That was our night at Gallagher's in Slidell. We started like locals do: I had the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, while my grandmother went straight for the turtle soup. Both bowls hit the table with the kind of depth you only get when somebody's been stirring that pot with love, patience, and a wooden spoon seasoned by a hundred Sundays. That gumbo had the holy trinity preaching, and that turtle soup could have converted a non-believer. Then came the knockout round. For me: an 11 oz filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes. For my grandmother: pampano fish with mirliton stuffing. Now listen, I've had a lot of steaks in my life. But this filet? This filet was different. This filet was butter-kissed, seared on a 500-degree plate, and cooked so perfectly it practically sang "When the Saints Go Marching In" with every bite. Melt-in-your-mouth good, eyes-roll-back-in-your-head good. I would've licked the plate clean, but with 500 degrees of molten butter, I'd have left Gallagher's looking like a crawfish boil accident victim. Worth it? Maybe. The pampano and mirliton stuffing? Out. Of. This. World. Seasoned like somebody's MawMaw was back there in the kitchen making sure you didn't leave without remembering what real Louisiana food is supposed to taste like. And then there was Desiree Faith. Let me be clear: the food at Gallagher's was phenomenal, but she was the reason the night became unforgettable. Desiree doesn't just serve. She elevates. Went to dinner here last night with my family, overall the food was good but not exceptional. Nothing ordered or eaten was particularly note worthy. Very similar menu to many other restaurants in the new orleans area. It was all just fine to good, use that info how you will. This is a great place to eat if you're not an adventurous eater I guess. The service and atmosphere was in my opinion the biggest disappoint. Our server was very nice but all the support staff were just kinda there. They didn't really clear any dirty dishes off our table or bring us new silverware. Very little to no table maintenance what so ever. Additionally since this is a restaurant that doesnt take the order at the beginning of the dinning experience our already very crowded table had lots of superfluous menus getting in the way of our beverages and appetizers. Also Our waiter didn't present the wine as they should, instead just plopping it on the table and walking away for a moment, he did grab a chiller which is nice but it would of been good for them to go full circle. Finally our server took a dessert order from us, and that order hit the table when no one had silverware or share plates ready to go, but one of our shared sides that we hadn't touched in 20 minutes was at the table still so thats good. When i asked for spoons and plates for the table the support staffer gave me a stack of both so that I could distribute them to everyone at our table, nice. Just really unpolished service overall, especially for the price and level of service intended at this place. Another strike for me was the interior. While i found the tables set up fairly well, i think the overall mood of the restaurant is kinda killed by the lighting. I found it to be on the brighter side and just kind of gave a hospital feel to what I'm sure was intended to be an intimate experience. Additionally I found it strange that they had so many tvs in the restaurant, most fine dining establishments do not rely on that to draw couples in, but we were sat near the bar so I guess thats the excuse. Overall: Food 3.5/5 good but not mind blowing, its southern cuisine, similar to so many other restaurants in the new orleans area. Service 2.5/5 well intentioned but needs a lot of polish. With the bright lighting in the restaurant you'd think they would be able to clearly see what a table needs but i guess thats too much to assume. For the price point of the food I expect a lot more out of service. A lot more high touch service would increase the PPA drastically for everyone here. Atmosphere 2/5 very little to no vibes. Hospital lighting should go away in favor for a darker interior with warmer light accents spread throughout. read more

Please find someone who knows how to pick the steaks you're serving and someone who knows how to cook them. My steak was tough cooked med well which tells me it's the quality of the meat. The restaurant is clean and has a beautiful setup. A romantic vibe for couples. The hostess greeted us with a smile and seated us right away. The server was not very friendly, she didn't smile, she was short with her responses, and she was almost walking away before we could ask a question. We had the fleur-de-lis shrimp, now that was delicious, I could definitely order those to go. My husband had the lamb and quail. He said the quail tasted kinda fresh, but he enjoyed the lamb. We had the creamy spinach and sweet potato cassarole. Nothing to shout out about, just ok. So ny husnad got his ooey gooey with ice cream with a candle. Started with old fashions and they were really good. Had a wedge salad that was pretty good and a nice size. I ordered the red fish Diane. Not a very thick piece of fish and it was covered with crab meat. It just wasn't that tasty. I kept thinking the crab tasted like tuna out of a can. Husband had the double cut pork chop. It was pretty good. We shared some mashed potatoes and they were ok. The inside is a very nice white table cloth setting and we loved the music playing overhead. Extra measures were taken for the safety of the patrons and staff during the pandemic pandemonium. Kudos to your team! Perfect Martini to begin, hot French bread with butter, Tuna stack (seared) that was absolutely delightful. Almost no one knows how to make this particular cocktail unless they are a specialty craft cocktail bar - and Gallagher's was no exception. But I don't count that against anyone since it's fairly obscure. I showed the bartender the recipe and he happily obliged and, actually, came up with a pretty good rendition. I didn't taste the cake but the reports from the field were that it was "very very good". Nice atmosphere, love the circular bar, friendly staff. Will have to come back and have a proper meal as several interesting dishes were paraded past that looked pretty inviting..... 3 August 2020 - came back for a meal with two of my sisters and my brother in law for a birthday. My husband wanted another drink from the bar and we had to wait forever for our waitress to come back to our table. And AGAIN after our dinner we had to wait forever for our waitress to return. What a wonder experience we had at this restaurant. A nice cross of causal yet formal dining. I would say this is the best steakhouse I have ever been to in Louisiana!
