Amazing! Servers are the best and the food is awesome. Love it, love it, love it! The food is very authentic and carefully prepared. The place is very quaint. Best sushi I have EVER had.

Authentic and small Japanese restaurant in Rochester. Had the tekka, hamachi, and kappa roll. All were really fresh and yummy. Also has good miso soup, curries, and ramen. Wasn't a huge fan of the seaweed salad. For dessert they have ice cream and tempura ice cream. The tempura batter around the ice cream was ok. I wish the had matcha ice cream with red bean inside and then tempura fried that. Overall good restaurant and good service.

This is a little spot with a small menu, but everything is authentic, fresh and tasty. We came here about 40 minutes prior to closing on a Friday night and there were plenty of customers (but still a few open tables). We were told that it would take about 45 minutes for our food to come out if we ordered sushi, but we decided to stay anyways. There is one sushi chef for the entire place so wait times are long. We tried a chirashi bowl, several rolls (spicy salmon, alaska, salmon) as well as several pieces of sushi on the side (fish roe and fish egg); they were out of uni this day. Menu is small/limited, but the options seemed to be very authentic. I believe the chirashi bowl came with a miso soup and salad which were okay (we have had better). The chirashi bowl was excellent , everything was fresh, tasty and the sushi rice bed was flavorful and well seasoned. The rolls were also good; I especially enjoyed the Alaska roll. The spicy salmon roll only came with four pieces as an FYI. I did wish the plating for the individual rolls/sushi pieces was nicer as they seemed to fit everything onto one small plate but it was still tasty. We also noted that the wasabi here was good (we could feel the heat). Overall, a good recommendation we kept receiving from other people. Menu is simple, but true and authentic. Together with Shema, I think this is one of the best options in Rochester.

Shiki reopened earlier this month. Same owner I believe and the food seems mostly unchanged. We ordered gyozas, agedofu and a California roll to share. I got my usual Chirashi bowl. Service was friendly and fast. Price and food taste remains unchanged from before - good. I'm glad Shiki is back!

Omg, what a hidden gem in Rochester. Authentic Japanese resturant. The sushi chef and waitress/hostess are super efficient. The waitress/hostess was so fast and friendly. She waited on all the tables and handled takeout during a busy night and the service was impeccable. The fish here is super fresh and delicious. I ordered the chirashi bowl and ramen. The assorted fish was nice thick sashimi slices and fresh! Its not your usual small cubes of leftover fish. A must when you are in the area! Street parking only.

best sushi and japanese food in rochester! i always have a super hard time finding authentic japanese food in rochester that is good quality and not way overpriced, but at shiki the fish always tastes super fresh and everything is affordable. loved the agedashi tofu and their udon is quite good. service is always super good and friendly! very small interior so sometimes there will be a wait. love the quiet interior ambiance and simple interior, makes me feel like i'm in a small family restaurant in the 90s the chef used to work in many acclaimed sushi spots in nyc ! definitely come here, soooo worth it

This is my favorite sushi place. Their sushi are always fresh and decent price. Recommend to make reservation and come early. They may run out of ingredients.

Fried Ika, sauce was sooooo good

Definitely an authentic Japanese restaurant with lots of raw fish options. They start you off with hot hand towels which was really nice. We ordered the fried ika to start which was a small portion of squid rings and a garlicky dipping sauce. The squid was a little on the chewy side but the dipping sauce it came with was sooo good. I couldn't pinpoint the flavors but I tasted garlic and it was so much better than your typical sriracha aioli. We also ordered the sushi and sashimi combo which comes with soup and salad. Very plentiful and lots of high quality pieces of fish too. It did come with some nigiri but be prepared for it to have little globs of wasabi under the meat. Our server was super friendly and quick too. If you love raw sushi options this is definitely the spot to come to. Very affordable too!

Have you ever watched Doraemon before? When I was a kid, I always wanted the Anywhere Door, so I can go anywhere in a second. When I stepped into Shiki, it feels like I'm in a family-owned Japanese restaurant in Japan. With a bit of beer, I'm I still in Rochester or Kobe, Japan where my mom's at? I can't tell! The food here is incredible! Extremely authentic and fresh! Their price is worth every penny, and for the same quality and taste, you will need to pay double or even triple in somewhere else. Even better than some of the restaurants in NYC. Their service is also fabulous! This is by far the best Japanese restaurant on my list. I will definitely come here more often!

Shrimp tempura on top of udon noodles.

Great spot for Japanese food if you aren't looking for a hibachi place. They've got lots of sushi options, along with noodle soups like ramen and udon, and curry rice dishes. I got the tempura udon noodles which was pretty good and my friends all got curry dishes. They liked theirs but wished there was more meat and other add-ins mixed with the curry and rice. There is very limited (and tight) parking out back and I would highly recommend making a reservation as most of the tables were reserved when we showed up as the restaurant is only open from 5-9 pm.

