This is the Fried Pike plate and just took a bite. Wow, delicious and I have to credit the two waitresses Michelle and Bridget the are awesome and welcoming, just another reason I keeping coming back. Lunch is a good time come, not to busy.

The food was great, and service friendly, loved the atmosphere. Extremely cheap prices too.

Soup of the day: cabbage, potato, polish sausage soup

Great food! Everything tasted like home made comfort foods grandmothers make with love. Glad we found this place.

Polish sausage on rye

We stopped in 45 min before they closed and were treated fabulously and the food was awesome! The pierogi and polish sausage on rye were incredible. If you're a notre dame fan the interior can't be beat! Wish we'd stopped by on a Thursday for the polish specials but definitely glad we found this gem which has been here for 100 years!

Went here tonight, Friday at 8:30, and trying to find parking was very difficult. All of the parking spots on the street were taken, I didn't see a private parking lot. It was snowing out and there was nobody shoveling around the restaurant so walking was difficult. The place was really busy, but it was starting to lighten up, the kitchen closed at 9:30. They sat us at a table in the main dining room and what I noticed was that most people know each other in the place, it really seems like a neighborhood hotspot. The place is littered with tons of Irish memorabilia on the walls and had a nice Christmas tree in the corner. It does seem very dated but that was expected at a local place like this. I told the waitress it was my first time in here and she was super friendly and told me about their popular dishes such as cabbage rolls, fish fry, and peirogi. The cabbage rolls sounded good but they were sold out. We went with the fish fry and a draft coors light. They also gave us a few pieces of rye bread and butter to munch on while we wait. The bread was really hearty, the waitress told me it was from Mazureks Bakery in Buffalo. I'll have to stop by there one day. The dinner plates came out really fast but I was surprised to see so little on the plate. Two small pieces of battered haddock, a spoonful of coleslaw, and about a dozen french fries (at most). You would expect a good sized portion from a local place, but not here. Fortunately the fish and fries were cooked well and tasted good. The coleslaw was creamy but unexciting. I placed my dinner aside as I wanted dessert, and the banana cream pie listed on the blackboard had my eye. Unfortunately, the waitress told me they were sold out of the banana cream and gave me a couple of other options. I went with the cherry pie, heated, a la mode. It wasn't anything to write home about, the crust was too soft and doughy. They only accept cash here, which I find is such a pain for us customers. I always roll my eyes when I see a small old place only accept cash, but somehow still have room to install the latest electronic ATM.

You know when there's like a billion chairs that a person could possibly sit in but they're like "nah bruh, I'm sitting the one next to you." This was that incident. You can pick a seat, any seat, including the bar and in a room full of tables, they plunk down directly next to us. Going to be honest; it actually helped me review here. After reading through a concise, yet well made menu and being offered the daily specials, we took turns going to the bathroom. As I waited for my man to return I took in the Notre Dame and belated Easter theme, I hummed along to some classic rock. The waitress swung by with a bowl of perfectly thick bread and butter, and shortly after my salad. Drool alert, the cheese is fat, and not that scrappy crap that some restaurants try to pass off as real dairy. For under 20 buckaroos, including a fair tip, we ordered crab cakes and all four of their pierogies. The cakes tasted of real crab, and were crispy, like a seafood chicken nugget. We took them with tartar sauce, smartly doctored with dill. (Smear some of that goodness on the bread my dudes.) Now for the mildly heart breaking part. My man is a bit of a pierogi snob, having tasted (name redacted for the sake of not starting a restaurant war) pierogies and gave them a three outta five. The best was the mushroom, followed by the creamy cheese, a surprisingly dry sauerkraut, and original potato in dead last, being labeled as bland. The side of sour cream helps move things along. The waitresses know the regulars by name, and will patiently explain the menu to those who ask. This meal is made for you, not some one size fits all nonsense. If only it was open for more than a few hours. Slap your cash on the table, and be sure to turn the doorknob to the right or get trapped like these two idiots who don't need to get locked in to be convinced to return back.

This is an old neighborhood bar with a backroom restaurant. The décor is a100% tribute to Notre Dame football. Cash only is accepted. I enjoyed the Polish platter, but it wasn't as much food as I thought it might be. There were two pierogi that were on the small side, but I did enjoy the mushroom one in particular because you don't always see that filling offered. The piece of smoked Polish sausage was also not very large. The biggest item was the cabbage roll, which was definitely good-sized and filling. The parsley potatoes were fine. All in all I was satisfied with the meal and the friendly service.

Tried them for fish fry for a first time. I could not believe how small the portion of fish was. The whole meal really. Also breading was nothing to write home about. Wouldn't recommend and won't be back.

Yum! Great neighborhood restaurant that's been around forever and has a loyal clientele. The open hours are few, the menu is solid, and the Notre Dame swag is abundant. Mr Gadawski, although in his 90s, still works the bar. Good spot.

