This place used to be my go to for both my pets as it is located right next to my building. I had a good rapport with the owner until one day when I wanted to return some clothing that did not fit my dog. He and I had already had a conversation in regards to me returning these items however they were schedule conflicts. Apparently the owner is the only one who can process returns, and the times that he would be there I'd be at work so it's kind of hard to get to the store if I'm at work but he didn't seem to logically think about that the day that he cursed me out.. I was extremely offended and actually hurt behind this because I actually really like this place and thought that the guy that run it were very nice guys; essentially he was upset because I had bought the clothes about a month prior from the day that I actually came in to return them; As I stated, my job comes before anything; however, it wasn't a matter of me, not coming at all, because I actually did come by the store several times within the month time span however, every time I would come, he wouldn't be there and one of his brothers was- each one of them always quick to tell me he can only process returns. The things that he said to me and called me were disgusting and rude and I would never step foot in the store again I've spent so much money at the store. It's ridiculous, and the fact that he had the audacity to talk to me that way all because we had schedule conflicts? Unprofessional, disgusting, rude, and disrespectful. I am going to make it my business to review this company every way possible and let everyone know about my experience because it really disappointed me. I was honestly a favorite customer for a very long time so if he could do that to me , someone who has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars at this store, be careful what he may do to you or anyone else for that matter. I always get good vibes here from the kind owners and the awesome shop cats. Decided to write a review today because this shop is a literal lifesaver right now. My 16 year old kitty has been very sick and we have been struggling to get her to eat. They have such a great selection of brands here, which has been useful for trying lots of different foods. Lots of different flavors of Natural Balance, which seems to be her favorite thing to eat right now, but also other great choices - Hound & Gatos, Merrick, Instinct, Rawz, Stella & Chewy, Blue Buffalo, Weruva, Tikicat, Koha, Ziwi Peak, plus Royal Canin, Hills, and Fancy Feast, and probably lots more that I can't remember. Great selection and friendly staff. If you need something and they don't have it, they'll order it for you. They support the local cat rescue groups with adoption events and donating food (if your cats don't like something, bring it back to give to a shelter). I used to get my dog's food on Amazon Prime, but the service and selection at Furry Fiends is completely worth paying a few extra cents for. Amin the owner is kind and generous, always going out of his way to help customers. My dog eats Taste of the Wild, and not only does FF have it, but they have 5 different flavors plus the corresponding cans of wet food! Most stores only carry one or two flavors, and I've rarely seen the wet food available. My dog loves the variety! Absolutely wonderful place. Highly recommended. read more

I've been buying food and supplies for my dog, from this store for a few months. For a small shop, they have a great selection. The prices are good (better than other nearby shops). The most endearing quality is the friendly staff. After only one visit, the fellow behind the counter remembered me, my fiance, and every detail about our dog. I've talked to some of my dog owning neighbors, and they've all reported the same experience. Furry Friends is the kind of business that makes you want to tell the world about them. I was just in here as I saw online that they had Bravo Balance raw food there and it's just a nice-day walk distance from my house. They didn't have much selection of Bravo, but they did have a lot of other raw pet food for cats and dogs, organics, grain frees, plus the usual stuff like Friskies. The shop is small and a little cramped feeling for me but not unusual for shops around here. Lots of food, snacks, some toys and leashes and such as one would expect. I was kind of lost while looking through the raw cat food freezer options since they only had one flavor of Bravo and it was beef... I'm just about to start transitioning my cat over and read that poultry flavors are best to do so with, in general so that was out... I was reading bags and pamphlets and such as some of the names I recognized as good options from online reading and some I didn't. I finally settled on a chicken one and took it up to the front. The man was very friendly and gave me some input on raw diets for cats and that I should try the other size of food than I had... I'd grabbed the "medallion" size which is little hunks of food and he suggested for a cat to try the "bites" size which is smaller and closer to dry kibble foods tend to be. The price was comparable to what I'd expected from online, no huge markup there. I'll definitely go back there for supplies, whether if it's for this food or another or other items. They were very nice, helpful, and good stock available. read more

The store clerks/owners (2 guys in their early 20s) refused to wear a mask. When I asked them they said they are not sick, and they are not going to inconvenience themselves by wearing one. They added that I (the customer), already had one so they really don't need it. They are not only defying state and local orders by their actions but they are incredibly disrespectful towards customers. The store is very small and cramped, you can't keep a distance from them during checkout or if you have to pass them in the isles. read more

The shop owner has a friendly disposition, he's professional, and makes his patrons feel welcomed. He is extremely knowledgeable and always has a willingness to assist or offer advice to his customers. The product selection is quite extensive on par with the product assortment found in stores located in Chelsea or Greenwich Village. I am glad to give Furry Friends my business. His employees however, are not of the same caliber. The staff are not polite nor rude but unapproachable. On the few occasions when the staff is managing Furry Friends and I request their help (mostly pertaining to where a certain product is kept on the shelves). I get the impression that I'm interrupting the completion of a task or I'm distracting them from their phone screens. Fortunately the owner makes up for the staff's shortcomings and permits me to look past the negative. If you have the pleasure of shopping while the owner is managing the store and need help or advice ...GREAT!!! If not, please do your homework on products or find answers to pet concerns prior to shopping because I am not confident you'll get very far with the store clerks. read more

