"Gimme three steps, gimme three steps, mister Gimme three steps towards the door?" (Lynyrd Skynyrd) After we had our hardwood floors and steps sanded and refinished, we decided to pretty up those steps with a carpet runner, which explains why we visited Galaxy Discount Carpet Store today. That decision ended up being a FIVE STAR experience. Their two floor showroom is just incredible! Sample boards, rolls stacked on the floor in rows, area rugs hanging from the ceiling, gorgeous stuff everywhere. We met with Charlie and explained to him what we were looking for. He said that staircase runners can either be pre-manufactured in big rolls, or custom cut from carpeting meant for rooms. We knew we wanted a runner in some shade of gray to complement our wall color, and decided on a carpet runner to be cut from a big grayish roll and then finished with black binding along the edges, to complement the black stair rail and contrast with the white stair risers. It was installed 72 hours later, and that was pretty amazing in it's own right. Communication with Galaxy was great. Charlie was a dream to work with, the installers called us the day before install to confirm the date and time window, and the van with two workers arrived as scheduled mid-afternoon and did a neat professional job on the install. Charlie's price was $140 less than one we had from a flooring company out in our neck of the woods, and the carpet quality was better at Galaxy. Everything went well, and the stairs look great! read more

Jose helped me from the moment I walked in the door to selecting the right carpet, setting up an inperson visit for measurements and seeing Alejandro through the process of install. We are satisfied customers! They are now starting the process to come to my home for flooring and carpeting in my home. Thank you Pastor Suzanne read more

Stopped in with all the info needed for our home carpet & found a carpet that was comparable to Lowes. Jonathen & Omar both said that they would match & beat my price with Lowes if the the carpet was close or the same. well when I sent them the info the Lowes was 97.5oz. face weight & theirs was 100oz. Then Lowes came with 25yr limited & theirs was only a 15yr limited. All in all they were spot on. They came back with a $3000 difference greater than. So then they ask me to get them a sample in order to match it. I did one better as I sent them pics of the carpet display along with the Lowes print out of the pricing from Lowes & they verified all a;ong with the 25% discount Lowes was offering and then they came back with a lower price, BUT still $1,200 more than. When I asked them why the difference, they said I had to have a purchase order & they would then be able to meet it... SHOPPER BEWARE!!! They wasted over 2 weeks of our time and Omar who claims to be the owner would not answer any phone calls or emails...SHOPPER BEWARE!!! read more

Run away FAST! FAST! FAST! Decided to give galaxy discount carpeting a try after the installation of a family member carpet. To be perfectly honest had three rooms, a TV room and two bedrooms carpeted, and had absolutely no problem with the removal of the old carpet and the installation of the new. Decided to use them for laminate flooring for living room and hallway. what a mistake. I would assume people who do this for a living and after having someone out to the house, should know that when going from tile flooring to a lower floor a transitional threshold is needed. After flooring was installed they just put a vinyl strip over where the tile ended with a quarter inch space to flooring. And this was after we specifically said we wanted the threshold to match the new flooring. Call the store and they said they would rectify the situation. I guess their idea of rectifying the situation is making it worse. After the installers left, there was literally a black, sticky substance not only all over the new flooring but all over my kitchen tile. My husband and I are assuming it was a product that he used to put the new flooring down but didn't bother to clean up. Molding cuts were off in a few places and as our fireplace Is level with floor they never bordered it. They took off our hot water radiator covers and put them back upside down and forced them into place and threw away a endcap on one. Our driveway was loaded with nails from old carpeting that WE had to clean up. We ended up with a flat tire on one of our cars. Manger came out and ACTUALLY said some people like a space between tile and new flooring. He offered us a new area rug for living room which we do not want from them. Came out 2 days later with threshold that didn't match and same manager said person who got it "must be color blind." They also put border around fireplace floor that was off an inch and a half. Response was his glasses were upside down. Also endcap for radiator was too big. The fix for fireplace border does not meet and the endcap was cut to fit....which it doesn't. Plus the edges were all jagged. Will end up using other company to fix all thresholds and might use endcap for slitting my wrist for using this company! read more

Kudos to Galaxy Carpet for their professional, courteous and efficient installation team but especially to the salesperson Jose, who walked me through the entire process, was able to offer perfect choices that fit the look and style needed and followed-up with me, too, going above & beyond. Great customer service, smooth and quality install. Zero complaints with the process from start to finish. Would absolutely recommend!

