G&M did a full replacement of our old cast iron sewage pipes under our slab foundation. I'd definitely hire them again. They are a family owned company and went above and beyond helping us get our nasty old pipes replaced. They were always available to respond to calls, answer questions, and made me feel like a valued customer. Their bid was also less expensive than several others I got for this job. If you are thinking about getting your cast iron pipes replaced under your house, I'd look no further than these guys. They'll do right by you and bust their asses until the job is done. I had issues with my water heater. One plumber came and tried repairing the issue with duct tape. He then told us he had to go and get a part and repair would cost $850 total. Stunned, I called G and M. They came with a glowing recommendation from family in Austin. They sent a plumber who addressed the issue without "going to purchase additional parts." The charge was minimal. Two years later-still working great. Happy to give them the highest rating! read more

This would've been a positive review since they are friendly, but unfortunately they are not affordable. Their rate is $175 per hour, which is at the highest end that plumbers charge nationally. Based on what I see on Yelp, they used to be reasonable with cost but more recent reviews shows that isn't the case anymore. If you need any permits, be aware that something that cost them $50 was passed on to me as $200, and they weren't willing to give a lower rate. The plumber also originally mentioned a payment plan of some sort when I expressed concern about money, but that doesn't seem to be actually the case when I got the bill. I'm lucky it was a relatively small job to just do a gas pressure test, but the $625 total was after I've already been hit by so many other expenses after the freeze. Texas Gas also noted that the 8 PSI of pressure they used for a test was a lot more air pressure than required for a safety inspection. If they had used the required pressure, Texas Gas serviceman said that a small pressure leak wouldn't have occurred, which would've saved the effort they put in locating a leak that was never there since I've owned the house. It seems other plumbers may do this too, so you can try asking your plumber if they could just use the pressure actually required by the City of Austin. read more

G&M Plumbing (Joe Derusha) pulled a permit for a home I now own when a prior owner had a renovation done. We discovered that the permits from the remodel were left open, and when we sorted it out with the city of Austin's permit office, we were told by the city employee who managed this specific permit, "The plumber on this job quit." Fast forward another year or so, and a pipe falls off under the slab of our home, causing a leak, and, as it turns out, because it was never properly fastened to the tub. After a day of excavating the problem area, our current plumber tells us the pipes under the bathroom need to be completely redone, because they are not to code - lots of 90º angles, pipes sloping in the wrong direction, etc. Our plumber was really curious about who the hell did such a crappy job on these pipes the last time. I looked it up for him, and, according to the permit on file with the city of Austin, it was these people. Our current plumber maintains that if Joe Derusha took out the permit, it was on him to make sure appropriate work was done on this home, and to not walk away from work that he initiated. read more

As a previous loyal customer of G&M who has given them 5-star ratings not once by TWICE in the last 7 years, I've been unfortunately disappointed in their recent service. We suffered upstairs pipe damage as a result of the February 2021 Winter storm and like most of Central Texas, immediately called G&M to come out for repairs. We understood this would be a very busy time for all plumbers - and we waited our turn to be seen by G&M Pluming on Feb 24th. Eric came out to assess the damage to our upstairs bathroom (cracked cast iron pipe). This involved cutting several holes in the drywall to visualize the pipes - no problem. We figured we'd get an estimate within the following days and likely a wait to get on the schedule within a few weeks. It took many follow up calls and reminders, but eventually on March 8, 2021, we got an initial estimate. It didn't cover all the repairs we had discussed (such as replacing the whole cast iron line rather than patching one portion), so I immediately emailed G&M to try to clarify the estimate. After a follow up email and several phone calls in the following weeks, Sonny (who answers the phones) kindly apologized to me, but also shared that due to the sheer volume of customers after the storm, the team wasn't 100% sure they remembered my damage/repair needs accurately. Ok. No problem. I'm a loyal G&M customer and have worked with their family for years - so I'm completely sympathetic to this unusual situation. Again, weeks go by and I continually remind the team to find a time when Eric can come back out to re-assess the damage again (via the holes that are already there from the last time). This required several follow up calls and unfortunately an enormous amount of polite nagging on my part ("Hi there, its me again. Just checking to see when someone might be available to come back around..."). Eventually, May 6th, Eric returned to our home to re-reminded himself what the repair would entail. He was kind and apologetic about the delay and the lack of communication about getting on the repair schedule. He told me that he and Sonny would communicate immediately (as in, THAT DAY) about an updated estimate (two guys, 4 - 6 hours, PVC needed etc) and getting me on the schedule, sharing that they were running about 2 weeks out. No problem. I agree with all those things. One week passed. I emailed G&M to follow up (including lots of details about what Eric said was needed to schedule the repair) and left a voicemail to check in on scheduling. It is now May 18, 2021 (3 months following the Feb storm) and I'm no closer to getting back use of our upstairs bathroom. I still don't have an estimate OR a scheduled time to be seen. :( I finally threw up my hands and called Capital City Plumbing and Drain, who responded by sending out two technicians *the following day* to assess the damage and have scheduled my repair immediately (as in, less than one week). I'm not sure where the breakdown in G&M's system is - but I gave them 3 months and a lot of grace and patience to meet my needs. I love supporting small, family owned businesses like G&M, but the customer service experience this time was just not acceptable. I'm so bummed because we have recommended them to others on countless occasions! Hopefully my experience is a fluke but my experience as a long-time customer is disappointment. read more

