This time I took my mom. She really enjoyed it. She said it reminded her of growing up and the restaurants he dad loved. She loved the corn soup. She lives soup and said it was the best ahe had ever had. She also loved the tomato beef chow mean (Hong Kong style noodles). She thought the cha siu fried rice was a little greasy but worth it because it was so yummy. We went there for lunch so it waa not super busy. All the smaller tables were taken. 2 people came in for take out orders. The vibe is definitely old school. There were 2 servers and they were hopping! Very efficient and checked on us several times. My mom wants to come back! Ample parking!

I ordered lunch takeout from here again. It was ready in less than 10 mins. This time I wanted to try their shrimp with lobster sauce, which also includes snow peas and water chestnuts. Both vegetables were overcooked to my liking since I prefer more crunch, but overall tasted fine. The amount of shrimp was plentiful. To add more flavor, I added soy sauce and chili oil. Their steam rice was meh, but luckily I had some at home. Since the portions here are generous, I was able to make two meals from this one dish.

This place is very non-descript and unassuming little restaurant in a small unassuming strip mall. It basically looks like any other small Chinese restaurant. But we were surprised by the quality of the food! We've been looking for the best replacement for Sam Woo that closed a couple of years ago in Irvine and we haven't found anything. This place gets closer than most! The fish with black bean sauce was our favorite at Sam Woo and it's almost as good here. The fish was perfectly cooked -- very tender -- and the sauce was just right, flavorful but not overpowering. The same for the Mongolian beef. A lot of places overcook the beef or put on so much sauce you can't taste anything else. This was perfectly cooked -- very tender. The only thing you could criticize was that there weren't a lot of green onions. Same again for the beef chow fun and shrimp with lobster sauce. Ask very well cooked and very flavorful. The only criticism we have is that the place could definitely use an upgrade in look and feel. It's definitely been a while since they last decorated. This could be a but if the appeal for some, I guess ... We're definitely coming back!

Okay Chinese food for good price. We ordered their beef mooshu, fish with black bean sauce, chow mein, and green beans. I understand that Chinese foods tend to be more on the oilier side but Everything was very oily and overly sauced. My stomach was not a happy camper. Service was good and the people were nice. The inside of the restaurant, their seatings could use an upgrade

Roast Duck half but seemed so much more than half.

They have almond duck!!! The real kind. Pressed duck with a crispy bite and gravy on top. So good! I remember it a little differently from when I was a kid but I just appreciate its existence. Very classic Chinese restaurant with big circular tables in the middle. Definitely come here for great classic dishes. FOOD: Not only do they have Almond Duck but they have the classic hom yu (salted pork and fish meatball) and of course things like chicken chow mein, kung pao, Mongolian beef, fried wontons, etc. but almond duck! All of it is good. Some better than others. But so happy to find these rare classics that so few serve. What a gem. SERVICE: Had great service and super nice. I did take out and they packaged it thoughtfully and perfectly. I've never seen such care to keep your food safe. COST: More than reasonable! Some dishes like roast duck and almond duck feel like a steal! Definitely coming back.

Wow wow , I've been looking for a sweet quiet ambiance of a place to eat Chinese food like how Gongs was. I miss Gongs in HB but this place has exceded their food and quality, great costumer service. They serve egg rolls, pork with pineapple sweet and sour sauce, chicken chow mein , fried rice , sweet and sour pork, walnut shrimp , chicken with mushroom n veggies and a fortune cookie and of course delish tea. You have to check them out they have a deal for family of 2 or 4 and it's a lot for your buck . Totally one of my FV top Chinese restaurants so check them out . Just remember little places are the best

Love this place! It's a small, family-run restaurant with great customer service. They even give you a whole pot of hot tea for free -- and it's delicious. Our water was refilled every few minutes without us having to ask. Their lunch specials run from Tuesday through Saturday, and the prices are very reasonable. Each lunch special comes with rice, soup, an egg roll, and an entrée. I expected small portions for the price, but all our orders were generous. We togo the leftover. The food is fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Highly recommended!

