This place has a definite vibe that when you are feeling, it is awesome! Be forewarned that if you don't like noise, or crowds, or confined spaces, that this may not be your vibe at the moment, but I definitely spent a lot of time in my younger years in loud, dark, packed venues. It is a definite hole in the wall-type diner, but the wood was pretty darn good! I had a heaping plate of the "appetizer" nachos and could not finish them. The chili was tasty, ample toppings. Very tasty. My kiddos had cheese fries (good), the kids cheeseburger meal served in a cute futuristic tray with fries and applesauce, and hubs had a big ol' club sandwich. The kids burger was good, I forget how good burgers taste when they are ACTUALLY cooked with fire and not just microwaved like some fast food places... The club was FANTASTIC. It's hubs' go-to order pretty much everywhere and most of them are pretty standard: a tasty classic. This had THICK sliced turkey, swiss and cheddar cheeses, crisp bacon... That thick cut meat really makes the difference so it holds up against the other components of the sandwich. All in all, it was a good meal that we all enjoyed. I had a hankering for onion rings and decided to head to Galaxy diner! Galaxy diner has all the things you expect in a diner like sticky floors, cozy booths and lots of fried food! They up the anti with their alien/outer space theme. I decided to order a classic burger and onion rings. For my meal. The burger was ok. Slightly over cooked and lacked flavor. The onion rings satisfied my craving but were just ok. Overall I think the major draw of this diner is the location, the theme and the fact that you can order breakfast all day long!! We really, really liked this place. It reminded me of all the retro dinners I went to in NY in the 80s and 90s. It's a hip lay back vibe. The back was cold as heck, think morgue! This is the first time we've gotten into Galaxy Diner after trying to go many times before, it's always so busy, which is well warranted because it would've been worth it. We got there when they first opened, sat down and got some nachos for an appetizer and they were definitely loaded. Then I got the Philly style hoagie and that was good too. All the sandwiches come with a fried pickle, which is a good touch, also a side of your choice. Everything came out pretty quickly and the service was also great. I do enjoy this divey hotspot in the trendy Carytown neighborhood. Breakfast is served all day long. Fried pickles are devoured by all. Galaxy Diner has a varied menu with decent prices. It gets 4 or 5 stars for atmosphere - the place is really cool and has fun decor. 5 stars also for service. The guy at the front sat us immediately and our server - "Strongberry Paincakes" - was awesome. The food itself is alright, not bad at all. I hate the strawberry covered pancakes and my girlfriend had the French toast. Great place to grab late night breakfast. The coffee, I'm sorry to say, was really bad. Way too damn thin. I'm not trying to be harsh but when you go to a diner you want a good cup of coffee. I actually ordered an Irish coffee at first and it was so watery and gross I couldn't finish it (but was still charged for it). Then I ordered just a regular coffee and realized it just wasn't brewed well at all. Overall it's a great, cool-looking place for a late night dinner or breakfast. Galaxies sound cool but then you remember that there are billions of them in the universe and they aren't that unique - you know, like this place. Everything on the menu is fried with options that sound like you're eating carnival food. It makes food trucks at the sketchy amusement park they throw up in the Food Lion parking lot seem cosmopolitan. Think French toast as if your 8 year old child has prepared it for you - Wonder Bread dipped in an egg and served flaccid and flavorless. I got a chicken salad melt that was literally covered in black char because they f-ing grilled the chicken salad on a flat top griddle. What the what? Move over deep fried Oreos, make way for deep fried chicken mother-loving salad. The service is well rehearsed but understaffed - despite all the colored lights in the decor the place seems glum. Galaxy Diner is a neighborhood gem. The food is great when you're looking for a quick, cheap bite and a drink. I'd compare it to Chilis or Red Robin, but better priced. I love that every meal comes with a fried pickle-- it's truly the best part. I also really enjoy their boozy shakes. I came here for a late night snack with a bunch of friends and the staff were so nice and friendly to our large group. The orders came out quick and were hot! I definitely recommend sharing some of the orders and eating family style, cause the portions were larger. read more

If i could give zero stars, I would! Customer service was terrible from the moment we entered the building not to note it reeks of urine along with table and chairs being sticky. My siblings and I were in need of a quick bite and ATTEMPTED to eat at this establishment but were quickly turned off by the incredibly rude wait staff, who felt it necessary to treat us as though we were incompetent. The waitress was very nasty, and could not answer our question without an undeserved attitude, and even after being patient and kind with her she continued to be disgusting in her tone and words. I would not recommend eating here unless you enjoy being berated and spoken down too. read more

