Super authentic Indonesian street food dishes and cakes. Portions are bigger than in Indonesia but all very delicious. Service is attentive and decors are typical of traditional restaurant in Indonesia. Only street-side parking available (as far as I know) so can be a bit tricky.

The food was pretty tasty and absolutely flavorful though a bit heavy on the garlic. I liked how there was flexibility in the dishes as far as being able to get dishes with meat, veggie, or vegan for everyone's taste. Our favorite was their top dish the lontong. I personally wasn't a fan of the lontong rice pieces but loved the curry and other parts of the dish. I would recommend getting a side of rice with it to really enjoy the dish. We also liked the asinan betawi. The ketoprak was also good but less flavorful than the others. We got all the dishes vegan. One gripe was the cups are cute but they had rusted bits inside each of the cups so we didn't feel comfortable drinking from them. The limeade was a good substitute and seemed pretty homemade, watered down to not be that sour. The tolak angin was very much like "Vick's vapor rub" per the server and had such an intense smell we all got a bit of the feeling without drinking it haha.

I've never been to Indonesia but I feel like I'm more likely to go now that I've been introduced to some amazing flavors at Pasar! The menu takes a while to digest, if you will (or at least it did for me) since it's full of unfamiliar words but everything is explained and I don't feel like I went wrong with any of my choices! I tried this place based on the NYT top 25 list and was totally impressed by the food and felt the prices were more than fair. Top hits were the Lemper Ayam (amazing seasoning) and the Lontong Cap Go Meh (fun variety of textures and flavors, yummy broth). Many dishes were pretty spicy so be careful if you can't handle spice like me.

Came for lunch, and it was a charming spot that really felt authentic and takes you away to what one imagine it would be like eating streetside somewhere in Indonesia. It was quiet when I was there, with few diners, but it was a fun experience to try a cuisine that I have little experience with. Much of the menu is designed as street food, so they're small portions or snacks. Also, being a snack-type place, there are a lot of deep-fried items (which I generally avoid) so that reduces the options for people looking for healthier options. I tried a Nasi Kucing, which is a small rice dish with topping of your choice. I tried the babi goreng, or pork belly, which I didn't notice was deep fried (I should have read carefully the "crispy" part in the menu). Overall it was good and fun presentation with the banana leaf. The rujak serut seemed like it would be like a Thai papaya salad, but it was almost like a fruit salad with mango, pineapple, papaya and jicama. I could see how this dish would be refreshing on a summer day (but this was winter when I visited, so I did appreciate getting some vitamin C. I also tried a "o-kue" which was under the savory cake section. It's a steamed taro cake that was cute with chopped dried shrimp on top. It reminded me of the Chinese daikon steamed cake you get for dim sum. Overall, this was a great way to stretch your global dining experiences with some well-executed dishes. I held back a star because it can be pricey given how small the orders are. But good service and well done food.

So we went to Pasar on our anniversary. It's on the NYT top 25 restaurants in Portland list. Portland Eater also puts it in their top restaurants in PDX. We ended up ordering most of what they recommended. It feels like stepping into Jakarta when you enter this ethnic eatery. Shadow puppet cutouts dance along one wall, the bar has a grass awning, water is served in painted tin cups and the plastic plates feel authentically Southeast Asian as well. Most of the dishes at Pasadena are meant to be shared, which is always fun. The more dishes I get to try the happier I am! The drinks are authentic! I chose the "Famous Indonesian Sweet Tea" which comes in a cute little juice box. My husband got the refreshing limeade. Both were good choices. The food came in quick succession after that. Dishes came close together. First were 2 items from the Jajanan section of the menu: Martabak Daging-crispy and pastry-like filled with ground beef; and Risol Sayur, another pastry with veggies inside. Yum. Then came Rujak Serut, a salad with pineapple, papaya, jicama, cucumber, etc with a delicious tamarind dressing topped with peanuts. Refreshing and flavorful! Lastly our main dish came: Longto g Cap Go Meh. This dish was anything but Meh! Delicious broth, interesting textures that included veggies, fried tofu, etc. I loved it but my husband wasn't that crazy about the potato chips that came on top, and the crispy crackers. He also didn't like the rice cake rolls. The texture put him off. I liked them though. I'd like to go back and try more things on the menu. I just have to convince my husband!

So apologies - I realized after the fact I took no pics of the food - we were v hungry and the food was v good. Enjoyed every dish I had, the fried rice finally satisfied the craving for the old Indonesian spot on my college campus 16yrs ago, finally! I also really enjoyed the shrimp dish, Udang Telor Asin and the chicken wings - def winners. Try some of the beverages - the teas were great for after dinner! Potent. Service was very good, our server was friendly and had recommendations. The food came amazingly quick, so the wait for a table on a Saturday night wasn't too long. I will definitely return.

