This place has a great calming vibe. I came in for kundalini yoga from class pass, I was greeted and shown around immediately. There are so many rooms here so a couple of us got lost looking for the salt cave room. The salt cave was kinda of small but so was the class size. They provide chairs/mats so you don't need to bring your own. Class did start late, which wasn't great since I had a busy day ahead. Also, they give you blankets to use since it gets cold but there's no laundry. Everyone just folded their blanket back and put it where they got it. I came to Gaia Nomaya for a Yelp event recently and decided to hang around and experience other parts of this beautiful wellness centered business. At first sight this place has a calming effect and atmosphere. The plants, simple wood decor and inviting interior welcomes you with open arms. I just loved this open space that seems ripe for socializing. I ordered two types of empanadas as I was told they are known for these. I got the organic chicken and the portobello mushroom. The first thing I noticed is that the crust has flaxseed and looks super healthy without any colors or preservatives. For $6.50 I found the empanadas to be a little small, and not as generous in the filling. The chicken empanadas could definitely use more chicken. The portobello mushroom filling was delicious, but I do think they need to dry it out a little bit before they fill it because biting into it, scalding hot liquid poured all over my face and that was not pleasant at all. The sauces that came on the side were absolutely delicious, the cilantro was so thick and delicious, and Herb-y and the chipotle sauce was also made very well with the smoky kick to it. Would that being said, the space is actually really beautiful and as a yoga enthusiast, I cannot wait to return here to try some of their Vinyasa yoga classes. Illuminated Natural Paradise, is the best way I can think to describe this beautiful space. As soon as I stepped into the restaurant I was transported out of Brooklyn and into a nature oasis, surrounded by plants, an array of lovely crafted tables, soothing smells and dim lighting. I was taken aback by how big the space is. There's literally an open yoga and meditation space along with salt rooms. What a combination of experiences in one space. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday and it was pretty quiet. It's a really nice place to work from, eat, drink and relax. I enjoyed the arepa con scrambled eggs, with cilantro salsa and cheese drizzled on top. The eggs were so fluffy and delicious. The arepa was fresh, warm and filling for sure. I was 1/2 way when I started to get full but I couldn't NOT eat the rest. I'm excited to go back for brunch again but with drinks this time. Also, going to try a yoga class. Gaia noMaya is located between the two main entrances of the prospect park Q station and also between two local B41 bus stops. I noticed that they reopened since they went under construction in August. They were have a concert but also mentioned food so I planned on visiting When I arrived back on a late Sunday, the doors was opened and they also had a sign that said "Palenque : wholesome Colombian food." There is outdoor seating and Inside is a bar area and seats. They have a general menu and a brunch menu. The food is available on Thursday to Sunday and the spa has a partnership with a restaurant in Williamsburg/Bushwick. I had Passionfruit juice (with the ability to add or exclude sugar). I also had pandebono waffles (cassava flour based) with passionfruit syrup. They were good and the waffle had the right balance of savory and sweet. It was a unique waffle I couldn't find just anywhere and the passionfruit juice had a smoothie like quality. They also had alcoholic beverages (mimosas) and general food like empanadas. And they have guest wifi. But the place is also a spa. There is a curtain separating the bar/restaurant with the actual spa (though you can hear the hymns from the outdoor Loudspeakers). The back is spacious with space for concerts, lockers, sauna, a salt cave and more. The bathrooms are also located in the back so I had to pass through the curtains in order to use them. The stalls were named after tarot cards, and I chose empress for reasons. But I want to try out the spa services in the future. I would try the infrared sauna to start or an official Visit to the salt cave. It is an interesting space. read more

I recently did a 10 am - 4 pm work session here and loved my visit. I started with the steak sandwich (which I had to substitute for chicken because the steak was out). It was so delicious that immediately wanted to reorder it but I decided to chill lol. I also had a green clean because they were out of cold brew but it was just okay. After being underwhelmed by and considering the cost of the green clean, I'd suggest that they make all their juices a full 20 oz (or at least 16 oz :/). When it was time to try another meal, I chose the sunflower chicken bowl and that too was just okay; however, i added the garlic spread on the bowl and that was incredible. So I guess the morale of this review is: put the spread that's on the steak sandwich on everything and you won't regret it. I'm looking forward to visiting here again to try their cocktails. I hope the drink to price ratio is better than the same ratio for juices ::fingers crossed emoji::. PS the staff was GREAT! My waitress / host was the one that convinced me not to cancel the garlic spread. Forever grateful for them. read more

