Needed a place close to work as I didn't wanna rent a car nor deal with the hassle or ubering it. Good thing my insurance found these guys. Met with Eric who is awesome and has the craft in the trade when it comes to customer service. He explain the process, timeframe and ask if it was ok to text to provide updates. When they did remove the bumper, there was additional damage in which Eric didn't text it but personally called me to tell me that and to extend the time it would be ready. i got my truck towed there and a couple weeks went by without hearing anything so I called. Rory said that they couldn't start my car, so I said it was probably the battery because it had been sitting for a while. a couple more weeks went by and I called again, Rory said that my truck had an electrical problem and that they had tried a new battery. after two months I went down to check on my truck; they had thrown an energy drink can in the bed and broke the hood latch. I put a new battery in and it started right up. they lied to me for months and were trying to get me to get a $700 diagnostic that insurance wasn't going to pay for. and when I caught them lying they just kept lying. i asked them to pay for a tow back to my house and sean refused to pay for it. I lost work because I didn't have my truck and they lied to me and the insurance company. crooks. absolute crooks. and there's no recourse besides leaving a review. read more

I got rear-ended on the Bay Bridge and my back bumper and trunk lid were dented. My car insurance (Allstate) sent me here to get a quote. The process to make an appointment was easy - I was able to make it the next day. Eric helped me throughout the process. He was very professional and helpful the whole time. Had my Tesla model 3 in here after I got rear ended. The body shop damaged the carbon fiber rear spoiler when they removed it, then installed the damaged spoiler back wrong (there's not meant to be a quarter inch gap at the top of the spoiler - catching air is literally the opposite of what it's meant to do.) they also damaged the emergency door release latch and tried to hide the damage by putting the loose piece back on. This has been going on since February and they still haven't rectified the problem. Wouldn't recommend them; make sure you carefully inspect your car when you get it back, and NOT just the parts they repaired. read more

This place is terrible! Half the work gets done in an unreasonable amount of time and communication is nonexistent. I highly recommend you find somewhere else! For context I was involved in an accident in January and was sent to this auto body to get work done.. they started off with having me wait forever for some parts they ordered and during that wait period I wasn't getting updated on anything. I had to wait so long my insurance couldn't cover my rental and i had to use a friends vehicle for a fee.... eventually after countless calls and complaints they finally told me they fixed my car after more than a month and i picked it up. Upon picking it up it looked fine on the outside, but when i started driving on the highway I started hearing concerning noises coming from the wheel that was hit in the accident. I called them to voice my concerns and was told it's not their problem and I have to talk to my insurance about it... so i called them and they communicated with the auto body and after a few times of me calling and being ignored and a ton of back and forth, I was finally able to take my car to them. I wasn't provided any rental from my insurance or from them so i had to continue using my friends vehicle. Now after giving them the vehicle the 2nd time.. this is when the communication somehow got even worse. The person answering the phone would start telling me they'll have the person in charge of my car get back to me which never happened. It eventually turned into them completely ignoring my calls and I had to physically show up at the auto body to hear anything about my car... After all this back and forth and complete mess of an experience i FINALLY got my car back. Now that i've had time to fully inspect my vehicle, there are a handful of issues. Some parts are put on there unevenly, like it was done by someone who's never worked on a car before. The biggest one was a big problem I had with the passenger side door, it was bent on the bottom corner and the wouldn't close properly, they actually did fix it but they didn't even attempt to fix it cosmetically. The nasty bend is still there and at the end of it all it was just a terrible experience. I highly advise everyone to put your money elsewhere as you'll likely deal with what I had to deal with. 1/5 stars for me. read more

After waiting a month to bring my car in for an estimate, I waited two more months for them to give me an appointment to get the car repaired. They never contacted me. The first time I went to this shop was a couple of years ago to get my driver's side mirror replaced. Long story short, they installed the wrong part that was missing features. They did fix it with no additional cost to me, but the whole thing meant I had no car for a few extra days. I went back again in February this year for a little fender bender. The guy took took photos and put together an estimate. A few days later, a women from the shop called me, asking me to come in for an estimate...? I explained I had already been in and one taken, but she had no record of it. So I scanned the paper estimate the guy had given me and emailed it in. She had never heard of the guy whose name was on my estimate (Anthony)??? I tried to describe him to her, and she said, oh, that guy (Paul), he doesn't work here anymore?? Like what is going on here?? Then, because of the parts shortage they weren't making any more appointments for this month as of that day, even though my estimate was taken a week ago! She said they would call me in April, three weeks later, to make an appointment. A week into April and no word from them, so I gave up and reached out to another shop like I should have done originally. By the way, that other shop's estimate? It was literally 1/3 the cost of G&C's estimate. The women I talked to on the phone was very nice but not even her lovely disposition can save this train wreck of a shop. read more

