This has been and continues to be one of my favorite all time restaurants. I've been coming to Fu Wing Low all my life. From celebrating milestone events, to just enjoying a nice family meal, while I was enjoying a great meal I was making core memories as well. The owners and staff have become like family. They always treat us well, and they know how to make you feel like you are enjoying a meal cooked by loved ones. Today I tried the Egg Foo Young patties. They're a bit tough. I prefer the Egg Foo Young omelette. My wife enjoyed the Mongolian Beef. It was cool how it comes with crispy wonton strips instead of a bunch of onions. The Fried Rice is the nice dark charred variety that I love. It reminds me of a great place in Chicago I used to go to. My wife agrees that we should have tried their Orange Chicken because everything started tasting the same after a while. I came to Fu Wing Low during my lunch break after noticing they offer lunch specials for under $13. I ordered the Mongolian beef after asking for recommendations. The lunch set comes with an egg roll, a choice of soup (corn or hot and sour), a pot of hot tea, and your choice of steamed white rice or fried rice. I chose the fried rice. Although I asked for the corn soup, I was given the hot and sour soup instead, which ended up being extremely sour. The interior feels very old-school, classic Chinese restaurant, and the lunch crowd consisted mostly of regulars in their 50s and older. She lives soup and said it was the best ahe had ever had. She also loved the tomato beef chow mean (Hong Kong style noodles). She thought the cha siu fried rice was a little greasy but worth it because it was so yummy. We went there for lunch so it waa not super busy. All the smaller tables were taken. 2 people came in for take out orders. The vibe is definitely old school. There were 2 servers and they were hopping! Very efficient and checked on us several times. I ordered lunch takeout from here again. It was ready in less than 10 mins. This time I wanted to try their shrimp with lobster sauce, which also includes snow peas and water chestnuts. Both vegetables were overcooked to my liking since I prefer more crunch, but overall tasted fine. The amount of shrimp was plentiful. To add more flavor, I added soy sauce and chili oil. This place is very non-descript and unassuming little restaurant in a small unassuming strip mall. It basically looks like any other small Chinese restaurant. But we were surprised by the quality of the food! We've been looking for the best replacement for Sam Woo that closed a couple of years ago in Irvine and we haven't found anything. This place gets closer than most! The fish with black bean sauce was our favorite at Sam Woo and it's almost as good here. The fish was perfectly cooked -- very tender -- and the sauce was just right, flavorful but not overpowering. The same for the Mongolian beef. A lot of places overcook the beef or put on so much sauce you can't taste anything else. This was perfectly cooked -- very tender. The only thing you could criticize was that there weren't a lot of green onions. Same again for the beef chow fun and shrimp with lobster sauce. Ask very well cooked and very flavorful. The only criticism we have is that the place could definitely use an upgrade in look and feel. It's definitely been a while since they last decorated. They have almond duck!!! The real kind. Pressed duck with a crispy bite and gravy on top. So good! I remember it a little differently from when I was a kid but I just appreciate its existence. Very classic Chinese restaurant with big circular tables in the middle. Definitely come here for great classic dishes. FOOD: Not only do they have Almond Duck but they have the classic hom yu (salted pork and fish meatball) and of course things like chicken chow mein, kung pao, Mongolian beef, fried wontons, etc. but almond duck! Love this place! It's a small, family-run restaurant with great customer service. They even give you a whole pot of hot tea for free -- and it's delicious. Our water was refilled every few minutes without us having to ask. Their lunch specials run from Tuesday through Saturday, and the prices are very reasonable. Food was good as usual. I could barely understand my waitress when I ordered. It's a family owned business for the past 40 yrs. Food is good but the staff talk to each other from one side of the restaurant to the other. It's does't matter that I don't understand what they're saying but they talk so loud. Mu shu pork was delicious and the service was friendly. Great prices, generous portions (3 meals for 2 people from our mu shu, garlic green beans, and chow mein), and Mu shu pork is kinda hard to find these days! Based on prices, I expected a basic hole in the wall joint where you order at the counter, but this was a really cute little restaurant with wait staff to take your order at the table and even a fish tank to keep me occupied while I waited for my to go order. Super inviting! My only negative comment is that the delicious garlic green beans were cooked *perfectly* which meant