My bf and I tried Sushi585 for the first time this week. We're new to the AYCE game, so keep that in mind. We went on a Wednesday evening and were the only people in the restaurant for a little bit, so I would definitely recommend coming out on a week night if you can! Our server was absolutely lovely. Super attentive, even with the fact he didn't have to take our orders. Topped off our waters multiple times, made sure we were enjoying, etc. Speaking of ordering, their system is awesome!! It was super easy to browse the menu and make our selections, and we didn't have to worry about any awkwardness. Might just be a me thing, but I sometimes feel self conscious putting in a big order when I have to actually say it out loud to a person, so their phone ordering system was super helpful in making me feel more comfortable. The food was really good! On par with many other sushi places I've been in Rochester. I don't eat meat, and there were still so many veggie options for me. I especially loved the veggie dumplings and tofu skin/avocado roll. My bf loved the spicy crab onigiri and the beef skewers. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. We didn't realize we walked into an all you can eat sushi place until we walked into an all you can eat sushi place. The first table they offered us had ants on it. We declined the table and we moved to another section of the restaurant. We observed no ants on the remaining tables. We downloaded the app containing the menu and began ordering. Before we even placed our order we were provided with the glass of water and a bowl of miso soup which was very good. We ordered from the lunch menu, the alternative being the dinner menu. There were some additional items on the dinner menu, which were not important to us. It was 2 PM and we were able to select a choice. We tried a variety of dishes, including edamame, sushi, shumai, kimchi, a few hand rolls, teriyaki shrimp, and more. Quality was not the best, but not the worst. There were signs advising us if we didn't eat everything that basically they could charge a food waste fee. The signs further advised that you can't just order the sushi fish and throw away the rice. I understand why this is necessary. People do take advantage of all you can eat restaurants. The food came out very quickly, and the woman who delivered it was efficient but not friendly. Ordered from here on GrubHub while at work. The food was prepared very quickly, and got to us faster than it was supposed to. The sushi with some of the freshest sushi I've ever had. With the vegetables being very crunchy, and the spicy tuna being delicious. I also ordered the chicken Katsu, which was very good. The breading on the Katsu was a little mushy, but I think that was just because I ordered it to go and it had to sit for a little bit while I was at work. You order on the app and the food comes out so quickly that It seems premade. I'm pretty sure the sushi is premade then wrapped up in plastic wrap. Which is unsettling seeing as it's raw fish. This is my experience. Take it or leave it ;). Decided to try Sushi 585 after a few cocktails at Daily Refresher (great bar, highly recommended). They are known as an all you can eat place, but we got two rolls for take away instead. From what I saw when picking up, the place looks nice enough inside, but nothing special. We ordered a Dream Roll and a 2 in 1 roll. Neither were that great and the dream roll was missing the tuna and salmon it was supposed to have and they used a crab stick instead of real crab which was disappointing as well. The 2 in 1 roll was ok but nothing special. I will say that the order was ready early and they were gracious enough to included eel sauce and spicy mayo on the side as I requested, because it was not available as an add on, so I am going to assume the service is solid. Unfortunately there are too many good sushi places in town to try this place again. read more

My Rochester friends invited me to a sushi spot that I hadn't been to yet. When you walk in, after finding that parking was pretty easy, it is a very warm and inviting space. There is a whole separate room off to the right but the cute booths right when you walk in are inviting. There is an app to scan at every table where you pay for each person to get all you can eat. Everyone at the table can add to the tables order, but they suggest to order a couple things at a time to make it easier on the kitchen and so that things are hot as we eat them. It was a great experience and the food was delicious. They even offered to take our picture, it was my birthday after all. There was a lot of options, and there wasn't really anything that we didn't like. The Samba roll tasted like a jalapeno popper and that was a favorite. Yum! read more