I brought my Tesla here after it was in an accident, and it was a total nightmare dealing with this place. I chose them because they were in my insurance company's network, which was a huge mistake. They were also Tesla certified (on Tesla's collision support website). They were disorganized from the start. The biggest problem is that they would forget to provide an update or a response when they said they would. I often wondered "what is going on?" They first estimated the damage, then ordered parts. Interestingly, Tesla sends it's customers emails (with weekly updates) about ALL parts which are ordered by repair shops for your VIN, with dates the order is placed, and all the part numbers on the order, along with shipping date, est. delivery date, and tracking information showing actual delivery dates for each item in the order. I found this super helpful! I was then able to see the parts were ordered a week later than which they said it was. And I could also see when the parts had finally arrived. After a few days I decided to call since it had now been an entire month since the parts were ordered and Tesla shows everything delivered. I called to find out, and at first they said they didn't know where the parts were. They followed up later to let me know all the parts were there and someone would call me to schedule the work for the repair soon. Another week goes by and still nothing, so I call back. Now they said the parts are not there yet. I still receive email updates from Tesla, but nothing has changed, and all parts still showing as delivered a week prior. I happened to check Tesla's collision website and noticed that this place was no longer listed. Apparently no longer certified by Tesla. I was fed-up by this point. I wasn't going to have my car repaired by these people who I obviously don't trust. At this point they wanted me to pay for and take delivery of the parts they said were delivered. After some back and forth with the my insurance company and a different body shop, I was informed that they because they hadn't submitted any paper work to the insurance company, and since I hadn't signed anything, I didn't need to pay for anything. Needless to say I ended up not getting the car fixed at this shop after all. In the end I couldn't bring myself to leave my car at a place that I didn't trust. I found a new place and the difference was much better. read more

He spent 20 minutes looking at my car, and then said they would call me. Crickets. They never called. I called my insurance and they said they absolutely should have kept my car. Best Body Shop I've ever been to!! G&C only took 2 days from start to finish. I got the estimate and dropped my Tesla Model 3 off same day for the repairs. A day later it was ready to go. Everyone was friendly and ready to help me. Before G&C, I was stuck in a two month loop with another body shop Chain sending me all over the Bay for estimates. I cannot speak to the quality of the workmanship of this shop, but service is abysmal. Don't waste your time here. I first contacted G&C for a consultation on June 28 2023 and took their first available appointment two weeks later. After bringing my car to the shop for an estimate, about two weeks went by and I heard nothing. I called their main customer service team who told me the estimator was busy and would call me back as soon as possible. I heard nothing back and had to follow up with the customer service team twice and threaten to take my business elsewhere before being patched through to my estimator. Angela was apologetic, looked into my file and saw that a hold was placed on my claim by my insurance. She gave me her cell phone number on a Friday and assured me she would be in touch the following Monday. She provided me with an estimate and I sent her a text approximately one week later to ask how to move forward with the repair. I texted her direct line on Friday August 18th. It is now August 23rd and I have not gotten any response. I reached out to them two months ago and nothing has been done. An appointment hasn't even been set for me to bring my car in. I don't write negative reviews and would just take my business elsewhere. I can forgive supply chain issues and worker shortages. My saga started in August, 2022. The lack of follow up, from the current shop manager, Sean is unforgivable . The receptionist is great, but she can only do so much! I had a repair completed during the summer. When I picked the car up, one of the trim pieces was loose and detached from the door. Sean quickly had it repaired while I was waiting, but it got loose by the time I arrived home. I also noted that the trim pieces were not aligned on from the driver to rear passenger door. I called and was asked to bring it in (a $$ Lyft ride). Left it and called after the car had been sitting there for at least a day. It was apparent that Sean hadn't looked at it until my call. He told me they would have to order the part and I could pick the car up (another $$ Lyft ride). After waiting two weeks, I called again. It was apparent that Sean had not followed through. He said he would be on it and to give him a week. That was a month ago (we are now in toward the end of December (remember this started late August). I have called Sean three times and he has not accepted or returned my phone calls. My car is a Prius, but I noted several Tesla's in their repair bay. God help them. Avoid this place. read more

