Our first time getting takeout. Ordering on the phone was easy and our order was ready in 20 min. The chefs separated our rolls so we'd each have a box. I did this because sometimes my partner eats my rolls, and his, and I end up with less. Gotta protect my sushi!!! Anyway, very fresh and tasty. Chopsticks and soy sauce included. I thought my spicy rolls (one tuna and one salmon) and avocado-salmon roll had a lot of rice - I was stuffed and could not finish 3 rolls - and could have used more filling (i.e., more fish). Hubby enjoyed his roll and the à la carte sushi and gyoza. We will definitely order from here again, but I would not order the spicy rolls due to the rice:fish ratio. read more

Ordered take out. It was very simple just called and placed the order and it was ready in 30 minutes. The food was delicious. I ordered the udon which was exactly what was needed on a snowy evening. My roommate got one of the nigiri platters which was fresh and well worth the price. My other roommate had the teriyaki bento box which came with a surprisingly large amount of food, the chicken, rice, 6 rolls, salad, seaweed salad, and miso soup. Pretty decent sushi and bento place. I came here Friday evening for some quick dinner. The place is small and limited in parking spots and few tables for dine in. They sell some groceries besides food, price is tiny bit higher than big Asian groceries. I got spicy tuna rolls and chicken teriyaki. It took less than 10 minutes for the food to get ready. Tuna roll was big and rice is soft. Chicken teriyaki was okay. I enjoyed the salad came with the meal. Overall it was a good dinner. read more

We did take out. It's a small store/restaurant with a great selection. I did the pork cutlet with curry and rice which was fried nice and crispy with a flavorful curry. I also got a spicy shrimp roll which was fresh. My friend got a variety of sushi rolls which she enjoyed. read more

Just my kind of place! Small unassuming place you would miss if you didn't have a GPS. So I was in the mood for Japanese takeout and this place nailed it. Very good menu with lots of choices. Reasonably priced and extremely friendly service. Inside doesn't have much in the way of seating which is fine. Actually a small Asian grocery is part of this place. So cool. The food is fresh, carefully prepared (looks pretty and appetizing) and tasty. Spicy ginger pork was very yummy. Not too much spice. Gyoza were amazing. I could make a meal out of that. A lot of people recommended this place, and I'm so glad I went. Ordered the udon, the chicken cutlet box with a spicy tuna roll instead of California roll, and a side of rice. Everything was fantastic. So simple, so comforting, even though this isn't something I grew up with. I did a little shopping while waiting for my food, and while there wasn't a huge selection, there were some great staples for me to restock my pantry at home. This sushi was some of the best I've had in awhile and I eat a lot of sushi. The rice was so fresh and soft, the fish was fresh, the miso soup was perfect and the dumpling sauce was so tangy. Their food is a wee bit overpriced, but it's good and it's a small little place so I don't mind. It's convenient to have the shop right there to pick some items up. Again, a little pricey for the shop items but I'm spoiled from having access to Mitsuwa market when I lived in California. The service here has always been wonderful and I will continue to return. Stopped by here after a visit to the Bay Towne plaza to see my doctor and saw this on my map and seemed like exactly the kind of place I was hoping to grab a fresh and quick lunch at! I got a takeout bento and a bowl of udon soup for the sick hubby at home. Great little selection of select Japanese products to shop for while you wait as well - I found stuff here that I never see in any other the other asian grocery stores in Rochester, and it's all excellent quality brands. This is our absolute favorite sushi restaurant. We've been eating here since this location opened. Prior to that at their original restaurant location. The owners are wonderfully nice. The sushi has been consistently great. We eat sushi from them at least once per week since 2007. Our favorites are the Fire Roll, Sumo Roll, and Geisha Roll. Bento-Ya is an Asian grocery store and cafe hybrid. The selection of groceries is small, down to the necessities/staples, however their menu is as plentiful as any other Japanese restaurant minus the hibachi. You have an array of sushi, kitchen dishes, and bento boxes to choose from. I've had the spicy pork ginger bento box and it's packed with flavor and not spicy to me. The bento boxes are good portions and includes the main entree, miso soup, ginger salad, seaweed salad, pork dumplings, rice, and half of a cali or spicy tuna roll. Place and pay for your meal order at the counter. There's a small seating area in the back room past the two grocery aisles. It's not ideal for large groups, more so a quick dine in spot. Don't expect alcohol and wait service where you can spend hours there shooting the sake. It's not that type of venue. There's a small parking lot, but if that's ever full, there's residential street parking available. The owners are friendly, the location is on a main road, the food is good, and you can do some shopping too. read more

