My husband does not eat sushi but when I saw this place had a kobe burger, I convinced him to give it a try. To be honest, we didn't have high hopes for a burger at a sushi place, but I would have been jealous had my sushi not been incredible. The burger had the perfect char and was medium rare to order. The special sauce was great. This sushi place has a lot of creative options I haven't seen elsewhere. I had the O-ren and the tuna una - both fantastic. I wish some of the other choices didn't have cucumber but I would have had a hard time narrowing my choices down otherwise. The bartender was new but he made my husband the best old fashioneds he's had in awhile. Very smooth. I had a refreshing lavender lemon bubbly gin based cocktail and a glass of plum wine with my sushi. Service is great. The restaurant is cozy. It rivals some of our best sushi places in Buffalo. We were going out to dinner for sushi and I happened to look at a listing of the best sushi restaurants in Rochester and Poke' was listed as the best so we thought we'd give it a try. It's a funky little restaurant in the South Wedge - with a nice atmosphere and cozy set up. There is a bar there too that some people were sitting at, but we sat at a table. I ordered an IPA of course. And my wife had water. The menu looked great with Japanese specialties and different sushi offerings. They also had a small card on the table with specials where you could order two or three types of sushi and get salad or soup with it. My wife had the two types of sushi and I had the three. But I ended up bringing some home so two would've been enough for me. We ordered steamed dumplings with pork in them for an appetizer, and they were excellent, with a great sauce that I kept to use for my sushi. The sushi was very good too. I had eel, tuna, and salmon as my three types of sushi. All fantastic! We decided to order the Mochi for dessert. I misunderstood and thought it was some type of ice cream, but it was really like a rice thing that I wasn't too keen on, but that's just me. So overall, I would rate the service great, the atmosphere also great. The appetizer and sushi were fantastic too. The salad and dessert were so so in my eyes, but I don't go out for that. I go out for the sushi and therefore I'm giving it five stars for what I go out for. We'll be back to check it out again. read more

Found this place on a whim. It did not disappoint. Very expansive menu and accommodating to many. I've never seen so many cooked sushi options and also vegan! Even the drink menu had a good number of mocktails. The sushi is excellent. Huge rolls and worth the price. I shared the kona, fantastic, and south beach. I think I liked the fantastic the best which had eel but every roll was amazing. I also tried seaweed salad for the first time and it will not be my last. We got reservations for 2 at 7 pm on Valentine's Day -- and I called late. This is a small place with exposed brick and wood floors, nice sedated lighting. We stuffed ourselves with the most delicious sushi EVER (except maybe San Francisco and that's a high bar), and then stuffed ourselves some more. Service was attentive and friendly without being weird, and they made us laugh. The vibe was chill -- a little loud, but dinner, Valentine's Day, Saturday night ... it was fine. Edamame could have used mere sea salt The dumplings were not good they were coated with hot oil and crushed red pepper flakes which made it too hot to eat. All of the sushi's we ordered were delicious. We had a California Roll, shrimp tempura, and Dragon roll. Checked out this spot for a celebratory dinner. A warm cozy place with ambient interior. This is not a big place but the people have big hearts so you don't feel it's crowded. Got seats at the bar. Bartender was very nice and kind. We spoke about everything under the Sun but never asked their name (my bad!). They also knew what to recommend. Their house Sake is amazing. Definitely worth a try if you are into sake. They have some nice cocktails too. The Peruvian Sour had a kick to it and got you alert for the sushi. The sushi was delicious. They have great sweet potato rolls. Warms you up from within. The Seoul boy roll was the winner of the night. It had everything in it and was an enjoyable journey to try it. Glad I finally was able to stop in after driving by here every day to work! It's a nice addition to the South Wedge and I was quite pleased with my experience. Loved the atmosphere, there is a little bar with maybe 8 or so tables, many of which are 2 seaters. Nice lighting, background music and overall ambiance. I'm a sucker for the charm of the architecture in this neighborhood which lends itself to this restaurants very intimate cozy feel. Would be a great date night place, meal with a friend etc.. The rolls I had were delicious and beautifully prepared. I was very pleased and actually brought some home to my partner, as they were also pretty generously portioned. My gin based cocktail was both gorgeous and tasty, and also not a light pour, which I appreciate! Firstly, huge shoutout to Shirelle, our bartender. She was an all-star. I had the Peruvian Sour and my brother, the Smokin' Aces. Both drinks were pleasant to the tongue and very well executed. Secondly, the food was phenomenal. I found myself requesting seconds of the miso soup (photo-attached) because of how much I enjoyed it. The spicy salmon roll I ordered was clean, fresh, and awesomely presented (photo-attached). The restaurant was clean, inviting, well lit, and decorations culturally relevant to the theme. This place has become my go-to for sushi in the ROC. You'd think the small seating area would feel cramped and claustrophobic, but it actually lends itself well to a nice, intimate atmosphere. The chefs are working in the corner so you can watch them prep your masterpiece if you like. There's a large, full bar with flights of sake and Japanese whiskey, along with numerous cocktail offerings. I've never had anything that was less than fresh and beautifully prepared here One comment for winter dining: not sure if it was just an odd night when I was there but it doesn't seem to be very well-heated when the weather is cold. Might be on purpose due to the nature of the cuisine, but a lot of us were dining with our jackets still on to stay warm. If you like sushi, this is a must-try! read more