that once I reheated them, they were overcooked. I've been here three times. The first time it was pretty good but the last two times just average. I ordered the beef chop suey from the lunch menu and asked for fried rice. I got it to go. When I got home I realized they gave me white rice, not a big deal, except that the rice was incredibly dry and hard like it been sitting out all day. The beef chop suey was OK but again not great. Came here for a birthday lunch with a friend, who likes ( and returns for) their Singapore noodles. I tried my favorite Asian dish, Shrimp Foo Young. I had been ordering it - for 50 years!! - from Al Palace in Costa Mesa, but they just retired, so I needed to find another restaurant that could make it as well as Al Palace did. Happy to say Fu Wing Low delivered!! I liked it so much, I returned the next week with another friend who wanted to take me out for my birthday, and I ordered the same thing, and it was as delicious as the first time. Gosh, I finally got up the courage to ask the nephew, David (now owner, with his dad (the cook), and mom (also the cook) on Kenny... unfortunately, Kenny passed away a year ago... the good news is he is running the place and doing a fantastic job... unfortunately, his dad, who is the main cook is old as well... how do you cook this style if he isn't able to cook any longer? So far, the flavors are as good as if it were the 1960's and 1970's... I think the only establishments that serve this style now is Paul's Kitchen in Culver City and here... I call it "Japanese" American style Chinese food... like Far East, Little Tokyo back in the day and Tin Sing's in Gardena (which closed because the father died and the family didn't want to continue... although they did open up a take out place recently)... Thankful that the nephew (never got his name) took over and has kept the food the same... although he did admit the mom and dad call the shots...hahahaha... that's good because I do like their cooking the best... we got our favorite today... wor wonton soup, pot stickers, and Tomato Beef Chow Mein sooooooo good.... praying for a long long life for the family... so they can continue to cook the best Chinese food (In my opinion) in SoCal. read more

This is a small family owned restaurant. The service is great and food is made fresh, so please be prepared to wait a little, especially since they get many phone orders. I have the house special pan fried noodles with no veggies. Noodles were cooked great, just enough sauce, and there were several shrimp with the beef and chicken. Hubby got the Mopa Tofu and it was yummy. He asked for less salt and it was perfect. The tofu was plentiful and the sauce flavorful. They give you a large pot of hot tea, instead of those tiny pots. The restaurant is clean and the staff remember you, but they do get busy. If coming with a party of more than 4, call ahead and book as there are only 3 LARGE party tables. I let her know we were ready, she brushed me off and went to another table that was just sat. I also have to mention that she also took 2 phone orders as we sat and waited. In addition, it was impossible to ignore the clutter in the corner. Cardboard boxes and food containers were stacked up, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a storage room than a dining space. The messiness in the corner raised concerns about cleanliness and food safety. Instead of feeling welcoming, the space felt chaotic, unsanitary and NOT welcoming. It's the last standing traditional, "old school" Chinese restaurant. The food is so good. The Mongolian beef is the best I've had. My favorite is the honey walnut chicken. They have all the staples, including some items that many places don't offer, provide good quality food, and you don't leave feeling remorseful about how much you spent. Aha... I should have listened to the lovely missus. There really aren't many genuine Chinese food places you can go to where you sit at a booth or table. I miss the Gong's restaurant in HB. The missus is a fan of Egg Roll King in FV, but I wanted to revisit Fu Wing Low. How was it? Well, it's been a while, and I sensed that what we experienced food wise was not what I remember. Sure, the lunch came as before and is shareable. The missus had the Sweet and Sour Pork dish with white rice. My choice was the Beef and Broccoli dish with a dry tasting plain fried rice. Lunch comes with hot and sour soup and a vegetable spring roll with a thick, sweet red dipping sauce. I think we might have different chef or food preparation methods. Although we liked the place and we were quickly attended to, I think that maybe I should have ordered a different dish. The missus was not enjoying the SS pork either. I did enjoy sipping the slightly aromatic jasmine type hot tea. We took our Fu Wing Low leftovers home with an added order of BBQ pork fried rice. It was the same experience with this fried rice. The long grain rice was dry to the pallet, and the tiny pork pieces were not adding much to the flavor. Fu Ling You was not as great as I thought it would be since my last review.