Bento boxes are filling and tasty but my favorite is their Sumo roll which is the perfect amount of crab-stick, sauces, cream cheese, and fried to perfection. My cousin developed a severe shellfish allergy after being a long time sushi lover and is always hesitant with ordering from seafood places. The menu is very accommodating and she always finds something she enjoys that still satisfies her sushi fix. They have a simple but thorough selection of asian staple groceries. Really really good. We have been meaning to stop in here for lunch - but never remember. We stopped in not realizing how expansive the menu was! My husband ordered a Korean BBQ platter and I had two sushi rolls (Unagi and spicy tuna). Amazing food... while we waited I walked around the small section of Imported foods. Since Chris L. and I moved to the North Winston and Empire area of East Irondequoit, we're farther from the sushi joints of the city and usual go-to take out restaurants. But I'm thankful that it gave us the opportunity to explore Webster. I eventually visited Bento-ya and as far as sushi joints go in Rochester, Bento-ya is delicious, consistent, and addicting! My go-to rolls are Negi Sake (salmon scallion), Negi Hamachi (yellowtail scallion), and Rainbow roll. The rice is properly prepared and the fish is delightfully fresh with great mouthfeel which makes the lowest price rolls as heavenly as the special rolls. When I feel like a decadent roll, the Miami Beach with the spicy tuna, avocado, crispy, and tobiko. Mmm! I usually call in my order, drive over, and take it home where I work. But there is a nice little dining area if you want to have a seat and enjoy some of the hot prepared dishes! Someday I'll try their Ramen on Tuesdays or perhaps one of the Korean rice dishes. (I just gotta kick this sushi addiction first!) Despite not checking in on Yelp often, I'm at Bento-ya more often than I probably should be lol. The sushi is irresistible but I've explored the grocery as well. Pocky for my chocolate cravings, an epic bottle of Japanese apple juice for boosting my immunity during the rough winter, rice seasoning (which makes boring rice taste like sushi!), and sometimes I'll try a new snack or drink. Well, I regret that, the food is still very much like Fuji-ya, and they have some great groceries for sale. Although the eating area is more limited, I feel the place is perfect for a lunch, or for a stop before going grocery shopping. It was a pleasant surprise to find a Japanese/Korean place in Webster. We were visiting for a college swimming championship and have been working our way through the towns' restaurants. Very unique in that you walk into a tiny oriental market with most of the essentials a displaced Asian might need. You order at a counter to the right. The woman who took our order was very pleasant and efficient. There is a small, but pleasant dining room with a clean and well maintained bathroom adjacent to the Oriental store, where you can sit and they bring your order out to you. The Miso was very good and hot. The salads was mostly some pale looking but crispy iceberg lettuce with a few shreds of carrot and a mild ginger sesame dressing. I had tempura udon noodle soup which was well prepared, tasty, and hot. The noodles tasted fresh and had excellent texture. My wife had a Bento with an unusual egg battered marinated chicken nuggets along with salad, rice, California rolls, gyoza and seaweed salad. The California rolls were freshly prepared and the portions in the Bento were filling for lunch, but the gyoza was cold. We also asked for hot tea, which arrived in take-out 16oz hot drink cups, which we thought was odd. This place didn't seem to really be a proper sit down restaurant, but wanted to be more than a fast food outlet. Prices were more in line with fast food, so that's a good thing. The food quality was good, service was quick and there was a party of 8 Japanese men having lunch while we were there. So if you have a hankering for decent Japanese or Korean food, but aren't looking for a regular sit down service restaurant, or happen to need to pick up some fresh ginger and fish balls to cook at home, then you've found the place. read more