Furry Fiends (no, that is not a typo) is, by far, the best pet store in Northern Manhattan. My two dogs and I have been living in Inwood for 4 years and they were a blessing since day one. Their customer services is always top notch and they have the best selection of dog food, treats (the freeze dried liver treats for dogs are AMAZING!), toys, and other pet "maintenance" items. Their delivery service is also great. I've always gotten my orders within a couple hours of calling in. They are also incredibly welcoming to all pets. However, there are a couple cats that live in the store, so if you have a pet that isn't great with cats, I would advise against bringing your pets in there. The only other thing I would mention is that Furry FIends is a little pricey. But since it's a locally owned business, I'm more than happy to pay the extra few bucks to support the community and avoid having to go all the way down to 96th street to go to PetCo. read more

I've always loved this store since we moved into the neighborhood 2 years ago. We pop in, infrequently to say hello, buy some food or cat supplies or just to pet Ezekiel the cat. Today - they just completely blew me away and made me feel so proud to live in Inwood. I left my husband in our 4th floor walk up with our cat, screaming for food as I went to work. He thought he'd hobble downstairs at some point to get her food. I gave Furry Friends a call and while I felt horrible asking them to deliver just 12 cans of cat food, they were SO GREAT! They said they'd deliver food to him within the hour and did not charge us a fee or any minimum. Thank you guys, from the absolute bottom of my heart. We'll be back! read more

My husband and I recently switched our 10 year old dog's food from a grocery store brand recommended by our former (ex) vet's assistant to natural premium holistic select at the recommendation of the staff at this lovely shop. Since then our dog is brighter-eyed, has lost weight, has a glossy coat and is more energetic. //Every single time we've stepped into or called this shop, we've had only the very best experience. The owners and staff love and know animals (and people), are always friendly and create a great neighborhood vibe that seems to make shoppers chat together at checkout. The owners seem to know a lot of the shoppers' pets by name. When we cannot carry home the 15lb. dog food bag, the staff eagerly accomodates with home delivery and Furry Fiends offers us the option to pay with a card or cash for free delivery. (But we tip.) Also, I have to validate the previous reviewer's remark that the shop is well stocked with affordable but healthier options. They also order items that you want. read more

I can tell you from firsthand experience that FF absolutely deserves every star it gets on Yelp. Amin is without fail one of the most helpful business owners I have ever encountered. He consistently goes out of his way to serve his customers, with a fantastic proactive attitude, often anticipating your needs even before you do. If he doesn't already have the product your pet needs, he will get it for you - then follow up with a phone call as soon as it's in stock. The fast, free delivery comes in darned handy as well. The product selection is very good, the prices reasonable, and the service is outstanding. What more could you want? read more

Me and my girlfriend are new to the area and we were losing hope that good people existed around us....then we found Furry Fiends. We got our little cat neutered with the ASPCA's mobile veterinary clinic that pulls up outside this store front earlier that day. He was not happy with his cone. I called these guys up later that day begging for advice, I've seen some of the other reviews and they are VERY true. They offered me a more comfortable collar for my cat and BOOM my cat calmed down ate a little and fell asleep. They even had that special litter 'Yesterday's News' I'm not sure if the actual product is great but.... If YOU are a pet owner that just had their pet go through a surgery of any kind THESE ARE THE GUYS TO HELP YOU AND PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE!!!!! The place is clean, organized, inviting. I was thrilled to find that this store opened a new location on Broadway between 163rd and 162nd. It is a real time saver from the trek to pet smart or petco further downtown and it has a small but reliable collection of cat food. I love that they also have free delivery if you need it. The store also provides traction for the Joey Project which is a good option for spay and neuter in Washington Heights, a neighborhood with serious issues around animal abandonment. As a cat rescuer and friend of same, I gladly welcome any support for the cause. read more

Awesome store and people. Highest quality of pet products. Highest quality of service as well. I shop here every week for my cat Boss Moe (Momo) and have done so for 5+ years. They keep offering to deliver whatever I want for free but have never taken them up on their offers. I know that I can call ahead and they will compile my order so it's ready when I arrive. But I never do. Instead, I usually double park when I take my car. (It's an Inwood neighborhood tradition.) But I'm back in my car in no time. Sometimes I walk the 20 minutes to the store for exercise. Anyway, everyone is always friendly and helpful. The store owner, Amine (sic?), is extremely personable, laidback, and knowledgeable about pet health and nutrition. The store itself is attractive, well-lit, clean, and well organized. I am so devistated that this AMAZING store was lost to our neighborhood due to the fire last Tuesday night. I'm so happy to read (see Rachel's review below) that the cats were rescued. But I'm now at a loss at where to buy my dogs supplies. The staff here were so personable. They remembered me and my dog not just by face, but by phone number when I called! I sincerely hope that they get insurance money to reopen in the neighborhood. It'd be a real loss if they went somewhere else or didn't open again.
