Amazing food and wonderful service! It almost felt like a piece of Bali in Portland! The spices were extremely flavorful and everything was good as expected. I do wish the menu was more extensive though!

We got back pretty late from our hike and didn't have many dining options open at that hour. Since Gado Gado stays open until 9 pm, we decided to give it a try. The place has a cool, hipster vibe. We didn't have reservations, but were able to grab seats at the bar. We ordered the English pea and asparagus green curry, Sumatran-style beef rendang, roti canai, bakwan sayur, and scented rice. It was more than enough food for the three of us. You can really taste the quality in each dish, and the flavors were both unique and delicious. The only downside was the price, which felt quite high for the portion sizes. Overall, it was a great experience, but more of a once-in-a-while kind of spot for me.

This place is going on my favorite's list! I loved everything we ordered but I liked the smoked chicken lawar the best. It reminded me of one of my favorite tea leaf salads except it has curry leaves and shrimp paste instead of tea leaves and fish sauce. It was fresh and aromatic and I would go back any day just for this salad. We also had the green cabbage and papaya bakwan sayur which came out in little itty bitty fried strips which were a little awkward to eat but the chutneys are what made the dish so good. The mint chutney was especially good. The green curry was also tasty but heavy on the coconut milk. We ordered a side of the clove scented rice to pair it with. Of course we had some roti and we all loved the blistered tomato curry that it came with so much that we ordered a second one. The decor was kitschy but fun. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Also, four of the five dishes we ordered were vegan, so if you're vegan this might be a nice place to go treat yourself.

Gado Gado is a must visit in Portland. We got the set menu for a party of 3, and that is my only regret, not because it isn't a good idea, but because there were a few things I wouldn't have otherwise ordered, and a few things I would have ordered that weren't on the regular set menu, such as the scallop crudo with a sauce that had pandan in it that I really wanted to try. It might have come with the pescatarian set menu though. Regardless, most of the set menu was highly enjoyed, such as the siu mai, roti, rice, chicken satay, and papaya salad. The omelette was only ok, the beef randan a bit to dry, and the donuts were also a little dry. Other than that, it was a great overall experience getting the "rice table." On a last note, the sambal and house assorted pickles were great and service kept that refilled. Ambiance was super cool, little unique items strewn about, and the plates weee cool (but some actually just from the store anthropology) still loved it though.

We had an amazing dinner at Gado Gado last night. We've never had Indonesian food before so our servers were super helpful in helping us choose some dishes and explaining the best way to eat them to fully experience the flavor. The food itself is incredible. We ended up getting an extra Roti Cannai (flatbread) because it was so good. We hope to come back to do the set menu for another special date night. Update to this review: I ended up going into labor not 12 hours after our meal here, so if you're pregnant and looking to get the ball rolling, Gado Gados food might have just done the trick!!! Can't wait to come back with little baby

My favorite go-to spot every time I'm in Portland no debate. As an Indonesian, finding a place that actually gets it is rare, but this one? They understood the assignment. The flavors are so authentic it feels like I time-traveled straight back to my childhood in Indonesia. Especially living in Seattle where Indonesian food is basically nonexistent, I treat coming here like a cultural reset. Emotional support meal. Healing experience. Therapy, but make it delicious. And the service?? 10/10. The staff actually know what they're serving and explain the dishes like pros, which is a blessing for anyone who's new and confused (we've all been there). The vibe, the energy, the whole atmosphere chef's kiss. Everything just hits. Honestly, I should've been the VIP guest... management, call me I'll be back ASAP, don't worry.

Every dish we ordered was really good. It was one of those meals where everything just hit. You could tell right away that a lot of care went into the food. The flavors were well balanced and everything tasted fresh and satisfying. The skewers were a standout for me. They were extremely tender and juicy and cooked perfectly. The meat was soft, flavorful, and not dry at all. You could really taste how well they were grilled. My favorite part of the meal was the roti. It was so soft and fluffy on the inside with just the right amount of crunch on the outside. Warm and fresh and honestly hard to stop eating. It went perfectly with every dish and I would come back just for that. What I loved most was how consistent everything was. There was not a single dish that felt disappointing. Everything tasted thoughtfully made and well executed. Overall it was a great meal and a place I would absolutely come back to. Highly recommend, especially for the skewers and the roti.

We decided to check out Gado Gado because it's been all over social media lately, and the food looked amazing. We went for a mix of dishes, and they were all delicious, but a couple really caught our eye. We got the green curry, rice, xo shrimp, chicken satay skewers, roti, and Chinese sausage and shrimp shu mai. The green curry and xo shrimp were the absolute best. While everything was tasty, it didn't quite wow us. The service was fantastic; the staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. Overall, I'd recommend giving it a shot once, but I don't think it's a must-visit.

My party participated in the Rice Table. And it did not disappoint. The team was all friendly and knowledgeable. The decor was fun, paper streamers that were menus. Parking available in the parking lot. Now for the food, my favorite from the menu: - Panipuri - suggested you eat in one bite. Tangy but one of my favs of the evening. - Chicken satay - Chinese sausage and shrimp siu-mai - roti canai - solid flatbbread - bakwan sayur - lived the crunchiness and mint chutney - Oma's clove scented rice - anything coconut and I'm sold! - wok fried herbal omelet - had a sweetness to it that I dont usually associate with egg - Pisang goreng - the green coconut sauce , might honestly have been my favorite "dish" of the night. The dipping friend banana was tasty too! Overall a really fun experience and you will leave full!

