I really, really wanted to love this place. I love non-alcoholic spirits, functional beverages, non-alcoholic beers and wines and cocktails. So when I heard this place in Park Slope had a full bar without a drop of alcohol in it, I got very excited. So back on May 2nd, early afternoon, my wife and I popped in and had a few cocktails while we did the Saturday crossword puzzle. We adored it! Great kinda art deco-ish vibe, very "detective noir." The bartender was excited and talked a lot about the products available. We spent roughly $60 or $70 and had a fantastic time. Today, Saturday August 8th, we thought we'd do the same thing since we were in the neighborhood. It was almost as if we experienced two different restaurants. My wife needed to use the restroom, so she did that first and sat down at the bar. Immediately, the person behind the bar told me "We aren't doing drinks, just food." I was then told that cocktails don't start until 4pm (which is wild, because it was around 1pm when we were there back in May!). I wasn't offered a list of drinks that were available, just told "No drinks." The bartender then added "Everything we have is zero proof," as if I was going to be upset about that. Of course I already knew this -- that's why I was there! The whole experience was extremely unwelcoming. At that point my wife came back and was looking over the brunch menu. I had wanted to leave, but she decided on a hibiscus tea... which it took her about five minutes to order, because we couldn't find anyone to take our order in spite of there being three front-of-house employees and only four patrons in the entire place. Ultimately I had a club soda (which was $4 for 7 ounces!) and we did the crossword and left. So we spent about $15 total, instead of the $60 we spent back in May -- and which we were planning to spend today on two rounds of NA cocktails. I worked service industry for a long time (over a decade), and the vibe I get from this place is that no one in management has done the service industry time that it takes to know how to run a place like this well. It has that feel of top-down lack of experience. It's a shame, really, because this place has so much potential and there's not really anything like it in the neighborhood. But as it is, they are basically just walking away from all the money we'd gladly spend there if the place made any sense or did a good job of being, y'know... a bar and restaurant. One note: I'm attaching an image of my receipt, because I have noticed the owner likes to claim that reviews are by people who went to some other restaurant and were just confused about Mockingbird. We aren't confused. Here's the receipt to prove it. read more

Mockingbird - Receipt proving that this is, in fact, the correct restaurant that I'm reviewing. - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Excellent concept, tasteful decor, but TERRIBLE service. This has the potential to be a destination spot if the owner could please just hire some service industry veterans who know how to treat their customers. I waited over 10 minutes for someone to take my drink order and made eye contact with a staff member behind the counter several times. Every time, she gave me a half smile and went back to looking at her phone. I asked another employee about a drink on the brunch menu and he just said "it's basically an orange Julius" and then went back to ignoring me. There were three employees and only 4 customers - literally no excuse to be rude and dismissive of the people who are there to give you their money. Unless some serious changes are made in re service, this establishment will probably shut down in 3 months. read more

This place is awesome. My boyfriend and I stopped by after seeing a movie at nitehawk and it did not disappoint. We each got a mocktail and they were both far more complex than any other mocktail I've had! Not to mention, great wellness benefits as well. The servers were attentive and really kind. The ambiance is cozy with dimmed lights- very similar to what you'd be looking for in any other bar. We will definitely be returning and excited to try their food next time! read more

See all

I've been here once and unfortunately the vibes were just a little off. It feels more like a coffee shop than a place where you can intimately share a drink in a bar like setting. And while this may not be the point of the place, it would be nice if they had some alcoholic beverages so that this could be a place where I could still go with my husband and enjoy an elevated mocktail while he still imbibes. Would love to see this place hit its mark, but may take some time. read more

