Amount of rice in piece of nigiri
Megan C.

I was really hoping to enjoy my takeout experience here and unfortunately Keep it Rollin missed the mark for me. Sushi night is a special and somewhat rare occasion in our house, and I was unable to finish even one roll or piece of nigiri. The main issue is in the quality and quantity of the rice. I tried to share in my photos, but the rice is packed so densely that it ends up becoming really gummy when chewed. Apologies for the gross description, but it really was inedible. We went with two special rolls, covered in bacon and tempura for my date. I tried one and the rice problem persisted, along with the fact that it didn't really taste like sushi - super savory. My chef's special roll was SO salty and the fish did not taste fresh, so that was a no go. The fish on my nigiri was fine, so I ate some of that as sashimi instead. The other reviews for this spot are fantastic, so perhaps this was just a bad night, but the sushi itself was not excellent. I adore ROC City Ramen and will likely just order gyoza and ramen when I am in the Corn Hill neighborhood in the future.

Were greeted and served by 2 lovely ladies who answered our questions enthusiastically and continually returned to assure we had everything we needed. We ordered a Sashimi App and 7 different rolls for our party of four, from memory they are pictured the 3 Roll Combo from the menu, Sunshine Roll, Tuna Montana (Unanimously our table's favorite) and Volcano Roll (also yummy) cant remember the others but we liked everything. The wasabi was the freshest I think I've ever had and was VERY potent!! I've already recommended to a friend. Pleasant surrounding with an eclectic music sound track that could have been a tad lower but still able to have a conversation at our table.

Heard this place is the place to get really tasty sushi. We were blown away with the different varieties. Plenty of choices for vegetarian/vegan too. Friendly staff. Great value. Please check out this place if you can!

Smoked salmon nigiri.. look how thin this is.

Just ordered a few orders of smoked salmon nigiri to take back to work for lunch, and was so disappointed. The rice in each piece was actually hot and by the time I got back to work, which is only 2 min drive away, so was the salmon. Also the smoked salmon was def not fresh and tasted/looked like the kind of smoked salmon you would put on a bagel, not sushi. When I order this anywhere else it tastes refreshing and crisp but not here :( anyway, super disappointing. To top it off, I asked if there were chopsticks in my bag before leaving and they assured me there were but there weren't. Soy sauce was not good either.

I posted on Reddit asking for the best Sushi spot. Had a lot of recommendations for Shiki and Shema, and only 1 for this place. Maybe because it's new? Anyway, the Sushi I just had here, was so good, that it almost blew my dick right off. The Maria Roll is something special. I would eat it every day if I could. The service was great too and the atmosphere had nothing but good vibes. Come give this place a shot.