This place still open for business?

Yes. Restaurant did take a week off around Memorial Day 2019.

    Does Shiki offer brown rice?

No. It's authentic Japanese. In Japan they serve white rice. It's also the only Japanese restaurant in Rochester actually owned by a Japanese owner.

Whether you choose all you can eat or not, you order off the regular menu, and they bring it out fresh to order for one set price. You can share with other people at your table, if they also order all you can eat. Which was another plus for me. It is also, what we decided to do. Our approach was to try a little at a time, so we could try as much as possible. We both ordered different things, with the intent on sharing. I ordered 2 sushi rolls. One I wanted and one my BF asked me to order. He is relatively new to Sushi. He ordered Beef Teriyaki, with steak, rice and Zucchini. My BF said he did not like Zucchini. But he loved everything about this dish. Real steak, the Zucchini was cut thick, so it had a nice crunch to it. The sauce was out of this world. Very different from Beef Teriyaki I've had at other Japanese restaurants. Lots of flavor, not salt. I really liked the Sushi rolls I ordered, but my BF ended up only trying 2, before he decided he wanted to move on to other things. Leaving me to finish the Sushi myself. Which filled me up pretty good. When I go back, I am not going to oblige him with that courtesy again. Haha! Next time I will order one roll, so Im not too full to try more menu items. It's quite the menu. If you do not like Sushi, no worries, they have a wide variety of hot dishes and appetizers. They have a food waste policy, which I thought was a huge plus. A lot of items on the menu are small plate foods, so it shouldn't be a problem. BF received his food first, there was a bit of a wait for the sushi, I heard a lot of people ordering a lot of Sushi upfront. Which probably backed it up a bit. But it was not a problem. I just helped BF eat his steak dish. lol. You do not have to order everything at once. Staff walks around checking on you keeping a close eye out. You can order more items off the menu as you go. The Ambiance was also very nice.Very comfortable, perfect for date, family, or friend nights out. They also had some whimsy, which is nice. Their Uniforms, have a Yoda saying on it. Which is definitely fun to note. The food was fresh, and delicious. A great way to upscale "all you can eat" I will definitely be back. Usually I cannot eat enough to make all you can eat worth it. But I would do it again here. Our bill was reasonable. But If I knew exactly what I wanted and it was less expensive than all you can eat. I would also order off the menu. This is my new favorite Sushi Restaurant. They do serve alcohol. Wine, beer, and sake. The beers are mostly Japanese beers. Staff were super friendly, happy, and helpful. They will walk you through the process. They have real menus, and also a QR code menu. The only improvement I would recommend, is that once they take your initial order. It would be nice to be able to use the QR code to order more items, instead of waiting on staff. I think it would work great with their food waste policy. But that's just a friendly suggestion. When I do reviews, I do take pics of the ladies room, if no one is in there. I think it should be normalized. Theirs was impeccable. The entire establishment was super clean.

I chose this place because it offers not only sushi but also some dim sum dishes. It's a great place to try something new. We waited almost an hour for a seat on a busy night, but since it's an all-you-can-eat restaurant, I think it was reasonable. There were about 10 people ahead of me on the waiting list, and the food quality remained delicious throughout the meal. The service was also keeping up with the demand. The sashimi was incredible. I can't say I don't like any sashimi, but I love them all. Almost every sushi and sashimi we ordered was delicious. However, there's one thing I don't care for: the sticky rice shumai/shu mai. We think it's lacking in flavor. Overall, we had a great time at this restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was good. I do think there's room for improvement in the dessert menu. They could add a few more options, like fresh fruits, Japanese mochi, or egg tarts. That's just my opinion, though.

I can live off raw fish for life (pretty much what I did whenever I visit Japan). In all its dim and slow service grandeur, this place has the best fish quality among all the sushi places I've been in Rochester. Located off West Henrietta right by the Millenium Games place. So, if you have the time, this place is totally worth it for the 25$ all you can eat option. It's alacarte and the sushi chef makes really really good rolls. The inside is incredibly outdated, thus this place isn't what I call a formal upscale date place to go but if your date/friend can put down sushi and can appreciate good quality sushi, then this place definitely is a 5/5 for sushi. I once watched a table of people watching a soccer game on their ipads while enjoying the meal- very chill place. My husband and I super busy and despite it's incredibly slower wait time, it's worth it. It's one dude doing all of it - frying the agadashi tofu (very good btw), fried crab leg, and rolling the sushi. 25$ for an all you can eat ala carte sushi that you can check off the list. Comes with a thousand island type of salad and a miso soup.