Street parking was reasonably easy to find. We were seated way back in the restaurant and the seating was a little uncomfortable as our table was set up right next to the bar (but way too close to the bar, because our table was long) and other patrons had to constantly shimmy through a small gap between our table and the bar to get to the washrooms downstairs. Not great. We ordered a family style meals to share (combo for 2 and a combo for 4) and the amount of food that came out was probably enough to feed 10 very hungry adults. Definitely do not indulge on the bread basket that comes before the meal, because you will need to save room for the main event. The massive platters came loaded with pierogies, 2 different types of cabbage rolls (my favs!), schnitzels, and various condiments (?) of cooked beets, carrots, cabbages...etc. We were first served 1 different soups; white borscht and beet soup and both were tasty. The meat dumplings in the beet soup balanced out the sweetness of the broth and it worked well. I personally preferred the white borscht which was perfectly sour and a slightly over-powering sausage taste. The refreshing cucumber salad with dill in sour cream was a great accompaniment to somewhat heavy tasting meal. The hunters stew was a hearty bowl of tender morsels of meat, potato dumplings in a well balanced tomato based sauce. Although most of our food was great, we found the cabbage rolls (the traditional tomato version) and the schnitzels too dry. And along with the issue of having to deal with people constantly brushing by, I am taking away 2 stars. I may revisit Cafe Polonez if I'm back in the area, but not in a huge rush either.

The owner (I believe she is the owner) greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere. She brought us water and menus. My sister and I ordered 2 cabbage rolls, Potato and Cheese Pierogies, Meat Pierogies with bacon and onions to share. For my son, we tried ordering the schnitzel sandwich, but was told that was unavailable. My son doesn't eat mashed potatoes so I asked if I could just order him a schnitzel and she said yes. The food came out in about 15 minutes. The cabbage rolls were fantastic, the perfect amount of acidity in the sauce. I really don't like tomatoes or cabbage, but there is something special about the cabbage rolls. I ate very bit of mine. The pierogies were wonderful. I usually prefer just potato and cheese, but honestly between those and the meat, I couldn't decide which I liked more. Both were flavorful especially with the sauteed onions and sour cream. My son's schnitzel was huge! He could only eat about half of it and when my son asked for ketchup (much to my dismay) the owner was very nice about it and commented that's the way her daughter likes it too. Honestly the food was absolutely wonderful and the service was great. It was very similar to what I had in Poland. If this restaurant was closer to my home I would visit often. We had no issue with parking. We were able to get a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. Parking was also not too expensive since you aren't in the downtown area. In several instances, food was being brought out for only some people at a time for a few tables. Then by the time mine comes (and I'm starving btw), it's almost completely different than what was described on the menu, and even worse, the waitress didn't realize?! I ordered the Sto lat omelette because I'm Polish and love the flavor combinations of farmers cheese, sour cream and dill. Here's how the menu described it: "smoked kielbasa, bacon, farmers cheese, tomato, caramelized onion, mushroom sauce, sour cream, dill" What I actually got was an omelette with cheddar instead of farmers cheese, and no sour cream or dill. The added home fries and ketchup were a nice surprise though. When I made the waitress aware that this seems to be a different omelette than described on the menu, she said "there's only one omelette on the menu". I pointed out the swapped cheese and missing ingredients, and she asked if I wanted the kitchen to remake it, or just bring me the missing items. I said I'd be fine with being brought the missing items. So they brought me out a dill sauce (?), and sour cream (no farmers cheese). Then charged us full price, no apology. While I enjoyed the different omelette they brought, I was disappointed to miss out on the Polish flavors I was looking forward to. While the atmosphere is cool and maybe a drink at the bar would be fine, I absolutely will never come back for food.

While these don't have all of the characteristics you'd expect from a traditional Polish pierogi, they're still very good considering they're made by Ukrainians who were self-taught from the internet. I ordered 4 fried sweet farmer cheese pierogies ($8.99) and 4 fried spicy Buffalo pork butt pierogies ($8.99). They were small and although golden brown, still very soft for being fried. While Daisy sour cream was included, fried onions were not (although available as an add-on to purchase). The dough flavor and consistency was very good! And I commend their creativity with the fillings, including some traditional and non-traditional fillings. I was surprised that the farmers cheese was sweetened (I didn't see that they were sweet when I ordered them), so it was moreso a dessert pierogi instead of a traditional (savory) farmers cheese pierogi. They were still delicious though! The Spicy Buffalo pork butt was also great, and covered in hot sauce. This is a takeout restaurant, but they have four picnic tables outside (in the sun, without umbrellas). They have two windows for ordering: a self-serve kiosk on the left, and an ordering window with a real person on the right. However the menus are digital so with the bright sun, it was difficult to read. They really could improve the ordering experience by having paper menus available. Overall I'd recommend you stop by and support this new business. Although they're not the homemade Pierogies some Polish Buffalonians may expect, they have enough similarities to still be enjoyed by the harshest pierogi critics like me, as well as any normal person who would find them delicious as-is!