This was another stop on our long tour of all the sushi spots between Rochester and Syracuse. You have to check this place out! I'll be completely honest, this was a really hard debate on a 4 vs 5 star review and it shouldn't dissuade you from giving this place a try. Their rolls are amazing and the fish is great quality. I will 100% return here and order more rolls and sashimi, they're some of the best I've had so far. This place is super modern, cool and sleek ~ definitely not your traditional Asian sushi place part of Roc City Ramen). You go up to their counter/sushi bar to place your order and then they'll bring it out to you. We started off with some green teas, a sashimi appetizer, and pork gyoza, and then got the sushi dinner, the Maria specialty roll, and the Harley cooked roll for mains. We were surprised that the green tea was canned cold green tea. It wasn't my thing but my fiancée liked it. They brought out the sashimi app, the gyoza, and the salad that came with my sushi dinner. The sashimi looked beautiful! It was cut perfectly and the texture was almost melt in your mouth. Each cut of fish was just bursting with flavor. The gyoza was good and I can't put my finger on it, but it just tasted like something was missing or lacking in it. But regardless, you could tell that these were fresh and well prepared and I have a huge appreciation for that. The salad was also shocking because they use a truly fresh dressing. This isn't the dressing that you see at a typical sushi place that tastes uniform with all of the other restaurants. This is real, fresh ingredients, homemade, and complex which is so great to see in a salad, it makes you enjoy eating your greens. I also want to note that we found it odd that they didn't offer a miso soup as an additional option, even though they're partnered with a ramen place that has a miso soup ramen broth option. Just a bit strange and something we felt was missing. Our sushi dinner and rolls were up next. The Maria roll was phenomenal and one of my favorite rolls of all time so far. It tasted of fresh fish, crunchy coated shrimp, with a balance of both creaminess and a noticeably spicy finish. The Harley was full of umami, fatty, creamy, sweet and savory flavors with a soft, melt in your mouth texture that left my fiancée in awe. The sushi dinner is what brought me to the point of giving this place a 4 star review. So the sashimi app had been cut perfectly ~ thin and delicate, but still thick enough that it had texture and structure along with taste and the cuts on the nigiri (sushi) were no different, they were beautiful. The problem was actually with the rice. It was cooked exactly how it should be, but there was simply too much of it in the rice bed. The bed should be there to complement the fish, which is the main attraction of the dish. Instead the rice bed was so packed that I could barely even sense there was fish when I took a bite. I ended up having to cut the rice beds in half to enjoy it. It's a bit of a shame to have that great of a cut of fish, but then not be able to taste it because of the rice. It should be mentioned that the California roll that came with it was also exceptional and I think there was more to the rice in that roll (toasted sesame maybe?), which added more flavor than just the standard California roll. I will happily come back here and try their sushi and gyoza again and update my review, but for now, they will just have to settle for having mind-blowingly awesome rolls and sashimi. Please check this place out!

Nothing spilled, everything still looked fresh, which already put me in a good mood. Now the food... I cannot believe how good the lobster roll is. If you haven't had it, you haven't lived. It's that kind of good. Like pause mid-bite, close your eyes, what is happening right now kind of delicious. The miso soup was a whole experience by itself. Warm, comforting, and it just felt nourishing. Not just something on the side, but something you actually appreciate with every sip. And the Brussels sprouts... I added just a little soy sauce and wow. Completely took them to another level. So simple but so good. This is one of those places where everything hits. Fast delivery, great packaging, and food that actually lives up to the hype. I'm already bookmarking this spot.

You are seated at a tablet in front of a conveyor belt with the sushi making it's way around the restaurant. You can take whatever catches your eye as it passes in front of you, or you can order from the tablet. If you order from the tablet, little cars bring the food on a second, higher conveyor belt above the first one, or sometimes a robot brings it to your seat. So there are 2 moving belts, robots, and servers. It's a lot! Fun, but be aware. It is cool that you can see things moving past and try different things. The plates on the belt are also less than a full order, which means you can try more things, if that's your style. Service is pretty quick since you're helping yourself from the belt. They do a good job making sure there is a variety of items on the belt and seemed to restock pretty quickly. You can mostly chose from rolls and nigiri. I do like American style rolls, and enjoyed the options. The guy prefers nigiri. We ordered some tempura and picked some nigiri from the menu as well. I really enjoyed the veggie tempura. They have good salmon - we tried the peppered salmon, which he thought was too much, but was smokey and peppery, and I enjoyed. There was also a spicy yellowtail, and plain salmon that was also nice quality. We shared an ice cream sundae with one of the little fish shaped cakes for dessert, which was really good. I liked the little cake with the red bean paste inside. It was fun and pretty low key.

We came here on a packed Saturday night when RIT's Nova group was hosting a fundraiser, so we got discounted AYCE and we knew a portion of proceeds were going to their organization. The wait was about 50 minutes at peak dinner time, so that was fair. I was very impressed with how clean and efficient everything was, including the cart at the end of the table for used dishes. Our food came out fairly quickly as we ordered on the tablet, and it was the kind of quality you always hope to get at a sushi joint: nice sized portions, very fresh tasting, lovely presentation. I appreciated that you could also help yourself to the rotating belt options for no extra charge. The only things we paid extra for were fountain drinks, and even those included refills (or so we were told - we only had one). The staff was professional, friendly and helpful. I hope whatever issues people experienced here in the past have been resolved because it sure felt like a top tier experience at an affordable price to me! My one beef is that the menu was missing a mackerel option but I'll be back another day to see if they have it