avoid this shop if you value your time, sanity or dignity. If you have the misfortune of being a G&C customer, here are some tips: - they will not get it right the first, second, or third time - when you ask them to do the job right, they will try to argue and weasel out of it - if they ask to put you on hold, you might as well hang up and call back later At first, I thought I got lucky - I found a convenient local shop that will talk to my insurance for me. They have a widely known name and are recommended by insurance companies. Surely, this would be well worth the money. I thought wrong. Not only did they consistently ignore glaring issues, they wasted my time over, and over, and over again. Something as simple as a headlight required me to return to their shop twice, and even argue with their shop manager that headlights are to be aimed according to specification. They hung up on me more than 3 times, and simply forgot that I was put on hold on multiple occasions. When I arrived at the shop for the third time I was told that they couldn't provide me a ride home or to work, and that if I left the shop they wouldn't work on my car. This is after I called and was told me to come in that day for a drop off. They forgot I was on the schedule and tried to blame me for it. Their shop manager stood there and tried to suggest I just showed up 9am on a Friday of my own volition, demanding they work on my car. As if I would waste paid hours of my time dealing with their careless and unprofessional service. Instead of offering an apology for doing the job wrong multiple times, I was called rude, and numerous excuses were hurled at me for simply wanting my bumper on with no gaps, and my headlights both aimed level. The shop manager tried to tell me "it's up to you how you like your headlights aimed" as if having one aimed level, where it's supposed to be according to the manufacturer, and the other pointed at the ground is in any way acceptable. Just remember when they show you the work they did on your car - these people are professionals. Do not hold them to the amateur standards that they set for themselves. This shop is obligated to return your car to its original condition (prior to the accident). Don't take your car back unless that obligation is met. Your biggest bargaining chip is literally the inconvenience of your car being in their way. If you want them to get it done right and in a reasonable amount of time you might as well leave it at their shop. It is more than worth it to pay a little extra, or drive a dented up car for a little while longer if it means you can take it to any body shop other than G&C in Berkeley. ANY. OTHER. SHOP. Save yourself the headache. And to the fine, fine folks at G&C - here is a hint: GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Your work speaks for itself. If you're happy sending cars out of your shop with bumpers sagging, gaps in the panels, and cross eyed headlights, don't be surprised that your reputation is in the gutter. read more

I selected this location because it was a Tesla certified shop and a preferred vendor for my insurance company. I had the misfortune of having my window smashed in and the door had been scratched up in the process. Things went fairly smoothly and they do communicate well, that is up until I went to pick up the car. Got there and did my walk around, the paint looked good, but my taillights were not seated correctly. Significant gaps that you can fit a finger tip into along with significant dirt and debris in the trunk and sub trunk including a full on boot print in the sub trunk. They got to fixing the issues right away. Things look good and they say I'm good to go, only a quarter mile away I start getting multiple error codes going off every minute about unrecognized charging device. I take it back and they once again tell me I'm good to go. Another quarter mile down the road and the error codes are back. Two hours into my pick up and now the heart of rush hour traffic they tell me it's not getting fixed tonight and needs to go Tesla for service. This is a brand new car with less than 1300 miles on it at this point. I take an extremely expensive lyft home and have to return the next day. They did get the issue corrected the next day, but I have to say I expected better from a Tesla certified shop. They were extremely apologetic and hearts in the right place but none of that makes up for wasting my time and improperly fixing the issue. I'm sure they do great work on standard ICE vehicles, but not where I'm likely to take my Tesla in the future. My issues have returned, instead of taking this to Tesla as we had agreed on they had their tech perform the service and "fix it". I'm getting fresh new charging issues and have to bring it in yet again. Seriously Do Not Bring Your Tesla Here. read more

They not only navigated their business with me with a level of discrimination, but they also did not acknowledge their fault and fix the damage that they did. Jeremy was the worst. They damaged my radio screen of my Lexus and now refuse to fix it. I have already reported them to the BAR and I am exploring legal representing. As a woman of color this is not okay. At the end I may not get my screen repaired but I will let them know that a woman of color deserves the same level of respect as what they see when they look in the mirror.
