A quaint diner style restaurant with lots of table and countertop seating. The staff is very warm and friendly. We enjoyed a relaxed lunch of chicken and gyro souvlaki. The meat was tender , esp. the chicken. They have a nice restroom and plenty of parking on site and across the street at the park. The French fries that accompanied our souvlaki were the basic frozen variety. I would have preferred a Greek potato or even rice as a choice. They have a large. When randomly picking a place, it's always a good sign when you pull up and the parking lot is full. Syros has all the charm and appeal of a local diner. Family owned or at least family run. Have been traveling for about a week and had all types of food and here we could get good Mediterranean food. Service was a little slow starting but hey, busy place at 1130. I used to like this place but the quality is slipping. I had a vegetable omelette with home fries. The home fries had quite a bit of crispy burnt potato dregs mixed in but then there was a piece of chicken and bacon in there too. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and this would have been a disaster for her. I didn't appreciate the bacon either. The manager owner needs to pay attention what's going on in the kitchenif he or she cares. read more

Sadly no photos for this review... I was too busy enjoying my company & conversation. The menu is chock-full of delicious Greek-American fare. Tempting spreads of hummus & tzatziki, stuffed grape leaves, burgers, seafood, and mouthwatering desserts. My companions enjoyed the half fish fry and shrimp dinners, each on an enormous plate and overflowing with sides. I couldn't help but "mmm" my way through a perfectly cooked chopped sirloin with grilled onions, a side of vegetables, and a rather large side salad with a portion of tzatziki as a treat. One companion enjoyed a slice of chocolate cream pie with a gorgeous cookie bottom crust and a cup of coffee for dessert. The only sad part about our visit, aside from being seated near the men's bathroom, was a delay in service the busier the restaurant became. Our server was extremely polite, was able to provide me with 3 refills of coffee, and took the best care she could. There weren't many places open in this sleepy town on a Sunday, but I'm glad we found this place. It has the look and feel of a classic Greek diner but they had some nice surprises. For example, mimosas for $4.50. And, they were strong! We had barely placed our order and started talking when our food was delivered. Seriously, it took about 5 minutes. My wife got the Greek salad with chicken. The chicken itself was a bit dry, but there was a massive portion of it. The dressing was very good, and the side of pita bread was a nice touch. I got the souvlaki breakfast, where I replaced the toast with pita bread, so I can make my own little gyros. The tzatziki sauce is mostly Greek yogurt, but it did the job. The home fries were good. We decided to add a side of fries, which turned out to be a great idea the fries are like the type they have at Rally's. Our waitress was also friendly, and very quick to refill coffee and add extra things when we needed them. And, the price is very reasonable. The only exception: each extra 2-ounce tzatziki sauce cup cost us $1.75. Ouch! Definitely a place to stop if you're in a hurry, we want to save some money and get some good food, but I think I'll skip the extra tzatziki sauce. read more

I've had Greek many times This is okay. But, maybe I just got too much, but the lemon or tartness on the potatoes was way over kill. Way too much. I could barely tolerate them. Also, when I walked in to pick up my take out order, there was a staff member discussing something with another customer right where the take out orders were sitting on the counter. Every town's gotta have a hometown greek-but-also-serves-diner-food diner, right? In Lewiston, this is it! We stopped in here for breakfast before attending the Tour of Homes before Christmas - the party I was sitting with was an entire family (my father's girlfriend's), so we had taken up at least five tables with 20+ people. Despite the huge party, the waitstaff had no trouble taking our food and drink orders, and accommodating us when more people arrived for coffee after breakfast. I had tea, as always, and ordered your basic eggs with toast, sausage, and home fries. Nothing terribly mind-blowing or memorable, but I definitely enjoyed my food. We didn't have to wait too long for all of our food to arrive, and it came all at once, so kudos to them! I don't think I'd travel all the way out to Lewiston just to come here, but would certainly enjoy meeting up here for a family breakfast like we had done before. I'd also be interested in eating here for lunch and dinner, however, as the food was pretty inexpensive compared to some of the other places in town! read more

This review is for breakfast only. After going to the Villa every time we have been in town for the last decade I asked our friends if we could try something different and Syros was suggested. At 8am on a weekday we were one of only two tables with guests. I'm not sure how the place can afford to stay open. The service was solid, but the food was at par with places like Shoneys, Bob Evans, Denny's and IHOP. Nothing was fresh. All tasted like it came off a food distributor's truck. The bacon looked microwaved. The potatoes were clearly sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long. Basically, it's an affordable, low grade breakfast. Ok, we're from out of town. Wanted dinner with a beer. They DO NOT have chilled glasses. Strike one. They didn't know what Delmas were but have stuffed grape leaves on the menu. Strike two. The Mousavi was ok, not great but ok. Not hot either. The lemon chicken soup was hot at least. The Greek Penne Pasta was a huge disappointment. Had it with chicken but the large chunks of chicken were dry, the pasta was tasteless. Left 3/4 of it on the plate. Menu says they have breakfast and we considered it before we got dinner as it is close to where we are staying. But after dinner not sure that they could cook eggs right. I had noticed it only has 3 stars before we went but thought that can't be bad, right. I now will put more faith in the ratings others have given. read more

My husband and I got takeout from here on a recent trip to the area where we were staying in a hotel close to this place. We arrived in the late evening and were tired, so ordered food to take back to our room and eat. It was fish fry night so that's what we ordered. The fish fry was decent - a little bit on the limp/ less crispy side, but okay. We were not thrilled to discover after he had returned with the takeout that the restaurant had neglected to put any plastic ware in the bag, or direct him to where he could get some. It was 10 pm and we had no utensils so we ended up having to eat the greasy fish with our fingers. I woke up several hours later feeling extremely sick and proceeded to deal with puking and stomach cramps for the next 6 hours. As the only other thing I had eaten in the last 24 hours was 2 Dunkin Donuts the previous morning, I figured I got a bad piece of fish. Great location (5 min from the American falls) great food, great prices and very generous portions! Very casual place, with Greek dishes and dinner-menu options. Was seated right away, and served within 25min of arriving . The server was soo sweet and made sure to stop in to ask if we needed anything else often. Everything else is just okay. The kalamari, wraps, or burgers are what I usually go for. The serving size is generous and the service is quick and friendly. There's also a small parking lot outside, which can fill up quickly, but there's street parking available as well. I've never had anything absolutely terrible here, and I think their quality is consistent.
