Japanese Hibachi restaurant in Salinas? Well yes please! A friend and I gave it a try for lunch yesterday. Its a good use of the old space (used to be a Chinese buffet place). You enter to a "regular" sit down dining room, complete with sushi bar. Remodeled, clean and inviting. Past that, facing Davis Rd. is the second dining room with the Hibachi tables, where they'll happily cook it all in front of you. The menu was varied and covered many options, regardless of which type of dining experience you desired. The prices seem fair, definitely less than what you'd pay for the same thing on the peninsula. It was Friday...so what the hell?.....Hibachi for lunch! I had the scallops and shrimp and it was killer. Portions were generous. The show was better than my last time to Sapporo (which I like as well). The food was similar to what you'd get at either Sapporo or Benihana. I personally think it was seasoned a bit better. Plus....soba noodles AND fried rice with my entre?....you won me over. OK, so you don't get a view of the wharf and bay...more like apartments and Oil Can Henry's, but that doesn't really matter when the show is going on. A diamond in the rough! Came here on New Year's day. Tonkatsu and unagi don were perfect. Good service, and waitress even inquired about any food allergies. Waiter made my daughter a balloon flower. Unfortunately, she tripped on the way to the car, and it popped. They happily made her another one. Very friendly staff. read more

Service was pretty decent here. Had to seat ourselves because the location seemed understaffed at the moment. Our order wait wasn't too long either. But the waiter was attentive and made sure service was provided when we needed it so that was a plus. We came during the middle of the week so it wasn't too busy at all. But I had the dragon entree and that was amazing! My Fiancé had a spicy tuna entree and that was just as pleasing from other places we tried. The California rolls were primarily filled with cucumber sticks. The teriyaki sauce was bland. The salmon was over cooked. The dumplings were primarily dough. The fried oysters were overly battered and over cooked so that all you got were tough nuggets of oyster grit. The place was fairly run down. Our booth had tape over a tear in the seat. The service was just okay. I wasn't expecting amazing, but I was at least hoping for a decent meal. read more

First time here with my son and his basketball team. We had a good time from beginning to end. The cook was entertaining and gave the adults if wanted long sake squirt shots hopefully you dont miss and flipped a vegetable from the table to your mouth if you were skilled enough. This brought on alot of laughter which trumped the things I didnt care for. The sushi was just okay! Not the best, but edible. The chicken and shrimp hibachi was good. I enjoyed the shrimp the most. The salad with the mango dressing wasnt compatible with my palate and I didnt care for the complimentary soup that came with the meal. It was like clear tasteless water with 1 mushroom floating around. Overall we had fun. Service was good and food was mediocre. read more

I had such high hopes for this restaurant and greatly anticipated their opening. The food was fresh and the staff was attentive. I enjoyed the salmon hibachi lunch special. A couple of comments - the clear soup was like warm dishwater and the side noodles were disappointing. The salmon was generous and beautifully cooked. I will order the sauce on the side next time. The chirashi was a huge disappointment. The fish was fresh but not very generous and the rice was not well prepared. Overall our experience was good. We decided to try this hibachi style restaurant we thought this would be a nice change. My first clue that this really isn't Japanese I asked for sunomono which a standard in Japanese restaurants but the server never heard of it. Now we had to wait until the entire table was full before that started which was fine. The chefs really had no knife skills but did a good job. The food was classic Chinese stir fry. Fried noodles fried rice and fried veggies all Chinese style. Not bad but not really good either. If you are expecting fresh Japanese food like Benihana's you will disappointed. read more

Order was wrong and the server didn't know the Japanese words for the nigiri sushi nor did she know what nigiri was. This place is awesome if you want good hibachi food. It's fresh, and cooked right in front of you while sitting down. I haven't enjoyed a nice hibachi restaurant since my last favorite one closed. I didn't believe when I found this place in Salinas. It can get a bit pricey if you want hibachi food AND sushi, so I would suggest go for one and then go back another day for the other. read more

Great environment and great service! Very celebratory and flash with the Japanese chefs. However the food was very average from sushi, Hibachi, entrees or appetizer. Nothing stood out. This place is awesome. Came here for my bday and sat down right away. Great service very friendly. They sang for me and had the disco lights on which was cool. Great portion sizes 1 plate enough for 2 people. The chief had flying broccoli try and catch it! Haha such a great time and experience. This place definitely exceeded my husbands and I expectation! We decided to get sushi last minute and we're staying at the courtyard hotel so it was a short drive. I did read some negative reviews so I was hesitant. When we got in, we were greeted and sat quickly. We ordered and our food arrived quick and it was very delicious. We didn't take pic of our food but the sushi was VERY good and tasted fresh! We were both satisfied and pleased! If we lived close by this would be our new sushi spot :) read more

I won't be coming here ever again. We had a party of nine in the normal seating area. We did not receive the salad that was included with our meals. Everyone's food came out at different times. Everyone had finished eating, and I hadn't received my food. My food came long after everyone had finished eating. We talked to the waitress, but she said that sukiyaki takes a long time to cook. Sukiyaki is thinly sliced beef and vegetables. It shouldn't take that long. I had to wait one hour to get my food. When I finally got my plate, I received the wrong dish and received something completely different. The waitress asked me if I wanted sukiyaki, but I told her that it was too late, since it was already 9 pm. The manager tried to stop me from taking my leftovers. Instead of apologizing, taking the blame, and offering to remove the plate from the bill, the manager just made excuses and blamed the waitress for writing down the wrong order. read more

I attached a picture of my to go plate. I believe it was the L11 lunch combo. You get to choose one of each of the three lists provided. Cost 11.95 came out to 13.06 or something like that. Everything was really good. Only thing I wish I could change was the crab meat in the California rolls. When it's mixed Into that mayo crab salad it's much tastier than just a stick of crab. Makes it kind of dry that way. It only took about 10 minutes to have my food ready. The price was really good. Their salad dressing was yellow and had a ginger flavor. Tasty. And their miso soup was really good and very hot even after I got home. The teriyaki was a tad on the dry side. But still really good and had plenty of sauce to make up for it. read more

Food is good, but they charge you for extra yum yum sauce and also for any amount of chilli oil. Ive never heard of any place charging for chilli oil?!? Also you cant get a substitution for the salad except more soup. They'll nickel and dime you here. Came here for the first time the other day for my wife's birthday. I highly recommend this place. We came right at 4pm when they opened and we were seated right away no wait. I had the steak and salmon and my wife had the filet mignon and shrimp. I recommend just spending the extra $2 for the filet mignon if you're going to have the steak, it's way more tender. The chef was hilarious, had my whole family and I busting up the entire time he was cooking. Massive food portions also well worth the price. 2 thumbs up read more