So after having a positive experience with this company the first time, I got slammed when they called me with their invoice for the second call. Our plumbing problem was pretty simple: the kitchen faucet didn't have water pressure. The rest of the house did so I figured it was just that faucet. Eric came over. He was nice and he figured out that it was the filter on the faucet line. He cleaned it out and everything is great. However, I then got a call with the invoice. $175 for a 30 minute service call where he stuck a nail through my filter to clear it out. On top of that, NO ONE at all bothered to mention that $175 was their service call price. So for a ridiculously simple fix I am getting hit with $175 fee. They seem nice enough, but they need to be up front with customers about the price of their service call. If that's what they're going to charge, you might as well go with ABC some other big service. Also, at least the big places TELL you how much the service call is before they spring it on you days after the fact. I never would have called them if I'd have known it was going to cost me near $200 just to have them walk through my door. read more

After finding out we needed to replace our cast iron plumbing, and getting somewhere in the ballpark of SEVEN estimates, we chose G&M - their estimate was literally less than half of some of the larger companies, and they came highly recommended by two of our friends. We had to schedule pretty far out, but they ended up being able to start the work about a week early, which was nice, because we hadn't moved into our house yet. Lucy had told me we'd be able to live in the house while the work was happening, but I'm glad we didn't have to - there were at least two days where toilets weren't installed, but I'm guessing if we HAD been living here they would have remedied that more quickly. There are a few caveats - Gus was out of town when his crew started our job, and my hubs noticed that they had laid 2" pipe where there should have been 3". We alerted Sonny and they immediately changed course and fixed the issue. It probably lost them a day or at least a half day of work, but we wanted the 3" for future bathroom plans. And, the workers were a bit messy, but then again, they're plumbers. They left their work clothes in our backyard over the weekend, and we found trash a few places, but we figured it comes along with the territory, and since we were spending half of what we could have, it wasn't a huge deal. The toilet sitting in our master bedroom the first night we lived in the house wasn't ideal...lol, but it was replaced the next day. Surprisingly, they DID remove their shoes any time they entered our home - which was over the top, but certainly nice! Once Gus came back in town things got much better. In the midst of the big job we had him doing some smaller things that had come up in our inspection, and he even FOUND and FIXED a leak that we didn't know we had in our master bathroom - which will no doubt be saving us time, money, and major headaches in the future. Each time I added something to the list, he didn't bat an eye - he just got it done. Gus himself will tell you he's "not a drywaller" - so if they have to cut into something, just be aware you might want to hire someone else to fix it. He prides himself on plumbing, not drywall patching. (; I think with G&M the key is communication. There were a few things that might have been forgotten, but if I put a call in to Lucy or Sonny, it was no big deal, and got added to the list for the next day. I'd say for the money we saved, it was worth it to make a few phone calls here and there. Lucy did call to tell me when the engineer was coming out, etc, so those little heads up were nice. There were some spots where the old toilets were sitting on our relatively new concrete floors and left divots where they were sitting, but I blame myself for not having left explicit instructions to not set anything heavy on the concrete. Just communicate with them clearly and frequently and I believe you'll have an A+ experience. On the final day of the job, I left to run an errand for an hour or so. There was still dirt in the driveway and on the back patio when I left - things still needed to be finished. When I returned, everything had been swept and cleaned up - and minus the spots where we need to plant grass, I wouldn't have even known they'd been here. I'm not entirely sure they even made money on our job, with all the extras they ended