This was a four piece, fish and chips plate with fresh cod, homemade tartar, sauce, and fresh lemon. Truly delicious.

If you love good fish and chips, do not miss Gaffer's Pub in Gladstone. Just a little hole in the wall, but truly deeelish good fish and chips. Stop in for a bite and a brew.

Sorry, was disappointed. I realize things change but the pictures will show you the difference. Probably would not have travelled all the way from Southeast Portland for what I got. The service was so friendly when I call it in but the food was good but not as good as it was

It's Monday evening, one person at the bar enjoying his beer watching a Ducks game on the TV...two other guys feeding the slots ... I ordered my dinner, 3-piece fish and chips, deep fried mushrooms...and a cold bud light while I wait. Dinner arrived well packed, I paid and off to the hotel. In my room, watching Fast and Loud on the TV...I unpacked my grub. WOW, the mushrooms are huge, tasty...fantastic...!!! The fish was nicely battered, very tasty...equally fantastic. Nice establishment, good food...I'll be back...perhaps tomorrow night.

OK, so the proprietor is a Duck's fan, for some of you that's a plus and for me it's something to deal with and try not to let it mess up my focus on the food. If you are looking for a menu, it is on the chalk board behind the bar.... A little weird, but what do you expect, didn't I warn you that this is a U of O joint? This is where the place shines. The fish and chips plus popcorn shrimp are mighty good. The filets are reasonably sized but if it is only fish you'll probably want at least 3. The iced tea is fresh and not from concentrate and if you're thirsty the refills come quickly. It's a pub, on the plus side they seem to have four brews on tap. On the minus side, one of them is some University of Oregon special. The fries are the coated variety but not as obnoxious as some. Had they been fresh cut, with the skin on I would probably have added that last star.... Even if he is a duck fan. The place is small, clean, comfortable. The prices are half of what other pubs would charge so I'll definitely be coming back for dinner and try one of the other three brews to see how they are. A couple of big screen TVs are in the place to enjoy. Pub: Leave your under 21 friends at home or in the car, they won't be allowed inside. It's not on the main drags that I frequent but it was worth the drive. I can't wait to come back after football season. ( well, probably before then, but not with my Beavers buddies.

Big patty. Bottom bun was too soggy to pick up. Had to fork it. Not easy on a tray with paper under food My burger on a gluten free bun was problematic. Patty was large. Gf bun was not good. Obviously smaller than regular bun, very tough. Even steak knife was challenged cutting through it. Too much barbecue sauce. Super messy. Don't think it's worth the money and wouldn't get it again. Star rating is mainly for my burger. If you're gluten sensitive, maybe try an omelette

She took our drink order, then did her rounds, took our order and food was pretty quick- especially since it was 11:30 and it was pretty busy. About 2 in the bar like area and the table area was pretty busy. Decor- it's an interesting place. It's all decked out in Halloween which is my fave. Pretty big space. Glad we checked it out. Have lived in OC forever and it's been on my to do list. I would definitely return. Menu- the menu is pretty big and breakfast is served all day. That'll be my to do next time.

We were able to sit wherever we wanted. We first chose the high seats and then moved to a lower table. The server was nice and attentive. I went in with the notion of ordering fish and chips or some sort of seafood; however, I was enticed by the prime rib, as I did not care for the type of fish they had available. I ordered the prime rib (med-well) with mashed potatoes and veggies. My friend ordered the fish and onion rings. I also ordered jalapeno hushpuppies. My friend really enjoyed her fish and onion rings. She was going to take some home for dinner, but there was nothing left to take home. My prime rib was over-heated and came out well-done and dry. I ate around the edges and picked at the potatoes. The first batch of hushpuppies that came out was still raw. The server said we were lucky cause we got a free mini corn dog. I thought we were until I ate it, and half of it was still frozen. The server took the hushpuppies back, and they cooked them a little longer. They were fully cooked when she brought them back, but they were missing one key element. There was no hint of jalapenos. You could see green specks but could not taste them. If I am ever in the area again, I will come back and try something else.

I ordered a couple cocktails here and both were top notched. The bartender was busy but was still friendly. The vibe here is trendy and definitely a great place to bring a date. We were visiting family in the area and had two people in our group local to the area who had been there several times in the past. We first went and checked in and were told there was a 10-15 minute wait. The hostess was very kind, took our number and sent us to the upstairs bar to wait for a table. We were greeted by a friendly bartender who took our drink orders (cocktails and wine) and we enjoyed our beverages while chatting by the bar. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with large velvet green booths, all new, updated and well done. The drinks were all great. The downstairs hostess came upstairs to let us know our table was ready, and we paid and went downstairs. So far, we were all really happy with our experience. The prices of the drinks were all around $15-20+ but we were all okay with it given the good service (thus far), high end atmosphere, etc. There were people in there but it was a pretty mellow Saturday evening. We were given a nice large area to sit and thanked the hostess. The waitress came and was clearly a little overwhelmed but took our drink orders. I mentioned a drink my husband had upstairs and asked if I could have it, but was told they had a different menu down here and I needed to order from that menu. I looked it over while the others ordered their drinks, and when she came back to me, I asked if I could go upstairs to order the drink I wanted, and bring it down. She said sure. I put in an order for a couple food items with her, and she left. My brother in law kindly offered to go upstairs and order the drink and was gone for quite a long time. We learned that when he was upstairs, he went to the bar and mentioned I wanted a drink from his bar. The bartender's mood shifted and he said he had 10 drinks ahead of my BIL, and asked him to go downstairs to order. My BIL informed him he was told the downstairs bar didn't have the ingredients, and was sent up here. The bartender was annoyed and asked my BIL to go downstairs for 10 minutes and come back again to order. My BIL replied that he was happy to wait at the bar instead and took a seat. After a long while, the bartender curtly said that my BIL would have to pay for the drink up here, which my BIL of course agreed to. My BIL said it was very uncomfortable and the bartender was being rude (a couple sitting at the bar also mentioned this). We are guessing he was overwhelmed and didn't handle it well. He brought the drink downstairs, no problem. We were all sitting for a while and noticed that my BIL never received the beer he ordered from the waitress downstairs. And after about 45 minutes I asked about the food I had ordered (she hadn't checked in with us at all during that time, and I should mention it was not busy at all - several tables open). The waitress said she forgot to put it in. That was it. No offer to quickly put it in, no offer to comp a drink, no real apology. We asked for the bill and split it between two cards. When we got the receipts and cards back, my husband found they had given both him and his brother (the other payer) copies of my husband's receipt-so he assumed he was double charged. He went to the front to bring this to their attention and explained how he was upset by the poor service throughout the evening. He received a quick response that they had printed the receipt twice (didn't charge twice) and were short staffed that evening. We are all understanding people and my sister in law ran restaurants for years, we all had food service jobs and are sympathetic but really just disappointed in this place. I'm writing this review because the employees there just didn't seem to care about the issues we raised. They had an acoustic artist playing that evening who was phenomenal. If you go there on a different day with different staff, I'm sure you'd have a great time. But for the price and ambiance, we really expected better service.
