Great happy hour drinks deal!!! Old school diner atmosphere. Got there Friday night the place pretty much empty. The server was nice but she must been new because she wasn't sure about some menu items. Live band(2 guys with guitars)in the first bar room. This is the breakfast place. Just go. Great diner coffee, great food, and great customer service. I woke up late and wanted some breakfast. I dropped in here about 12:30pm and had an amazing waffle, eggs and hash browns. The kitchen added walnuts for me even though they weren't on the menu. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and overall, I'm not sorry I did. We arrived at around 11:00am on a Saturday morning and were promptly seated. Gailey's used to be a drugstore with a soda fountain and the room we were seated in had the original lunch counter and a very "classic diner" vibe. Our server also had that classic diner vibe. Businesslike and brusque without a lot of fawning or fakery. I mostly found it refreshing. However, I wasn't particularly pleased that when we asked for more sweetener (the basket was empty) the server simply flung a bunch of packets on the table instead of properly filling the basket. She also wasn't super attentive to refilling coffee cups. When our food arrived it was hot and tasty. I had the "Michelle" breakfast with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, and feta cheese. It was lovely and light and the sourdough toast was a nice accompaniment. I have had far better hash browns, however. My husband was brought the wrong toast, although this was quickly corrected. His omelette was fluffy and light with a hearty amount of filling. The coffee was superb. Strong and plenty of cream on the table. Overall, it was decent food, decent portions, but nothing to write home about. (Keeping in mind that we each only sampled one thing.) One thing I especially want to point out: this place is LOUD. Like so many vintage buildings it has high ceilings so the noise echoes. Probably not the best choice for a business meal or intimate conversation. Bottom line: Decent food and service. Excellent coffee. Very noisy. I could see myself going back at least once more. read more

Downtown breakfast heaven! Having lived in Springfield, MO, for nine years, I have learned where to find a good meal. When searching for breakfast, there are few places better than Gailey's Breakfast Cafe. When this place opened nearly ten years ago, it was the perfect addition to a blossoming Downtown. There were other breakfast joints surrounding the area, but not one right in the heart of it. I found myself frequenting this place as often as I could. We were down for a brief visit this past weekend, and I had to make a run to Gailey's. Frankly, not a whole lot had changed since my last visit years ago. The place was still hopping! We had to wait about fifteen minutes to be seated, but once we sat down, we were not disappointed with the service or the food. You can order a pretty creative breakfast, or if you're like me, you might go pretty straightforward. Actually, i went all out! I had the Big Boy: two pancake. two eggs, and your choice of meat. All for $5.99! It doesn't sound like much, but once those pancakes are placed in front of you, the tune changes, my friend! The sausages were so fresh, and the eggs just right. Long story short: If anyone ever asks me where the best breakfast place in Springfield is, I will always say Gailey's - for the price, for the variety, for the experience, it really is the best. And I love breakfast as much as Ron Swanson, so trust me when I say I've sniffed out all viable options around here. Let me get this off my chest first: you will probably wait if you're here on a weekend. If you have more than four people, you're DEFINITELY going to wait. Get over it before you even show up and you'll have a much better experience. Seriously, if I had a dollar for every time I've seen some impatient person blow a gasket over the half hour/45 minute wait time, I'd be able to buy my usual meal a few times over. To those people, I say go to IHOP or Waffle House, 'cause trust me, Gailey's don't need ya. BAH, humbug. That being said, I don't try to come here if I'm hungry enough to devour my own hand or if I've got an agenda. Leisure is the name of the game here and you've got no choice but to play it, unless you're here on a weekday. Okay, now on to happier discussion. I've been here a million times and I can really appreciate its vibe. The many colors of coffee mugs, the daily specials, the incredible natural light, and the politely indifferent and quiet service of folks who are far too used to people blowing gaskets on them all keep me coming back. It's the same level of quaint goodness every time. As far as food goes, I love love love getting the French Quarter. Two slices of French toast, epically good hash browns, and ham and cheese scrambled eggs make for a righteously filling breakfast, and for like $7, it ain't a bad deal at all. Sometimes I'll go nuts and get the freedom waffle (a giant waffle with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream - somewhere in the fictitious universe Leslie Knope just felt an inexplicable chill) but I mostly get the same item, though the menu is appropriately varied. The biscuits and gravy are wonderful, too, and if you can shell out the extra three bucks for a side of lox (a pile of smoked salmon), you'll be so happy. I promise. They always have a special that's a dollar off, so don't forget about that if you're feeling extra price conscious. If you want to do Gailey's right, come in on a weekend with a good friend or a book, grab a cup of coffee in the waiting area, and adopt a zen state of mind. Also, tell the hostess you're cool with being seated at the bar and you'll be on your way to breakfast heaven. On a Saturday at 11:30am, my group of five only waited 10 minutes for a table. Luck was on our side, but still, I've never understood holding it against the restaurant when there's a wait. The deck is already stacked against them once a disgruntled, hungry, hungover group sits down to eat. Something I've never seen at another breakfast spot - serve yourself coffee in the waiting area. Just keep the mug with you and they'll add the charge to your bill. That way, you can go ahead and get the caffeine drip goin'. Not to mention, it's the comfiest waiting area I've seen with plenty of seating including some big couches. I think the biggest let down was getting excited about their Sweet Browns and then realizing they were something totally different - slivers of sweet potatoes, mashed into a pile and served a lot like latkes. My eggs over medium were spot on, pancakes were pancakes, and one omelette that hit our table had us wondering if we ordered from the kid's menu. All in all, beyond friendly service, a live acoustic duo, homemade biscuits, and outrageously cheap prices are enough to make me a fan. We arrived just after they opened on a Saturday morning. They had a sign up that indicated we could seat ourselves. By the time we left the sign was gone and a line was forming. Conclusion- get there early. Our server was great. Very pleasant, friendly and attentive. Wish I could remember her name. But she's worth whatever they are paying her. I opted for a healthier omelet option. I can't recall it's name either but the thing that caught my eye was it had walnuts in it. It also had spinach, of which I'm not a big fan, but it was fine. I also ordered the raisin toast. I love raisin toast. The bread was delicious. I don't think they picked it up at Walmart. Definitely one of the better breakfast options read more