Whenever I'm in Garden Grove, Korean and Vietnamese cuisine will always take precedence. However,…read moremy most recent trip pivoted from the norm, and Noodle Star became the destination. The end result? Reasonable prices, warm service, and very tasty food. Like so many Chinese restaurants, the name and theme is inherently confusing. Up until last year, the place was Harbor Garden and it's rebranded to Noodle Star ever since. The Chinese name ("川粵" aka "Chuan Yue") would imply there is a Sichuan + Cantonese component to the offerings, despite the words "teppanyaki" and handmade noodles (手工麵) noted on the exterior as well as on signs on the interior. Typically any restaurant that dabbles in multiple regional Chinese variations (Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Lanzhou, etc.) is a huge flight risk. Surprisingly, it all worked out. All of my orders were from different regions of the country, starting with a Cantonese beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) that was delightfully smokey from the wok hei (#1) and the noodles and beef were silky and smooth. While the noodles aren't as wide as I would have liked, they were still 100% workable in the dish. The Taiwanese style popcorn chicken (鹽酥雞) was wonderfully fried and the chicken was still juicy on the inside. Their napa cabbage + shrimp + pork steamed dumplings (白菜豬肉蝦水餃) were pillowy soft and steamed perfectly. They were plump and not too doughy; which is very appropo for a northern Chinese dish. The biggest surprise may have come from the soup dumplings (小籠包), which had just the right amount of soup and a very delicate dumpling skin that was downright excellent. The service was kind, attentive, and very bilingual with Mandarin and English. Prices might feel high to non-Cali folks, but the spectrum is very much on the Socal average. (#2). Bathrooms were mostly clean and the seating options were plentiful; solid for large and small group action. Parking can be tough on the weekends since it's a strip mall. I already know that I'll be back. If I was able to order 4 regions and they all came out excellent (#3), I can only imagine how excellent the rest of the house special group of dishes will be. __________ (#1) "Essence of the wok" -- it's a thing. (#2) At $15-19 for most dishes. (#3) Did we get lucky?

The green beans were also aâmzing, fresh, bright green, and not oily at all. Simple but cooked perfectly. My favorite surprise was the potato salad. Overall: good food, fresh ingredients, and great flavors. Definitely coming back to try more dishes!

This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

Our family joked around and would say let's go to the travel agency restaurant when we had a craving for Chinese/Vietnamese type of food. I recall the food back then was extra tasty and memorable, leaving me wanting to return again and again. However, my recent lunch outing with my girlfriends changed my mind. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I think it helped that my friend was a familiar customer. We came on a Monday afternoon around 11:30 and It was early enough where parking was still available. We ordered the classic dishes, including salt and pepper fried pork chopsand salt and pepper fried shrimp, but the taste this time around left a lot to be desired. These two dishes lacked the crunchiness and flavors that these fried entrees are supposed to showcase. We found the pork chops to be dry and tough, as if it was prepared a while ago and sitting out for some time before it made its way to our table. The shrimp was not impressive either. At least the shaking beef or bo luc lac was good. The beef chunks were tender, and the flavors were on point. Bonus points for the broth that is complimentary during lunch. Also the complimentary orange slices were a nice touch to end our meal. We'd still return for the lobster and noodle when the occasion comes up.

So cool that I just discovered Westminster has a location too! What's even better is that they have outdoor seating which means dogs are allowed! That's a HUGE plus for me. Portions seem a bit smaller than the San Gabriel and Rosemead location but it gets the job done and I am pretty full after the meal. They have so many other options on the menu like chow fun, hainan chicken, and a ton of other noodle soup dishes. The last two times I came here was on a weekday during lunch so there was plenty of parking. However, I'm sure it gets packed on the weekend since it is located right next to the Asian Garden Mall. All tax is included in the price so there's no additional sales tax line item. Also! They charge 50 cents for water.. other locations do not. I was surprised but oh well.
