4.3 For most, this is a sketch neck of the woods but it's surely taking a turn. Our first time stopping in and the place is still only 6months young and I've heard great things. My better half and I had brunch at the bar. We were greeted and served by friendly folk. I wondered about the Texas theme out loud and some nice dude behind the bar being productive and staying busy happened to here my inquisition and filled me in. That random dude was the owner. I appreciated the tid bit and the suggestions he gave on the menu. "Get a piece of chicken." I did. I had The Bud, a fucking delicious chicken biscuit. Pictures I'd seen depicted a large piece of chicken and a small biscuit. This was exactly that. I was concerned about how the biscuit would hold up to the chx and it passed with flying colors. It stayed in one piece without crumbling until the last bite. The shit was tender, juicy, flaky, buttery, spicy, etc. I expected it to be good, but it was awesome. I inhaled it in two minutes. The grits ruled. Solid beer choices. The nice feller who owned this joint recommended getting a piece of chicken before leaving, I got a chicken breast. WOW, best fried chicken in Richmond?! Probably so and I'm not being sarcastic one bit. My waistline is going to grow a size or two over the coming years and I don't care. This spot will do well. I can't wait to check out a show. I have been here twice now and really enjoy the atmosphere, it's not too crowded, the decor is really fun and quirky. They have pretty decent drink deals on Wednesday Thursday and Friday. As a vegetarian they have two different options and I have tried both of them, although I think it is a rotating menu. The food is okay from the vegetarian perspective. Seems like the meat options are probably better, and according to my meat eating husband they are quite good. Fun little place that's gives a very Richmond hipster experience. Also their customer service is off the charts, very attentive and check on the tables regularly. read more

Came for the Hot Tomato Summer - stayed for the vibe !!! Beetlejuice on the vintage tv (like the big ones teachers rolled in on carts in the 90's), rock n roll music, and what looks to be a dry cleaner conveyor belt with colored lights. Service was fast and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed my fried green tomato biscuit with slaw (and duke's, of course). The grilled cheese with avocado and tomatoes was also primo!!! Great spot for Northside! We love walking here from the neighborhood. They have two patio tables, which are great during COVID times, and well spaced seating inside. Other things we love here: the happy hour, the live music, brunch, and the homemade salsa. read more

There has been only one time I have been here, so I do not have a fully grasp on all aspects of this location, but I had a positive experience here. We came here on a weeknight to enjoy some drinks, it is within walking distance so that's nice. There was a band playing but they didn't go on until late, and we had left by then. There are cocktails, beers, and other drinks here, as well as food. The menu is kind of small, but I appreciate this because it shows they are trying to make the food really good, and focus on a smaller menu. It did take awhile to get a drink at the bar, but this wasn't a major issue since we weren't in any hurry. You order food and drinks at the bar and can sit at a high top table. I am interested to come back and check it out again, the beers we had were cheap, from the bottle, and did I say cheap? I would be willing to try the food the next time I come, but one in our party said the chicken was really good. read more

Fuzzy Cactus just opened and it is pretty nice. They are trying to be a bar and a live music venue. I understand that there are cover charges when bands are playing. The interior is attractive with a cool vibe. It's a lot nicer inside than any other bar or restaurant in Battery Park. They have a pool table in the corner. This place is more of a bar than a restaurant. They have a very limited menu, and they don't provide table service. Your get your own water of an Igloo water cooler in the corner and order your food and drinks at the bar. The food offerings consist of fried chicken, chicken wings, dirty rice, nachos, and salads. They have a few craft beers on tap, with a selection of cheap bottled beer including Lone Star. Overall, I was very impressed. The prices were very affordable and the food was good. I would definitely recommend checking it out. read more

This place is such a gem in the neighborhood! The chicken sandwiches are all delicious and the vegan queso is something I dream about because it's so good! I like that I can get anything from a cheaper draft beer to a gorgeous custom cocktail-- there's a drink for every mood and occasion. Pair all drinks with nachos! You won't regret it. The other bartender who served us " fixed" it. $44 and we left a $10 tip only for them to still steal and charge us $75 after we left. Volunteering at BO Elementary school my volunteer partner and I needed lunch. She found within walking distance was Fuzzy Cactus. They are know for their fried chicken and definitely should be know for their unique decor and ambiance. Looking at the menu, I was interested in ordering al la carte, a chicken thigh, and a small side salad and debating about a biscuit, but this day they offered a chicken box special where you're served three pieces of chicken one side and one biscuit for $10. That equaled the same price as my chicken thigh, side salad with house dressing, and debated biscuit. My biscuit left much to be desired It was cold and seemed to have been sitting. The side salad with house dress was tasty, fresh vegetables and delicious house dressing. Oh boy... THAT FRIED CHICKEN...OH BOY!!! Absolutely, ummm, um delicious. It was fried perfectly, the perfect amount of batter, the perfect amount of crisp, the perfect amount of spice, it was just perfect. Fuzzy Cactus seems to be a nice place to go, hang out, experience a new setting, and enjoy what's around you. Also, shout-out to our server: BAR PM 2 (name on my receipt). There's something to be said about having a neighborhood bar. There's something to be said about any venue that isn't one thing or another. FC has its own vibe, which to me is very rock n'roll, but also a casual and fun place to just hang out. The food is fantastic, although I hope they add more items in the future. The drinks are well made and quite tasty. Mel and Allie are attentive and absolutely fun bartenders. I love that I can go and see a show or hear a DJ on any given night, an all around cool neighborhood haunt. read more

The food is okay (I've tried the chicken tenders and nachos), drinks and entertainment are the real reason to go. Before COVID started they had an eclectic recurring drag show with many local queens as well as other local musical acts. Nice funky neighborhood zibes.