I was pleasantly surprised I never went to a carpet store like this before, it was easy w the salesman / manager. I picked out a roll of carpet the next day same guy came over and measured and it was installed perfectly within a Week I'm writing this about four months later and I'm very happy with the service and the quality of the carpet read more

Needed new carpeting in two rooms but in addition we needed the squeaks taken out of the sub floors and the furniture moved. The installers deserve high praise not only for their fabulous install but they made sure every squeak was gone before laying the padding and the carpet. All of this in less than three hours. Great experience at Galaxy from purchase (they really help you watch your dollars) to installation. We are very happy. read more

There is so much to be said about the level of service this store has. The first time we went into Galaxy we were there to look for a unique carpet for our home theater. Omar gave us his best advice, and with their extensive selection he helped us zero in on the perfect fit! The purchasing, scheduling, and installation process was as smooth as can be, and the carpet is absolutely seamless. The guys who came to install were friendly, and worked efficiently and very neatly. We could not be happier with the result. The second time I went in looking for a stair runner that I had found online in the U.K through a Pinterest search. I wanted to ask Omar first if he had it at his store instead because of my positive previous experience with Galaxy. He was very helpful in finding a bunch of similar options to what I had found, but I was so set on that exact one that I purchased it overseas. Even though I didn't find the runner at his store, he had a guy at my house ready to install it the day after it came in the mail. Again, two friendly workers came in and executed an incredibly seamless installation. Omar once again followed up with my level of satisfaction. I would highly recommend Galaxy for any carpeting job. Big or small they are well priced, and consistent. Galaxy- thank you so much for everything. You have a client for life in us. read more

Galaxy is awesome! I came in to buy and bind two carpet remnants for my new apartment and Spencer was super nice and answered all of my questions... he never tried to up sale me and, in fact, helped me stay under budget by suggesting items in my price range and even threw in a discount! I highly recommend Galaxy for carpet! read more

The Neighbors and Friends Facebook page for my town was singing the praises of Galaxy Carpet recently so when I found myself in the market for updated wall to wall carpet for one room in my house I checked them out and I'm happy I did. My wife and I were pleasantly greeted by Omar the manager and what I liked about him was he immediately tried to DOWN SELL us (when does that ever happen?) and took us to the lower level where they have miles of carpet in stock. Unfortunately there wasn't anything down there that fit our needs (we needed a specific color). Omar took us back upstairs and started bringing over samples and really listening to what we were looking for. In less than 5 minutes we hit the jackpot and found exactly the right carpet. The advantage to buying their in-stock carpet is they can install it the next day but what we bought needed to be ordered (fine by me). They called me 2 weeks later to install it. Their installation guys were far from chatty but they did the job well and I'm thrilled with the carpet, the price and definitely the service. read more

Went here because it's been in business in the same location for many years. Figured TT et must be good. Looked them up on BBB (they aren't accredited by BBB but they have a A+ rating) and decided to go. People there attentive without being pushy, knowledgeable, & friendly. Price was as expected and they had the carpet we were looking for. They came out the needy day, measured, & calculated the cost. We agreed & scheduled the install date. Due to issues on our side we had to reschedule twice - no problem - one simple phone call and it was rescheduled. Day before they called to confirm & answer any y last-minute questions. The next day they showed up, came in, went to work, and installed tHe carpet. It was all done on time, looked great, and they cleaned up/vacuumed. Very impressed. read more

Shopped for carpeting on 2 staircases and couldn't have been happier with the selection and the service Tom gave us! So informative and helpful. He even gave us samples to bring home for one of the stairscases. I put a deposit on the other carpet because I was afraid to lose it! Can't wait for them to do the job! read more

Great prices. Great service. Great installation. I recommend highly. Don't waste time searching for other options.

Galaxy has the absolute best prices in the Hartford area for carpets and rug products. I have bought numerous loose rugs over the past 7 years here, and have had carpeting replaced in 2 rooms in my home (within the past 5 years). After years of tough, daily wear from my family and dog, the carpets have held up beautifully. I actually bought rugs here in my apartment and student days, so that gives you an idea of how extremely affordable this place is. When carpeting was installed in my house, the installers were professional, hard working and FAST. I've never seen someone lay carpet so quickly, yet so neatly. I am assuming this is because they are kept hopping all day, every day and are very practiced at it. The way to save the most money, even at this super cheap store, is to look through their prebound remnants and precut carpets. These are in random sizes and colors/grades, but if you look through them odds are you'll find something that will work for you. There is nothing wrong with them, you just never know what you are going to get. It seems that every time I've looked in that part of the store, it's a multitude of shades of beige and then a few funky colors. If you are looking to install carpeting or need a new throw rug, this is the best place to shop. read more

