Soy curl Red Curry Soy Curls Noodles(V)

I ordered the soy curls red curry noodle as takeaway and it was made pretty quickly. Quantity was good too, only thing was I didn't really taste any "red curry" flavor. It just tasted like spicy noodles without any sort of taste to it. I do like the amount of vegetarian options they had, maybe just ordering it to go isn't as good as is it would be sitting inside and eating.

Food was okay. It was nice a quick fix, but the hot and sour soup was not very spicy, and had chicken, shrimp, and tofu but not enough mushrooms in my opinion. Staff was friendly. I would get beef over their chicken dishes.

We stopped here after a concert at the Old Church. Our friend Tom assured us we'd have great food. Spicy Chicken, Spicy Beef, were excellent, very tasty with lots of veggies. We also got a very small plate of steamed rice, which he charged me for?.? No hot and sour soup at lunch WTF. Tom's fried rice looked fine, with a little bit of chicken thrown in. Beautifully decorated, great service, but expensive for what one gets maybe I expect too much.

If you're a vegetarian, ignore all the negative reviews. This place is BOMB for folks that don't eat meat. Their veg menu is out of this world. Soy curls... dry fried tofu... eggplants... damn. I'm serious. Do not sleep on this restaurant. Amazing service, good atmosphere, and ridiculously tasty sauces. Dishes I'd recommend: eggplant, zang bang tofu, Mongolian soy curls, soy curl curry noodles and soy curl dumplings. It so good I'm writing the review WHILE I'm finishing up my meal. Shout out to the friendly and helpful staff.

    Pork Belly Fried Rice

Fried rice is the meal of the people. You got leftover rice? Fry it up. Got a bunch of leftover ingredients you don't know what to do with? Pineapple pepper fried rice. You want to go nuts and class it up? Break out the shaoxing wine and put your foot on the gas. It is practical, it is filling, and it is good I've eaten many a fried rices both homemade (check out Jason Farmer's recipe on Youtube) and at restaurants and this one was the most confusing. "Why are the pork belly pieces so big?" "Why are you using jalapeños instead of chili oil for spiciness? " "Why is it mushy?" And then comes the worst thought you can ever have when eating at a restaurant "I could make a better version of this at home." It's a condescending and disrespectful notion that ignores many parts of why restaurants even exist but it's a little embarassing if it's true. And for me it is. Not because I'm particularly great at cooking but the bar just really isn't that high. The staff was kind but for the price I expected better. If you want a truly exciting fried rice I'd recommend Eem

The name brought us in and the food and prices will bring us back. The won ton soup broth was darker than most I've had, and it's a go to dish for me most of my life, but was a umami flavor bomb. The sauce for the clay pot pork belly was exquisite, nice large chunks of tofu-but lo and behold there was no pork belly! I will give them the benefit of the doubt because I thought it was my misunderstanding until I checked the menu from home. The owners were pleasant enough, you have to figure by Sunday afternoon and going through St Paddy's weekend and a Timbers game in down town PDX they were burnt out...Nothing fancy inside the restaurant, but if it keeps prices below $20 I am all for it! Will definitely be back to Kung Pow and the Alphabet/Nob Hill district for shopping and food, SUPPORT PDX!

I ordered the sesame chicken, medium spicy, to go. The layout here was interesting. They have a large dining room that was almost entirely empty except for one table, and then a closed off area with a bar that looked a lot nicer, but was equally empty. While I was waiting for my order to be made, two other people came in to pick up delivery. This place definitely caters to take out and delivery despite having the set up for what looks like a nice dine in experience. The service was good despite only one person running front of house. The person up front managed to take orders, and pour drink for their table as well as take my order. They were friendly and accommodating. When the food was ready the back of house staff brought it out and handed it to those who were waiting; good teamwork between front and back. The food itself was ok. They definitely make it all fresh in house because the chunks of chicken were absolutely gigantic. Normally large food portions is a good thing, but these chunks were so big that they needed to be cut up before you could eat them; not used to fried saucy Chinese food being bigger than bite sized. Medium spicy was plenty spicy for me as someone who likes some spice in their food but doesn't necessarily subject themselves to super spicy things. I might go a little milder next time. The chicken was a little soggier than I would have wanted when I got home 8 minutes later, but over all it was good and I liked it. Worth noting, entrees don't automatically come with rice; it's 1$ to add on. Overall I would say; the service was good, the establishment was nice, and the food was OK but didn't reflect the quality implied by the price point.