up tackling - but I appreciate their hard work and dedication to doing the job right. So, when you have to get your foundation fixed, they DO NOT tell you that there is a VERY high probability that your plumbing is GOING to break. In my case, due to some poor decisions that the former home owner made, it was basically guaranteed to happen. And, not surprisingly it did. What this means, is that you need to call a plumber to run a camera through your plumbing and find out where it is broken. Mine was so busted that we basically had to move all of the plumbing outside. This is very bad news for the bank account and even worse for your morale. So I started calling plumbing companies and one that I won't name (read: Clarke Kent Plumbing) read to me from a script. It went a little something like this: Her: Clarke Kent Plumbing Me: Hello, I'm having my foundation repaired, and I'm going to need to schedule a static line test to see if my plumbing is broken. I don't need an appointment right now, but I want to find out if you do this, how much it costs, and what I would need to do to schedule it when we are ready. Her: Thanks for calling today. Our technicians have trucks stocked with all of the tools they need to get the job done. I'm going to need to get a little more information from you so we can schedule an appointment. BLAH. BLAH. BLAH. Me: I need a static line test. Her: Well, let's go ahead and get you scheduled for that. Me: I don't feel like we're having a conversation because I just told you want I needed and you are reading to me from a script. **Note: I called at least 5 plumbers or plumbing companies, and this sums up a number of the experiences I had. While relocating all of your plumbing costs a pretty penny (read: it costs about the same thing as repairing the d*mn foundation), one prefers to give thousands of dollars to someone that one likes. Oh, and someone, who is willing to quote you a ballpark price and talk to you like a human rather than a robot. Enter the hero, G&M Plumbing, stage right. If I've said it once, I'll say it a million times. If I have to pay someone my arm and both of my legs to fix my plumbing, at least it was Gus (and the rest of his trusty and professional family team - Lucy and Eric). Let's be clear - his price is very fair for what I needed fixed. This summer I have had Gus relocate my plumbing, install faucets in the kitchen sink and the bathroom sinks and showers, switch my stove from electric to gas, install my dishwasher, set my toilets, run a water line to the fridge, fix my hot water heater ... YOU NAME IT and it has probably been done at my house. Let's just stay that we we built a relationship. I've got the number to G&M Plumbing MEMORIZED ... 990-0505 ... to the point that I can tell you the number immediately. I recommended him to a co-worker who had a really good experience with a shower repair ... and the price was right. G&M was selected for the plumbing portion of our home's remodel (not our choice). We've been in the house almost two years, and we've had issues with several of the things they worked on and spent thousands of dollars correcting their work. Part of the remodel was to change from the home's original septic tank, to hooking up the house to city wastewater. In the process they damaged our sprinkler system twice and dug 50' of trench in the wrong direction, costing us time and leaving us with damaged landscaping for over a year. They installed Glacier Bay toilets, a manufacturer now out of business and the toilets are now difficult to find parts for. I've had to replace flushing mechanisms in both toilets. The kitchen fixtures were installed hastily with cheap parts, I've had to replace the faucet and hot & cold lines already. At most expense to me was their poor installation of the master bath sink and cabinets. They used an Ikea sink and cabinet set and installed it improperly around the existing drain for the sink. One night while my wife was brushing her teeth the sink and cabinets came off the wall, in the process showing that they installed the sink and cabinets with only toggle bolts into the sheet rock without any reinforcement (and almost crushed my wife's foot). Their price point comes in lower than everyone, so it's simply an example of "you get what you pay for". I would recommend looking for someone else for your plumbing services, their work is full of shortcuts that have cost us considerable time and expense only two years after their services. read more