When you go to a diner for breakfast, there's a particular experience that you expect; that's exactly what you get when you go to Gailey's. Coming in off the street, one is greeted with the welcoming aroma of coffee, bacon, maple syrup and potatoes and onions cooking on the flat top. The kitchen itself is open and is located in the last of 3 dining spaces, so you can sit and watch the cooks prepare and plate various dishes. The first thing I notice is how big the portions are, and that makes me happy, because I'm hungry. Our waitress is a pleasant young woman who is very attentive. The restaurant patrons are a diverse mix of locals, black, white, young and old, business men and a biker with a tattoo of Kermit the Frog strumming a banjo. I've been a Gailey's fan since high school and back then it was the place to go. I longed to one day be old enough to drink mimosas. I've seen the staff change, come and go, and grow up to be cool people in the community. Now that I'm old enough to drink mimosas (and I guess write a Yelp review) I must say that this is a MUST VISIT for Springfield, MO, but I wish it still had that 8-year-ago charm. For a local breakfast spot, this is a gem, and a place I look forward to when I come to visit. The servers are excellent, nice and friendly, and the coffee is filled up before you can see the bottom of your mug. It's noisy in the historic drugstore side, and it's almost like you're back in the 40s watching people go by throughout their day. I will say, since about 2 years ago, the food quality has gone down. The pancakes aren't as thick, and the sausage doesn't taste as fresh. The menu has changed recently so there are more options but I almost miss the old menu. Still an awesome place to try and I recommend it to anyone visiting or just looking for a good breakfast place. read more

We ate here this morning. We checked in online - which is cool, it tells you how many are in front of you and an estimated wait time. We waited 45 min. I ordered a house Bloody Mary, which looked super cool, it had a hard boiled egg, celery, pickle, and olive. Unfortunately, it was probably the worst tasting kind I've ever tried... don't recommend that. Fortunately, their service and food makes up for it. I had one of the skillets... ah-mazing tasting. Terrific breakfast!! I highly recommend the mediterranean omelet. But the pancakes are decedent as well. Don't come TOO hungry though because there WILL be a 40+ minute wait. But they provide coffee while you do wait in their large waiting area which is another restaurant/bar. read more

amazing service from Kenan today, I mean truly outstanding he went above and beyond several times for our party of 12(to be clear we also had to be split up because they can't just seat 12 people at one table) Everyone enjoyed their food, it came out in a timely manner, and the mimosas as well. The atmosphere in this place is great. We went on a Sunday morning so it was busy but we sat at the bar. I ordered the "Pharmacist" which includes egg whites, toast, oatmeal and a fruit cup. The egg whites were just egg whites and then the toast cane with nothing so it was super bland and the same thing with the oatmeal. I think I might have just ordered the wrong thing because my food was literally all carbs with just a tiny bit of eggs so that is what the review is mainly based on. The bar was also very sticky when we sat down and we had to clean it with water ourselves so that's another reason why I didn't love this place. read more