I've been on the search for a good vegan friendly Chinese spot for a while now. Kung Pow has seriously impressed me with the large variety they offer vegan. Everything is clearly indicated which I appreciate. I ordered my food to go and called the restaurant to ensure all my dishes were 100% vegan. The owner who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful, making sure what I ordered was made exactly how I wanted. Some menu highlights for me were the vegan potstickers and the Kung Pow! Tofu. The portions are a good sizing too. I do however wish they would add some more vegetables. Other than that I would highly recommend trying this place out!

Ordered Sesame Chicken and it was just 5 giant chunks of dry white meat. $16 for this is just sad. If you see the dining room empty there's a reason why, you will be disappointed

Take-out portions have gotten ridiculous. Half box should be half price but instead twice price?! No joke it was just 3 mouthfuls per box. What little we did taste was overly salty. We pick up without any utensils or napkins and you ask for tip?! C'mon. Do not get kung pow'd duped and make sure to point out you want value not a chop in the wallet.

Place was nice and the atmosphere was enjoyable, staff is friendly and attentive, food was great and the cocktail was a surprise hit.

The incredibly thick breading on the sesame chicken. It was soggy and had the texture of dough. So gross.

I've heard they serve dim- sum. Any ideas of when?

There are dim sum options on the munch and dinner menu but I don’t believe they do a traditional dim sum only breakfast like some of the Chinese restaurants on SE 82nd do.

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

The smashed cucumber salad was super refreshing -- lots of garlic, crunchy, and exactly what you want after hours in the car. The green onion pancakes came out crispy and satisfying, but my favorite was the wood ear mushroom. They did something to it that made it insanely umami and savory, like a dish you keep thinking about later. The fried rice was solid and full of flavor, and you could tell the kitchen cared. The dining room was pretty empty when we went, so maybe it's newer or underrated, which feels unfair because the food deserves more people. Parking around there is kind of a hassle and the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but this is a definite stop for me next time I'm in Portland.

Shoutout to everyone still working on Thanksgiving Day! Because of hardworking folks like you,…read morepeople who don't celebrate holidays like me can still eat out. I'm super grateful. Before coming, I did my homework and checked reviews on Chinese review website. The opinions were kinda extreme, some said it was terrible, others said it was amazing. Since it was only a 1 minute walk from my hotel and actually open on Thanksgiving, I went for it. I ordered jalapeño beef 小炒牛肉, veggie chow mein 蔬菜炒面, and string beans 干煸四季豆. The beef came out first, and the first bite surprised me. It didn't taste like the jalapeño beef from other Sichuan restaurants. It tasted exactly like Cantonese beef with gailan, but with green bell peppers instead. Instead of tingly spicy, it had a subtle sweetness. If you're Cantonese, you probably know exactly what I mean. The veggie chow mein was good and reminded me of late night street noodles in Guangzhou, and it also had a slightly sweet touch. The string beans were good too, and didn't have any sweetness. There was some savory minced pork in it. If you're not a strict vegetarian and don't mind a little meat in the dish as long as you only eat the veggie part, go for this one, it was flavorful. While having dinner, I overheard Cantonese in the kitchen between the chef and staff, and ahhh, that explains why I tasted the Cantonese flavor in my dishes! It also explains the two types of extreme reviews. So let me be honest, if you come here expecting the Sichuan/Hu'nan version of stir-fried beef with a strong spicy profile, you might be disappointed. But for me, it was honestly a lucky hit. I did see some Sichuan spicy dishes on the menu, but I didn't order them, so I can't say if they're authentic. But based on what I ordered tonight, I was happy with everything.

As our food started to come, our friend noticed a long black hair in the chicken dumplings. We notified our server and she investigated the dish on our table. This rubbed us all the wrong way because you should believe your customer and take the plate from the table and maybe exam it in the back/kitchen? We didn't like the hair deter us and everything was truly delicious. We had pork soup buns (good, but not very soup-y), pork wontons in chili oil (yum!), chicken potstickers (probably my favorite), spicy chow mein (delicious), the dry fried green beans (so good)! We were stuffed. I ended up telling the server that we wouldn't need the new chicken dumplings and she was very rude and taken back by that. I feel bad to inconvenience them, but none of it would've happened if there wasn't a hair in the food? There were other small, rude things our server did but ultimately, it didn't ruin our night or take away from the delicious food! I would recommend the restaurant with the warning that the service is lackluster.
