There are incredible teachers on the staff of this studio, especially Cristina T. with her vinyasa and ropes class down in the basement studio. I've taken this class a few times on Sundays and it's mostly packed with all skill levels. She makes iyengar accessible with a wonderful sense of humor. I'm not sure how many other teachers are left like her in NYC. Her talent and some other staff members really make this studio standout in the Park Slope yoga community. Definitely worth your time!!

Everyone even the front desk and other guests were welcoming and kind. After signing in and completing the waiver, I was directed to the yoga class downstairs. Seems like there's many types of different classes offered here (see pic). Room was clean, and props were plentiful including blocks, bolsters and blankets. The instructor Holly made sure each student was comfortable and moving into poses at their own pace and level. I was a bit sore from other fitness activities and she was very accomodating and wasn't shy to help me adjust my poses for better practice. She also explained and demonstrated for the class clearly. Loved my experience here. Really recommend you come try a class or take advantage of the new student special prices.

First of all, if you haven't read my review of Jaya East, Jaya Yoga Center's sister studio, you…read moreshould start there. Moving on... I've been taking classes mainly at Jaya East, but sometimes with the timing of certain classes, I find that walking the 1.5 miles to and from this location is totally worth the trek. While equally loving and wonderful, this space also offers some of the best classes, instructors, the use of mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and yoga stuff galore. The biggest difference between the studios is the setup. Here, students are lined up against 2 long walls opposite each other so that they will have 2 people on either side of them while facing the other half of the class. I initially worried that I would make a fool of myself, since now more people would be able to see me shaking, falling over and just generally being a clutz. But, I surprisingly realized that I enjoyed this setup more than the typical way of everyone facing the front of the room. As it turns out, there is more room for the instructor to move around, making it easier to see them and making them more likely to come over and correct my shoddy poses. Come to this Jaya. Or go to the other Jaya. Whatever Jaya you choose to go to, I promise it'll be the best Jaya around.

I wish there were mirrors to help you check your position, but I guess you can't have everything. It felt like each cell in my body was being soothed - like when you take a baby in a car ride to lull them to sleep. As a dancer, music in general is healing for me. This is different than typical music. The nuanced simplicity of hearing the soothing tones of singing bowls and setting an intention prior to the sound bath exposed me to a deep level of connection with sound vibrations/frequencies and a profound connection to myself. The guidance and support TWS provided in the process was essential and helped open my awareness to healing in ways I had not known before. I can't wait to take care of myself through this ancient healing method again!

Regarding the sound healing: I'll be honest, I didn't quite know what to expect. What I first remember appreciating from the session is how empathetic, patient, and gentle Khanyini is. He took the time to both field my questions and explain the process without making it feel like an inconvenience or a chore. It really put me at ease. This, when paired with the beautiful, resonant music that seemed to move through every fiber of my being, quickly transitioned me from ease to a welcome sweet, comforting, dreamlike sleep. Afterwards, Khanyini helped me reflect on my experience (which I don't always take the time to do given how busy my life can be). The experience helped me learn more about the spiritual path that I'm on. For this I will be forever grateful, for my spiritual journey is of the utmost importance to me. Khanyini has such a big heart for people and for healing. Thank you, Khanyini, for doing all that you do to help others tread the path of discovering healing !

There are so many rooms here so a couple of us got lost looking for the salt cave room. The salt cave was kinda of small but so was the class size. They provide chairs/mats so you don't need to bring your own. Class did start late, which wasn't great since I had a busy day ahead. Also, they give you blankets to use since it gets cold but there's no laundry. Everyone just folded their blanket back and put it where they got it. When was the last time they were washed?

At first sight this place has a calming effect and atmosphere. The plants, simple wood decor and inviting interior welcomes you with open arms. I just loved this open space that seems ripe for socializing. I ordered two types of empanadas as I was told they are known for these. I got the organic chicken and the portobello mushroom. The first thing I noticed is that the crust has flaxseed and looks super healthy without any colors or preservatives. For $6.50 I found the empanadas to be a little small, and not as generous in the filling. The chicken empanadas could definitely use more chicken. The portobello mushroom filling was delicious, but I do think they need to dry it out a little bit before they fill it because biting into it, scalding hot liquid poured all over my face and that was not pleasant at all. The sauces that came on the side were absolutely delicious, the cilantro was so thick and delicious, and Herb-y and the chipotle sauce was also made very well with the smoky kick to it. Would that being said, the space is actually really beautiful and as a yoga enthusiast, I cannot wait to return here to try some of their Vinyasa yoga classes. If you are in the area, please drop in and check this place out, it's totally worth it.

Absolutely love this place! I've been attending classes here almost everyday since late August and…read moreit's been such a good experience. Everyone who works here is so kind and welcoming. Working out has always intimidated me and I was really nervous before my first class but every instructor I've interacted with has been incredibly patient and understanding. Every instructor makes an effort to ask the class if anyone has injuries, no one is bullied into doing more than they can handle, and modifications are always welcome! While the instructors are very understanding and don't try to pressure students to go over their limits, they're still extremely encouraging and do want you to try challenge yourself. I will say that Dr. Brown's Align 1:10 is one of Align's most challenging class. It's very fast-paced (the most fast-paced class I've taken at Align) and I think Dr. Brown's class can be intimidating for some who have never taken the class before but the intention is to keep your heart rate elevated so he means well! Since the fast-paced element of this class is very intentional, you'll have to switch through each exercise very quickly, which is challenging at first (I struggled through my first class). But if you keep attending his classes, it'll become second nature. The style of the class is like a bootcamp class so he will definitely push you to give it your all but if you absolutely can't do something, modifications are fine. I always modify at least 1-2 things in his class and it's never an issue, as long as you feel like it's still challenging and that your heart rate stays up. The Align 1:10 Xpress class is shorter and a bit slower, at least I think so. Both classes are great if you're up to it and trust me, you'll feel so accomplished when you get through it but it's definitely not a yoga class! The other thing that Align has really helped with is my flexibility and range of motion. I originally started coming to Align because I wanted to start weightlifting but I'm so inflexible and tight that I couldn't even squat with proper form. All the classes I've taken at Align have really helped with this issue so if you're experiencing something similar, this is the place for you! Honestly, every class I've take at Align has been so great. If you have injuries that limit your physical movement, if you just get intimidated by working out like myself or even if you're an experienced athlete, I would highly recommend coming to Align! They have a student trial period, which is great because you can take as many classes as you want for a week for only $20 I think.

From sweating buckets in vinyasa to revelations in my postures in align ground to chillin' and meditating in restorative (which I fondly refer to as adult nap time), I find myself feeling transformed as I pour a complimentary tea before heading out for the rest of my day. Also, I have to say I really appreciate that many of Align's top instructors are black women. These teachers are some of the best I've encountered in over a decade of practice in NYC and other countries. Bravo to Align for highlighting an underrepresented group's fierce and fantastic ability to teach yoga.
