With so many reviews it was a must try. Ordered 2 lunch noodle combos. Hot udon, Oyako don combo Cold soba, katsu don combo Side of California roll. You get a good amount of food for a combo. Noodles and a bowl combo seems like the way to go. $5 for 4 pieces of California roll is a little offensive. Overall the food was lacking in the the depth of flavor you would expect from noodles or the various donburi. Donburi were over cooked and needed more dashi. Or maybe the dashi is the problem and just doesn't hit the mark. I'm a little surprised by the amount of 5 stars this place has received raving about the food. This is one of my longtime favorite restaurants in OC with some of the best Japanese food, but I absolutely cannot stand the current takeout container only service. Not only does it create so much plastic, it pales in comparison to the seated dining prior to the pandemic and dradically decreases the quality of experience here. We went in at 5:10 pm and did not wait at all. I usually get the hot udon but today as it was hot, I went with the cold soba with tanuki. I also paired that with the crunchy roll which wasn't anything special. My friend got the hot udon with sansai which she loved but the vegetable curry don was watery and very salty. *a review during the COVID-19 pandemic* This place has been on my list for a while and I finally got to try it with my parents when we were deciding what to eat for dinner. Right now this place is TAKEOUT ONLY since they are short-staffed. While it is takeout only, you cannot order online and they are NOT ON ANY DELIVERY SERVICE. They open at 5pm at dinner and when my family and I got there 15 minutes after they opened there were people lined him to place their order. After you place your order you can either wait inside or outside and there is hot tea and water for you to drink while you wait. So many people came to order food (a lot of Asians, which is always a good sign) and we waited about 20 minutes for our order. When we got back to the hotel we saw that everything was separated which explained how we got handed 3 bags haha. I ordered the salmon teriyaki with mixed tempura. With the entrees, you get a choice of white or brown rice, miso soup, and a cold bean salad. Everything was delicious and I liked how big the salmon piece was and how much tempura they gave you. My dad and I also shared a California roll ($5) and spicy tuna roll ($5.50) and they were okay. Overall it's a great place and clearly, they are still going strong by doing takeout only. If you want a good bang for your buck for the quality of food, I definitely recommend coming here! I came here right when it opened and it was already so poppin. There's only about 7-8 tables outside the restaurant so definitely plan on doing takeout or go super early. Keep in mind that there are other restaurants there too so you'll most likely have trouble finding seating during peak hours. I got the karage, fried squid, udon, tuna don and katsu. I would say out of everything I enjoyed the udon the most because the broth was super yum and the texture of udon was perfect! I got the combo so the tuna don came with it but as much as I wanted to love it, there was so texture and it immediately became like mush in my mouth. The tuna was good but overall texture was not good for me. All the fried items (karage, fried squid and katsu) were solid. I would recommend the udon out of all items! The only recommendation I would have to the restaurant is somehow finding an alternative to all the plastic containers. I understand this is how you keep the food fresh and tasty, but omg my tuna don & udon combo had a total of 6 different containers. I decided to try out this place as it had good reviews and right down the street from me. They're currently still only taking carry out orders, so you'll have to order in the store. I arrived just in time for the dinner special. I ordered the hot vegetable udon with the spicy tuna don and added on a spicy tuna roll. Everything was wrapped securely and the food was still hot and fresh when I came home. WOW, the spicy tuna was so simple yet so tasty because of how fresh the fish was. No smelly taste to it at all. Surprisingly, it was my favorite part of the meal! The noodles had a good chewy texture and the broth was flavorful. The spicy tuna don was creamy and went well with the seasoned rice. The portions were good and I actually was able to eat these for two separate meals as there was a lot of food. I'll be back to take advantage of the lunch special. read more