It's too bad that companies like this tarnish there otherwise mostly good reviews by something so simple as not recording an appointment on a calendar. I spoke to a lady at their number, 512-990-0505, at exactly 4:33 pm on Friday, May 29, 2015 (thanks easy iPhone call log). I asked about scheduling an estimate for the installation of plumbing needed for a water softener install. She told me that they were all backed up due to the recent flooding, but that someone could come out the following Friday (today) between 8 and 9 am. I said that sounded good and to make the appointment. All good so far... I took off work this morning (no easy thing to do for me) to be at home waiting for the plumber. Nobody showed and nobody called. When I called to ask what the deal was, she (I think the same lady I'd originally made the appointment with) checked the schedule and I was told that I wasn't on the schedule but that someone could come out on Monday instead. No thanks. The lady was apologetic, but that does nothing for my time (and pay) that was wasted. If they can't record a simple calendar entry, I can't imagine what the plumbing work would be like. I cannot say enough good things about G&M Plumbing. If there was an option to give them a 6-star rating, I would choose it. I hired them to replace 2 sewer drain lines in my 1967 ranch-style home (slab foundation) and also to replace the drain line in the yard, from the cleanout to the street. They were able to start the job ahead of what I had originally anticipated, saving me a ton of stress and money. They also finished the job, including backfill of all holes and passing final city inspection, in under 1 week. In short, they were on it. I was amazed at how quickly and smoothly the entire process went. I have since called them out again to replace a leaky kitchen faucet - a smaller job which also went very smoothly. G&M has excellent customer service. They were prompt, efficient and completely reliable. We used G&M to completely replumb about 90% of our 1930s house. The pipes they removed were rusted cast iron and the sewer line was terra cotta! Their estimate was on point, they were so nice, good communicators, and I would absolutely rehire them. One great example of the care they took is that while the plumbing had to be replaced, the previous owner had installed new tile over bad plumbing. G&M was so careful with their work that we didn't have to replace ANY of the new tile that they worked around (there was a little bit of drywall repair but I'll take that over trying to match tile any day). read more

I was just coasting through a typical day when I was blindsided by a plumbing emergency! My entire master bath was flooded with standing water that appeared to be coming from the shower drain. In a panic I called half a dozen plumbing companies and NOT ONE could get to me until the next day. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? This is a freakin emergency!!! I have wood flooring directly outside the bathroom that I was terrified would be ruined by the water. Then I ran across G&M Plumbing on Yelp and gave them a call. I knew right away I was in good hands just by talking with Lucy. She seemed to understand the meaning of emergency and told me she would contact her tech and call me right back. Eric was here within 20 minutes and had the problem repaired in another 20. The price was very reasonable and Eric's demeanor was kind and professional. Then I even received a courtesy call from Lucy afterwards just to make sure everything was ok. She genuinely seemed interested in how I was doing and not just doing another task. They were to perform a hydrostatic test. This test determines if your house has a leak. They found a leak after looking through two traps. I called Thunderbird Plumbing for a second opinion. They discovered G & M tested half of the house. Thunderbird had to dig to find two additional traps. They found another leak. They pulled permits and completed the work within 4 days (testing through repairing 2 leaks, one under the slab). G&M scheduled us a repair 8 days after looking at half the house. While Gus was very nice and the work was not bad, it was just incomplete. read more

So I had to get my foundation fixed. If you have had this done, you know how stressful it is, so I won't go on. If you haven't........well.....good for you. Keep reading. After the foundation guys had worked their jackhammer ways for a couple of days, low and behold, there was a break in the plumbing. I stifled my tears and went to yelp. There I found G and M. I called and talked to Lucy. The conversation went something like this: Me: Hello? Lucy: Hi! Can I help you? Me: Yes. I'm having my foundation worked on and..(muffled tears)..The nicked a line. Lucy: OK. Are you alright? Me: Yes. (More tears) I'm just a little stressed out from the situation. I'm sorry. I have two preschoolers at home and.. L: It's ok! I understand. What do you need? Anyway. She was awesome. Totally talked me down from the ledge. She sent out Eric and he came an hour or so later to fix the problem. When another line was nicked a week later they came out again. Not only was it when I would have considered it to be "after hours" (5 o'clock) but they came quickly and didn't charge extra. The next week when it was time to do the pressure test, there was another problem found. Eric and Gus (his dad) came together and figured out what was going on quickly and with the least amount of stress for me and my family. I can't express how much I appreciate this family run business enough. Not only were they gracious and kind, but they were funny and easy to talk to. I ended up giving Gus one of my squash transplants to take home for his garden. Also. The amount of their final bill was a good 500$ less than I thought it should be. So. If you have an emergency or need any other plumbing thing. I highly HIGHLY recommend this family owned and operated business. I will go now and try to regroup. read more

We had good experiences with Eric at G&M at a house we rented and hired them to so some work at the new house we bought. We were scheduled for a 3 day job to install new gas service to an on-demand hot water heater, a stove and a dryer. We were pushed back 3 weeks, once for their failure to get a permit before work began and twice just because they were backed up. The work is messy and expensive. The receptionist is not friendly and the quote was for the wrong work. Finally, when it was finished, the first time the inspector came out to close out the permit, no one showed up to meet him, so he had to come back. Gus is a good salesperson and will make you think he can get the job done quickly and easily but I do not recommend G&M Plumbing. read more