Ordered: -Lemper Ayam -Rujak Serut -Siomay Bandung -Emie Medan -Babi Goreng Pro: -Everything here is delicious and flavorful; we'll be back!! -Our absolute favorites were: Lemper Ayam, Rujak Serut & Babi Goreng -Portions are smaller like tapas style so you get to try a bit of everything -We recommend ordering sambal to pair with your food. We ordered the terasi sambal & saus kacang which seems to be made in house. Spicy, so watch out!! -Interior is welcoming and festive :-)

If you like Eem, you'll love Pasar. The flavors were amazing! Will definitely come back for more.

You'll have to try a few different dishes to figure out what you like.

Super tasty snacks and bites that are perfect to share with friends, coworkers, or on a date! The servers were gracious enough to guide us and share their recommendations so we got nasi goreng, a noodle dish, some cod and chicken dumplings, fruit salad, veggie salad (they're not your typical salads), and a few desserts plus drinks. The cocopandancello was delicious and creamy with a hint of booze, and a perfect little accompaniment to the meal.

We stumbled across PASAR while out for a walk and ended up having a really memorable meal. The restaurant is spacious and inviting. You can choose between bar seating, regular tables, or a big group setup. The décor features lots of Indonesian touches and creates a truly immersive vibe. To start, we ordered the GORENGAN COMBO. This platter of fried Indonesian snacks impressed us right away. Each snack was crispy and full of flavor. There were several sauces for dipping, with a nice variety of spicy and slightly sweet notes. Next up were the AYAM RUJAK chicken wings. These wings are all about the sauce. A little sweet at first, but the spice definitely kicked in. The balance was just right and the wings had great texture. The standout for me was the LONTONG CAP GO MEH. This bowl comes with a creamy coconut shrimp broth, lontong rice cakes, fried tofu, veggies, tempe orek, egg, and crunchy toppings. Every bite had something different and everything worked together perfectly. The broth was rich and comforting. Service was excellent with both servers being attentive and friendly. Prices felt fair for the quality and the portions. Overall, PASAR is a spot I want to come back to. If you are looking for Indonesian food that feels special and different from the ordinary, give this place a shot. Tip: The GORENGAN COMBO is great for sharing, and if you like coconut-based dishes the lontong is a must-order.

One of my new favorite places in Portland. My boyfriend and I stopped by here during our trip to just on a whim. I was so drawn in by the decor and the fact that I do not come across many Indonesian restaurants! We ordered a few drinks and the snack combo which allowed us try a few different Indonesian foods! The food was great and my cocktail, the Coco-Pandancello was actually my favorite drink of my entire trip! The service was wonderful and the woman who I think may have been the owner (?) was the sweetest. I wish we were able to stop by again before leaving but will definitely be back when we're back in Portland!! Highly recommend

This food was absolutely amazing, I went her for my 21st birthday and I don't regret it! Experiencing Indonesian food for my birthday here was an experience I won't forget, the food was amazing the service was phenomenal as well. I'd highly recommend this spot to anyone who likes a little more tangy spicy and sweet food!

What a gem on Alberta! Came in around 7:30pm on Saturday night and only waited just a few minutes for a table. Inside ambiance was so fun! Lots of colorful things all over and beautiful details. Service was great, food came out quick. For three people we ordered chicken wings, nasi goreng tek tek, emie medan, and Babi goreng. Dessert was excellent as expected, got the biji salak which was everyone's favorite. Also got 2 each of the putu ayu and talam ubi. Very delicious and not overly sweet or heavy. Definitely would come back again to try more!

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels less like a typical Pacific Northwest eatery and more like a cozy corner of Jakarta. The Atmosphere The cultural decor is one of the first things that grabs you. The walls feature striking murals of Indonesian life, including depictions of Jakarta's train stations and traditional shadow puppet characters (Wayang Kulit). Accents of batik patterns and carefully curated knickknacks create a vibrant, warm space that feels both intentional and authentically lived-in. Authentic Flavors & Heat Wajan doesn't shy away from the bold, complex heat that defines Indonesian cuisine. Their Sambal is a standout--it's bright, pungent, and packs a serious wallop. Whether it's the Sambal Matah (fermented chili and shallots) or the sweet-and-spicy chili sauce served with their crispy fried chicken, the heat is always balanced by aromatics like lime leaf and lemongrass. The Standout Curry While their Beef Rendang (a rich, dry curry) is legendary, the Kari is a must-try for any curry lover. * The Dish: A Medan-style yellow curry soup served with your choice of steamed rice or rice noodles. * The Profile: It's a beautifully balanced turmeric-based broth that manages to be incredibly creamy yet light. * The Details: It comes loaded with tender boneless chicken (or fried tempeh and tofu for a vegan option), golden baby potatoes, and a topping of emping (slightly bitter melinjo bean chips) that adds a perfect crunch. Whether you're diving into the Nasi Campur to sample a bit of everything or warming up with a bowl of curry, Wajan delivers an uncompromising and deeply flavorful look into Indonesian culinary traditions.