One of the best diners I've been to in Richmond. They don't have the morning hours of a traditional diner - definitely geared more towards the later crowd. There is not a ton of seating inside so it is best to get there early. The space atmosphere is definitely a little cheesy but also gives character and isn't over the top. I started my breakfast off with a vanilla milkshake and had no regrets! Truly delicious and a good size portion with the refill container. Ordered the pancakes with sausage and apples, and was able to substitute hash browns in place of my 2 eggs for no additional cost. Overall, the meal tasted great! The hash browns were well done just as I asked, and the sausage was delicious. The apples were warm and were a nice little dessert after the meal. The one negative was that my pancakes were definitely overdone- you can see it in the pictures and the taste followed that for the parts that were more done. Overall I had a good experience here. I would return for breakfast and probably try other meals here as well - every dessert on the menu looked delicious. read more

We had a great experience for our first time yesterday. I had the Caesar wrap with tater tots as the side and their Oreo milkshake. Both items were delicious. Especially the milkshake. My boyfriend had the hoagie with chili cheese fries as the side. He said his food was delicious as well. I forgot what my friend but she loved her food too. They had a lumberjack and the toasted almond liquid desserts as well. My friend did get the fried brownie bites. They love the lumberjack and fried brownie bites. The toasted almond was okay. All in all, we had a great time. Thank you for a great experience. Also, our server was so nice and she did an awesome job. What a disgusting wait staff, and a disgusting atmosphere. My family and I went to this restaurant for a relatively fast bite to eat, because we could not find anywhere else that was open. Immediately we were greeted by an environment that smelled of urine, and waitresses who clearly did not want our business. When attempting to clarify if their 6 or more can not split a check policy applied to infants and children (who were the predominant party) the waitress treated us as though we were stupid, ignorant, and less than. We attempted to be kind when discussing this with her but she responded with such hostile nastiness that we chose to leave. I would not recommend eating here unless you want to be treated unkindly. I've been here before and it hasn't been too bad, I never had to bad of an experience. You would think while COVID is still around and alive they would take extra precautions. I walk in to a busy entrance at the door, where the seemed to be manager yelled "everyone outside," so we waited outside and then he calls us in and he just threw the silverware and menus on the table and walked away back to what he was doing. I'm sitting there about to look at the menu and I grab my silverware and I look at it, I'm like.... "what is that!" My napkin on the silverware was dirty! I kindly asked for a new set of silverware and then I continued to open my menu, first page.....There was a full piece of hair in it!!! I could not believe it! Was in town visiting and the kids wanted breakfast for dinner so ended up picking up food to-go from Galaxy Diner. The good news are the portions--you get a lot of food for the money. My steak and eggs were good--they were exactly as I expected, nothing more, nothing less. My wife's corned beef hash was similarly what you'd expect but it wasn't crisped up enough for her liking. Again, as far as diner food goes, it was fine. The real let down came from the pancakes. My kids eat pancakes all the time, nearly every morning, and given the chance they'd probably replace lunch and dinner with them, too. These pancakes, however, remained untouched after two bites, even from our younger, less discerning son. At first we assumed they were being picky but when we tasted them, we understood. I'd never had pancakes like these--they were very eggy, almost like thick crepes, with a rubbery texture. For the kids to leave pancakes behind speaks badly of the flapjack-ologist. Fortunately we had also gotten some wings and fries, which were good and both kids enjoyed those. The fries were just okay, but that's more of an issue with fries not traveling well no matter what. There are a lot of good food options in Carytown, but I wouldn't make an effort to return here for breakfast or brinner but would be willing to try their other offerings. read more

Tourist trap style restaurant. Foods trash, service was ok and everything is dirty and/or sticky. Had the joy of watching a lady take a keg to the back waiting for the disgusting bathrooms and was hit with a wave of flies as the back door opened. Massive amount of exposed wires and palpable dust. The waitress was nice and helpful but otherwise there isnt a single redeeming feature. Burgers weren't cooked to order, condiments on the table were scary dirty, my kids waffle with an oreo (not an oreo but a knockoff) was rough. Tater tots were alright. The best part was watching the confusion unfold with what the jetson's themed bathrooms were gender-wise. We came for the nostalgia and it holds up. I am glad that they have been able to remain in business for the last year. We came on a busy busy Sunday where they were still only allowed to be at half capacity and were able to get a table within 20 minutes. Restaurant was clean, and food was quick, super quick! A Richmond staple. It's been around since 1999 and located conveniently in Carytown (right next to my boyfriend's tattoo shop). He had been begging me to go for a year, and we finally did. The menu is PACKED with diner style burgers, hotdogs, sides, sandwiches, and milkshakes. I LOVED the options!! It's exactly what you crave late at night when you want to be bad. Doesn't hurt that they have $1.50 PBRs! My boyfriend had the nuclear waste burger (a burger with pineapple, chili, and cheese). I had the spicy Hawaiian (jalapeños, pineapple, pepper jack cheese). I absolutely loved it so much that I plan on going back for the rest of the menu. It's best late at night or in the morning as they also serve amazing and gluttonous breakfast!