While the restaurant itself was well decorated, had a quick service, and used an intuitive system to order sushi, that's all I can say about this establishment. The food itself wasn't Japanese in nature OUTSIDE of the sushi/sashimi. The restaurant was a poor imitation of a Japanese restaurant. To start, the miso soup was gritty with (what seemed like) onions in it (I cook and am an avid taster so I know 'm not tripping). The chicken yakisoba was WAYYYY too salty (it was very soy sauce forward). The kushiyaki was overcooked. The yakitori (probably only one of the few good things here) was well seasoned and juicy. The salmon tartare was a delight. The unagi sashimi had a small bone in both mine and my wife's bites. The salmon sashimi had fish scales in my bite. The seaweed salad was quite standard and textbook at best. Overall, I CANNOT recommend this place whatsoever. For $31.99/person for dinner, the quality you get doesn't justify the price. Decided to check this out. And we left very happy. First off, it's off street parking. We arrived around 5:30 on a Friday night so it wasn't busy yet. We were seated right away and they brought out miso soup and water. There's a QR code on each table that you scan to get access to the menu for online ordering. When they say "all you can eat", they mean it. Only thing not included is drinks which they have an assortment - alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Enjoyed my visit to Sushi585. The all you can eat fixed lunch pricing allowed us to try a variety of items. The ordering system was easy to figure out and the items we ordered were brought out to us in a timely manner. We liked how things were staggered, allowing you time to eat and then have a new item waiting for you. The gyoza dumplings were outstanding. I could eat these all day. I enjoyed the yakitori, chicken teriyaki, crunchy sushi rolls (salmon and tuna), and the chicken fried rice. All of the food we ordered was hot and made to order. Been wanting to check this AYCE sushi for a while. It's so nice it's in the City. They have a small parking lot in the back and when you walk in, you can remember the old Tap and Mallet bar. The bar now is the sushi bar and great booths in front. Tip is to come by 5:00 or 5:30pm on a Friday or weekend evening to beat the dinner rush as food comes out fast and after 6:30pm, orders significantly slows down as the place is packed. We loved mostly everything and nice it's small plates so you can try everyone on the menu. Favorites are the sashimi sampler, beef and onion skewers, quail egg skewers, fried oysters, spider roll, aged tofu, seaweed salad and takoyaki. Definitely will be back. At the current time of this review, prices are $20.99 for lunch and $30.99 for dinner AYCE which is pretty good for restaurant prices these days. read more

We love this place so much we keep driving an hour to come back! All of the sushi is amazing, and everything on the all you can eat menu is worth trying. Our personal favorite is the chicken gyozas. (We like to consider ourselves dumpling connoisseurs). The service could be better at explaining how everything works, as we were REALLY confused the first time we went. After that, we were experts and it's actually so easy and convenient. The only other thing I'll add is that one time we went and had all you can eat for $20, and the next we went and it was $40 per person. Came for the AYCE deal for lunch. High point is: good for hot foods. Not so great for fish. if you want better sushi/fish quality go to Taste of Japan. The guy is a slow roller but his fish quality is better. The fish were came out warm tasting and slid off the rice as soon as the plate sits down. This place took over the original Tap and Mallet. Inside didn't change for old customers just now an added sushi bar and some new fixtures to create a more Asian experience. otherwise, the fried rice, appetizers, hot options were solid. Come here for solid food- consider your sushi options other places. Osaka sushi and this place get similar ratings for sushi. both have good hot options but not superior sushi Good customer service. They don't hand out menus so take a pic of that QR code btw so you don't sit there awkwardly waiting to be waited on. They are fast with food coming out. Service was confusing due to using a QR code and having the server open up the website for us to use. Overall, it was fairly easy to order once we got started. The startling thing was the size of portions they gave for some of the dishes. I ordered seaweed and expected a small amount. What came out was a fist-sized amount of seaweed. First all-you-can-eat sushi experience is in the books! Stopped by Sushi Samba for dinner with my bestie during a recent visit to Rochester. She suggested trying it out since it's relatively new and right in her neighborhood. At the time of this review, adult all-you-can-eat dinner pricing for adults is $30, which I don't think is too bad considering the dining experience. The service was really great and all the food we ordered came out pretty quickly. I ordered a few sushi rolls and some of their Samba dumplings -- which were delicious. The sushi was a-okay, nothing mind-blowing, but I was really satisfied. My friend ordered a few of their vegetarian friendly-options, namely some dumplings, edamame, fried rice, and a veggie roll. She loved everything! I like the all-you-can-eat sushi structure because it enables you to order things you might not try at a la carte pricing. All you can eat sushi sounds like a gimmick or too good to be true. It was neither of these things! We ordered dishes 3-4 at a time, placing an order when the first one was about half gone. Worked well for timing. The sushi offered a lot of options that other local places don't have, as well as some of the classics. The menu was HUGE. Lots of dishes other than sushi to choose from (definitely get the spicy edamame, skip the chicken dumplings). We could have used a better explanation on the menu; there's a large poster describing it, but neither of us saw it (we were seated too far away) before ordering. We both wound up ordering off my boyfriend's phone. Service was a little slow. But we were there to relax on a date, so it wasn't a problem. I probably wouldn't choose this restaurant for a rushed meal. This was a fun dinner out and we will definitely be back. read more