Had this place on my list of places to try in Portland, and finally got around to going recently. They serve some classic and some innovative takes on Indonesian food, and I was very impressed by the bold flavors in the dishes I tried. In particular, I really enjoyed the soft shell crab papaya salad, beef rendang (with shrimp chips), and the roti canai with tomato coconut curry (first time trying coconut curry). The yuzu aioli trout roe siu mai was also very unique and tasty, some of my favorite siu mai I've had. The dishes are a definitely on the pricier side but the vibes and ambience inside are great for a nice date night or night out. Overall I'm glad I tried, and would come back!

Inconsistent. The panipurri was a standout. The rest was just okay and a bit in the salty side. The service was friendly and excellent.

We were driving around looking for a place to have a date-night dinner and I remember that I saved this place and wanted to see what it was all about. It has been a long time since I've had Indonesian food and I was excited to basically try it again for the first time. We tucked ourselves into a table on a rainy day and were so excited for what we were about to try. The food at all of the tables around us looked so good. We looked to see what was popular and just let it roll in. Starting with the Chicken Satay that came with a spicy peanut sauce. I don't eat chicken and my fiance struggles with spicy, so I ate some of the peanut sauce and he ate the chicken and even without the sauce he said it was good. We started with the Roti Canai that came with garlicky blistered tomato curry- This was 100% the star of the show. I am actually drooling writing this review and I'm so sad I don't live in the PNW because I'd be here all the time. The roti... you guys the roti was meltingggg in my mouth, peeling apart and falling into pieces. I wish I could have just had 10 of these. The tomato curry was what dreams are made of. The flavor was so complex, so rich, I think my eyes closed and I may have seen stars. We finished with the English Pea and Asparagus Green Curry with a side of Oma's rice. This one kicked our butts. I was worried because if it was spicy to me- there was no way my fiance would eat it. (This man struggled with black pepper...) But to my surprise, he was putting it down with a smile (and some sweat) because he agreed that the flavor was so insane and he could tell that the spice was not for no reason- that it actually brought something wonderful to the dish. I met a new man that day- who took my fiance. But I couldn't agree more.

I was excited to try this out given its popularity on social media but the food was sorta meh to me. It was good don't get me wrong. I felt it was interesting for an Indonesian inspired restaurant to not have chopsticks at the table unless requested... I thought the atmosphere was really great, it was busy and lively. The decor was also really beautiful. I enjoyed the experience overall.

Accents of batik patterns and carefully curated knickknacks create a vibrant, warm space that feels both intentional and authentically lived-in. Authentic Flavors & Heat Wajan doesn't shy away from the bold, complex heat that defines Indonesian cuisine. Their Sambal is a standout--it's bright, pungent, and packs a serious wallop. Whether it's the Sambal Matah (fermented chili and shallots) or the sweet-and-spicy chili sauce served with their crispy fried chicken, the heat is always balanced by aromatics like lime leaf and lemongrass. I went with two friends to enjoy the chef's menu, and while I enjoyed the experience, looking back there were a few too many missed details to have me scampering back. 1. I'm all about Portland restaurants optimizing seating and serving space and have zero quibbles about eating outside in a tent. While the lap blankets are a nice touch, I didn't feel any external heat source being utilized. Looking around, most diners had their jackets on. When I'm settling in for a nicer meal, I don't want to wear outerwear. 2. Service was succinct. Not warm, not helpful, but timely. It seems to me that when you're offering cuisine that people may be unfamiliar with, pausing for a moment to explain what we're eating would be helpful. We had to ask for a menu back to figure out what we were eating. 3. Dishes were meant to be shared. That's fun! But the appropriate plates and serving utensils weren't provided to make that easy. Cutting something on a tiny plate with sauce is just a messy proposition. 4. Bar program is abysmal. Wine options were non-existent, with very limited beer and cocktail choices. 5. Servings. Not serving SIZE, mind you, but how food was served that's meant to be shared. For example, one of the first courses was a lamb skewer served with a tiny fried bun (think savory beignet). We received two of these for our table of three. And this same sort of food math happened with every course. At an establishment where everyone at the table must participate, we should be able to each have our own tiny buns, dang it. And when the bill is over $100 per person, it's not too much to ask. How do you split four pieces of spring roll amongst three people? I am not joking when I say we had a mathematician at the table, and we were still flummoxed. It seems that every "family style" meal served in Portland does this, and it's annoying every time. 6. Dessert! There was one dessert option only - a cloyingly sweet rice cereal treat made with Fruity Pebbles (or some such thing) that only a child could possibly have enjoyed. No leaning into Asian cultures, no fruit. It was pretty nasty.

When I ate here the menu felt more-so like vaguely asian fusion food, and it's trendy, almost obscenely so; but I don't think the maximalist combinations of flavors or textures worked that well in any of the dishes I tried. Nothing really stuck in my memory, which is unfortunate for the high price point. I think the business focuses a little bit more on maintaining an attractive ambiance for dates and tourists and such. It might be worth the trip for more romantic or social-media minded individuals, but not for me personally! Service itself was good and really warrants no comment. The food here isn't outright bad, but it's nothing I'd be enthusiastic to have again.