We have been using Galaxy for years within the entire family! Our basement was having some issues with moisture and we were worried about installing carpet but they have a solution for EVERYTHING! The customer service is just amazing, every time we have a project and are indecisive. I know it is family owned, which makes my husband and I love it even more. We have area rugs, wall to wall carpeting and the quality is just unbeatable. The installment was easy and I've never had a more professional or cleaner company come into my home and clean up they way they did when they were finished with installing. Styles of carpet we thought we wouldn't be able to afford were made available to us-right within our budget. The staff there is always helping us with design or answering any questions we have about what project we can do next. Just installed a beautiful carpet in our grandmother's home and it turned her outdated, cold home into a cozy, welcoming place for the grandchildren to play! I ALSO love that they offer so much more than rugs and carpet. Next project... tile for our downstairs bathroom! read more

Don't buy carpet here unless you want a horrible job and damaged baseboards. We had three rooms and a staircase carpeted. We had professional painting completed of the baseboards two weeks prior to the carpet installation. Every single room has damage to the baseboards and the entire wall heading up the staircase needs to be repainted on both sides. We also paid extra to have the squeaky floor boards screwed down. I still have squeaky floors in every room and I am not a heavy person. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

We had several rooms of carpet installed at my mother's condo on March 30, 2018 and I am beyond disappointed with the final product for upwards of $3,000. The final product is so bad, we will have to have it removed and reinstalled or replaced at our own expense. We allegedly purchased a name brand carpet (with free padding) but it is so thin I can feel the subfloor underneath, making it very uncomfortable to walk on. I called management and was told it was not worth it to reinstall. I wonder if they would take the same position if it was their home? In addition, the installers tried to remove the excess carpet without our permission. Given this observation, I question whether the installers actually installed the padding wall to wall. I purchased carpet at Lowe's for my house at a similar price with a free install promo (around the holiday). I chose an entry level product at Lowe's but the quality was significantly higher than Carpet Galaxy. Buyer beware - don't make the same $3,000 mistake we made! read more

Have been shopping for an indoor/outdoor carpet for the concrete slab on my 3 season porch for a while, we had a couple of quotes from the big box stores but never followed through with them as there were too many unanswered variables. On a whim a few Saturday's ago we stopped into Galaxy in Newington. in under an hour, we walked out with a carpet choice, an appointment for installation that Thursday and the bonus was that the price was $400+ less than the other quotes we had received! The installer arrived as promised, install went smoothly and quickly and he cleaned up after himself. He did a fantastic job. I highly recommend Galaxy. read more

Amazing store with amazing staff, very knowledgeable with plenty to chose from. Highly recommended

I initially thought it was great, but our salesperson, Tom gave us a quote in store that was significantly less than the actual cost once he sent the contract. BEYOND HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! Issue #1 We had our rug installed a little over a year ago and almost immediately it started getting pulls in it. Turns out it's was a manufacturer defect. So no problem, they said they would replace the carpet for no cost. Day of the carpet reinstall comes and we have our entire first floor in the front yard and stuffed into our kitchen. What do you know, they didn't show up! So me and my buddy, who was nice enough to take time out of his schedule, moved everything back into the house. After being on the phone all day with these people trying to figure out when they are going to come out, they decide that the best thing to do would be to come out the next day (no kidding). They show up the next day replace the rug and after they leave I noticed that they ran the rug right over one of the heat vents. They come out again the next day and cut out the vent but guess what? They don't know where the vent is. So now I have a wide open hole in my dining room floor. After the installers walked around my house going through our things searching for the missing vent for a half hour, they left. Still have a hole in the floor. The vents are at least 25 years old and cannot be matched. When I told the woman on the phone that they need to either find the vent or replace the entire first floor so that they match, I was told that the installer said that he left it in the kitchen and it's not their problem. Issue # 2 They put a seam in the middle of my 9' hallway. Not where the rooms meet. We were told that seams are unavoidable and that there is nothing she could do. After I sent her a picture she called me back and told me that she spoke to the installer and that in fact he did make a mistake and that it is 100% their fault and that they are again replacing the hallway carpet and possibly the entire first floor again if the carpet doesn't match right. So here I am with an install that is worse than the first time, a hole in my floor with no resolution, and the horrible thoughts of these people entering my house and installing this carpet for a third time. The money you save on the carpet is not worth the hassle with dealing with these crooks. read more