I attended an off premise event and they had food and drink stations. They did not accept any cash only credit, there were however tip jars for cash tips. The prices were very high $7 for a water and $20 for their cheapest drink. After purchasing 3 different items at 3 different times i tipped in cash(i have been in service industry my life and understand this is proper) Well when they transactions were processed at my bank, they tacked on $4-6 each transaction for "tip" that i did not approve, did not agree too, and there were no signs stating they were doing this. This was a sneaky thing the service workers did hoping you wouldn't notice. When i called Gaia to see what was up, they stated, yes we do that. I was like what? It is not mandatory to tip, it is ILLEGAL to take money from someones card without their knowledge or consent. I can't get over how strange it is to have a healing space clearly meant to be inspired or pilfered off indigenous and BPOC culture but regularly have events where the audience is 90%+ white. Not to mention the staff. It's a welcoming space in the sense that transplants from flyover country and people from Park Slope won't be afraid of Flatbush (derogatory). I tried for 3 days calling them and leaving messages . They never called me back . I had to contact Groupon to cancel my purchase . Tries this place recently for the first time, and upon entering immediately felt the intention behind the decor, ambiance, and space itself! The food was solid, though I was given the wrong meal. They have a little work to do on managing the crowds w service, but just go to the bar and youll have better luck! We saw a Coltrane relative perform, and the quartet of musicians was top notch! One of the better jazz experiences I've had in 10yrs in NYC (which says a lot of a place open less than 1 year)! Also had a chance to meet and speak with one of the owners, Diana, who was very very kind- made sure my food order was discounted for the mishap and offered a free desert for our troubles!! A friend who lives in Illinois bought me a gift certificate based on the website knowing I like salt caves. My husband and I live on the other side of Brooklyn, so we drove there. The traffic and parking were difficult so we parked about 5 blocks away on Bedford Ave. The space is beautiful, impressive and clean. It's a huge space, but the way they have it designed each area feels cozy and spiritual. The salt room was welcoming and pretty, it felt air conditioned but we weren't cold. I expected lounge chairs in the salt cave, but they only had cushioned pads with backs lined up along both sides of the walls on the floor. I have knee problems so sitting on the floor and getting back up is a bit difficult for me. We were each given thick wool blankets so I placed mine behind my head, and then afterwards on the floor, which is made of loose salt pebbles, to put my hands on when it was time to stand up. There was a soothing waterfall on one end of the room and spa-like music was playing the entire time. We went on a Sunday at 1 pm and we had the room to ourselves, we didn't see any other clients there. It was a very serene, peaceful, private experience. For just $30 for 45 minutes it is the lowest priced salt cave I've been to. We would definitely come back here again. read more

If you told me I can get a beautiful escape in the middle of the loudest city know to man located within the heart of FLATBUSH, brooklyn. I'd respond no way! But Gaia Nomaya, is exactly that and more some. Whether it's to have a intimate moment amongst friends by the bar, having amazing cocktails, or sharing an appetizer. Or taking it a step further and focus on both your mental and your physical health by going pass the bar and enter their wellness center which then converts into an all-around spa including a salt cave, infrared sauna, red light therapy, steam sauna and ice plunge. I promise you, you'll have the most relaxing and healing time! I went on a Friday evening, so it was empty and I had the whole place to myself so I took advantage of the spa. I had myself a nice sweat in the steam sauna which peeks at 192. I followed by with some breathe work in the salt cave, lovely experience. The service was excellent, everyone was super kind and friendly, I had the privilege to attend a class within the salt cave, the instructor was Earleen and she was simply amazing, she made everyone feel comfortable and confident. I also had the chance to attend on a Sunday where I had to privilege to attend a class instructed by Sara, she started the ceremony singing to us, she has a beautiful voice, hands-down, very tranquil. She followed up with hosting a Cacau ceremony that simply changed my life, and now I find myself drinking cacao every single morning. She goes on to explain to everyone how the ancestors would take cacau and pretty much place it in on a pedestal to the way of life, calling it 'heart blood' which translate 'aim to open the emotional center of the body' and I love that! I loved the vibe this entire place gives you. I walk in one way but I surely walk away glowing and feeling like I was floating on air! I've lived in this neighborhood for 7 years and I make it a point