We went on a Wednesday evening and were the only people in the restaurant for a little bit, so I would definitely recommend coming out on a week night if you can! Our server was absolutely lovely. Super attentive, even with the fact he didn't have to take our orders. Topped off our waters multiple times, made sure we were enjoying, etc. Speaking of ordering, their system is awesome!! It was super easy to browse the menu and make our selections, and we didn't have to worry about any awkwardness. Might just be a me thing, but I sometimes feel self conscious putting in a big order when I have to actually say it out loud to a person, so their phone ordering system was super helpful in making me feel more comfortable. The food was really good! On par with many other sushi places I've been in Rochester. I don't eat meat, and there were still so many veggie options for me. I especially loved the veggie dumplings and tofu skin/avocado roll. My bf loved the spicy crab onigiri and the beef skewers. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. The price seems to be slightly cheaper than other AYCE places in the area, even for dinner. We will definitely be back! As much as I miss Tap & Mallet, I was very happy with this spot!

They are known as an all you can eat place, but we got two rolls for take away instead. From what I saw when picking up, the place looks nice enough inside, but nothing special. We ordered a Dream Roll and a 2 in 1 roll. Neither were that great and the dream roll was missing the tuna and salmon it was supposed to have and they used a crab stick instead of real crab which was disappointing as well. The 2 in 1 roll was ok but nothing special. I will say that the order was ready early and they were gracious enough to included eel sauce and spicy mayo on the side as I requested, because it was not available as an add on, so I am going to assume the service is solid. Unfortunately there are too many good sushi places in town to try this place again.

The Chef was making our sushi in the front of the restaurant. Which is really important to me. A chef who doesn't hide his kitchen is confident in the quality of their food, and their cleanliness. I ordered 2 sushi rolls. I cannot remember which ones. But they were extremely fresh and tasty. I will think on it while typing and see if I remember. I have "Chemo Brain" so it hard. I know you're not supposed to have Sushi while on Chemo, but I have been craving it for weeks. I decided it was time for treat. My Dr told me yes, as long as I picked a top notch place. My husband is skeptical of sushi, so I ordered him shrimp fried rice, and Hibachi beef with veggies and rice. We ordered online, ahead of time while we were out running errands. We arrived early. We were graciously welcomed by both the Chef, and a very nice woman. We took it to go, and drove home. Super easy, and I think it is a husband and wife team. A very kind woman packed our bags. I was so happy that she put the Sushi In a separate bag, than the hot food. This might sounds simple, but it is a HUGE mistake that many restaurants make. I usually always get my sushi hot or salads wilted by steam when we order to go, so it was a nice treat, that care and common sense was used. The sushi was amazing. Ooh I remember now! lol. 1 of my dishes was a tempura roll, with Tuna on top, Avocado, and spicy sauce. The 2nd dish was similar, but made with real crab meat. It had something in it that gave it nice crunch. May have been tempura chips. My husband liked the shrimp fried rice, they chopped the shrimp up small, so at first he didn't see any. But he liked the flavors. He said it made the flavor more consistent. The Beef Hibachi dish, he said wasn't worth it. Too little beef. There were a lot of squash in the mixed veggies. He is not a squash fan. I helped him eat it and I liked it. But I can see that the portions are not "Big man" sized. Which I knew taking him there. But Japanese food is not usually pig out plates. It's nice healthy food. That's is what I wanted, and since I am sick, I got what I wanted. haha! He actually really enjoyed my Sushi. He didn't finish the shrimp fried rice, so he cooked up some chicken later that evening, and mixed it with the shrimp fried rice. we ate again as a 2nd meal. It was delicious. We both decided they have excellent sushi, one of the best places I've had in Rochester. We will be coming back again. We will probably stick with Sushi and maybe try their noodles. I think next time we will eat there. Even though we had some things we didn't care for. I did want to judge the menu, until we try more of it. It was touted on Google and Yelp as a sushi restaurant, not as a full service Japanese restaurant. As a result I am giving a pass on what we didn't like. Because what we did like was AMAZING.