I hosted a private event at Mockingbird this week and could not be more pleased with the team and space there! The Mockingbird team was great to work with, from event planning, to menu testing, to event service and execution (huge kudos to Evan, Coulton, Fear, and T!). Everyone there was so helpful, knowledgeable, flexible around our event needs, and they made our event go so smoothly. Furthermore, the space is wonderful - cozy, comfortable, welcoming, and the drinks and food are delicious. I would definitely work with Mockingbird again and would recommend them for any private event needs! :) read more

this is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood, it's got great atmosphere, amazing and creative mocktails, and good food. I love love love this place. The perfect place for teetotalers to hang out when we want a cocktail lounge. read more

I agree with a lot of these ratings here. The drinks fell flat and the tea one was extremely sour. Paying $15 for a mocktail is also sort of insane. Also, the vibe inside was very off - it's like a square box with poor design. The layout just didn't flow. The bartender was very nice though but I won't be coming back. read more

I got to try their cocktails they were catering at a gym event and they were so great and refreshing! The flavors were so much more complex than I anticipated, I loved the chai kombucha drink they had, it was great after my workout. read more

Mockingbird is a great addition to Park Slope. The space is inviting, and the drinks are thoughtfully crafted, with flavors that feel both familiar and inventive. It's nice to have a spot that focuses on complex, alcohol-free cocktails without feeling like something is missing. read more

I love the concept but the execution needs some work. Some suggestions to the owners: 1. Figure out ventilation so your windows are not constantly weirdly fogged. When we were there last week weekend it also smelled bad 2. Create more atmosphere by covering up entrance and windows more. it's not cozy and inviting right now with all the glass 3. Add some cocktails with stronger flavors read more

A non-alcoholic bar is such a great concept. I'm so happy we have this in Brooklyn! A friend and I went. He got an NA cider, I got a mocktail, and we shared the pretzel bites. The drinks were great and the ambiance was lovely. The bar felt pretty relaxed when we went. I'd love to come back and see when they do a trivia night or some other type of event. Excited to come back and see this place grow! read more

The drink photos on their insta looked exciting and sexy. So we were very excited to try this place. However.....the interior and vibe falls flat. Very flat. Went for Bingo the other evening and it was a full house. But the energy was boring, and the lack of wall decor / ambiance / energy made it feel like a temporary space. I found it a bit depressing and boring often throughout the evening. The bartender was very sweet, but the owner is very introverted, and doesn't make you feel welcome to be there. He may be better in the back of the house. The drag clown they hired was actually a bit of a downer. Maybe sounding depressed is his style, but we found it to be a bit of a downer for what we thought would be an energetic evening. It was promoted by him on the microphone as a safe sober place for the LGBTQ community, which is totally fine, but the Bingo night wasn't advertised as being that from what we read. Just saying. We see nothing wrong with a bar being a non alcoholic bar, but they made it feel like it was focusing on coming there if you are sober. We do drink alcoholic drinks, but we're also fine hanging drinking non alcoholic drinks, but felt it was one sided in a way. But at the end of the day, the bar is lacking energy & decor. Walk into Pasta Louis' bar next door to see exciting decor and energy to get some ideas. Cause right now if feels boring. read more

This is such a good and timely concept. But it needs some serious finessing. The lighting is horrible - it just ruins the vibe (meaning, no vibe, unless you like the DMV's fluorescent glow). The drinks needs focussed attention in terms of flavor. They lack complexity and acid or tannin, and general balance. I have no problem paying $15 for a good mocktail, but it takes real creativity and a very good palate to get it right. These are not right. read more

What a way to start dry January. A really cool cocktail bar. The ambiance was great and the staff was super chill. I'm excited to have a night spot where I don't feel the need to drink alcohol. read more

Great concept for us folks that can't drink alcohol but love a specialty cocktail. I suffer from massive migraines and alcohol is a trigger. At my urging friends and I visited Mockingbird! The taste and presentation of the "Dr's Order" cocktail was outstanding. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing for me and my peeps. Definitely coming back. No more boring no alcohol brews for me! read more

awesome new spot, love the vibe for an NA cocktail space. The bubble cocktail is my favorite so far!