I got hot tanuki udon and cold tanuki soba. The udon was smooth and chewy and tasted delicious with the broth, whereas the soba was nice and refreshing for a hot day. These were both the perfect noodle choices. They also gave so much tanuki aka tempura flakes. However, the second part of the lunch special was underwhelming. With the purchase of 2 lunch specials, I decided to try one donburi and one roll. The katsu don was a bigger portion than I expected, but did not taste appetizing at all. Ok I hear what the others are saying about it tough to find seating indoors and that the air isn't on so it's super hot especially near the stove. Some of the food is super expensive and others are super great in value. For example any time nearby I'll gladly come to get the seafood salad or the salmon skin salad. But my daughter ordered the tuna bowl which is costly. Granted I was just excited that she found tuna that she liked. And she finished the bowl later in at home. Love love love FUKADA! All of the Yelp reviews are true. Restaurant only offers takeout. They do not do dine-in at the moment. You have 2 options: 1. Call 2. Arrive and order at the restaurant I personally prefer to call. You HAVE to call within the first 10-15 minutes upon opening because they are extremely short staffed and stop answering calls after the first 15 minutes. As for pick-up, expect a bit of a wait. Since they are short staffed, they don't have an actual system or separate line for pick-up. You'd have to wait in line to pay and the line is confusing because there's no clear markers for a waiting line. It's first come first serve basis. FOOD: I absolutely LOVE their lunch or dinner combos. For about $14, you get your choice of udon and rice bowl. It's such a steal because the food is so authentic and delicious and they give generous portions. I always opt for their hot tanuki udon with the spicy tuna don. The udon comes with fresh and warm tempura flakes, the broth is super savory and goes so well with the chewy udon. It's a whole flavor explosion. As for the spicy tuna don, such quality spicy tuna. You cannot go wrong with this rice bowl. Hubby loves to order their unagi bowl, but he always ends up eating some of my food too because he loves it SO much. Aside from that, their takeout packaging is great. All of the foods are packaged well and they even add plastic wrap on my udon broth to make sure that the soup doesn't spill out. We came on a cold and rainy Friday and the indoor tables were also open for guests to eat at. We came at noon and the lunch rush made it quite busy. We waited about 15 minutes for our food to come but it was well worth the wait. The lunch special is like two small meals in one. It is in a strip mall in Irvine and a line forms without fail about 30 minutes before opening. I always get their soba, but my family likes udon more, so we usually order a mix of the two noodles. I personally love their style of dashi, which is really intense and smoky from the type of bonito flake they use. I'm partial to the Sansai soba because I love mountain vegetables. My daughter gets the Wakame udon. To round out the noodles, we order a variety of fried and braised dishes, which they also prepare very well. Updating my old review. Recently came here for the 1st time in years on a cold rainy otherworldly so-cal day. Caught the end of the lunch rush on Saturday. They seemed to have not enough staffing so we ordered take-out but they allowed people to eat inside. A lot of plastic waste unfortunately. However, you can't beat this price anywhere for the lunch combo. And they even offer that combo on the weekend! I like the sansai topping on my noodles so I can feel healthy with some veggies. I really liked Fukada, mainly because of the bento dinner special - there were lots of options and variety! I ordered the hot soba noodles with sansai (mountain vegetables). The other option is to do noodles with tanuki (tempura flakes) - both options are delicious! The soup had such a nice and soothing flavor to it. For my main dish, I ordered the spicy tuna don. The spicy tuna had an interesting texture because it was completely smooth (like mashed potatoes) and the flavor was a little spicy and very creamy! If you're thinking of trying this place, do it! They had a great amount of Japanese dishes and sushi rolls but it wasn't overwhelming. Their curry is TO DIE FOR and so are their soba dishes. You'll have the hardest time deciding what to order because you'll want one of everything. Their dishes come out packaged for take out and ready to go but you may sit at any of their available tables (they've got a good of amount of seating with fast turnover) and eat there but just know there is no table service. i was surprised but also not surprised by how amazing this place was o.o i've heard so many good reviews from friends & family but when i actually tried it, i was still blown away. i ordered the dinner combination which is SO worth it for the amount of food you get. i chose the hot tanaki udon + spicy tuna don (which is $1 extra) and it came out to ~$17 w tax. both dishes were AMAZING. the spicy tuna was flavored perfectly and melted in your mouth, and the rice it comes w is cooked to perfection. the udon was delish though i do think it lacked a tinyyyy bit of flavor, but i still really enjoyed it with the crunchy tanaki bits they add on top. would give the spicy tuna don 5/5 and tbe udon 4/5! at the moment, they're only doing takeout due to lack of workers, so i ordered there and the food came out so quick. i highly recommend eating it right away (either at one of the tables outside the store or in the car) since its so much better when the rice is warm and the udon soup is super hot. it's a shame i live so far cus i can def see myself craving this often :'( read more
