Two words: Ramen Burger. As someone that waits on hour-long lines for a ramen burger at Smorgasburg, I could not believe it when I saw that this place served the elusive Ramen Burger. I called up in advance to make sure my eyes didn't deceive me. Sure enough - it's real, and it's spectacular. Only small complaint is that they used to serve it with fries, apparently, and stripped that away. When I arrived, I was expecting a line out the door for the famous Ramen Burger, but thankfully the wait wasn't too bad. We had a nice experience here. Called ahead on a Saturday night for a group of 6. We were able to get in the queue for a 7 PM slot. Our table was ready as soon as we were there. It was pretty busy when we got there so service was a little slow but our waitress was super nice. We tried the shumaj and pork fried dumplings. Both were good. Our food came out soon after. Met a friend for dinner Tuesday after work at 4:30 got right in and seated. Place is small, just a few tables, and close seating. Waitress was incredibly nice, and explained the menu. I had the chicken Hibachi and a spicy chicken appetizer, both were out of this world delicious. Also had a cup of hot tea while my friend had root beer, full bar so you can get just about anything. Price seemed high, but food & service were great so no complaints. Am always skeptical when I go to places on Park, but this is a definite return in my book, cannot say thank you enough for a delicious hot meal. I'll most definitely return. read more

Located in Park Avenue, this is a Japanese fusion restaurant featuring some unique and delicious eats including lettuce wraps, ramen burger, and some interesting Ramen combinations. The service is good, but the restaurant is a little cramped, but I love the wall murals of Japanese modern yet historical art. The bar looks well stocked. Appetizers: Lettuce Wraps; this is a heavier dish than I would have preferred. The chicken inside is oily but delicious; was it the mayo and oil? If you like your savory, sweet, and oily, then this is the dish to get. Thank goodness it is paired w/ that iceburg lettuce to give it a refreshing spin. Otherwise, by itself it would be a little sickly. Pork Belly Buns: Pork belly is good in marination and texture; I do wish its presentation was a little better; could use a bit more color like greener Cilantro/scallion or something or even bright purple cabbage. Everything looked a little wilted and sad looking on the white bun. Otherwise a safe bet that is solid in taste. The plate choice was too large for 2 buns which made the plate look a little sad and lonely. It was almost as if though I wanted to add some side sauce to make up the emptiness of that dish. Pork dumplings Got the steamed variety; also good; I don't recall it being super memorable but it was a safe bet to get. Ramen: I have to be honest, I don't quite like their ramen. I think their textures, protein choices, and presentation is frankly messy both in palate and in flavor. For example, they really like cabbage here. I mean, if you love cabbage, great, but I remembered thinking to myself each time, gosh, is this a ramen soup or a cabbage soup w/ some noodles? I think their meat choice is also interesting; most ramen come with a2 pork slices which I think is neat and holds together better. Having pellets of chicken/pork was a little disruptive to the chopstick and ramen noodle. It felt messy and I found myself using the spoon to eat toppings and the chopsticks for ramen. The experience was just disjointed. The flavors were not bad, just a little difficult to eat with too much cabbage, strange meat size/choices, and toppings that were a little messy. Ramen burger; if you've never had one, I recommend ordering one here. It is fun. The ramen was cooked in water/broth first and then slightly fried on the outside to dry out and maintain shape to be a bun. That's right, the ramen is the bun of this burger. The sauce that comes with the fries is key. It is a wasabi tinged sauce that is key to making this burger taste fresh and exciting. read more

I really enjoy Furoshiki! Lettuce wraps are super tasty and you can't beat the location of this ramen, fusion-y spot. I've come for large group dinners and work lunches, and the service is always super fast and they've made some nice updates over the past few times I've gone. I ordered the kale salad last time I was there and would order again. However, I ordered with tofu and what was presented was a yummy salad with mandarin oranges and then 5 slabs of uncooked tofu placed on top. This is def not what I (or anyone?) was looking for out of my salad experience, so I essentially flushed my added $3 down the toilet. It is my fault for not asking, but I don't think it was wrong to assume the tofu would be slightly cooked? I digress...the salad itself was absolutely delicious and whatever dressing they use is a big win for me. I've also enjoyed their gyoza and ramen, both of which are tasty and satisfying. Their health score obviously gives me the willies and really keeps me from coming more than one or two times a year, but I am hoping they have made some adjustments in their kitchen to remedy that as well. I remembered quite enjoying this place several years ago, but I was left disappointed on my recent visit. The location has a Park Ave quaintness about it, including some fun art and a small bar, but I found the food to be mostly bland. I am a pretty big fan of Japanese food, including Ramen, and while I went in knowing that this wasn't the place for a truly authentic ramen experience (is there one in Rochester?), I expected more flavor. The Pork Bone ramen broth was generally okay, if not as rich as I was hoping for, but the noodles were made of some kind of flour that just wasn't absorptive at all. So, sipping the broth was fine, but eating the noodles just tasted like nothing. That's an issue that seems like it could be corrected without much cost that would make a world of difference. In addition, their gyoza are either steamed or deep fried (not pan fried), so we went for steamed wanting to avoid the deep fried, but the steamed ones were so soft they fell apart in my chopsticks (or slid through them). They also only had one type of sake (and only offered it hot), and it wasn't terrible, but was again lacking in flavor. All in all, it seemed like there were a lot of simple things that could be done to really improve the taste of the food but they're missing the mark a bit for right now. read more

Just ok. That pretty much sums up my thoughts on Furoshiki. I've never been a fan since the restaurant's inception. But I did return recently (not by choice) to see if my opinion changed. Nope. We ordered some appetizers to share: Pork Belly Steamed Buns, Asian Baby Back Ribs and Chicken Wings. The steamed buns were decent, but nothing special. I think Han Noodle and Chakara do them slightly better (and bigger portions). The chicken wings were quite crispy, but their sweet Sriracha sauce was pretty basic. The disappointments were the Baby Back Ribs and the Pork Bone Ramen. The ribs were bland and bit rubbery in texture. They fell off the bone nicely, but that was the only positive. The pork bone ramen was just okay. The noodles had a nice chewy texture. The broth was bland in my opinion. It's somewhat of a sacrilege to offer "spice bombs" (glorified Sriracha sauce) to boost flavor in ramen. That shouldn't be necessary. Another thing I disliked was the use of small pieces of pork as opposed to the large (but thin) slices. It just made it feel more of a Chinese noodle soup with ramen noodles as opposed to a traditional Japanese ramen. I know I'm nitpicking, but I just don't agree with the 4 star average Yelp rating. Roc City / Brooklyn Ramen has its own issues, but I much prefer their ramen over Furoshiki's. read more

I'd say the winning part of it was the broth which was some solid goopy delicious, exactly what I want from ramen broth. That is, I want each spoonful to scream pork into every crevice of my digestive system. But the place, the staff, and the nice conversations I had sitting at the bar was what really pushed it over the edge. I got the steak hibachi and it's the smallest portions I've ever gotten and a small scoop of rice. They also didn't have any sauces with the meal, you have to pay extra for a 2oz cup of yum yum.
