They gave us some wine bottles to throw which sounded fun until we realized they don't explode like in the movies. Just sad little thuds against the wall. We ended up smashing a few on the floor just to feel something. The whole thing was over in under ten minutes and I still had plenty of rage left. The axe throwing area looked way more fun so maybe that's where the real action is. Glad I tried the smash room once but yeah not doing that again.

The idea of a smash/rage room was definitely on the list for my friends and I to try. We had a…read morerough year last year, and wanted to definitely take our anger and stress out in a rage room. It was an idea we always had, but never knew where to go until we looked at some options around San Francisco and San Jose. My friends were down to come up to SF for the day, so we ended up booking a 30 minute session for 3 people (Smash Squad package). The total came out to be $140 (including a promo code). After taxes would have been a bit over $150. You might think - dang, only 30 minutes? Why so short? Trust me when you actually swing and hammer things, it takes a TON of energy and force to break and dent things up. Our package supposedly came with: -30 plates - 2 "premium" electronics (gaming consoles, monitors, printers, etc) -3 smaller electronics -random furniture -more, but I'll get more into this. INITIAL CHECK IN AT THE LOCATION My friend and I got here early before our reservation time and wanted to check in. The music was blasting SUPER loud and there was no one in front. I took a couple minutes for someone to come, turn the music down, and then check us in. They provided us safety glasses/face shields (but noticed most of them did not have the nose part and were broken), gloves, and ear plugs. We did have to store our other items in a locker, which the front desk had a key for. They did not tell us anything else, such as recommending to have longer sleeves on, which direction to break items in (to avoid pieces and fragments hitting you or others, etc). There wasn't much of a safety breakdown other than to not hit the walls and only plates can be thrown at the walls. Before you enter the room, you can "choose your weapon" which were a variety of heavy mallets (some of them broken), and 1 beat up baseball bat. I would have loved to have other options, such as smaller mallets or more baseball bats (in case you're not strong enough to swing the heavier hammers they have). I help my husband with his junk removals at times, so I can use tools just fine, but someone who might not have upper arm strength might have a hard time carrying things. INTO THE RAGE/SMASH ROOM EXPERIENCE: Our room hardly felt like it had the items it said it would include. Most of the items seemed smashed already since there were a ton of pieces and fragments everywhere, items were dented or broken in already, and it didn't seem like the room was set up as intended. Not too sure who's smart idea was to add a tire but I would NOT recommend hitting that unless you want your hammer or baseball bat to fling back. The experience itself was alright, but it could have been better considering how much you spend. We also were given a speaker to play music on, but the volume was SO low. We asked for another one, but that one hardly had any sound either. There is also a phone mount inside the rooms, but it films at a weird angle where it doesn't get the entirety of the room. Also, of course I got cut :P It was my fault since I decided to smash a plate with a baseball bat and a piece grazed my arm. However, when I asked for the front desk for some band-aids, they only had smaller ones and small alcohol pads. My arm was bleeding a ton, and it wasn't until our time was up that my friends had to drive me to a local Walgreens to get wipes and bigger band-aids. For a rage/smash room, you should expect to have some accidents and to be well prepared for that, but it didn't seem like they had proper first aid (let alone napkins of that sort to stop the bleeding). I'm all for rage/smash rooms to take out some anger or to relieve stress, but definitely at a different location. It seems like a money grab here and the experience was a bit lack luster.

They have a bulls eye board (which is a little worn and harder to land things on) and a tic tac toe board you can throw at, which is fun. There are a variety of axes and also knives for throwing, which was great! They provide gloves and there is also protective eyewear you can use. The smash room is bigger than I expected, and they provide glass bottles and old tech like printers and speakers for you to smash. You can pick out of an array of weapons like crowbars and baseball bats and golf clubs. Some of the baseball bats are pretty used up and broken. I also thought there'd be more PPE like coveralls or masks or something. There were helmets provided and gloves and eyewear. I was a little worried about the rest of the face. We did wear long sleeves and long pants, which was recommended and a good idea.

They smoke their turkey in house apparently, and you definitely got that smokey flavor from it. I ordered a Caesar Salad too as the side and it was delicious. A properly made Caesar Salad that you can still taste the anchovies in the dressing. Minus a star because our waiter kept forgetting things, whether it was one or two sets of utensils, one or two waters, one or two straws, he kept having to come back and forth from the kitchen which is kind of a far walk in the establishment (on opposite ends from our table, really). Also I would've appreciated if they had mentioned to us to book the games in advanced before it became all sold out. We had a big party and the least they could've done is to foresee that we would potentially like to play some bocce ball or whatnot after and ask us about it.

This review is about the food. OMG. What a pleasant surprise! You expect "okay" food - this was WAY better than OK. This was fantastic. I had the ahi fish tacos - a must order. Light and airy shell with a tasty ahi mix insert. Could very well be the best fish taco I've had - it's not your traditional "here's some tuna and cabbage in a corn tortilla" taco and that's a great thing. It's unique and amazing. Our friends split a pizza and salad and raved about how perfect the pizza was. They wanted a crispy crust and got what they wanted. My wife ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer in her crafty way to embellish her beef hamburger with bacon. She asked medium rare. She got medium rare. Very enjoyable. Our service was beyond great. It wasn't super busy and often the staff gets distracted when it's not busy - in this case our service was perfect. Da Boccery ambiance is obviously linked to all the entertainment that's there but the tables are nicely separated from the courts and simulators, and even during bocce or the simulator, there are comfortable couches and tables if you want to eat there - we did drinks there, then ate in the more "restaurant" area of the place. We will absolutely be going there just for the food and that says a lot.

On a recent Saturday morning, my wife and I joined a small group of others in an archery class at Backroom Archery-Turra's. We entered through the retail shop, where that was filled with all kinds of archery paraphernalia that I had no idea about, and we were escorted through a back door to a big room-- the range. Our husband and wife team provided safety information and then handed out bows. They worked step by step to help us learn body positions with the bow that would help us become successful archers. Then we practiced launching some 8 arrows down towards the targets. Many of our arrows missed their target-- some sliding down the floor and others striking the thick padded blanket at the end of the room. After each volley (?) of arrows, they would go over another new technique to refine our posture, and each time our accuracy improved. By the end of our class, they had us pin a balloon to the target. I'm still impressed that I was able to pop the balloon two separate times (when the range was clear, we would all walk down the range and collect our arrows and get set for the next round). It was a fun way to spend the morning and for me, quite satisfying. I now have a lot of respect for those Olympic archers-- and Katniss Everdeen. My only suggestion is to wear long sleeves if it's a cool morning. The range room is a big space with a concrete floor and was a little cool. I've recommended the experience to friends and look forward to returning someday-- will be a great activity on a rainy day.