to check out the new restaurants when I can. Gaia Nomaya is right off the Prospect Park stop so before going home I decided to grab a bite to eat here and check it out. From the moment I stepped in little did I know the experience I was going to have. First off this place is absolutely beautiful, when you step in you will understand! I walked up to the bar to ask about the food and drinks and luckily enough to meet the owner. I asked what things were her favorite and she suggest a pairing of the INNER SUN ELIXER as my drink, along with the INNER SUN BOWL as my entree. She made my drink and it was refreshing and delicious!! When my entree came I took a bite and was so surprised what I was eating was jackfruit. It tasted like meat and the sauce was so flavorful I never had anything like it! Then the chef came out to explain how nutritious everything was and was only 200 calories when it tasted like 1,000. It was so good I only have a picture of the bottom of my plate (that says something lol) I'm not even vegan but this place could turn me into one!! When I was done eating I was offered a tour by the hostess who is also a yoga instructor there. I was taken to a huge room where they hold everything from dance events to cacao circles, then to a lounge area, to the yoga studio with natural sunlight and gigantic gemstones taller than me, I saw the sauna, area for light therapy, and finally my favorite, the salt cave, it was like I was in another world far away from Brooklyn. You will feel like you've entered a tropical sanctuary is my best way to describe it. It's a true hidden gem in my neighborhood and I'm so thankful I can just walk here whenever I want. What a colossal disappointment. Gaia No Maya opened literally a few steps away from us, we were so excited that a full spa would be less than a minute from work to tranquility. For my 65th birthday my staff surprised me with a gift certificate for two for what they thought would be royal treatment and an amazing experience I would always remember as a highlight of my 65th birthday and the love they have for me. I've been going to spas from New York to Los Angeles and from Japan to Korea for over 40 years. It's very rare that I ever have even a slightly less than favorable experience. From the very moment my partner and I walked in and spoke with the only staff member available, the reception was not like receiving new customers who were also business owners in the neighborhood. It was more like we were not supposed to be there and not welcoming at all. The Staff member claimed to no nothing about our appointment even though it was made and paid in full days earlier. We were told to wait in the back until a manager could help us. We didn't really mind because it was my birthday and we had taken the day off, also the place is very beautiful and seemed very peaceful. 20-25 minutes later, an orange turbaned manager did come in and approached us. He was very professional but also rather cold, distant, and seemed more annoyed than appreciative to be receiving new clients. He was very direct about the time frame and how the session was supposed to go, however it did not go as he explained. It was actually a downward spiral from feeling completely relaxed, at ease and joyous, to uncomfortable, to stressed, to cringing tension. The orange turbaned manager told us that we would have 35 minutes in the salt crystal room and that he would give a knock on the door after 30 minutes to give us a 5 minute window to ready ourselves for the next section of our Gaia No Maya experience. It took me over 20 minutes to relax in the salt crystal room because of the bazar energy exchange we had with the manager. By the time I was finally able to relax in meditation, it was abruptly shattered by three very loud bangs on the door and the door being abruptly opened by the manager as we lay there half naked. It was a five star WTF moment. What happened to our 5 minute window? How did a knock become three loud bangs that sounded more like a police raid? How did a spa where one should relax and experience deeper levels of peace, generate the feelings of being in a hostile prison with a angry, unpredictable prison guard? I don't know if I felt more violated by the manager's actions or the security camera I discovered facing the shower I used. I'm not sure if I became more tense from the manager's actions, or the fact that he left the door open between the room with all the gongs that play a programed track, and the infrared sauna room which played another soundtrack that clashed constantly creating cords and dis-harmonics you would only use in a horror film. Finally it got to the point where we just had to get out of there. On the way out a very sweet staff member asked us to wait because the session comes with a free drink. She was so gracious, kind and seemed to be so concerned. We didn't want to just walk away so we waited and we noticed she went to talk to the same manager who still seemed very uptight. She came back tense, it seemed that the manager was upset that she approached him about our complimentary drinks. We had to walk right by him when we left and he never said a word nor even looked at us. But I'm very grateful for our experience because I was considering getting a Gaia No Maya spa package for my mother and daughter who both had birthdays coming up shortly after mine.