At the time of writing, lunch prices are $20.99, and dinner prices are $30.99 which is comparable to other AYCE places here in Rochester. You would start by scanning the QR code on the table, and then order from there. After a minute or two they bring out the plates, and a bowl of Miso Soup. KEEP THE TAB OPEN!! So you can order more food. This is so the dishes aren't just sitting out while you're eating, as everything is made fresh to order. They also came out really fast, like in a few minutes after ordering. All the food was delicious. The food quality is really good. I'd put it up there in the top 3 places here. After you're done with everything you can pay on your phone so you're not just sitting around after you're done. Overall the service was fast, and all the food was delicious. Vince - I'll buy you dinner at a Chinese buffet on ridge Rd in Greece and I gaurantee you won't be charged extra for food left on your plate - please don't kid yourself, that's what you are (btw they offer sushi). You charge approx $45 for a 4 and 9 year old to eat in your restaurant - this isnt including the $40 for myself plus tax + tip.. Your policy is not well stated - the staff assisting gave little instruction on how the ordering process worked - and seemed more eager to hustle people in than anything else. Went to sushi samba on a weekday. They had tables open but turned us away due to the amount of people, and we were ok with that! We would definitely prefer that to waiting too long for food. Went back on a weekend and got seated right away. You order on your phone which is convenient! Some of the food came out quickly and was very good! If you are looking for the best sushi in Rochester, that is definitely Shema, but if you want quantity and a unique experience, this is a great place! This is basically a sushi restaurant with choices I have not seen elsewhere. They offer several combos and I think the best deal which is all you can eat for $20.99. Honestly my son is the sushi lover which is how we ended up here. We arrived about 11:20 on a Thursday, and given a small bowl of Miso soup. Fresh ginger and wasabi are on table. I ordered Shumai and shrimp tempura with vegetables. The Shumai was fried and the best I've ever had. Tempura was perfectly done and delicious. My son enjoyed tuna, snapper, and salmon in a couple different forms, and he enjoyed them all. The only two disappoints were the deep fried oyster, and fried octopus ball, and a whitefish roll. My friend and I didn't realize that before coming for lunch but it was only $20 for the all you can eat, so we figured why not just stay for that. We were blown away by all of the options you can choose that are included in this. Steak on a stick, miso soup, shumai, mini steak entree, pot stickers, sushi the list keeps going. What all that for $20?!? How?!? I don't know but we got it all. We were saying mmmm with every bite. The steak dishes and the spicy tuna rolls were our favorites. After trying Sushi Samba again I don't think I would go back. A lot of the stuff they do poorly(consistently wrong orders, no interaction with a waiters, appetizers that are not the right temperature, etc.) could be excused if the food was amazing but it's not. The food just doesn't seem worth it for the price(Around 42 after tax and tip/person assuming you don't get any drinks or anything extra). The rolls feel like the have too much filler and not enough fish to the point that it doesn't taste like sushi, it just tastes like eating fish flavored rice. If you do go, try to stay away from anything with "spicy" in the name as it's just 90% filler and 10% ground up fish. The larger rolls definitely tasted better even if they also suffered from too little fish. read more

Tried the place within the first week of it being opened. The food was delicious, everything we got tasted amazing, except for the water... the water tasted like ocean water, fishy. (Not that I have ever tasted ocean water, so I guess it is what I think it would taste like) Our biggest complaint would be the excessive portion size, we ordered treating it like any buffet where it's tappas style, sample sizing, but everyone came out full order size, leaving us to over order and waste a lot a lot of food. First time there. Restaurant is spacious, berth clean and although it's the dead of winter, has a large deck outside for the summer. The premise is different in that one accesses the menu from a QR code, chooses the items you want and that is relayed to the staff. Miso soup arrives in seconds, and once your order is complete, your dinner is prepared. This is an "all you can eat" menu only. The sushi was beautifully presented, and was extremely fresh. If there is one thing that I feel could be improved it is the amount of fish on the rolls. It is a bit skimpy. One thing I truly appreciate was rather than have to continually beg for more Ginger at most restaurants, there was a container on the table filled with Ginger. And wasabi also. The beef skewers were insanely good, we ordered extra of those. The food came out super fast and we were able to consistently order on our phones so it was super easy.