G and M plumbing is a family-owned plumbing business for in and around Austin, TX area. Recently, I hired them to fix an immediate problem of a leak at my personal turnoff control near the curb. I live in an 82-year-old house. I have found that it takes special people to work on old houses. I realized right away that Gus, the patriarch of the family, knew what he was doing and that he understood old houses. He did a quick fix to stop the leak until we could schedule to replumb my whole house. He provided a fair bid and they started work the Monday after a holiday. Gus personally came out with another worker and started digging the main trench. A Big plus is that they dug under my stone front porch and they didn't have to remove any of the stones! All of the workers worked hard, efficiently and fast. My home is small, and the job was completed in a day and half. They never leave their customers without service overnight. Customer Service is excellent. Gus's son, Sonny, schedules the jobs, and his wife Lucy went above and aboard expectations by coming out to my house on the second day to make sure all my concerns were addressed. She was very helpful because all the workers (on the second day) only spoke Spanish. Lucy translated for me. My only minor concern was that the workers did not pay close attention to detail like completely filling the trench and leveling the ground. One worker helped me put steppingstones and things back in order. Also, workers could have taken more care in cleaning their areas. Overall, the extra efforts like replacing hoses on my washing machine and sending Lucy out to my house makes this company a 5-star company. read more

I called G&M on a Wednesday to make an appointment for the following Monday. They told me that someone would be out between 8 and 10 in the morning. When Monday came, my wife took the morning off from work to meet the plumber. When 10:30 came, the plumber had not arrived, and she had received no call telling her that there was a delay. She called the G&M office, but got no answer and had to leave a message. Finally, at 12:30, someone called and asked if we were ready for the plumber to come out, as if nothing was wrong. I told them that we would keep the appointment if they would waive their initial service fee. They refused, and I canceled the appointment. We were going to need work done, so in the end waiving the fee wouldn't have cost them a penny - it would have just been a sign of good faith. Obviously to me, my time didn't matter one bit to G&M, nor did keeping my business. I'll never use them again. read more

It's so hard to find a good plumber, but we did! We had a bathtub that needed new copper piping and some drain problems fixed, and G&M came out earlier than expected, gave me a quote right then and there, and was even able to do the work at that time. It was less expensive than we expected and done super quickly (and very well!). The plumber was really nice and explained everything to me, and even looked at a couple of other things I had questions about. I highly recommend them! The foundation repair company, Centex, recommended G & M to me to perform what I thought would be a routine pressure test that is required after foundation repair. I also needed a faucet replaced. Lucy at G and M quoted me their standard price for the pressure test , which was lower than the price quoted by the large plumbing company with the whole-page ad in the Yellow Pages that I had been using in the past. Lucy also gave me a very low price for the faucet replacement, since they would be at the house. It's plumbing! Combined with foundation repair! The routine pressure test turned into a 4-day job because the sewer line was broken under the house. The faucet repair was quickly finished, but the under-the-house work was extensive. Gus, Eric, and Lucy were always pleasant, willing to explain things, and hardworking! They might not even believe I noticed, because I was so stressed out! They were great to work with, even through my gloom at finding leaks and fixing them and then finding more leaks further under the house. One of the most outstanding aspects of G & M is Lucy, who takes care of the phone calls and billing. She was always easy to reach! She answered the phone! I called several times and reached her directly, and I think I might have reached her voicemail only once during that week, and she returned my call very quickly. Even after the job was done and I had paid, Lucy answered emails and phone calls when I had some questions about the billing. G & M helped me with an insurance claim by preparing a map of the sewer line. Lucy worked with email and pdf files. The paperwork was somewhat minimal and included a one-line disclaimer that no one could understand, written in "plumberese," I guess. Gus and Eric and their helper, whose name I didn't get, worked long hours to get the job finished. They let me watch their tedious work with the camera. They spent a long time looking through the pipes with the camera to find that last leak - they had to close off sections of piping with their tools to form pressured areas to figure out where the leak was - way under the garage at the far end of the house. They had to break through the concrete garage floor to fix that one. They patched the concrete very nicely. Finally the house passed the pressure test! I have to say I've never written a review but I own a company and I know how important a good review is today... I was so impressed and satisfied with G&M's services and rates that I have been referring them to everyone. I was in the process of selling my home and I have an old house. The buyers decided to do a hydro static test to see the condition of the pipes and my home failed. I had to have all my pipes replaced and they had to excavate under my home to do the work. After getting a few estimates and reading reviews I decided to use G&M. We had to have the work done in about 3 1/2 weeks and not only were they able to do the work for me, they got it done ahead of schedule. They also left everything back in place looking ready to sell.