My favorite thing about this place is that they have so many sushi rolls that are unique, unlike anywhere I've ever seen before. And their menu is very extensive. Our first experience at Poke Sushi, a mixed bag. Delighted that the bar server brought us exactly the type of Sake we specified; cold, crisp and dry-er. Don't know if they were understaffed, but dinner took nearly an hour (although our server was attentive and kind). I ordered the Tentoumushi roll. It was rather bland, uninteresting and thin (for a "Chef's specialty roll'). Lacked distinctive flavors or contrasts of texture; mango was an ingredient, but I couldn't discern it. Only noticed a bit of cucumber, salty tobiko, and a gratuitous amount of sweet gloppy eel sauce on the plate. Tuna tataki: slices were miniscule, and cut so thin; it seemed like insignificant flakes of tuna over a lot of daikon floss. Again, not a flavorsome effect. On the brighter side, my partner enjoyed his Kobe burger, and thought his salad above-par. I like the friendly, hygge? vibe at Poke Sushi and will try them again (for sushi and sashimi) another day. read more

Went in and sat at the bar where I was explained the unique drinks that they were serving for the week/month/season. I got the "How are Yuzu" and even though wasabi is used in making it, you can't taste but a slight hint of it, and the drink is deliciously crisp. The bartender was fantastic. He was helpful in making a decision for drink, as well as food, and the right level of attentive as well. I wasn't rushed at all, but still a good pace for being just me. I had the miso soup, Lin Lin roll, and a spicy tuna roll. All tasted very fresh and didn't have any overwhelming flavors that over powered it. We order this delicious meal through door dash, it took a bit longer than originally expected, but we definitely think it was worth it! We ordered 8 rolls, 3 nigiri, and 1 gyoza to share. Everything came labeled, which incredibly helpful when ordering so many rolls. I wish more places would label items. They also allowed comments when ordering specific items which I found very helpful when asking for no cucumbers. Everything was fresh, rice wasn't to vinegar-y, and presentation was beautiful. The flavors of this new "Japanese fusion" spot is just as unimaginative as its name (it would be just as boring as calling a latin fusion place "Empanada Taco"). But I digress. While I give them props for having an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu, the two rolls I ordered -- Not Too Crabby and Eezy Eel -- lacked any flavor. Or texture for that matter, despite one of them being deep fried in tempura batter. Monotonous and disappointing. Having spent a year in Japan, I know first hand that even the simplest ingredients in a sushi roll, even without fish, can be delicious. If there's any telltale sign of a good or bad Japanese restaurant, it's their miso soup -- how can you can F that up. Well, Poke Sushi did. I was served a bowl of miso broth and tofu cubes. No kombu. They didn't even bother to dress it with scallions. My boyfriend, the avid Japanese traveler and sushi fan said the fish didn't taste fresh and that WEGMANS had better sushi. Adding insult to injury was the awful service. We booked a table for 2, two days ahead for 8:30pm. When we got there, they put us in the least desirable spot next to the restrooms. And despite the dining hall emptying out, they still kept delaying our order by prioritizing takeout. Instead of apologizing, they gave us what we assumed were dishes made by mistake, such as rolls/appetizers we didn't order and or want as we waited for our own food. Then our initial server decided to neglect us half way through the night.