I can't tell you how pleased I was with my installation yesterday . William arrived on time and did a wonderful job. I do feel he went above and beyond , I had a 12 fot California closet that he had to move he worked so hard one of the pieces was a double but he gently took the entire thing apart . My daughter saw how hard he was working and suggested throwing that section away. He asked that we just hold onto the sides. To make a long story short he got it back together better than before. My carpet looks amazing and I can never thank you enough . Just last Saturday New England floor was surpose to put the carpets down when they didn't show after the 2 nd time your man came running to an old lady's defense quickly came over . I was so lucky to have GALAXY instead of National floor / Empire. My thanks to all. Diane Perron read more

I bought the deepest discounted off white berber carpet from Galaxy when I bought my condo in 2007. I didn't expect the carpet to last beyond 5 years, BUT the carpet is still on my floor and except for a few snags and light stains it still looks pretty good. Excellent! We moved into a new home and had limited time before the movers arrived. Vinny worked with us to select carpet and came out to the house the same day to measure. Our install was scheduled within a few days and we were able to have the carpet installed prior to move-in day. A few weeks after install I noticed that the seem was visible in one of the rooms. We called Galaxy and a crew came out the same week to correct the seem. While the crew was in the house, they asked if there were any other problems. At that time I noticed an issue in a second room. Although it was the end of the work day, the crew took care of the second room immediately. What a great experience from the store, to installation, to repair. read more

Galaxy Carpet is a family business that values its customers and reputation. I went in looking for some large area rugs for classrooms in our elementary school as we had undergone an asbestos abatement and all of the carpeting had been removed. I had a kitchen, small hallway and a half bath install done with vinyl sheet flooring 2 months ago in a still vacant house I am reconditioning. Floors looked good on day of install and have had little traffic during this time and still vacant. Recently I noticed a razor cut mark across my hallway and continues on a now second sheet in the bathroom and under my toilet which I reinstalled right away when the mark was not apparent.. The marks align and are a total of 5-6 feet in length! It slowly became visible as dirt from foot traffic made it's way into the cut. So this appears to have been on the sheet already or done by the installer. I called MJ the manager to come out .he never did and sent another guy that only insinuated that I did something to it. the house is still vacant and the cut lines up in two rooms separated by a wall!! SO Buyer beware! Get down on all fours and inspect the job CAREFULLY. THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEY'RE WORK. MJ offered to "work" with me by requoting the job and beating the price from a couple months ago.. if Edgar does the install, be particularly careful to fully inspect the work and floor surface for not so apparent issues read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. We hired Galaxy to do all the flooring in our new construction home. The tile was to be installed first and was done horribly. Nothing was square and the lines were off by a half an inch all over the room. When we called to complain, we were told the installer would come back out to look and once he did we were told "it's not that bad". I couldn't get the sales guy to come see for himself, so my husband drove to the store with photos to show them. Their response at that point was "wow". Next, the carpet. They didn't carpet the landing to my family room that my builder and I both explicitly stated we wanted carpeted. They tried to tell us we told them NOT to carpet it. Why anyone would want a plywood landing when everything was carpeted is beyond me, and if they think I said that and as the "flooring professionals" they claim to be- didn't question that- then that is a whole different problem. When I asked for them to send an installer back out to complete the job, the installer didn't even show up until well after the 4 hour window I was given. All the time, frustration and missed hours of work dealing with this company wasn't worth the small savings we got with their in-stock special. My advice- go with a GOOD company and save yourself the NIGHTMARE of dealing with Galaxy. I will NEVER give them another cent of my money, and will warn all my friends and family to do the same. read more

I was recently up in Connecticut to see my folks and decided to help them order carpeting for their home. They had gone first to Empire Carpeting but it felt very shady to me, especially after reading the contract that had no yardage or price per square foot. They also told my folks that the carpet would "normally" cost $11,500 but that they would give it to them for $5700. My sister who was there at the time asked that they come down to $5000 at which point the sales guy said he "would have to make a phone call". So let me get this straight, you can automatically reduce your price by nearly $6000 but you "have to make a call" to reduce it $700?? Really?? Anyway, I wasn't comfortable so I YELPED and found Galaxy. Read the reviews and I have to say they were SPOT ON!! Vinny was amazingly helpful and honest. The crew that came out to install were nothing short of AMAZING! They were on time, very efficient, polite, and did a terrific job. DEFINITELY a 5 star operation! read more
