for two, and gifted another to the couple we'd be going with. When I went online to book, I had a hard time figuring out how to use the Groupons, so I called. I spoke with Peter, the manager, and he explained that in the small print that the Groupon was only good for Tuesdays. We'd already planned for Friday night, so Peter offered to accept the value of the Groupons toward entry, with a 15% discount off the full price. The storefront was easy to find, and there was on-street parking nearby. We showed up early to check in and fill out waivers. The check-in process was easy, and they honored the payment as agreed with Peter. It's not a big place, but there are 7 alleys for throwing, separated by chain link fencing for safety. Everyone throwing in our reservation window was gathered and briefed at the same time. The person explaining the rules and technique was clear and concise, and checked for understanding frequently. The facility was clean, well-lit, and there was music. They had fans in case it got warm, and each group was able to socially distance together at their own table near their alley. Each table had hand sanitizer, a clipboard and pen, and guidance for different ways to score if you ever got good enough to be able to. We were glad to be able to bring food in, and we purchased drinks from their beverage cooler. Those in our party who enjoy a beer while doing things like this would've liked to be able to have a couple, but it's understandable that alcohol and sharp things don't necessarily mix well. Perhaps a 2 drink limit would be a good compromise. One thing that could really use improvement is the hygiene of the axe handles. The grips were very worn, and in some cases falling apart. They. were pretty grimey, and there's no way they could sanitize them even if they tried. I'd recommend that they proactively replace grips with material that's easily maintained and cleaned. Not just because of COVID, but in general. We had a good time, and it was fun to figure out how to make the axes stick and which ones were our favorites. It's one of those things we wouldn't make a habit, and we may or may not choose to do it again. read more
