It's out in the country, very quiet, in a BEAUTIFUL setting....yet it's just a few minutes from Corning. My GPS did me wrong. Both times I stayed there I expected to be at a reasonable hour, but ended up with serious delays and arrived after midnight! Al was up waiting for me both times, and greeted me cheerfully, despite the late hour. THANK YOU, AL! (He even gave me a beer, which I sorely needed by then.) The rooms are glorious, with great beds and bedding, and incredibly comfortable, with private bathrooms. I'm hoping to visit Corning again this year, and will definitely stay with Al and Cathy if I can! (Cathy even had fruit infused water available in the public fridge. Just like downtown Big City, but without the price tag!)

In the bedroom is a frig, microwave, desk, closet. Down the hall is a washer and dryer. Downstairs, there is always fresh coffee, water, yogurt, eggs, etc. There is a gorgeous creek out back. We had so many places to choose to sit and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. In the winter, the home is warmed with a wood stove which makes it very homey and cozy. We are planning our visit this fall. Al and Cathy will be sure you are taken care of and always respect your privacy at the same time. Highly recommend spending time here at Country Living.

The whole place was immaculate, and I have to commend them on a tremendous job on the renovations to the property; you wouldn't believe the farmhouse was built in 1847! And last but certainly not least, the breakfasts Mary serves up are as wonderful as other reviews have mentioned. Some bed & breakfasts drop the ball on the whole "breakfast" part of "B&B," but that's definitely not the case at the Apex Inn! First let me say the facility is still the same beautiful place it has always been. That is where the good news ends. There is no longer table service. Meals are cafeteria style with limited options of BBQ. There were three of us for dinner at 5:30 pm on a Saturday evening. Two of us had pulled pork, potato salad and carrots. The pulled pork was so dried out it was not edible, the carrots were cold, and the potato salad was okay. The piece of johnny cake that came with the meal was the highlight of dinner. It was moist with just the right amount of sweetness to take it from cornbread to johnny cake. The other diner had the two meat platter of burnt ends and ribs with green beans and potato salad.Their comment was the burnt ends were beyond burnt, like trying to eat charcoal. The ribs were okay for four tiny ribs loaded in sauce. The green beans were delicious as was the johnny cake. The potato salad was okay but had an odd spicy taste. Here comes the really bad news; for two meals that were not edible, and one only half eaten our bill for cafeteria food was $92.00!! I find that pretty expensive for cafeteria style BBQ food, which isn't good. When talking with someone (not sure if they were the owners or not), they said the other food takes too long to cook when they have events. I would suggest that they have a regular menu on non-event nights, with a very limited menu on event nights. I would come back for an event but I definitely will NOT be returning for a meal. Very disappointing, expensive meal.

They rang a bell to signal or remind everyone (in case you are on camp time) that a new activity is starting. A favorite among the kids were the slush puppies in the camp store. My kids, ages 11 and 13 survived even though there was no cell coverage. Do not depend on the campground's WiFi connection, if you can call it a connection. Definitely, need to upgrade that amenity. Our group of 4 families all had buddy sites together, which was very nice. Our site was on an incline and needed extra blocks for leveling but was still a good sized site. Would consider coming back for a short weekend stay but would tell my family back at home that we will be off the grid.

To keep it short and sweet-if you are traveling in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, be sure to check out The Herb Cottage Bed and Breakfast. While the area is known for it's wine tasting, I must add that the gorges and waterfalls In Montour Falls and Watkins Glen(2 minutes away)are truly something to behold, and not to be missed! You've never seen anything like them. After a day of doing either, I found this bed and breakfast with it's enchanting decor, and artisan made soap delicately scenting the house, to be such a relaxing place to come back to. The owner Carolsue is the warmest, most inviting innkeeper and will ensure you have a relaxing, well fed, informed, and most pleasant stay. Think of her as family, only family you REALLY want to visit. She also makes homemade popcorn for you at night. I found myself looking forward to it... Sigh... This place was not worth the money we paid, needs an exterminator really bad. Their was a dead mouse in the basement that was there for some time. Will never go back there. Another lady who was staying at the home found 3 bugs in her hair in the morning!! I know my husband and I didn't sleep much.