We had a six-person table, but two of my friends couldn't make it. So, it was just four of us, all girls. I arrived first and ordered a cocktail ($16-Disco Boll). It was a barely half a glass with full ice. I was surprised by how small an amount that is and how it tasted like just juice. Later, my friends arrived. One of them ordered the same cocktail, and it came out as a full cup! I'm not joking! It was a FULL cup and tasted much stronger alcohol. We could tell that different people made the cocktail, but come on, you need quality control! We decided to order five different dishes, as the server had recommended six to seven for four people. We were wondering why he was pushing it so hard, since each dish was expensive. After the food arrived, we realized why he kept suggesting more. The portions were tiny! I honestly never understand food like curry, which needs rice, and they don't provide it. They charge extra for rice. Their 'English Pea Curry' ($28) didn't come with rice. We asked the server, and he suggested 'Roti Canai' ($16) instead of 'rice' ($6). Are you kidding me? A bowl of rice is $6? The 'Roti Canai' came with 'one roti' and some tomato sauce. We were still hungry and ended up ordering two more bowls of rice. The 'Chicken Satay' ($16) came with three skewers that tasted good. The 'Bakwan Sayur' ($16) was a strange dish. It was a bunch of very thin veggie strings fried together. It wasn't what we expected. The 'Scallop Crudo' ($26) was good, and we all liked it. Overall, the food tasted good, and the service was fast and friendly. The restaurant was cute. However, the portion sizes were ridiculous for the price! It's not a fine dining experience, and we paid $178.12 for four ladies. They included 20% gratuity, which we understood since we had booked a table for six people. However, since we were only four, it would have been better if they had informed us that they would still charge us 20% of the tip. Additionally, they charged 2% of 'Employee Health & Wellness'. I won't be returning to this restaurant. I had some hopes that this time might be different, but unfortunately, it wasn't. The prices were still way too high, and the portions were too small. I wouldn't recommend it. With that price, you can find many better restaurants in Portland that will actually make you feel full.

I went with two friends to enjoy the chef's menu, and while I enjoyed the experience, looking back there were a few too many missed details to have me scampering back. 1. I'm all about Portland restaurants optimizing seating and serving space and have zero quibbles about eating outside in a tent. While the lap blankets are a nice touch, I didn't feel any external heat source being utilized. Looking around, most diners had their jackets on. When I'm settling in for a nicer meal, I don't want to wear outerwear. 2. Service was succinct. Not warm, not helpful, but timely. It seems to me that when you're offering cuisine that people may be unfamiliar with, pausing for a moment to explain what we're eating would be helpful. We had to ask for a menu back to figure out what we were eating. 3. Dishes were meant to be shared. That's fun! But the appropriate plates and serving utensils weren't provided to make that easy. Cutting something on a tiny plate with sauce is just a messy proposition. 4. Bar program is abysmal. Wine options were non-existent, with very limited beer and cocktail choices. 5. Servings. Not serving SIZE, mind you, but how food was served that's meant to be shared. For example, one of the first courses was a lamb skewer served with a tiny fried bun (think savory beignet). We received two of these for our table of three. And this same sort of food math happened with every course. At an establishment where everyone at the table must participate, we should be able to each have our own tiny buns, dang it. And when the bill is over $100 per person, it's not too much to ask. How do you split four pieces of spring roll amongst three people? I am not joking when I say we had a mathematician at the table, and we were still flummoxed. It seems that every "family style" meal served in Portland does this, and it's annoying every time. 6. Dessert! There was one dessert option only - a cloyingly sweet rice cereal treat made with Fruity Pebbles (or some such thing) that only a child could possibly have enjoyed. No leaning into Asian cultures, no fruit. It was pretty nasty.

It might be worth the trip for more romantic or social-media minded individuals, but not for me personally! Service itself was good and really warrants no comment. The food here isn't outright bad, but it's nothing I'd be enthusiastic to have again.

Asian curries but, like all ingredients, it should not be pushed overboard. We ordered the Family Feast style meal and a single Khao Soi. The Khao Soi is too sweet for my taste for a curry soup noddle; perhaps, I am just not in tuned with Burmese curries. I'd much prefer Malaysian & Indonesian curries, where the curries are leaning towards more savory and do not taste like desserts. Even the other curries from the Family Feast were too sweet. I blame it on the overuse of coconut milk. Service: a single white waitress was serving, covering 4-6 tables, although the place wasn't very busy. She was courteous but goofed up a little when she accidentally spilled water on my thigh, although she apologized profusely. Ambiance: mostly low noise, people at each table spoke softly and are respectful of other people's pleasure in eating their foods. Lighting is soft and somewhat dim. Conclusion: would I return? Probably not on my own accord but it's OK if my folks want to eat there.
